Don't forget there is a "Fix Bugs" button that automatically fix all the bugs
Yep making a game can be 80% bug fixing in reality.
“all”
Yes, but they have to know what the bugs are. Then they just type all their problems in a little box, click the button, and it automatically fixes them!!
Also the optimize button that magically fixes performance issues
True
We all hate the part when AAA developers forget to press the "add more content" button.
The fact that 'rusty graphics' game developers don't just sell graphics 💀
They don't even click the normal content button anymore 💀
They keep misclicking and hitting the "make content DLC" button

Me: I'm learning game dev from scratch.
Friends: Really? Do you have anything on Steam yet?
That's me literally. I'm still doing my racing game, others are saying, when are you gonna release it.
I made a joke game about my friend group. One of them asked “is it gonna cost money” and another said “you should put it on the app store and put ads on it”. like anyone would even find it
That's lucky. Mine are only asking how much money will I make from it.
The expression they make when I tell them it's for free
I released my game too early 😭😭 I put that shit on steam wayy before it was ready to release and I fucking hate the build on steam but the current (actually good) build is just too buggy to release
the steam build isn't buggy but it's just so unfinished 😭😭😭😭 I made the steam build in 1 month and thought it was good enough to release but hell nah im just embarrassed by it now
@@clothinghanger6978What's the game?
So it's a bit unfinished, you have another build cooking, but you're still sorting out bugs. Don't be embarrassed, just keep working and when you're done sorting out the bugs, you update it, and then it's done. If you're still going to continue development, you do just that. Stop worrying about it and beating yourself down because of it. Just make some cool shit.

Just look up "Worst Doom Port" or "Doom 3DO Port." There are many videos about it on UA-cam including several long videos made by the programmer that had the unfortunate job of porting it alone in a short amount of time.

@@filmandfirearms if u are talking about something like faceit ac then thats not gonna happen and thats for the best. valve is trying to make an anticheat that is hard to bypass i.e. often retrained neural network/classification model instead of the naive approach of checking running software through kernel level driver

Legit saw a comment the other day where some guy said “Why don’t startup studios make their own engine for their games? Stop being lazy lol”
I just about punched my screen
The problem is that gamers think knowledge from playing games translates to knowledge about making them. I knew lots of people with a supposed “dream” to make games, and after I showing them how it’s done, they all gave up on it.
If you wouldn’t pretend to know about any other large software, don’t act like you know about game development. Gamers’ ignorance ruins the market.
@@paulblart7378 it's simply an IQ problem. One needs to be born with above average IQ to understand math and coding on a deep level to make anything useful. Average humans/gamers are simply not capable of understanding those complexities
@@paulblart7378 in my case was in reverse. I never tough i would want to make video games, but after seeing how its done it felt like i could give it a try and learn. Im currently without any knowledge about coding, i just know how to print hello world in lua, but im searching for an online course.
@@paulblart7378I'll add one very, very small pushback to that good point you made: if you had never played video games with a critical eye, I'd imagine you wouldnt really know where to start on the game design side of things. A lot of game design is just adjusting numbers until the thing "feels" right, but in order to know what the right numbers are for say, the velocity and duration for a dodge mechanic, you would need to know things like genre convention and player expectation
Of course, things are more complicated than that. For instance, if the sound design and animation for that dodge feel "off" it throws off the game feel entirely, and that's just one mechanic in isolation, not the way it interacts with other mechanics
I think another issue (besides a general ignorance of how Gamedev works lol) is that because players know what it "should" feel like, they overestimate their own abilities to actually know how to make it feel like that
@@KILLKRYPTOOfficial Yeah I definitely agree.

To be fair, the "rename file for console" isn't too far off reality. If you are using any decent game engine you just need to change the target platform and rebuild.
Might need to do some special optimizations based on release but considering how rushed and buggy games are nowadays I bet that big studios don't bother with target specific optimizations.
@@MiniDemonic It might seem that simple if you've opened an engine like Unity before but never actually needed to build to specific platforms but it's absolutely not. First, you need to build all your UI and controls so that it will work across your target platforms. If consoles weren't in your initial scope but now you want to release to more platforms after your PC release, well now you've got to put in lots of work making those systems functional with a controller. And the games that go above and beyond functional and actually make the controls good on a controller are spending even more time. Assuming there are no weird compile errors, now you get to have fun with tons and tons of platform specific bugs and visual issues that appear. Sometimes it just takes a bit of work to find a fix, sometimes you have to rewrite entire shaders or scripts to get them to mimick the original functionality. Then, as you mentioned, you've got performance. This can be a massive problem if consoles weren't in your original scope. Making games is a constant battle of performance, how can we make x system better so we can add more to this other system or add this completely new feature. Every game outside of like Cyberpunk definitely does lots of platform specific testing, there is just a LOT of issues that come up so some teams do not spend nearly enough time before release fixing things.
When i tell people that im making a game its sooo annoying cuz i say im makin a game and they say can i buy it tomorrow ... like it takes time to make it 😂
