      The Church of the SubGenius (look it up) is organised around an entity called "Bob". Bob Mortimer is surely an avatar, or maybe an archangel, manifesting this. He's certainly suitably bizarre from our skewed Probability-A point of view.

    I love the part of Bob’s home dentistry story, where he says “I have a leather maker’s drill, yeah” as he nods at the audience, as if it’s something we can all relate to. Oh, of course, I wouldn’t attempt to drill my own teeth, I always go for a leather maker’s drill. You’d have to be mad to use some other kind of drill. 😂

    David's wife : Victoria Coren Mitchell is the daughter of The Late Alan Coren who was editor of Britain's leading satirical magazine and brilliant wit.

    In the UK we have dentists registered with the NHS and private dentists as dental care is not free at the point of access in the UK. The NHS registered dentists have 3 fixed bands of payments but the top band which covers complex treatments like dentures, bridges and crowns is still nearly £300 and a private dentist would be even more expensive. So I suppose the DIY method is the only option! Glad you found it funny, it is one of my favourite episodes :D

    Another show i think you would love is a personal favourite of mine, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled. Obviously you know Alan, each episode he sits around a table with 4 guests, mostly comedians, they have drinks, each discusses funny events from their past. At the end of each episode they give that show a title based on something that was discussed. Bob has appeared a few times on that, as you can imagine he shared more great memories. One episode was almost like a QI reunion, obviously hosted by Alan had Stephen and Sandy among the guests.

    • @CommissionerSleer
      @CommissionerSleer 3 роки тому +1

      I suggest Shooting Stars 1st as the silliness is a little more grounded in the format. I think pure Reeves and Mortimer will make more sense after exposure to Shooting Stars. Also, wrt Shooting Stars, I recommend doing full episodes and start at season 1. There are a lot on-running and evolving gags through the series that will make a lot less sense for anyone jumping in at series 5 or 6.

    We British aren't used to paying for medical treatment so the thought of dental insurance is somewhat alien to most people here especially older people which is why many people do go too long between dental visits. Actually my dad said in the late 60s early 70s a fella on the street he lived on learned densitry from books and did some dentistry for the people on the street for free, he would actually do tooth extractions and fillings but stopped when people took liberties asking if he'd do there cousins teeth or there aunt from the other side of town.

    Vic and Bob (Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer) when together are utter nutters. Their shows are so random, bordering on childish genius.

    As you appreciate Bob's humour, if you have any familiarity with English football (teams, players, managers) then you should listen to Bob's podcast Athletico Mince (possibly even if you don't, it's still funny but makes more sense if you know who he's talking about). He has completely free-reign to be insane. Not really something to react to but some youtubers have animated some bits of it (Peter Beardsley and Gangs of the EPL).

    Bob Mortimer used to do a chaotic, almost spoof, panel show with his comedy partner Vic Reeves. It was called Shooting Stars. I don't get Vic Reeves style of humour, it's too bizarre, but some of the Shooting Stars episodes were entertaining.

      I picked this one up in Africa, Charlie. It's the official 'national' jersey of Zanzibar, which is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. I've made it a bit of a habit over the years to bring home sports jerseys as souvenirs from my travels, and this particular one was too good to pass up.

      I doubt it. I think that they do try to balance the show. You rarely have two wildcards on the same episode, so Bob Mortimer doesn't appear with Henning Wehn, for example.
