Rory nails it. The party system is desperate for power... that isn't analagous with representation. I think it's now time for a proportional model.
An excellent, thoughtful interview. Well done.
Watching R S is quite gratifying!
What I believe is key here is the lack of accountability and how our political parties have complete licence to be as dishonest as they please. British Politics needs a serious rethink!
When Rory was running for leader, it was the only time I've really considered voting conservative. Measured and thoughtful.
Integrety is in short supply and is not held high as a value.
Dale says he believes all long serving governments end in the kind of mess we're seeing now. I recall a host of scandals during the Thatcher-Major era, but I don't recall Brown or Blair ever having a major new scandal every few weeks as we're seeing now. Partisan, are we?
Sorry but did not Blair/Brown end up with the illegal war scandal and bigot gate.
No, they just destroyed the country, selling all our Gold destroying all social cohesion.
As an MP you have to sell your soul and follow the whip. Your constituency can be thrown under a bus but you have to toe the line of the self served party.
It is just coming to light of Sunaks alleged role and fortune made in the ABN-Amro scandel. If true what is someone who personally benefited in millions from the taxpayer doing as PM. Can one imagine any Tories of old being involved in any get rich quick spiv operation like that if true? MacMillan etc. Made of completely different material.
He is spot on re the way politics works. As voters we moan about dishonesty but its a fact that taxes need to be raised to sort 14 years of Tory decline, yet the electorate are scared into not voting forva party that would raise tax.
We're already paying 97-99% tax, at least those of who pay tax are...
I could listen to Rory for hours. One of the very very VERY few Tories I hold in any regard higher than the trough.
This was a refreshing listen...
Very insightful analysis. Love it.
Didn't bojo kick stewart out? Along with all the other small c tories?
Rory notes the points very well - the limitations of political process and probably why we have slipped to popularist superficiality? The realities are we should be looking for politics should be about running technocracy based on competencies (reinforcing responsibilities) and accountability (decentralisation and looking at business principles)
We need intelligent non tribal people, so hopefully Rory can play some part in helping any Government.
"Minor" corruption??? Jesus!
We need Rory back ❤
I don't agree with his politics, but i do love the way Stuart thinks about politics
"Minor Corruption"...what a soft underplaying of theft from the public purse.
You are right ,they did at the end of Thatcher they were expecting to get back after 5 years but Blare lasted longer
Sounds like he feels disillusioned by Parliament on both sides. This is how i feel when it comes to UK politics and i don't like it. I have felt like for quite a few years. My feeling is that the union should break up and Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England should all become independent countries. I think the union is broken beyond repair. I won't be voting Labour, Liberal Democrats and i CERTAINLY won't be voting tory 🤮 next week i've already made my decision i will be voting SNP for Scotland and Scottish independence.
Rory I have a lot of Time for as he oozes honestly and speaks from the heart and totally common sense
Just two former candidates having a chin wag
All credit to Rory Stewart, an Honest and Honorable Man (a very rare commodity)
No No No it's not minor corruption it's major corruption from top to bottem!
I used to have respect for Rory Stewart, but instead of going independent or changing to a party that maybe would have given him the stage he rightly deserved and would have made an impact he just quit, doing the tories basically a favour. Whining about the tories [or rather any party] from the outside after being in is just not what one should join politics for. Coming on the radio whining about bad and corrupt people as if they're the only ones who should be running the country. What's the point.. It's like he just got tired of crying, telling them to stop constantly as they commited "minor corruption".
Rory says that Rishi called this election as a way to get out. Everything that Rishi has done since supports Rory's point.
Why would a career spent betting against the pound etc. prepare you well for running state public services.
The carnage of the Tory party was caused by people like Dale who wanted Brexit. No Brexit No chaos.
MINOR corruption?! 😵
Rory recommends Parliament 👍🤔
All this fantastic change Sunak promises! Why couldn’t he have it all years ago, suddenly a great future It’s all possible
His honesty is blinding.
Dale = Client Journalism
Sooo frustrating to listen to Stewart being open and honest and Ian still trying to cover up and spin.
What is the point Ian if you can’t be open and honest
Take responsibility Dale for having a hand in this Country being broken as a Tory voter 🤮
“Minor corruption”? Yeah, keep telling yourself it’s minor.
Rory looks like more of a leader
He looks emaciated
Come back rory....the only decent tory
virus - that sums up the Tories
You can communicate so much more in sorrow than in anger.
I think dales ok, I don’t often agree with him, but at least he sees the issue with the tories. I think that’s fair enough! He also gets different ppl with different views on his show.
Rory you and the elites always know best but here's the thing you don't. Rishi pulled a fast one & has smashed the party. The Rebuild will start next week. Need restoration of genuine values
