Rob, came here to say this and the “why you need powerful lighting” series has seriously changed my confidence moving forward when lighting my own projects. I came up primarily doing run and gun solo corporate/social media freelance work and never really explored pro lighting setups. So this stuff has been super helpful for me to get a sense of how setup looks like and why were are using these setups and settings. Thank you.
Your videos are amazing!! Though I'm not a cinematographer or anything that deals with filming in general, I do illustrations for work and your videos help me a lot to understand color, lighting, and mood setting. Keep up the brilliant work!
Man, your channel was one of the bests things i have found on UA-cam in a long time, i learned so much watching your videos, thank you for the awesome lessons!
So, you're the first person, where i really consider beeing a patreon. I honestly always wondered why some people get out of their way to support creators. But i get it now. When my income is a bit more sturdy, i'll support you! Thank you for this video Rob!
That is too kind Chris! Makes creating these videos worth it to know there are people who would show that level of support for my work, where they usually might not - so I really appreciate it!
Bought the course and its worth every penny, so much better than some of the other courses that i bought (cough, cough, especially those hundreds of dollars ones. Lol)
👏👏You are extremely detailed, and every detail helps us understand better. I would like to ask you to make a video deepening the importance of blocking light, because without it light leaks and does not create the desired look, controlling light through blocking is very important, and I would love to learn from you.
That’s why it’s really helpful to create a custom LUT for monitoring during the shoot. So you can get an idea of how the final result is gonna look like even tho it’s lit brighter for example.
Wonderful, as always. I really can't have my focus fade away during your videos because of how perfectly made they are. I'll remember to get that full video and keep it as a wonderful, enjoyable reference. I will as well spread the word about your work and channel when I start posting or when I talk to other videographers. I can't thank you enough for your brilliant work and hope you the very best!🥳

@@ivancuetowicq twin brother! 🤫 haha! Yeah using myself as subject started as a necessity during the pandemic, but I've just kind of stuck with it in most occasions, as it works and saves me a little money! :)
Great video. My only question would be......for the bathroom mirror shot, is there any reason to use a greenish rbg hue with the lights rather than just matching the color temps in camera exactly and then adjusting the neutral tones to be more green in post through color grading, assuming you have the time and effort to get that desired look? Obviously scenes where you want two distinct color sources or in locations where legitimate rbg colors exist it would make sense to match those, but I'm wondering if there is an advantage to get those skewed neutral hues in camera?
Hey Rob, Sorry to keep bugging man 😅. But for the bathroom mirror shot, you said you had both lights set to a murky green. But in the bts it looks like only the fill light in the back is set to green. The key looks more like a daylight. If both were green wouldn’t it give the footage a monochrome look?
Haha it's all good man!! So the key was actually desaturated a bit more than the accent/background light - you can see in the final shot the skin tone is still a little green but not quite as saturated as the back wall. The BTS shot was taken on a phone which probably struggled a bit with the subtle changes in colour between the 2 lights, so I imagine that's why it looks more like daylight in the BTS!
Insane! I'll try to replicate the bathroom a la Silent Hill 2 scene hahaha, I just don't understand one thing, did u set both lights to green? the key light must the white, or am I wrong?
Hey Gabriel, thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the videos! Music is always from Audiosocket :) I usually advertise this in the video as I've got an affiliate link but it's usually right at the end!
Rob I really like your videos which are very good, but i have a question, how you setup lets say the mirror part but the establishing shot, how do you hide all the fixtures and panels, again thanks a lot for your content.
Thank you so much! Well let's say our establishing shot is a wide from outside the bathroom door - all we'd need to do is move that key light up out of frame and reposition it slightly so we have a similar pattern of light on the face. If we want a wider shot from inside the bathroom we'd do the same thing - reposition things so that they are as close as possible to the look of the close up, without being in frame.
Thank you Sean! Unfortunately not for the time being - it didn't really reflect the quality of my newer work so I took it down a while back. I am however remaking it soon, so it will be back, in a better form! :)
