Cleaning the Hedgehog's C&C Cage

- In this video I show you how I clean my hedgehog's C&C cage. During the weekdays I spot clean the cage daily and on weekends I do the cage cleaning that I show you in the video. In this video I also show you how I clean her wheel.

Great video! Teazel is just so cute! You can find that economy bedding for a great price at many office supplies stores in the mailing section. They use the exact same stuff for shipping!

She has the cutest face! Is her cage lined with linoleum, like for bathroom floors? That is a creative idea, plus just as easy to clean as coroplast I would think. Her mountain of bedding for her sleeping area looks so comfy too.
I love this video! Very informative! With a C&C cage for hedgehogs, do the walls have to be as high as yours? Like the actual linoleum part or can they be a bit shorter like for guinea pigs?

This is one reason I switched to fleece, it is so much easier to switch out and clean. I do add some bedding in her igloo/sleeping corner.

For future cage cleaning tips you a dust pan like the thing u use when u sweep haha to scoop out the bedding it helps alot
Aww I love your hedgehog!!! I was wondering like a guniea pig or rat can you use fleece?? and do you go through those two bags everytime you redo the bedding???

fleece bedding is the best to use, and its cheaper. You can buy a huge amount on sale at the fabric store and cut it to fit in the bottom of your cage. Wood shavings aren't good for their respiratory systems, and it can get stuck in their private parts.

I just watch your videos because they're fun. I don't plan on owning pets at this time. I did get kind of curious when I heard of the 50/50 water vinegar cleaning solution. Do you use this same solution in the kitchen? What kind bleach solution do you use?

•PURPLE UNICORN• it's a c&c cage (cubes & coroplast/corex) it's around 43 inches x 29 inches, you build it by connecting them with connectors and zip ties and then cut up the coroplast and put in there

oruguita851 The best option is to use the potty trays under the wheel. We personally have a small cake pan (disposable aluminum one for cookies) and have paper towels underneath and change it everyday. Some people use the puppy pads, and different types of "litter". As far as cage poops and pees, all of ours are centered into the potty tray :)
I used a glass jar and it worked very well my mice also like glass jars as a litter box for some reason

Can you use fleece instead of bedding or do they prefer bedding to dig in?
It's a matter of preference I believe. Fleece is more cost effective in the sense that you can buy a few pieces and be good, but bedding seems to be easier to spot clean and give a hedgehog a simple hiding place. Whatever is convenient for you, really, I'd assume.
This is a great video! Do you find that Teazel's feet and tummy get extremely dirty daily from running on her wheel? I clean Albie's wheel daily and spot clean, but I have to give him a gentle stomach and foot bath! :) If I didn't, he would be beyond disgraceful, haha!! :)
Has your hedgehog ever escaped out if the c&c cage with out lid? I just made one but I am debating putting a lid on it...

Try higher sides made of the coroplast. They don't chew so the walls will last a long time.

I have a question do you have to get your hedgehog a bath is there a certain kind of like sand that I could put in like a small container so they could roll around in it and they could be clean or do we have to give it a bath

shes either dead or stopped posting. So she wont awnser. I know you wanted her, but heres my awnser anyway: They dont need full on baths, just a foot bath because they poop on their wheel while they run. They pretty much get poop on their feet. I dont think sand can help that.

It is homemade by the company that sells them, so sort of (x It's a Carolina Storm Bucket Wheel. There is also a similar wheel sold by VolcanoView on etsy.

+Jimmy Nioutron acually its not because hedgehogs natral habitat is not fleece, that doesnt mean that you cant use it, its just best to try to have the most natral habitat for your hedge hog
+Jimmy Nioutron Well I personally think it depends which you prefer. Everything has its pros and cons, fleece has to be changed daily but you can buy a couple of them and just reuse them. Bedding allows your hedgehog to burrow giving it a more natural environment, but you can't reuse bedding meaning that you have to buy more.
no its not. May be easier to clean for those lazy people out there, but hedgehogs are so much happier in bedding. They can burrow, carry the pieces around, and it smells less. Plus its just more natural for your hedgie

I don't know about hedgehogs but I own two Guinea pigs and they r VERY messy!

I think Guinea pigs are more messy. They run a lot and jump which causes poop and bedding to fly everywhere and even out if the cage

course it should be big. 2x3 is best. 2 in widith, 3 in length. Like she has it.

silent wheels are bad for hedgehogs. Plus, carolina storm bucket wheels are even more silent and MUCH easier to clean. They are cheap too.
