    Great video, but I also want to just say THANK YOU for not having a bunch of intro stuff at the front of your video (channel title, "like and subscribe" etc) and just jumping in. Very refreshing. I hope UA-cam moves in this direction.

    Jason, I refer to your channel more often than nought! You made an excellent tutorial for gain staging before going into the Sony camera.
    What would be your recommendation before using the DJi system with an external recorder, for instance plugging the receiver into a Zoom H6 or Tascam Portacapture X8?
    Understanding that staging starts at the source, would the workflow be the same (eg, TX gain, RcV gain, external recorder gain?) thank you!

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому

      Thanks so much Erik - glad to help :) Yes I would always start with the TX gain for the person / situation it's attached to - if that stage clips/overloads then what comes later in the chain doesn't really matter as the audio will be bad already. Haven't tried plugging into my Zoom yet so I can't comment specifically. It depends on whether the (pre)amps have a better signal/noise ratio in the Zoom or the DJI receiver - I would just test a few different ways and use something like Adobe Audition to look at the noise - or just listen :) Hope that helps!

    • @JasonRobertsVideo

      The mics are omnidirectional so they will pick up sound from all around them (including the person next to them) You could plug in directional lav mics instead of using the built in mics to try and minimize this. Or when editing mute one persons audio channel when the other is talking, or just use the audio from one mic. In future for this scenario you could also try using a single mic positioned in from of the 2 people or go to a different audio setup like a boom mic.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому +1

      When you say "one file" what do you mean? If you are recording internally to both mics then you need to download the files from each mic. If you are recording straight into camera then the audio from the mics will be in the video file.

      @@JasonRobertsVideo Thankyou for getting back to me. I thought it was possible to independently edit the volume of each mic even if you used the received into a camera. The video file only has one audio track. Can this be split in two or am I just misunderstanding what this mic can do.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому +1

      You need to make sure the reciever is set to Stereo mode and not "Mono" or "Mono with Safety" - then in your audio in the video transmitter one will be on the left and transmitter two on the right (or vice verca) - you can then "split" the stereo file into two separate channels in your video editor and change the volume etc of them independently.

      @@JasonRobertsVideo Thanks so much for that. I have spent some time finding out how to split the audio in Davinci resolve and can now do that. I didn't know whether it was a DJI setting, a camera setting or an editing issue. Problem solved.

    For room self recordings and run and gun recordings, what did you have your Sony Audio levels set to with the DJI mics in use?

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  2 роки тому +2

      I'm still fine tuning to work out what's best but for my voice transmitter gain of 0db and receiver gain of about 6 and then adjust camera levels - I'll be doing a full video on the best settings when I've worked them out :)

  • @geoffhodgson2492

    Thanks for great videos. One of the best around. One thing that puzzles me is in the audio world I always thought that 0 dB was the 'not to be crossed line' and settings were -24dB to 0. With DJI this seems to be not the case and we have two sets of settings, one for TX and the other for RX going from -dB to +dB. With Røde you only had one dB gain setting. have I missed something?

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому +1

      High Geoff - there's a gain setting for the transmitter(s) and another one for the gain that gets applied from the receiver down the audio cable to the camera - the combination of these 2 settings will affect the final signal level that the camera records

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому

      You are most welcome :) DJI Mic transmitters have omni-directional microphones so they will pick up sound from all around so should be ok for recording ambiance. Other options would be something like a Zoom mobile recorder or similar.

      For ambience I would probably go with the zoom - this is the one I have www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KCXMBES?th=1 - it has built in mics, battery powered, and can also connect external XLR microphones

    this is the second time I've watched this. I watched the firs time a few months ago when I purchased the microphone kit. I put it away and just started using it now. I'm finding my audio is too low when using it and have my mic volume set at +8. I tried going up to 12 and not much helped. I keep the microphone around my sternum area on the outside my shirt. It just doesn't sound as good as if I'm speaking directly into my osmo action 3 or 4 cameras unfortunately.

    I do have a question…I just bought the Dji Mic 2 and want to use it as a MotoVlog Setup for Motorcycle riding.
    One Receiver in the helmet for my voice and one receiver near the rear of my bike for the pipe Sound. So should I set the Transmitter to Mono or Stereo?
    I really want to edit Both Audio Tracks separate. Thx a lot my friend ❤

    I wanna ask, do you think it be possible to connect one of the transmitters to a console for a concert (using a xlr to 3.5 jack cable) and record indepently while using the other transmitter to record interviews somewhere else?

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  9 місяців тому

      Transmitters have independent internal recording. You would not usually connect transmitter directly to audio equipment but you could connect the receiver to the console and transmit wirelessly from the 2 transmitters if the range was ok.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  Рік тому

      I don't ride a motorcycle so I don't really know but the mic in the transmitter is omnidirectional so it picks up sound from all around - you could buy a directional lav mic and plug it into the transmitter - that might help a bit

      If you're using 2 transmitters then stereo is a better choice if you don't mind a bit of work in post. When using only 1 transmitter I always use safety track not mono mode.

    Hi, do you know how to get how do I get separate audio files for each Mic? When I download the stereo file it still shows only 1 audio file albeit in stereo (I can hear 1 channel in the left and 1 in the right). I would like to mix both channels centrally. The idea is to put a mic near the engine to capture that sound and of course on in my helmet... Trouble is I don't want an engine in 1 ear and the voice in another. I love you channel and hope you can help :)

One think I can't find an answer for is the output od dpi mic. tried using a 3.5mm to xls cable into my zoom H6 and get nothing. is it me or there should be no issue if you want to feed sound into zoom recorder using xls? shouldn't be this complicated. anyways, no answer anywhere about this. if someone knows please share. Hi Osmani - I've got a zoom with XML input but I haven't tried connecting it up to DJI Mic receiver yet so I can't really comment on that. The output of the receiver is a stereo output but XLR input on your H6 is mono?? Maybe that is something to do with it?
