Good morning! I am an almost 80 year old woman, and much of what you say is applicable for both men and women. The line of poetry is “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, for his dying father. I feel that as I get older, I am learning to burn, and I rage against my close of day! This July, for my birthday, I am taking a solo road trip to Durango, CO, to ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge RailRoad. On the road to Durango and back, I am going to tent camp for the first time in over 50 years! And I am going to make a video of the trip, so I am learning a new skill, also! I am going to have a tent erecting party, to find out if I can put up my tent by myself (I did get a self erecting and collapsing tent), before I go out, as a shakedown. I continue to modify my list of things I have to bring with me. I have no words descriptive enough to say how much I am going to enjoy doing something I did as a youngster and into my 30s. (By my early 40s, we had a slip in camper on a pickup, and drove to Alaska. Very civilized, compared to tent camping in the 1950s.) I don’t plan on going gentle into that good night, I want to skid into Heaven, with a smile on my face, thinking, “What a great ride! Thank you, God!”
Wow. By the time you find this, your adventure should be well underway or over. Best of luck to you. I hope you post your adventure for others to see. It would be awesome to see it. I hope it all went well or is going well. A strong and inspirational woman you are. God will be proud of you.
That poem is my favorite, and I try living accordingly. Sometimes I do feel thinking "am I just waiting to die" but then I remember my son, my good friends, my work I love, and I am still healthy. There is only now, don`t lie in bed unless you are tired sleeping my friends, there is no destination, there is only now. Good for you to refusing to go gently into that good night, for raging against the dying of the light, although your wisdom tells you that the dark is right. There is really only now, dont fear the future and the end, it is a privilege to experience life no matter what the reality is. Love you all my human sisters and brothers! p.s. ua-cam.com/video/h6fcK_fRYaI/v-deo.html
How awesome you are! I have lived in Durango for the past year and I hope your trip was a beautiful success! Your spirit is beautiful, sincere and what we all need to carry throughout life! God bless!!
As a 53 year old police officer, diagnosed with PTSD, my self confidence and self esteem was non existent. I started horse riding, equestrian therapy this year. Now I’m mustering cattle, volunteering at horse rescue and riding my dirt bike. I found my sense of adventure again and rebuilding myself 🇦🇺
I understand that. It is a dangerous profession and you are called to deal with awful situations, and very unpredictable people. Thanks for your service and heal yourself. Peace
I am 65 years old and live off grid by myself. Every day is and adventure and fight for survival. I lost 65 pounds, reversed type 2 diabetes, got off of 31 medicines the doctors were killing me with. I lift weights, hunt and cut all my own firewood. So do hard things and be strong.
I'm 73 , I've started riding my bicycle , walking 14,000 steps a day and this year I'm getting a kayak . I don't plan on going gently anywhere . Thank you for your time Sir .
If I could define you, it would be Mr. Rogers for adults. You explain things and talk about things that we all struggle with. You’ve got a sound mind, and a good heart, and you present it all with a friendly demeanor that makes me wish you were my neighbor. God bless you.
You struck a cord on this one. My wife and I are 75 and live in a 'retirement community". We were active for all our lives and retired. Last summer we decided to tent camp for 3 months in the San Juan forest both in campgrounds and dispersed. I didn't know what I missed for 15 years of "letting the old man in". We proved we could do it and wanted more. Didn't want to go home.. People we met were amazed that at our age we could still do it. Next year we will be doing it again. Don't let the old man in. What Dwayne says is true. We lived it and now my wife and i have a rejuvenated life. Feels good.
That's a wonderful story of inspiration on many fronts. Thank you! Never give up, except to the LORD GOD... seek Him first then all will be added! 🙋♀️🕊🗝📖🌾
I swear to you, i have never had someone hold my attention, talk so much sense, and to be so interesting in my life. i really could just listen to him for hours. Hes got the gift.
It rips my heart in two being an older sister seeing how many people are in the same boat as me ...without a strong father figure. My two younger siblings also break my heart to think of all we endured but at least its over all we can really do is just forgive our father for the damage he caused doing what he did to my mother and being selfishand calculated. Hopefully we can all figure things out and heal
We need more men like this gentleman to speak to the younger generations about masculinity. If we don't reach out to them and offer a resource, they'll be lost and we can't afford that. Enough with Governments and elites telling us what we should be like... if we don't give back to them via information or suggestions or even just experiences, our country will suffer greatly.
Sir, this is a truly valuable piece of wisdom that applies to so much. I am your age and my father is 83. He called me yesterday with excitement in his voice for our upcoming elk season. He still runs a busy fishing guide service on the Columbia river and has an all day sturgeon trip with 4 clients a day before he plans to leave for elk camp. He talked about all of the gear and equipment he needs to get loaded that next night and how the gas cans and propane tanks are heavier for him nowadays, but he is still able and has the grit to get through it. Don't let the old man in.
This reminds me of being in Texas. I work in a blue collar industry that's still very new, chaotic, and difficult, but I take a great sense of pride in the job that I do. I happened to meet a man who ran a ziplining attraction down in Texas who was probably pushing 70 but wore the face of someone much younger- he was among the first guys hired in the industry that wasn't an engineer, and he got the job by going into their office every day for over a month asking for a job. What a character. Felt like he paved the way for guys like me to make something of themselves coming from nothing. I have to admit I'm not even 30 yet but feel as though I've lost my spark. The job doesn't excite me anymore. Life doesn't. I suppose I got used to things and started asking myself why I was so obsessed with being the hardest worker in the room, so I slowed down. Looking back at it, maybe that was a mistake. I'm more comfortable, but less alive. There's a price we pay for comfort. Do not go gently into that good night.
@@Jeebus-un6zz I just read both these comments and honestly both resonate so much. @Jeebus-un6zz, I've been thinking similarly as well - but indeed, I think it's inspiring stuff like this and seeing people in the long-tail of things still going for it and achieving awesome things, that can give some encouragement and bigger perspective as well. Nicely-written quote at the end btw - and yeah, is also nice to remember to make the most of being around all the amazing stuff in this world :)
"One who only ever sits around and thinks only has anything to think about but thought itself" Dewayne's thought a lot, done a lot, he's listened a lot, and he's read a lot.
I am also a woman who just turned another year older yesterday. Thank you for your wisdom and provision. I needed to hear this today. Thank you so much for your awesome words of wisdom. 😊
Lady here- who often appreciates your wisdom, hearing about your experiences. I've always loved being outdoors, walking, being uncomfortable sometimes. Feel so much better when taking on challenges. Don't care to recall the number of times others have reminded me I am older when enjoying my choices, like I'm doing something wrong. I continue on my way...
I’m 20, I really needed this. Ever since I dropped out of college in May, my life has been on pause, I am in a complete rut. I’ve never felt like such a failure I think? But not to myself even, to my parents, which makes the burden x2. I’ve been working these past few weeks to get out of it, but Dewayne I sure will take this as a sign, whether from the man above or just a funny life thing. I needed this exact message, at this exact time and it couldn’t have been put more perfect. Thank you Dewayne, I’m not sure how many lives you’re changing, but you sure are changing mine. That night is going to have to do a whole lot more, because I do not intend on going in gently 🙏👍.
19 and I feel the same. for many years thought I would end my own life before i graduated high school and now I am trying to build a future that I will love. beyond scary but I believe in us
As someone who did graduate and is still struggling to find a job, keep your head up. It is a tough time out here in the world. Honestly the degree works well if you hit the ground running with it, and that's something I didn't understand. I don't think it would have made a difference in my life at all if I didn't graduate. The real value is learning persistence and drive. Good luck out there friends. "Tough times don't last, only tough folks do" -BJ Barham
48 year old man here. Life is tough. Take it from me. I've been through many a hard time and sometimes still fight depression but if you just keep moving, learning new things, like he said, do things that scare you some, life will get better and you will have stories to tell when you are old.
Try writing yourself a letter explaining to yourself why you dropped out of college? Was it out of frustration, lack of money, poor grades or for something purposeful? Write about your dreams and how you see yourself living your life. I think that might give you more resolve for what comes next. Many young people struggle with how to find their place in life. Don't beat yourself up. You'll find your way.
I enjoy listening to you Dwayne am 44 years old and live in Yorkshire in Northern England 🏴. Your words and thoughts have been a source of inspiration to me to get back out into the Dales and Country side walking and camping ⛺️. It repairs my soul and brings me peace. I struggle a bit with the modern day and the restrictions of what we can say do. Thank you for your time and effort sir it’s appreciated even all these miles away in the UK 🇬🇧
I love this so much. I am a female and everything you are saying is just as relevant to women, and aging. As much as people would have you feel differently, rage against the dying of the light. Ageism is alive and well and it's easy to be convinced that maybe it's time to let go. However, the sense of aliveness is brought about by adventure and pushing the comfort limits. I have had to push through a major back surgery, tailbone and shoulder surgery. I have a horse and he is the light of my life.
I hear you, but the term ageism is ridiculous. Fact of the matter is just that with age comes certain downsides. It might be unfortunate and frustrating but it is a totally different thing than racism or sexism
I have been driving a concrete truck for 37 years now, 😮I will be 69 years young in July 2024. I'm still keeping going. Because I don't wanna let the old man in, love your video Dwayne.
I have come to realize there should be a balance between doing and “being”. My first 55 years were all about doing and driving myself chasing all the things our society says to chase because that’s what success was supposed to mean. When you are empty you are supposed to chase and catch all these things to fill the hole. Right? I have come to a weariness in the futile chase and have learned to sit still and just “be”. Once a person can just be, and be happy being still, and at peace in his skin, and has let go of failures and regrets and is happy and full and ok then it’s good to start doing from this place of satisfaction. And not to ever get in the habit again of chasing and pushing, but move forward from the peaceful place that comes from being and contemplation. An age old Art that is all but forgotten. I like your videos and the balance I see in your being and doing. Thank you
Great advice as usual. At 53 and a year after a serious illness, i rented my house and sold most of my possessions and thruhiked the Appalacian Trail. At 55 i backpacked and bikepacked from the Atlantic to the Pacific over six months. At 57 i sold my home, cashed in my retirement and bought a used truck and camper and hit the road. Now at 63 i continue to live the life of a nomad...and i love it! 😊
If there's one thing I've maintained in my life it's this, I live for adventure, I might be single the vast majority of the time and have a stable job, but adventure is the one thing that keeps my gears well oiled until I need another adventure. Whether it's kayaking out on the open ocean or almost being robbed and murdered in Mexico by gangsters, I fear the depth of the ocean and the darkside, and both are things that I explore in moderation, and from it comes transformation, light, and life.
Congratulations on your book deal, Dewayne. I'm sure you'll learn a great deal during the writing and publishing processes, furthering the lessons which you can teach to the next generations of folks like us, who watch your content (often to fit a void which society at large is not fulfilling). Cheers from VA!
There's something to be said about the difference between fear that you've chosen versus fear that is thrust upon you. Fear that you didn't ask for can shake you bad. However, I do know that if you've experienced fear of your choice, and then have fear thrust upon you, it's familiar. It doesn't take you by surprise because you know what the next steps are. That's made a huge difference in my life.
As an italian follower of yours who live by espresso made with the Moka (as you did in this video) I can assure that you did it in the right way. To obtain the best results, remove the moka from the heat as soon as the coffee begins to rise, otherwise you risk burning it
Actually, he used regular grind instead of espresso grind, which is far from ideal. And he didn’t put enough coffee in the first place. I would even go farther and tamp the grounds just a bit to close off any big pockets of air. So no, he didn’t do it “right.” That said, if he’s been doing it like that for years and he likes it, then that’s all that matters.
@@americanrelicswhat does right even mean though? I was a coffee snob for years and one day, I just let it all go. I went back to just tried and true. Roasted and ground to order small batch coffee in a French press 😂
@@MrFloat777 The OP said that as an Italian, they observed that he's making it the right way (referring to the traditional way of making espresso in a moka pot), so I just proceeded to add that he got a couple of things wrong following that traditional method of brewing coffee. That said, I totally agree with you. At the end of the day, Dewayne is the one drinking it, and like I said in my previous post, if he likes it that way, that's all that matters. I posted that extra info to inform people about the "right," aka traditional way, of making espresso. Some folks may be misinformed by thinking that's the way it's done based off of the OP's comment. Also, small batch coffee on a french press? C'mon, you know you're still a coffee snob lmao.
Thank you. I'm 48. I was in the army. I've been an outdoorsman since I was a cub scout. I am a big jeep trail riding fan. I sold my jeep to buy my little farm in Montana. That was 5 years ago. I've yet to go camping. I've had a couple day hikes. But lately I've just kicked my rucksack to the corner and thought about just throwing it in the barn. Nope. I'll camp in my back field if have to. Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. I tip my hat to you sir.
I'm 51 here in Conwall England and these are wise words indeed, despite having a desk job I'm still surfing and riding by mountain bike on and off road as much as I can even if it's only a few times a month. I never was outstanding at either so it doesn't matter, just keep doing it guys!
Thank you Dwayne! Because of you (this video maybe) my husband was inspired to take me on a much needed vacation to the Colorado mountains in August. Part of it, we tent camped 4 nights in the cold. No water or electricity. He has chronic health issues and pain, had to retire early, but he was determined to do this. We both just turned 61. I am also scared of heights, and had a panic attack when we drove up to the Continental Divide. It was worth it, because it was so amazing!!! We live in Texas, I never experienced anything like it. We are planning another trip next year, Lord willing.
What a great philosopher! My only advice for you is make sure you never run out of horses. I'm almost 77, in Australia. I bred and rode my own, and sold to top the annual local auction every year with a 4 yo, I rode only one a year, and had 3 "keepers". I quit breeding because I saw some abuse, over the years. Left with 2 good mares, I packed away after my mother died, right across my state, alone. I ran into drovers and did some of that. Then landed outback. The mares eventually died, and I looked around to find them irreplaceable, financially prohibitive. I had come out of my 1976 saddle only twice, (many more barebacked falls) but had 2 more falls off horses I should not have been on, no harm done. Now my muscle tone is gone, and while I may ride again, my sticking muscles have forgotten, so be only a good horse. I am camped out in someone's back paddock right now, running on solar, good permanent camp, been here almost 3 yrs, and my doc says I am the best she's seen for my age. I do miss the horses.
@@washburnbilly well, I meant it at DeWayne. He's so handsome, yet married. So, I meant a blood brother (in jest) but I'd trust a fellow believer in his life as well. But really it was meant for a laugh.
People who spend a lot of time self reflecting and processing events are usually highly intelligent and wise individuals. I am the same way, thats one reason i enjoy your content so much.
As a 33 year old woman struggling to embrace the unknown, moving countries every year and feeling a lack of stability in the world, this message really spoke to me. The warm, kind, and wise vibes are so strong. Thank you 🙏
I definitely understand that being able to move around is a privilege, don't get me wrong. But it's more like having to move to chase jobs because of an increasingly unstable economy. It's out of my hands and I've left family and friends multiple times now. If you're from the US, think of it as having to move to different states all the time. It's not great :/ @@michaelmccarty2292
A book deal is amazing! I wrote my first novel and I've been shopping agents for three years and still no luck. You have Penguin contacting YOU...before a book is even written? That shows just how amazing you are. Congratulations.
Keep focusing on building your online presence- social media followings, a personal website, etc. Publishers generally look for what is going to turn a good profit. More followers=More potential for book sales. You can get more local followers by getting involved in your community. Volunteering at schools or libraries to read to children could be a good option, or there may be writer's clubs near your area. See what ideas other writers suggest for you. Community is key. Hope this helps!
I grew up on canoe portaging trips and camping in the woods. Very fortunate to have had that kind of upbringing. But what scares me most, and why this video struck a chord, is that at 34 years old, I can already feel myself leaning into comfort. Worrying about accumulating money, reducing friction, and taking the easy road. As you said, the "file" of life is meant to be used to its full extent. I better get to planning my next adventure so that my family can build new memories, and so my daughter can remember her dad as someone not afraid to walk into the unknown. Thanks as always, Dewayne.
The lessons we learn from Dewight always seem to be put into perspective in our own lives, he makes it easy to read between the lines. He's the uncle we all need when life weighs heavy and we need that person to level us out. Always enjoy listening, thank you.
In the 26 minutes that I've made it through this video, I have learned of the passing of 2 different good acquaintances; one from my childhood and one from my more recent life in the retriever world. Get out there and make memories my friends; we weren't just meant to work and die.
As a 64 year old man who has traveled the world and currently is working and living in the Middle East, I can appreciate your words of wisdom. My body is sore each morning and it sometimes takes me a while to get going. I have abused my body over the years. I enjoy sitting with my dogs by the campfire after hiking and camping here in the desert. Some cool weather and a river would be idyllic. It is what it is and we keep going. Can't wait for your book. I certainly would enjoy sitting by a fire with a coffee having a chat with you. All the best to you, sir.
Once again a great video and timely for me. In my late sixties and fighting that old man tooth and nail. Riding my horses green and broke on the mountain and desert. Hunting , fishing, and spending as much time chasing adventure as I can. Hope you and your family have a happy thanksgiving, sir.
At 69, I still hunt alone in the mountains of the West. I live for those days in the Gods Country. I have always looked at life as an adventure, University, starting a Practice and Work…. Turn every trip into an adventure, even a trip as simple as to the grocery store……. Great advice to people……
Couldn’t agree more. Used to think people who rode motorcycles were insane. Then I bought my first Harley at 53 and felt so live for the first time in years. Now I’m not wreckless at all but I do love the risk and freedom it brings me. There is nothing else in this world that relaxes me like a long ride. I can feel the stress leaving me. Thank you Dwayne I love your work.
Just turned 30 this year, always battled with feeling like I will have a early end in this life, I understand it's temporary living but I still battled with that since 8 years old, I'm thankful to be getting pass that n being on the path 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💪🏾
Just turned 30 a couple months ago. I know how you feel and can probably relate to some of what you've been through. Seek The Lord Jesus Christ and a real relationship with Him will fill all the voids that we need. I know from real life experience. Much love to you
@TayRich93 i will be 30 in 5 yrs and im scared...because I feel like i didnt even live my 20s...fully yet anyway...always having to deal with controlling anxiety and a crap father who caused more drama and stress than gave love and respect and knowledge and empathy...like nothing he barely left my family and i like when i was 23..feels like im barely 20 ...like i was barely 20 yesterday...cant believe im gonna be 26 this year
I'm still blessed I stumbled upon your channel a year or so ago. You're a good man. About a 4 months ago I moved out of my folks house to escape the abuse and I was thrown into the fire. Without a plan on what was going to happen. I knew what I had to do was survive and sometimes I had to numb myself and stay steady and let God guide me. In the beginning in what upsetting. But I still worked and that kept my head up. I spent two months in a hotel and finding a place was a nightmare. Long story short. I found a modest small house. I'm all by myself which is what I wanted. I remember lighting my fire place for the first time. Feeling the warmth. What I'm getting at it. The journey was treacherous but it was a adventure and the adventure continues. You're absolutely right. I was sedentary for awhile but my life turned around and it's time to live. Till next sir
Congrats on a successful journey into the unknown! How did you manage to overcome the numbness? That is the only way I can cope. I've had it in me to go travel on my own for 4 months on another continent, but that was easy. Counter-dependence is easy because you're sort of running away as a big F u, and when numb it's all just whatever. The numbness is easy, it's unpacking it and living day to day is hard. Sorry if this is too presumptuous, but that's what's holding me back. Never returning from the numbness.
I’m 61 and I’m exactly what you’re describing and all I can say is thank you my health is been going down since I started sitting in my chair and you may have changed my life so thank you again.
From one old Cowboy to another, you are exactly right. Im 52 and I don't want to slow down. Im still training horses. Maybe not the kind that i used to break where I had to tie a hind foot up just to get a saddle on them but im still at it. Im still running a big trapline where I harvest a lot of furbearers and still raising cattle. I don't want to quit. I believe that you have to test your self all the time! Best wishes and congratulations on your book!
I agree with you, Duane. I’m 79 and will hopefully still be at it as long as the Good Lord gives me the capability. I left my fear in Vietnam 50 years ago. And, you are so very fortunate that you have your sons to have adventure with. Enjoy every minute with them, as anything can happen. As I so well know after losing two of my three.
Welcome home, Sir. Deep sympathy for the loss of your boys. I have no words that could amount to consolation... Just wanted to say that this humble American is proud that you have carried on. Stay safe, Sir.
as a 28-year-old I needed to hear this message, I have been lacking adventure for too long now. Covid put me in turmoil I have just put my head down and got back to work. I need to pack out in the wilderness and regain that adventure.
This man is truly something. This advice on the last part of the video is just as profound as his other more spiritual and embellish lessons from the other videos. You are one step away from being free from all your shadows if you just try 1 bit a time, you dont need to sell everything and go to india just start small but do start. Get busy living or get busy dying
Mate, I am truly thankful to have your videos on feed, i watch them daily, i wished i had seen your videos years ago when i was battling depression, listening to your videos, and reflecting on them is refreshing perspective from the pressure thats been put on my back from all my family, thanks again for all of these, ill be here watching and hoping for more, thank you. ❤❤
Thank you for this! I suffered a severe Traumatic Brain Injury 2.5 years ago and now have PTSD and all kinds of other mental issues and body aches that no 35 year old should have. Also due to my 20 years of playing baseball or the work I’ve done and being a firefighter. This gives me more drive to keep going everyday now!
as a 50 year old man i enjoy congregating with yall by the electronic campfire listening to your stories, thinking about mine. i used to live out in the northcoast forests as a boy
You don’t get the time you’ve been given back. Live it! I’m 64, female and still riding still having adventures. I pray I’ve got another 20 years of riding left maybe more. My 80 year old neighbor hunts elk with his son every year packing horses into the backcountry. He’s awesome.😊
Very excited for a book from you! You are such an inspiration and guide to young men like myself who were lost in life. I'm so glad to have been here to watch your channel grow.
I know my comment is a needle in a haystack of people saying how much this resonates, but oh man did this resonate. In the last month and a half I've moved cross country, and then two weeks later my dad passed away. I have a hard time explaining how I feel but I just want to say thank you for what you do. I'm 28 and have been feeling so lost and scared, but this video has given me the spirit and motivation to keep going. Thank you 💖
Many years ago my Father committed suicide the day before Thanksgiving. I can not do justice to the emotional trauma it did to me. But I can honestly say it does get Better. And the positive memories and impacts of His influence. Constantly come back to me. And I can focus on the Good parts. That for me is how I Honor Him. Clearly You loved Him.and I assume that He made a Big impact on you. Just by posting. You have Honored Him.and I'm sure he would be proud.
@mikechampion1614 thank you so so much for your reply. i know he would want me to keep going and not be sad, but it feels impossible to move on. today has been really hard for me and i can only imagine how difficult it is for you. i wish you well and i hope you are able to have a bit of peace today 💜
60 yo now n mostly paralyzed. Glad your thoughts occupied my mind happily. Wish M.S. hadnt killed my sense of adventure. 😢 You're a good Ole soul. I appreciate your thoughts. Ty❤❤
Dwayne hello from the UK, Like most you've probably done things you regret I damn sure know I have, But let me tell you there is a special place in heaven waiting for you one day. The wisdom and knowledge you convey in you're videos is priceless. Thank you for continuing to upload. And take care buddy.
Love this channel and Dwayne’s message. Sometimes the simple wisdom and straightforward delivery make me tear up. I’m grateful men have you, Dwayne, and I enjoy “listening in” ☺️. We all deserve our own spaces - there’s absolutely no need to apologize! Congrats on the book deal 🥳, as well! Will purchase several for my nephews (and for ME! 😂) Bravo!
Congratulations on the book! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've been pondering very similar things, I'm only 32 but i had a nasty car accident that made me stop living. I've started again and it's good to be back but the fear has been a lot more to overcome lately, i really appreciate how you put all this, that it's part of the process and it's what Adventure really is. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and i can't wait to read your book at some point in the future.
I’m 54, soon to be 55. I “retired” from the Marines 8 years ago. Loved the work and had many many adventures in far off lands while in the Corps, and with my family while on “leave.” I have had 4 jobs since retiring, one that resulted in us renting an apartment in Seattle, while maintaining our primary place in Virginia. Had the opportunity to get back into mountain biking; and to spend weekends in the NW forests and islands. Worked with smart young people who kept me doing exciting, innovative things. Today, I’m a C-Suite executive, who rides his mountain bike, hard, as often as possible. I drive the heck out of my little sports car with the top down, often. I feel most alive when I am riding at full speed and on the edge of making the next switchback on the MTB trail and disaster! Thanks be to God, I’m still adventurous and have maintained my sense of humor
My husband will be turning 60 next summer and I'll be 57. I keep telling him we are rounding third.....This was a great message. Thank you. May God continue to bless you guys.
Thanks for the words of wisdom. I have reached that time in life where I need the tent with a wood stove. I still have the sense of adventure and wonder to keep me chugging down the road but my knees are betraying me these days and I can only guess at what my future holds for me. It has been several years since I rode a horse and I was in so much pain that I had to stop after only 20 minutes. I still want to get back up on a horse before my sister sells her ranch. There is some adventure still in me and I'm going to hang onto it as long as I can......
Congratulations on the book contract! Well deserved in and of itself. Your wisdom and generosity of spirit in sharing that knowledge will be a splendid addition to this world. My brothers and I use to go camping, but I'd be scared to do it alone as a single lady in her 50s. God Bless.
I am glad to hear your wisdom to keep this 41 years young man in the Desert going through a desert moment of my life. Thank you for your wisdom and service to those who are willing to listen from you and put it to application. I don't usually purchase books, but it would be an honor to have an older and wiser friend's book next to me like conversing with you in person, can't wait, Dewayne. Stay humble and kind, you are a treasure in this generation. Stay blessed and prayers to you and yours from the Nevada Desert!
What a great message Dwayne. Especially needed in these trying times. I myself refuse to ‘let the old man in’. I am close to 64 and besides having my beautiful bride of 42 years, my other two life-long passions in life are long distance, cross country motorcycle trips and high mountain fly-fishing. I do these things solo. Mostly for mental health reasons.
I won't let the old man in, Dewayne. Thank you so much for that reminder, and as always, sharing your wisdom and experience. BIG congrats on your book deal!
I'm 76 years old and live in a log home in Arkansas. I still mow 6 acres, cut and trim trees, build decks and remodel bathrooms and kitchens. I also build custom wood doors as well. The only thing I won't do now that I used to do is climb on a roof. Most people are amazed when they meet me. They think I'm in my early to mid 60's. When I tell them I'm 76 they almost always say "I hope I look that good when I'm that age". I've lived a healthy lifestyle and that's the reason I'm in good shape. I'm not going "softly, into the night". That's for sure! I'll keep busy as long as I can!
I'm in my early 30s but feel as if I'm an elderly person since I rarely leave my home unless I have to. This video was definitely what I needed to hold a fire to my feet and get me moving. Thank you for the video Sir!
Good stuff! Looking forward to the book. My dad just turned 71 and still goes hunting/packing with my 3 boys and I. My grandpa went with my dad and I until he was 82! I'm young enough to know I can, old enough to know I shouldn't, and stubborn enough to do it anyway - Old Cowboy Proverb
After 30 years or so of living a comfortable sedentary life, I started running and it cured the pain I was feeling of going quietly into the night. Sometimes that old man tries to creep back in. People like you help inspire me not to go gently anymore. I’m looking forward to purchasing and reading your book when it comes out.

18 here, i needed to hear his wisdom
Truly beautiful , that's the fire I love to see in people that never does! I hope you have a trip to remember !😁❤️ God is with you God bless !

Feels good.

This man is one of those people worth listening to.

Before my father passed away, he said son, at the end of your life, all you'll have is memories. . make good ones !
This is so inspiring and heart-warming to hear, that's awesome and the kind of energy I look toward keeping as well. Thank you for sharing! 😄

Good luck!

Much love to you
@wild_olive_shoot fasho same to u as well, being on the path ain easy but it's worth it fasho 😌🙏🏾🙏🏾🔥
30 year old here as well. I can relate, but stay strong brother!
@@brendonrichards9118 💪🏾💪🏾🙏🏾 same to u
Congratulations 🎈
Thank you for your service, sir
Welcome home, Sir.
Deep sympathy for the loss of your boys. I have no words that could amount to consolation... Just wanted to say that this humble American is proud that you have carried on.
Stay safe, Sir.
God Bless you sir. You influence thousands of young men for the better
I'm 25 watching this & it's so soothing listening to you speak softly with your words of wisdom with such a kind tone.
Congrats on the book sir
Thank you Dwayne. It was very true and inspiring.
" i used to do that why did i quit?" Was exactly what i felt , and I'm 37.
as a 28-year-old I needed to hear this message, I have been lacking adventure for too long now. Covid put me in turmoil I have just put my head down and got back to work.
I need to pack out in the wilderness and regain that adventure.
Thank you Dewayne. Hung on to every word and the message rang clear as diamonds. Thank you for the wake up call.
I am learning what it is to smoke a pipe! This is fascinating to me. Don't ever stop teaching ever.
Unpredictability,fear and discomfort.Well said.Thank you 🤠👍
This man is truly something.
This advice on the last part of the video is just as profound as his other more spiritual and embellish lessons from the other videos.
You are one step away from being free from all your shadows if you just try 1 bit a time, you dont need to sell everything and go to india just start small but do start.
Get busy living or get busy dying
Yeah he’s making sense
Amen, brother. I could write a book, but i like my freedom too much. Lol. Great video 100% real truth. God bless.
I’m 33 and I been van camping for 3 years and the old man wanted to come in but this video right here is🔥🔥🔥 life is an adventure
60 yo now n mostly paralyzed. Glad your thoughts occupied my mind happily. Wish M.S. hadnt killed my sense of adventure. 😢 You're a good Ole soul. I appreciate your thoughts. Ty❤❤
Dwayne hello from the UK,
Like most you've probably done things you regret I damn sure know I have, But let me tell you there is a special place in heaven waiting for you one day.
The wisdom and knowledge you convey in you're videos is priceless.
Thank you for continuing to upload.
And take care buddy.
Totally agree!!
I love watching this man after school.
😂) Bravo!
I love this man. Stumbled onto him and have shared his UA-cam channel with many. God bless him and his family.
This is powerful. Thank you.
Hmmmm
Hmmmmm
I won't let the old man in, Dewayne. Thank you so much for that reminder, and as always, sharing your wisdom and experience. BIG congrats on your book deal!
You're an excellent speaker, sir. Very motivational, thank you!
So glad I came across your channel! Your wisdom applies to men and women alike!
Good stuff! Looking forward to the book.
My dad just turned 71 and still goes hunting/packing with my 3 boys and I. My grandpa went with my dad and I until he was 82!
I'm young enough to know I can,
old enough to know I shouldn't,
and stubborn enough to do it anyway
- Old Cowboy Proverb
After 30 years or so of living a comfortable sedentary life, I started running and it cured the pain I was feeling of going quietly into the night. Sometimes that old man tries to creep back in. People like you help inspire me not to go gently anymore. I’m looking forward to purchasing and reading your book when it comes out.
At 76 yrs of age, still starting colts & training cutters, I'm asked way? It's called life, live it your own way.
Thank you for the videos! I learn a lot from them. Greetings from Brazil!
Que bom ver um brasileiro aqui tbm 🇧🇷
@@RibsBjj Muito obrigado!
