My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

Penny's story infuriated me. She was emotionally abusive to those around her. Her husband and her child. I remember watching the nutritionist come in to their apartment and she told her son "that lady is trying to get rid of your cereal", "my son doesn't like cookies" (after the lady saw cupcakes) and her son replied "I like cookies". She was delusional. She kept saying that she was losing weight because her shirt was bigger. She blamed everything and everyone else and never thought she had to diet to lose weight. If I were husband I would have taken her son and moved away from her.

to be honest, to lose about 100lbs when you start at around 800lbs is easier than it sounds, since most of these people have extremely unhealthy eating habits and portions, and barely do any movement.. even just cutting their portions down to normal portions they could lose so much, plus even just walking for like 15 minutes a day, they could well lose 100lbs in say 4-5 months.
That being said, it is obviously different if they have illnesses and disabilities. Obviously it will take longer, and that's ok.

The thing is, there is, and has been for at least 40 years, exercise programs that can be done sitting in a chair.
They're meant for people like me--elderly (who has been badly injured, so trying to do "real" exercises, as someone called gym workouts), isn't yet possible, and for people with any kind of mobility issues, and they're right here on YT.
Some of the exercises can be done in bed (with a doctor's approval, and a couple of minor modifications) in order to help strengthen a bed-ridden person start to gain strength so they can eventually move to a chair and exercise---which eventually leads to standing exercises.

Sean’s mother is committing a criminal level of dereliction of duty. She’s abusing him by giving him that food. He’s a vulnerable adult and belongs in a nursing home with strict rules on what food she can bring in.
But it seems that no one can legally enforce that. He needs a guardian who is not his mother.
I guess all the intervention in the world won’t help. He’s an adult and has the right to let mommy control everything.
Some of these cases go way back to family dynamics when you see how the people who are supposed to care and give tough love and/or nurturing all their lives.
They need to start them on intense therapy long before they are on the show, without it, they are wasting their time.

The minute I saw that number on the scale, I signed up with online exercise program, focused on home cooked meals, and tried to suck up the pain to avoid medication. I did go down to 175 within a year, but there is something missing !! Instead of giving up, I'm seeking as many medical advices to make sure that I make the correct diet my ultimate goal instead of falling for fad diets or diet injections (since I'm not diabetic or have hear disease). Interesting facts ...
To maintan 600 pound you must be eating at least 9600 calories per day (600 X 16). Which is about 5-6 times the amount of food people need to stay at a "normal" weight!!
That's equivalent to 17.8 Big Macs (540 calories each)
To lose 30 pounds in a month ie a pound a day you, must decrease your current calorific intake by 3500 per day, which is the equivalent of 6.5 Big Macs
So a person who weighs 600 pound could lose 30 pound in a month even if all they ate was 10 Big Macs every day !!!
Of course after you have lost that 30 pounds... your calorific requirement to maintain that 570 pounds drops to 9,120

When I was growing up, if you were 15 pounds overweight you likely would not get any dates and would be pressured to lose weight. Excess weight was heavily stigmatized. But now we have this. They ought to have a “spotter” for these folks when they step on the scale. Sometimes, the number on the scale can make someone faint from shock and embarrassment.
When a six hundred pound person collapses to the ground it can be pretty dangerous.

Usually the wife is overweight too because the food is always in front of her. My husband has no weight problem and always insists on big meals. I end up eating more than I would without seeing all that. I could get by on a sandwich for supper. I only weigh 140. but have weighed upe to 160.

After a self-destruct phase, my highest weight was around 260 pounds. I dropped 91 to be 169. At 6'2" that's a bit dangerous so I started to reintroduce food to the body for energy (yes, I starved to lose) and tacked on muscular definition to look better. Anyway, after losing the weight and gaining a mild case of dysmorphia (being afraid to eat), I vowed to never want to see my weight start with a "2" ever again. With that said, if mine was in excess of a thousand like the guy @ 6:38 then you'd bet I'd hand someone a gun and tell them to aim for my head. That's no way to live.
