    Nice unit and excellent review Tony. Much better to chip than to have brushpiles and burn piles laying around drying out to burn. The wood chips are a great bonus to the cleanup proccess.

      Ben I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I really think this chipper fills the void between light duty consumer chippers and the high end commercial units. For my Six acres this unit is awesome and chips everything I put down its throat.

    Received mine a week ago. Eveeything you say is correct. If chipping green pine slow the drum dow or it tends to plug. If possible have two people feeding or you will have to much time of the unit running and not doing anything. The thing is a BEAST!. Easy to maintain, easy to hook up. I have about 10 hours on it already,

    • @TonysCoolTools

      Grant, what I try to do is stage all my material being chipped in one area so the unit isn’t idle long. I agree having two people works best.
      I’m constantly impressed with this unit every time I run it.
      A great unit at a value price.

    Hey Tony, I was just watching another gentleman's video, and he happens to have the same chipper you've got. (I've got the Woodland Mills 8" chipper), and in his video, he mentioned how his "control arm" (I believe that's what it's called) kept going from the "in-feed" position to the neutral position. Mine does this as well, and it's frustrating. Anyway, he actually contacted Woodland Mills, and they emailed him a "fix" for it. It's very simple, and makes the control arm stiffer for lack of a better word, so that it's not always jumping back into the neutral position.
    I remember watching you and Chris in his video number 335 I think where you guys were using your chipper and you mentioned that you had the same issue. I've never heard you mention "the fix" for it, so I didn't know if you were like me and even know that there in fact IS a remedy for this, so I just wanted to give you a heads up on how to correct this issue if you aren't already aware of it. I'll post a link to his video so that you can see it for yourself. Maybe it can help you, like it will help me, if you don't already know this. Hmm. for some reason, it's not allowing me to post the link to his video here, and I don't know how else to contact you to forward the link to you. I'll have to think about this and try to figure out a way to send you the link.

      Adrian the folding shoot was one of the main reasons for buying this machine. Though it’s manufactured overseas it was designed by Woodland Mills in CA. Most major brands manufacturer overseas, but the difference is the oversight and engineers they have in country that watch there products being made. A higher control over quality. I have a couple clients that already own tractors That should just buy a small chipper like that but they keep calling me out to chip their brush for them every year after they do their brush clearance for what I charge them they can buy one of those units in A year or 2. .

    Nice review. I have the WC 88. I was surprised how much larger overall the WC 88 is as compared to the WC 68 when you were walking around it. The WC 88 is a beast and I use it whenever burning isn't an option (a tractor with a grapple and a propane torch takes a tiny fraction of the effort/time as compared to chipping). The extra couple of inches in throat capacity makes a huge difference when dealing with crotchy limbs. I have a larger tractor than you, but would not be afraid at all to run the 88 with your tractor, even though Woodland Mills might mildly disagree. Using common sense, you can always vary the feed rate and the material going through the accommodate lower PTO power.

    • @TonysCoolTools
      @TonysCoolTools  2 роки тому

      I did look at the WC88 but felt I would not be chipping limbs larger then 3”-to 4” since I’d be using anything larger for firewood. I agree the tractor would handle it but the infeed roller would have to be slowed way down. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 👍

      Bruce yes chipper blades can be sharpened. In a former life I sold grinder and granulator blades and that company ( Zenith Cutter in Rockford IL) did sharpen them. A good machine shop in your area should be able to sharpen blades as well. The good thing is these blades are double sided so you’ve got a lot of chipping before you need sharpening unless you hit metal or rocks. Thanks for watching

    I have the same chipper, it's a nice unit for the price point, but the infeed roller is nothing like more expensive options (which have a top and bottom roller). Small parts of branches, especially from dead trees, often jam the infeed roller (at least on mine), when this happens you need to put the roller into reverse and then forward again. Is it better than manual feeding, yes, but can get quite frustrating. I'm considering replacing with a Wallenstein. Be interested in you've found the same over time..

    • @TonysCoolTools

      You’re right on all your points. I try to prep my branches a little more diligently knowing the branch could jam the in-feed roller.

      Dick that’s one piece of information I forgot to mention. Ironically you can use this on smaller tractors with HP from 20 to 50. The key on using this with a small tractor is to set your infeed roller to pull material in slower. The flywheel is 24” and 3/4” thick, When you have it set at 540rpm it chews everything up. Naturally the more HP your tractor has the easier it works. Main thing is that your 3pt can lift 700+ lbs. Extremely useful attachment for the woodyard which I highly recommend. Thanks for watching
