Mate it’s a great sport and it’s not that bad women and kid’s play it and honestly I reckon your game would be great too if you got rid of the pads helmets and all the stoppages ( not a criticism just an observation) Great work mate keep doing what you’re doing
Rugby is a world sport. The main difference between rugby and American football apart from the obvious lack of a suit of armour, is the fact that rugby is non stop action for 80 minutes and American football is action for five or 10 seconds and then a break for a chat or advertising 😊
Unfortunately the NFL keeps implementing new rules as the years go on that make the sport softer and softer. They are getting rid of the physicality of the game
I grew up in Virginia playing football, moved to Ireland and started rugby when I was a teenager. No pads and helmets is a good thing, you learn how to take a hit and how to deliver one safely. Now, granted that I will limp for the rest of my life and have had multiple operations, but rugby is the sport of kings
Obviously there are still injuries but people certainly get better at delivering proper tackles and also taking them instead of relying on gear to protect them.
Completely agree@@hendrikjordaan7510 rugby has ruined my limbs, ruined my back, but I met the greatest people and had the best of times. That feeling when you bump into an old team mate is incomparable
@@RgjDj1878 soccer was first used by the British as a slang term for association football in the early 1900's. then it was adopted by the US, while the term was phased out by the British, and it returned to being called football.
You are not wrong, my brother in law, got the back of his head cut open, then got his head stiched up at the side of the field, then carried on to play the rest of the game, not professionally just playing for a local team. I started playing when I was 12, but the rest of the school started playing at 9 or10
So myself being Welsh and rugby being our main sport, I absolutely love seeing Americans reacting to it with pure respect and admiration. Cheers for the enjoyable watch big man! 👍🏻
But they always focus on the hits, they miss the actual play. Let them watch a full game, start to finish, with a decent commentary. Then they will begin to appreciate the skill.
I played rugby for my school, we were quite highly rated in London (considering ours wasn't a public school, in the south of England it's mainly posh kids that play Rugby) We played in a tournament with a team from Wigan, Swansea and I can't remember the other team (it was over 20 years ago). We lost every match, especially the one against Swansea 😂
I'm 47 (South African, but I live in NZ now) played from 12 years to 28 years old...My shoulder, neck and knee are seriously fucked up lol. Would I go back and do it all again? In a heartbeat, the greatest sport, the best mates.
One of the things I always like to stress to Americans is that a lot of tackles in Rugby are done with proper technique, mainly because the lack of protection means you need to have good technique or you're losing teeth, breaking bones etc. The use of pads and helmets in the NFL has actually reduced the technique level of many players tackling, which leads to just throwing your body in like a missile at the guy. This is why the NFL has more concussions in general than most Rugby competitions.
Agreed but let's be fair, you practice technique in tackles as much to protect yourself when tackling, I've seem bad tacklers injured unnecessarily, this fella should check out being at bottom of a ruck lol
My son started Rugby 3 years ago. He's now 13 and honestly, playing Rugby has made him alot tougher, more respectful and brought out the best in him. Difficult to watch at 1st but now I love it.
My son started at 14, in a rough ex mining village. He is now 27, respects his elders to the point of calling them sir, helps his team mates at a moments notice and will do anything for his parents, support that young fella, it's worth it
Back in the 70s Rugby used to be the main boys sport in UK schools. They suddenly decided it was too dangerous because some boys were seriously injured, but life isn't risk free and if the boys want to play let them. Of course it also stopped boys in general growing up tough and TPTB seem to want weak ineffectual men, I think this was their real motive.
My husband played rugby for his regiment in the British army. He said the adrenaline carried them through. What's more, however aggressive the play, it was always left on the pitch. A hot bath, and then you were all sharing drinks in the bar with the opposition.
Rugby's a great game. I picked up far more injuries playing goalkeeper in football than I ever did playing rugby. And unlike football, everybody has a beer together after knocking chunks out of each other. Like I said.. great game!
I was playing rugby since year 3 of school and I haven’t stopped playing since it’s a amazing sport and you meet some really nice people on the pitch yeah you don’t really get injured unless the other team is playing dirty or you mess up an angle and get tackled because of it but even then it’s great because you feel so alive in that moment
I was on a flight just recently that had 2 rugby squads from South Africa on it. They were top flight teams I found out later, on their way to play a few european teams. I didn't realise until I saw them crammed into plane just how massive rugby players are. It was very impressive. Some of them stood around the toilet areas for most of the flight because they just couldn't fit into their seats. Watching normal men trying to squeeze between them on their way to the toilet without looking intimidated had me entertained for the whole flight.
My wife an I went to ta rugby game. It was at a complex where a soccer tournament was also going on. We walked past field after field of soccer players, then my wife said "oh, that must be the visiting team. They don't look like soccer players."
What you dont realise is the size of the players. Lowest weight on the field if theres a unusually small player is probably 12 or 13 stone but most are probably between 15 to 20 stone. Jonah lomu was 19+ stone but could do the 100 in 11 seconds. Granted he was special. Rip Jonah.
@@alistairclifton1286 i was 14st at 11 year old they threw me in with 15-16 year olds but my old man used to play for featherstone and went to school with Paul newlove and they practiced with me all the time .
In American football 14 stone is considered a small player. The official average weight is 17.5 stone. The official average height and weight of an NFL guard is 193 centimeters and 22.5 stone
My 16 year old DAUGHTER plays. And has done for 9 years. Girls aren’t allowed to play against boys from age 13. She’s 5’1”, weighs about 110 pounds and hits like a mini railroad train. Yes, I’m very proud of her.
Yeah, right. American football is much more violent. People die playing football, even while wearing pads and a helmet. People are injured in just about every game.
As the old adage goes: Rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen. It also gives our youngsters a sense of respect, discipline, and fair play. It makes you tough both physically and mentally and you only get out of the game what you put into it. I played for years - pure joy every time.
Aye, I wish I played it for longer. I went to a public boys school until my parents split & ended up at a grammar school afte where it wasn't played. We played full contact rugby from year 4-6. I look back fondly on my time getting my head stamped on with studs 😂 played for a local kids team for a couple of years after but miss it until this day!
The great thing about rugby is that it's a sport for every kid no matter how you're made If you're short and chunky you're a prop or a hooker - if you're tall you're a lock, if you're big and strong you're a number 8, if you're quick and strong and like to mix it up you're a flanker or a centre, if you're quick and have a bit of skill you're a half-back and if you're fast you're a winger. Any kid's got a place in the team
@@5ynthesizerpatel Don't forget the great Phil Bennett (Wales) - the quickest player I've ever seen. He may have been small by Rugby standards, but half the time the opponents never even saw him LOL!
Trust me they're not all gentlemen, the ones who go to a uni in the Town I lived are arrogant assholes, when they go out drinking in our town they they push everyone out the way, including womam, I lost my shit with one of them lol. However the England team do train there, I used to work at the uni amd we could see them practicing out of mu office window, phwor thanking you 😀 😉
In France we say "rugby is the school of the life" my daughter is playing rugby since she is 4 years old, she is 7 now and she still loves it 💕 it's the only sport where you have the right to swimm in the mud and fight against others and have your parents be proud of you because of it 😂
I had the pleasure of working in Florida in 2015 during the Rugby World Cup. My American military colleagues weren't familiar with Rugby but after watching the USA v the All Blacks, it lit a fire in them and they watched every game they could for the rest of the tournament. I'm surprised Rugby isn't more popular in the States.
It may happen eventually, it may just take a while. Look how long "proper" football (soccer) took to gain a foothold, now it's starting to take off & getting bigger all the time. Gotta stop calling soccer though, FFS, ya weirdos 😉
Rugby is dying in OZ while soccer is killing it. Rugby grounds within the suburbs are empty during the playing season so councils are converting them to soccer fields due to shortage of grounds for that sport. Registered participation for soccer is at 1,450,000 while Rugby is 170,000 and shrinking.
@@tricky1581 I think they call it soccer to avoid confusion. If you say "football" to an American, they'll assume you're talking about American Football. Similarly in parts of Australia, "football" means "rugby (football) league".
@@etiennedevignolles7538 yeah but the main argument is that they should call the game where the foot kicks the ball ( football) and give American football another name, to avoid confusion. Why call the game where for 90 minutes the foot is kicking the ball soccer? It was called football before the American game was even dreamed off, they should have given their game a different name
As a kid, rugby was my life. I ate, slept, dreamt, lived rugby. It was how I expressed and defined myself. Captained one of my teams to a national championships too. Sadly injury meant I never got to play for my country but friends did and they went on to win world championships. Best team sport in the world. Everything else, is childs play.
@@RazorMouth Bollocks, it is league that has taught union how to be exciting. Maybe you were born five minutes ago, by that comment Id say so. I remember when a union match would end 21-12 with 1 try, 1 conversion, 5 penalty goals and 3 drop goals. And they had to replace the ball because it was kicked so much. So dont talk out of your anus.
When you play rugby you aren't 'special' because you are big and hard, you learn dignity, respect and manners or you get pummelled by your peers.Football(soccer) is a gentle game played by thugs, Rugby is a thug's game played by gentlemen, an old saying but when you look at the respect the Ref gets it makes sense.
Because its a respect thing! The moment you stand up for yourself, you become a man and that demands respect. If you don't stand up for yourself, you ain't a man. Men hold a monoploy on violence, and we know it, so we must respect each other or it becomes violent.
5:13 "I don't know how they do this!" It's practice and training. Most of those tackles show flawless technical form. Remember that our children grow up playing rugby, we're taught at a young age how to play rugby without hurting ourselves and others.
Yup, we started playing British Bulldog from as young as I remember. No Ball, Just tackling. Put a fool in the middle and run through them until everyone is in the middle and 1 person is left dodging their tackles...Must have been 4yrs old playing that until I got to old for it and they gave us a ball, lol...
It's bad when you get American football players switching to rugby. I remember watching a usa england exhibition match 15+ years ago on tv, when the players walked off the pitch at full time half the England team were on the floor
That hit on the guy at about the 3.58 mark is what we call a hospital pass, that gonna send you to hospital. If you want to see one of the best, search for Jonah Lomu, an New Zealand All Black, rest his soul, he was a mountain of a man and could run sub 10 second 100 metre races, absolute beast. Gone way too soon but never forgotten.
Love that bro! Respect for your comment & I hope people take your advice & do look him up Chur! Rest In Peace my bro🙏🇳🇿🥝 My top3 would also have to be Dan Carter & Richie McCaw truly the sports 🌿🏉🏴 GOAT 🐐 Their representation of the Haka gives me chills every time 😭 ❤
Love my Rugby, watch as many matches as I can, my Brother played rugby.. live in UK from Irish parents and I married a Welsh man, so loads of fun cheering the sides on.. It is played everywhere now, with the England women's team doing well too. I believe it is beginning to be played more in the US too
The US has had a women's side (and a men's) for many years. The US women won the first ever women's world cup back in 1991 (I think) and the US are still Olympic 15s champions (it hasn't been played in the Olympics since they won the Gold in the 1920s)
"Run with it as much as you want but you can *ONLY* pass backwards" makes for a MUCH more agressive game imo. Plus what you often get with Rugby is not segregation in the stands & both teams supporters going out afterwards and getting the beers in together and without issue. It's a whole "gentleman thug" thing! 😁
@@bobbrowne3027 I dont know what you are talking about. English football has passing in all directions. In Rugby you ONLY pass backwards because forward progress is only made by throwing an 18 stone juggernaut at a wall of similarly huge men in an effort to smash through and drive play forward. You make no sense man :/
Love rugby. Lots of action, yet still a gentleman's sport without nasty fan behaviour. The wirst aspects of tackling have been tidied up as well so still plenty of action but less real danger of serious injury.
I still remember watching Faf de Klerk from the Springboks get knocked out in the first 40 seconds of the game, his neck snapped backwards and he was taken off.. He was perfectly fine and is playing today but the anxious moments of waiting for news that he was okay was so nerve wrecking
That's our national sport here in New Zealand. Your reaction was mine when as an 8 year old I was expected to play rugby lol. Love from New Zealand brother.
Did you notice how nearly EVERY time the ball carrier was tackled, the tackler wrapped his arms around the ball carrier? It's a requirement in Rugby and as a result the players in Rugby are way better tacklers than those in the NFL and NCAA football.
And regrettably, a large number - greater proportion, perhaps - of hits in this video were foul tackles that did not. There were dozens of illegal shoulder charges and above-the shoulder 'tackles.
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Gridiron doesn't allow grappling during a tackle, anf has to be open handed, so pushing and basic impact to tackle the player. Mostly what would be classed as illegal in Rugby.
@@stuartspencer2161 I will assume that "Gridiron" refers to American football and that "grappling" refers to locking your hands around or grabbing the uniform of an opposing player. In fact, the only time a football player is allowed to do either to an opponent is when that opponent is in possession of the ball.
They start from young. Getting knocked and falling (hard) a lot simply makes you tougher and more pain tolerant, learn to take the punches. Even the skin get tougher. It's an amazing sport that is actually a strategic mental game which is coordinated and executed very physically and sometimes relentlessly.
Very proud to be South African right now.... we are one of the biggest teams in the world. The Rugby World Cup has just started and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!! (SA 42 - Aussies 12 earlier tonight)
It's not the Rugby World Cup playing now it's the Rugby Championship between New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina... The Rugby World Cup starts in September in France... Ps, congrats on beating Aussie. Now it's our turn ( the All Blacks that is ) and on to win the Rugby Championship.... Good luck in the world cup .... it could come down to you and us
Played both Rugby and Rugby League here in NZ from age six up into my early thirties and loved every minute of it with my old rugby team (we were all school mates) we went undefeated including all preseason games for three straight seasons and still hold the record in the club to this very day it’s unbeaten. The USA actually have a national rugby team as well bro you should check them out if you haven’t done so already! 🏉❤
Jip,the USA is getting better and better. Not saying they'll ever compete at the same level as the AB's,Bokke,Aussies,England and now the VERY good Irish but once in a blue moon they'll frighten bigger teams. Go BOKKE! 🇿🇦💪🏻♥️
My husband is the gentlest kindest man in the world so patient and he works with boys who have been expelled from all the local schools as a home tutor for those that thrown out of that school tool . So he builds up a lot of frustration over the weeks, I realise these kids are deeply troubled but they push every button they can find. He plays Rugby , he tackles hard and is all set up for a new week of educating these troubled kids. You will find most Rugby players are really sweet and gentle, look at Mike Tindall, looks like a real street thug and is married to Zara Philips ,King Charles III neice.
I played from 14 until I was 51 , apart from a few cuts, broken nose, and dislocations it was a great part of my life, and I wouldn't have changed anything. I was wing forward/flanker for most of my career and I was a tackling coach, i weighed 17 stone 240lbs so I could absorb a lot of impact.
Rugby union football, commonly known simply as rugby union or more often just rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in England in the first half of the 19th century.
Rugby has been going on for well over 100 years and is so big around the world these days with teams from places like Argentina, Fiji and Samoa and they're very exciting to watch. By fat the most brutal though are South Africa, they're literally monsters. Google them and see some of their videos, I think you'll love them
Rugby is one of the best games in the world - free flowing, hard hitting and always exciting. It's very technical but with strict rules too. The closest you have in N America is probably NHL. Some of those hits in the video were questionable if not illegal. What you can't really see is just how big and strong some of those players are. At moments, the expression on your face were priceless.
I'd say the hits in hockey are on a different level compared to Rugby. I have played Rugby, and nowadays play rec hockey, but pro hockey is just ridiculous.
@@endurojimmy3109 I'd agree for the reason that hockey players travel at much greater speeds and so there's more momentum and force (I'm not a physicist BTW) .
I also played. Some injuries haunt me now in my 40'd but I will do it again. I remember having a girl close my black eye with make up for class photo. Love this game.
My son was first team....if the phone rang on thev Rugby Saturday, I knew it was the hospital calling.....but he would be back on that field in no time....he still looks like a rugby player even 9 years after High School....
Aussie chick here. My first impression of American gridiron was that it is played by a bunch of 🐈🐈🐈🐈 because none of our codes wear helmets or pads like you guys. But there are a lot of rules in our sports like no head high tackles or spiking. Does not having protective gear make our footballers more likely to get concussion or less because there are more rules? Or does wearing a helmet cause more concussions because they get hit harder as they are wearing so-called "protection"? Idk. Discuss.
I really appreciate your reaction. Yes rugby football is still very much being played the world over by men and by women too. There are two main forms: rugby union and rugby league. I would highly recommend you now take a look at the mighty late great Jonah Lomu, a man mountain of New Zealand rugby union who was a sheer phenomenon of the game. His exploits on the field of rugby union have to be seen to be believed.
When my son was in the Navy, they would play Rugby on the base in the snow in Chicago in the middle of the night; doesn’t sound like a good time to me, but he loved it 😂
As a French, i can say that in rugby schools for kids (both boys and girls), they don't practice tackles because of danger. But they learn how to fall, how to resist to stay their two legs, how to catch the ball from adversaries, and how to enjoy, because, in reality, it's a team fighting sport. In many places all over Europe, in ancient time (i.e. since medieval age), villages "played" game in witch the goal is to put something (typically a big ball) to the church of the opponents. In France it was called "la soule" and it was extremely dangerous with possible deaths (yes, we started it as some kind of war"). So now, it is a little more civilized but still hard, physical and sometime harmful but honestly the rules are evolving to adresse commotional issues. For example, you can't tackle over the shoulders because of the neck, you can't tackle an opponent who is still on his jump. You have to wait his (her) feet are on the ground, and so on. Really, this sport seems very brutal when played by senior men but try to see feminine rugby. As woman don't have the same size, they must find other tricks to win the game. Personally, i enjoy women's game because it's different and very interesting. Have a good day and happy new year.
Never heard of Rugby?! 😱 I naively just thought every country on the globe knew at least of the sports existence lol 😅 but I know for FACT that New Zealand have the best & toughest national Rugby team of all time! GO ALL BLACKS!! 🇳🇿🥝🖤🌿 ❤ U Richie McCaw you da GOAT🐐

See if you can track down some of Jona Lomu's best games. Once watched him dragging 3 men down the pitch like they were rag dolls. And when you see the size of these men up close you appreciate it even more. The injuries can be horrendous...but what a game !!
Used to play Rugby in high school. Ended up having eight stitches inside my lower lip after catching the heal of a boot (cleat) when I slipping forward during a "Ruck" move (looks like players piling on top of each other). It can get bloody but the adrenaline is so high, you just want to carry on playing 😂.
I played school and club rugby in Namibia. Broke 3 ribs, my nose 2 times, cracked my sternum, countless pop eyes and had two operations to remove torn cartilage from both knees. If I could, I would do it again. Loved the sport. Great time sport where discipline can be crucial to a win or loss. The ref should also be treated with respect, you can be sent off for backchat and also get a match ban. The after parties with the opposing team was also legendary.
i played for 34 years, up to semi pro level. its an amazing sport, the main reason we put ourselves through it is for our team mates. if you want to see a cross over, Christian Wade made it on to a training squad of an NFL team and ruined a few defenses. he came back to rugby after a while though. there are a good number of teams now in the USA. i cannot recommend going to a smaller team, watching them and then having a few beers with them enough.
When I played rugby as a kid in England. I broke a bone in each game. 😂 After six games my mother never let me play again! I was 7! I broke fingers toes a tooth Fracture a thigh! I seriously love that game!😅
Not entirely true, but pound for pound the Rugby (League)players rule in one on one tackling...in the NFL, a player of Lomus size is common...and no arms are required in the tackle + gang Bang 3+ tacklers in 1 hit. Many of the layers also have Olympic speed...but for all Rugby codes, we handle the jandle!!😊
What North Americans call football was developed from rugby at the colleges and universities of central Canada in the 1860s. You can see the similarities: field lines, running with the ball, lateral or backwards pass, goal posts (in the US they were moved to the back while in Canada they're still in the front).
My understanding of the rugby origins of American football is the only reason I can now accept to it as 'foot'ball.😂 Rugby is different code of football, and developed out of football. I tried explaining this to someone the other day. They were still somehow confused. Must be the way I tell 'em, eh!😂😂

Rugby (the international union version) is actually played in the US. My stepson used to play it regularly when serving in the US Marines. He loved the game. We used the same saying in hong kong in the 90s but said hooligans instead of thugs or ruffians. I once played at the hong kong sevens in 1998 was on finals day in front of 20-25 thousand people. It was the finals of the school competition that was played a few weeks before the sevens tournament. Then one of the new zealand players gave us our medaks, was meant to be jonah lomu but i believe he was ill or injured n didn't make it there. Still Top3 experiences in my life though.
The women are proving to be excellent gameplayers as well in the Australian national Rugby League, NRLW comp. Less aggressive, but excellent technicians. Newcastle Knights are back to back premiers. The Wallaroos, Rugby Union, have just beaten the French team in an international.
So glad to see American appreciation for Rugby. You'll notice too that in Rugby you don't often see "dirty hits". Rugby men (and women) learn how to hit and tackle properly.
There are 2 kinds of rugby - league and union. Both are played professionally in many countries (most commonly the UK where it was invented, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the pacific islands such as Fiji, Samoa etc.) Some of this footage is from international matches. @@77MrRd Can't say that because when I looked it up there was a surprising number of countries that do play American Football. I think the difference lies in when you talk about a World Series/Cup. I LOVE RUGBY 🏉 💗. In my country rugby is the biggest sport. We competed in the world cup but sadly lost (though the ref was unfair and kept calling stupid plays). Idk I find American football werid. ALL BLACK'S 🔛🔝
One of the most impressive sights is to see an attacking player get taken down REALLY HARD... but then to get straight back on their feet and go again, like nothing fazed them at all!! THAT'S the measure of toughness we like!

Thank you for reacting to rugby, My favourite aspect of rugby is watching these huge players give total respect to the referee. The referee is the boss, no matter how small. No one argues with the referee.
There are a lot of rules making the game a lot safer than it used to be. Most of those tackles would have resulted in a penalty kick for the other team. And you’re not allowed to tackle a player who is NOT holding the ball. FYI, the Rugby World Cup is currently on, so go watch it!
I played rugby in the Sixth Form and at Uni. Loved it. Great sport and great for building friendships and communities. My dad moved across the country when he left uni, and his new social circle became the local rugby club - and still is over 50yrs later.
My SIL plays rugby. The first time I went to a game with my daughter, my future SIL had just had his 3 middle fingers bent back to the wrist in a tackle. He got them taped up and went back in the game! Rugby players are tuff, let me tell you!
I can always remember being at school and is doing Rugby for Physical Education, the rules were “full contact” but because I’m like twice the size of most people in my year I would get into some trouble for full on tackling people 😂 Got to the point where one minute I’d be complained at for injuring people (the tackles were completely legal) then the next I had the teacher come up to me and ask if I wanted to play for the schools rugby team 😂😂
I had a teacher who played rugby for Exeter, he came in one day boasting of his achievement, he managed to stamp on the head of a opposition player in his weekend game, but his happyness was more in the fact that the player in question played for Englands national team.
Rugby started in rugby school ,Warwickshire, England around 1823/1845 and is still played worldwide to this day. Look up 5 Nations Rugby. This is taught in Secondary school (11 to 17 year old's) I myself played on the wing and sometimes as the Hooker ( the guy who is held up by the props in the scrum and try's to get the ball first when placed into a scrum) Great fun and there are rules on how you tackle.
It's a man's game. When younger I liked to fight, so I started playing rugby. My biggest achievement was having to play for the other side as they had run out of subs. I was told by my captain to make the team proud. I broke two noses on my team, scored 3 tries and was bought a pint from every man on the opposite team. My team lost because of me and my team was proud that I put 110 in to my performance. If you don't mind getting hit, it's a fantastic game to play. You have a fight on the pitch and buy the guy a pint afterwards. I played against my ex wife's ex and he took me out really hard twice and sprained both my ankles, when he said sorry after, I said I would have done the same to him if I'd had the chance, we are still friends.
Nah, it's not a "man game" like you said. Manly, or brutal, and open if you want. But not man. Hell, I know women playing it, and female rubgy exist (and is great). And even if physically they can't (obviously) play it with man (mixed rugby is a total idiotic idea 😂) they are as brash, brutal and open betwen themself than man are. And yes, I have play and like to play (for a short time, sadly) when younger.
Our sons start playing formally at 9 years old. BUT by their first birthday they would own a rugby ball. Once an American friend visited here in South Africa and I took him to a match in the super 10 (yearly competition between 10 best 10 teams of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand). He loved, loved loved it. Was on his feet most of the time. Declared we have the best spectator sport in the world. He loved one day cricket too.
Rugby is a beautiful sport, unfortunately broke my knee and I’m unable to step on to the field ever again, but I still love it. It truly is the best sport ever… ❤
It might surprise you how few major injuries occur because of big hits and tackles. Most injuries in tackles occur when it is not done properly. Young players also find out real quick that the most certain way to get hurt is to hold back - because your opponent is not holding back.
Also keep your head down and don't listen to this pussy thinking keeping his head up is somehow going to help see this is what padding does it teaches you to be a pussy and in return you only endanger yourself oh yeah someone is going to charge me and so long as they hit me my neck is gonna be rocked back and forth and great speed and power I know let me tilt my head so that it limits on how far back my neck is willing to go so when that person does hit me it's just gonna snap the bastard.
Years ago, my son was invited to travel to Australia to play in a tournament of American football. The Aussie boys liked our football, because they could still walk at the end of the game!😂
Rugby is definitely still being played. Watch the world championships starting in September in France. Best game to play and now watch as a 64 year old
My son and daughter both played rugby as teenagers. My brother is a coach for under 18s and his son played as well. My son had to give up as repeated dislocations meant he had to have surgery on his shoulder and arm. If played with good technique injuries are kept to a minimum.

Rugby is a world sport. The main difference between rugby and American football apart from the obvious lack of a suit of armour, is the fact that rugby is non stop action for 80 minutes and American football is action for five or 10 seconds and then a break for a chat or advertising 😊

TWO buggered knees, a dicky shoulder and a nose I will never breathe through properly. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Obviously there are still injuries but people certainly get better at delivering proper tackles and also taking them instead of relying on gear to protect them.

I played rugby for my school, we were quite highly rated in London (considering ours wasn't a public school, in the south of England it's mainly posh kids that play Rugby) We played in a tournament with a team from Wigan, Swansea and I can't remember the other team (it was over 20 years ago).

Unless you shoulder charge to the head like we see here but I get you. It's how my little brother takes down guys 60lbs heavier at 12. Technique.
This is especially true of tackles in the open field.
Agreed. Timing is everything.
Taking one for the team!
Agreed but let's be fair, you practice technique in tackles as much to protect yourself when tackling, I've seem bad tacklers injured unnecessarily, this fella should check out being at bottom of a ruck lol

Like I said.. great game!
Best part of it

My daughter plays rugby. She's played in a rugby team since she was in secondary school. She's an engineer now. It's a great all round sport.
I am the same played rugby for 40 years main injuries were playing soccer
I was on a flight just recently that had 2 rugby squads from South Africa on it. They were top flight teams I found out later, on their way to play a few european teams. I didn't realise until I saw them crammed into plane just how massive rugby players are. It was very impressive. Some of them stood around the toilet areas for most of the flight because they just couldn't fit into their seats. Watching normal men trying to squeeze between them on their way to the toilet without looking intimidated had me entertained for the whole flight.
🤣
My wife an I went to ta rugby game. It was at a complex where a soccer tournament was also going on. We walked past field after field of soccer players, then my wife said "oh, that must be the visiting team. They don't look like soccer players."
Rugby players bulk is fairly recent though. I've been watching rugby for years, and some of the best players were really wiry and very fast.
What you dont realise is the size of the players. Lowest weight on the field if theres a unusually small player is probably 12 or 13 stone but most are probably between 15 to 20 stone.
Jonah lomu was 19+ stone but could do the 100 in 11 seconds. Granted he was special.

As the old adage goes: Rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen. It also gives our youngsters a sense of respect, discipline, and fair play. It makes you tough both physically and mentally and you only get out of the game what you put into it. I played for years - pure joy every time.
Englands hooligans did well on the fields, in the terraces and in the street.

The other saying is...with Rugby, hooligans on the field, gentlemen in the viewing crowds....Soccer, hooligans in the crowds, gentlemen on the field.
The great thing about rugby is that it's a sport for every kid no matter how you're made
If you're short and chunky you're a prop or a hooker - if you're tall you're a lock, if you're big and strong you're a number 8, if you're quick and strong and like to mix it up you're a flanker or a centre, if you're quick and have a bit of skill you're a half-back and if you're fast you're a winger.

Yes you have to tackle with both arms...
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Gridiron doesn't allow grappling during a tackle, anf has to be open handed, so pushing and basic impact to tackle the player. Mostly what would be classed as illegal in Rugby.

But there are a lot of rules in our sports like no head high tackles or spiking.
Does not having protective gear make our footballers more likely to get concussion or less because there are more rules? Or does wearing a helmet cause more concussions because they get hit harder as they are wearing so-called "protection"? Idk. Discuss.

Pity All Blacks are going to lose against Springboks this World Cup....😎
They must have seen your post and took it out on Italy, Anyway as much as it hurts this proud Scotsman, Ireland are the team to beat. @@johansteyn23664
@@johansteyn23664South Africa have to qualify for the quarter finals yet. Ireland and Scotland may have a different plan for you. Good luck, fingers crossed they do the right thing and both sides play fairly for the win.

You have to remember that a lot of Americans don't know anything about the rest of the world. Statistically, 40% of them never leave the US ever in their lives, not even for a holiday.
See if you can track down some of Jona Lomu's best games. Once watched him dragging 3 men down the pitch like they were rag dolls. And when you see the size of these men up close you appreciate it even more. The injuries can be horrendous...but what a game !!
Lomu was a god.
I remember something like that. Was it ‘95?
I couldn't remember his name, only him and how great he was. Thanks.
Go back to the 80s and Buck Shelford. Lost a nut in a game vs South Affrica. They stitched the sack and he went back on. And that's a true story.
@@petiseiuli1433 Wow, I honestly thought you were kidding until I looked it up. He apparently lost four teeth in the same incident, too.
It's a sport that schoolchildren play. I played for my school from 11 years old to 18 years old! Great fun.
Ek ken daai pyn
i played for 34 years, up to semi pro level. its an amazing sport, the main reason we put ourselves through it is for our team mates. if you want to see a cross over, Christian Wade made it on to a training squad of an NFL team and ruined a few defenses. he came back to rugby after a while though. there are a good number of teams now in the USA. i cannot recommend going to a smaller team, watching them and then having a few beers with them enough.
When I played rugby as a kid in England. I broke a bone in each game. 😂 After six games my mother never let me play again! I was 7! I broke fingers toes a tooth Fracture a thigh! I seriously love that game!😅
Ladies rugby teams would probably piss all over most NFL teams!
And to think this is a game we play in our schools 😂 even our school children play harder than the NFL 😂
I’m 70 now and remember those days clearly, great still puts a smile on my face.
Rugby is a game women play as it's so soft.
You know what sport women don't play? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sure do.
What North Americans call football was developed from rugby at the colleges and universities of central Canada in the 1860s. You can see the similarities: field lines, running with the ball, lateral or backwards pass, goal posts (in the US they were moved to the back while in Canada they're still in the front).
My understanding of the rugby origins of American football is the only reason I can now accept to it as 'foot'ball.😂
Rugby is different code of football, and developed out of football.
I tried explaining this to someone the other day. They were still somehow confused. Must be the way I tell 'em, eh!😂😂
@blooblak01 but rugby (1845) is older then Association football(1863)
@@blooblak01 football (soccer), american football and rugby all originated from a game in europe played in the middle ages. It developped in England into two streams: one where hands were mostly used (rugby) and one where feet were mostly used (football). The rugby one developped into American Football.
@@aaohknsn it actually comes from playing footie when the ball was picked up in the middle of a game founded rugby england
And the touchdown as well. In the earlier days of football I assume it was necessary (as in rugby) to literally touch the ball down in the end-zone.
My college toured the US in 1976, playing rugby. Went from LA up to Vancouver, played 8 games in 17 days. It was a tough tour, by the time we made it to Vancouver half the team was carrying injuries, but we played anyway.
Yeah the most unsafe rugby players are those who switched from America Football. I once watched an US Eng exhibition match on tv 15+ years ago. Half the eng team were on the ground at full time
This is why American football hasn't taken off around the world. It's a step down from the true sport of rugby 💪
Rugby (the international union version) is actually played in the US. My stepson used to play it regularly when serving in the US Marines. He loved the game. It is a regular saying that Rugby compared with football (Soccer to you) is that “Rugby is a game for Ruffians played by gentlemen, whilst football is a game for gentlemen played by ruffians”
Rubbish!
@@valsyaranamual6853 some intelligent reply that is. My comment at least is initially based on fact, and the second part on humour. Yours is just shouting out your lack of knowledge.
@@steveglufcWe usually say thugs rather than ruffians, but other than that, very accurate. 🙂
Ooooh yeah, the NZ women's team...dang!
Yup. My granddaughter played rugby for schools, went on to specialise in sport injuries
Oh, and the women hit hard too.
American Football is played in America and has a following in some European countries, but Rugby is played in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Italy, Argentina, Fiji, Samoa, Canada among others
Don’t forget the number 1 ranked team in the world 🇮🇪
You may as well say American football is played in America but Rugby is played in every other country including some in U.S.
@@77MrRd Can't say that because when I looked it up there was a surprising number of countries that do play American Football. I think the difference lies in when you talk about a World Series/Cup. Only American teams compete for football championships, but when you talk about Rugby it literally is any country in the world can enter.
@@GSD-hd1yh ,,, Of course , you are right , I'm sure there are also american football leagues in other countries but I thought too minor to mention 🤔
@@77MrRd They ARE too minor to mention 😂
American sports can learn a thing of two of the rest of the world. Toughness, technique and sportmansship. Specially the NFL.
Rugby is played by many countries, including, but not limited to,England, Wales, Scotland , Ireland , France , Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan and Canada. The last rugby World Cup,was held in Japan and I had the privilege of watching the Japanese beat South Africa in the previous rugby World Cup ( a highly I unexpected result!).
Add Argentina, Fiji, Samoa and as a minor sport in quite a few more. NZ always the glamour team - the team to beat!
Chille have a good little team great game the outher day
Add Portugal to the list too.
If you want to see the pinnacle of Rugby League, a 3 game series called State of Origin will be played over the next 2 months. It is between 2 Australian states and features the best of the best in the sport. It is described by most countries, who play rugby league as the worlds best example of the sport. If you want more details, gimmie a shout out and I'll come back to you later with the dates of the competition games. I think it would make for great content for your audience.
Best of the best in the sport? Fighting words those.
Maybe in Australia lol
Thank you for reacting to rugby, My favourite aspect of rugby is watching these huge players give total respect to the referee. The referee is the boss, no matter how small. No one argues with the referee.
There are a lot of rules making the game a lot safer than it used to be. Most of those tackles would have resulted in a penalty kick for the other team. And you’re not allowed to tackle a player who is NOT holding the ball. FYI, the Rugby World Cup is currently on, so go watch it!
Well said. I lot of now disallowed tackles in there.
Real mans sport! Rugby players look at American footballers and think "why all that padding??" 😂
Love that reply
No dude that is what you think..

I played rugby in the Sixth Form and at Uni. Loved it. Great sport and great for building friendships and communities.
My dad moved across the country when he left uni, and his new social circle became the local rugby club - and still is over 50yrs later.

The only game.
My SIL plays rugby. The first time I went to a game with my daughter, my future SIL had just had his 3 middle fingers bent back to the wrist in a tackle. He got them taped up and went back in the game! Rugby players are tuff, let me tell you!
You won’t feel scared when you’ve been playing it since you were younger than 10 at school
I played rugby most of my life, made some good friends, thought me respect and team effort, not for everyone but I loved it, all of it 😊
I can always remember being at school and is doing Rugby for Physical Education, the rules were “full contact” but because I’m like twice the size of most people in my year I would get into some trouble for full on tackling people 😂
Got to the point where one minute I’d be complained at for injuring people (the tackles were completely legal) then the next I had the teacher come up to me and ask if I wanted to play for the schools rugby team 😂😂
I had a teacher who played rugby for Exeter, he came in one day boasting of his achievement, he managed to stamp on the head of a opposition player in his weekend game, but his happyness was more in the fact that the player in question played for Englands national team.
Yes indeed...le rugby est un sport d’hommes 😉😉😉
Actually we have the best woman's team ever - love from NZ!
Aussie here, I grew up with my grandfather and uncles all playing Rugby, is huge here, so is AFL Aussie Rules.
Rugby is a SHEER-PURE ANIMAL sport!!!!!
Dudes have no fear
As an Australian Rugby and Rugby league are the games I have grown up with, great game! powerful, skillful and brutal!
Rugby is a beautiful sport, unfortunately broke my knee and I’m unable to step on to the field ever again, but I still love it. It truly is the best sport ever… ❤
in england we have a saying ,..... " football ( soccer ) is a gentlemans game played by ruffians , and rugby is a ruffians game played by gentlemen "
It might surprise you how few major injuries occur because of big hits and tackles. Most injuries in tackles occur when it is not done properly. Young players also find out real quick that the most certain way to get hurt is to hold back - because your opponent is not holding back.
The best advice ever... don't hold back...😎
Also keep your head down and don't listen to this pussy thinking keeping his head up is somehow going to help see this is what padding does it teaches you to be a pussy and in return you only endanger yourself oh yeah someone is going to charge me and so long as they hit me my neck is gonna be rocked back and forth and great speed and power I know let me tilt my head so that it limits on how far back my neck is willing to go so when that person does hit me it's just gonna snap the bastard.
Love rugby! Don’t fully understand the rules yet but I am trying to. I finally figured out hockey so I hope I can figure out this sport too!

Years ago, my son was invited to travel to Australia to play in a tournament of American football. The Aussie boys liked our football, because they could still walk at the end of the game!😂
Good one.
