    I love how Dr. Now is always fair, but firm. He's empathetic, but he always gently pushes them to do more. We should all be lucky enough to have doctors like him.

    There is no reason to NOT do most of his PT exercises on his own several times a day! He CHOOSES TO lie there and do nothing all day every day.

    • @sophieweinrich6545
      @sophieweinrich6545 3 дні тому +1

      I'm actually not so sure about that, he's done so much damage to his body that his body's limit is very low and he maybe can't do the workout more than once or twice a day.
      Besides, lifting his arms and things like that are already a workout for him, so he's not doing nothing, it's just very little and people who've never experienced such a situation can't fathom how strenuous moving your own body can be.
      However I don't know if his doctor or physiotherapist said something that contradicts my thinking, I had trouble understanding them. So if that's the case please ignore my reasoning.

    • @kathyyoung1774
      @kathyyoung1774 2 дні тому

      @@sophieweinrich6545 The worst thing he can do is Nothing. That means his joints and muscles and tendons continue to deteriorate each day. His heart gets worse.
      I have experienced such a situation, though not from weight. I had AC and Taxol Chemo, and the AC chemo was so debilitating that I was in a wheel chair, and just turning over in bed was an ordeal. Yet every day, I used my arms and legs to try to do a little bit more exercise to keep from letting my body get even worse. Now that chemo is in the past, I take 7 exercise classes a week, and I'm nearly 80. I'll never get back the stamina I had before chemo, but I am at least slowing deterioration that comes with age.
      I also had a close friend who weighed 600 lbs, was in a nursing home because of it, and flatly refused all PT. She died a lot sooner than she should have.
      There is no reason he can't use his arms and legs to do some exercise off and on all day, every day. Anybody who isn't paralyzed can do that.

      Not really, usually your body adapts to the change in situation and lowers the amount of calories that are needed and you start to feel less hunger.
      As far as I've seen it's much more likely that you lose weight because you also lose all of your muscles.
      The poor hygiene is probably because he's too heavy to lift himself up or even with the help of his wife. I'd guess it's a huge effort that involves the help of several people to get him actually clean. Nobody wants to lie in their own filth unless there's no other choice.
