i just bought a c&c cage! Im so ready to get it in the mail. I hope my new hedgie will appreciate it since he was living in a plastic tub his whole life (sad right?) I hate how little space people give their pets to live in.
I got a hedgehog last week and I am in love! Your channel has really helped :-) I'm so happy that he is super sweet and we've been bonding really well. And oh man does he love running on his wheel!
Our hedgehog used to have bottles instead of bowls. He liked his bottle and after I gave him a chance to used bowls he still seemed to like his bottle much much more. But then after a long time for keeping the bowls in (just in case) he actually started using them and never used the bottle again. He also used to put his paws on his food bowl, and the first time he used the bowl he tipped it over. After that he never did it again. Bowls can be much more comfortable for hedgehogs to use, especially as they are more natural and less straining for their neck. If you want to go more in-depth in this or just learn countless other reasons bowls can be beneficial reference “ Victoria Rachel” (that’s the channel name) Anyway watch her video “Bowls vs. Bottles”
FYI some hamsters actually need more space then a hedgehog because they explore....so a biggest hamster cage should be fine. Hedgehogs like small spaces or their caged to be filled so they can feel safe
This is a great video. The only thing is hedgehogs don’t like big spaces to run around, it makes them uncomfortable. If you want a big cage for them you just need to fill it with lots of things. That might be something to research. 💜
My Hedgehog Grum must suck at being a hedgehog! lol He hates bugs, Ive tried every kind, he wont eat them. He also really doesn't like shavings, We have a blanket for his bed, and he is litter trained. He's pretty cute! He didn't like our igloo but I put a blanket over it to make it darker and he loves it much much more!
You really shouldn’t feed Spike’s Delite to Pygmy Hedgehogs. It’s intended for Wild Hedgehogs. It’s a British brand and here in England there are a LOT of wild European Hedgehogs so people like to feed them when they come in their garden, that’s what it’s meant for. It is not nutritionally complete for Pygmy Hedgehogs, especially those in captivity. If I were you I would feed a high quality dry cat food (such as Wellness or James Wellbeloved). It’s much more suitable for African Pygmy Hedgehogs.
Thanks! This really helps ! Me and my family are planning on getting a hedgie from a local breeder we saw this and bought all the things yesterday! Thank you so much!
For some reason SnowdropHedgie's voice sounds like HoppingHammy.....hmmm...... Anyway, thank you for the video! I'm getting a hedgehog soon, so this was very useful! 😃
I have a little African pygmy hedgehog, who is the LOVE of my LIFE!!! She did not take to cages, or the typical hedgie foods, or the hedgie toys. Now, she OWNS my bathroom. She runs around all night (I can hear her as I'm sleeping). I think that, no matter what, let them be themselves. That means WILD. Do not give them too many baths. Do not force them to socialize. Leave them alone as much as possible. DO NOT CAGE THEM! Just enjoy them as the beautiful creatures they are.
thank you because of you i am so happy because me and fraternal sister are going to get one on our 12th or 11th birthday again thank you you bare truly my hero and best friend.
According to our exotic vet, the best thing to feed hedgies is Mazuri Insectivore Diet along with some insects such as mealworms. A little bit of fresh raspberry, blueberry, or blackberry is also good.
Hi! I'm thinking about getting a hedgehog. I have a few questions, if you don't mind answering them. Are pine pellets (not shavings) okay to use as a bedding? How should you clean your hedgehog's cage? Do you clean out and replace all of the bedding? How can you tell if your hedgehog is getting a bit too cold or too hot? In case you don't have a thermometer handy, how do you tell if they're starting to get uncomfortable? Thanks for your time!
And the website shows it well. :) Sorry but can I ask one more question? When I get the little guy he will be very well socialised because he will be from a private breeder, but if he is nervous, should I just give him lots of places to sleep and softly talk to him.. Maybe leave it a couple of days before trying to pick him up? Thank you!!
Thank you for taking your time to make this video. I am going to get a Hedgie and I need to know about what I need to take proper care so thanks again! :)
August 22nd :) 22 is my new lucky number :D I cant wait! Also im a little excited about getting the stuff and im going to get the supplies tomorrow would it matter if I put it in or would it get dirtier and get my hedgie sick when I get her?
I have two questions for If I get the cage that can be turned into different shapes and is open on the top: 1- can a hedgehog climb out of the cadge 2- What do you have at the bottom of the cage under everything so that the bedding/shavings don't get everywhere and the ground doesn't get dirty.
Thank you so much!! That's perfect, I will put it under the wheel and gradually try and train the little guy... He will only be 8 weeks so I understand he may have some difficulty at the beginning but that is fine! I am over the moon, I cannot wait! Thanks!
I may be getting a hedgie soon, and I was wondering if the Midwest cage would be suitable for her? It is larger than normal pet store cages and I think it would be a good cage.
I read on hedgehog central that many hedgehog owners prefer fleece liners for bedding. What is your opinion on fleece for bedding ? I might go with fleece do to the simplicity of cleaning it and I do not have to constantly buy shavings. But I suppose you like shaving because it allows the hedgehog to tunnel, correct?
Yup Thanks! I just love this type of cage havent seen it around (ready made) but I am sure I would be able to build it since I can find all the materials seperately. I do not live in the US and these in EU are not so popular xD! I just love that you can change the shape of it so the hedgie doesnt get bored or you can also make it bigger or whatever!
I have a couple of questions. First, if its typo cold for them can you get them a heat lamp or a heat pad? Second, I've heard of people feeding them cat food is that ok? Third, does petco carry any hedgehog thing or thing you could use?
This is a great video! I would really like a hedgie random trying to persuade my parents ;) I know where to get most of the things I will need, but because I'm in the UK I can't get the eco bedding or the boxo bedding which means I'm stuck with carefresh... which one did you use the natural, ultra, colour or confetti? also do you know a good replacement for eco bedding that might be available in the UK? don't worry if you don't but thanks in advance :)
if you do get a hedgehog and use bedding, just to let y'all know they can include mites, which could possibly get it killed if you do not get it treated very soon. My old hedgie got mites with the care fresh.
I have seen many of your hedgehog videos and they help A LOT i am getting a hedgehog for my birthdsy eith is ssturdsy and yiunhalped mr s [o much ive seen all yiur hadgehog videos and tht give good info keepnup the good work and dont stip putying uo videos
I would appreciate it loads of you could answer a quick question? Thanks! I'm getting a hedgehog and it will be an 8 week old baby. I am buying a complete package from the breeder including cage and everything. When I first get the cage (it's a lovely big, flat rabbit cage) do I put th blanket bedding down and then the litter material down over it in one corner? What do I do if th hedgehog doesn't use that area as a toilet.. D I move the soiled litter to teach him? Thanks
I have a question about the wheel. Do u have to keep the wheel in the enclosure all the time because I read that u should just have it out during playtime
Would it be possible to cut down on the dustiness of some of the beddings (like Care Fresh or Aspen shavings) by sifting them in a flour sifter before they go into the cage?
Hello I love your idea of your cage but I have a question. Is there a possibility for the hedgehog to escape? Since the cage is open on the top and all. I am currently researching and it is kinda hard cause everyone says his own thingXD Thanks in advance!
I love to watch hedgies! I shortly become a hedgehog fan. They are so damn cute. ;) For myself it is´nt possible to handle any kind of pets because my disability. Is it okay to be feeding him cilantro? *Baby hedgehogs must never be fed plant matter, as their digestive tract lacks the cecum necessary to digest it. In addition, they cannot digestive nuts, seeds, raw meat, onion, tomatoes, bread, or honey.*
My mom says she cannot have to the house to 75-85 degrees so is it possible a large lamp is good to have near the cage like a lizard would? Please reply back.
Spikes Delight is the best hedgehog food out there but good quality kitten food is even healthier and easier to find. That's just my opinion though, it looks like your hedgie is being cared for really well =)
Will they ever confuse the bedding on the bottom with food? I am thinking about getting a hedgehog and I just want to hear about any experiences anyone has had.
I have three questions. 1. So I really want a hedgehog but once every year I go on vacation for one week and the another one for two days. Is it bad to leave them alone? My dad would probably play with it a little while we do. 2. Will they bite? If so does it hurt? 3. How big should their cage be (in inches or feet)? Please reply because I really want one and I don't know if the vacation thing is bad.
1. As long as someone is there to feed the hedgehog and clean the wheel, it will be fine. It may be grumpy when you come home because it wasn't handled, but it will be okay. Hedgehogs do well on their own. 2. "Anything with teeth can bite," is the general response to this question I see. However, hedgehogs are not prone to it. If a hedgehog bites you, it is usually one of two reasons. One, it's in pain or very very pissed off. In this case, you're doing something wrong and you need to figure out why it's so upset. Two, it thinks you are food. I made the mistake of eating and then picking my hedgehog up right after. He smelled the food on my fingers and then proceeded to take a bite. It definitely hurts. It didn't break skin but I wouldn't want him to do it again (x (Which he hasn't.) 3. It really depends on your hedgehog. Mine needs a lot of space. A 2x3 grid C&C cage is his bare minimum. In fact, I think that's the best size for them. HOWEVER, some hedgehogs do just find in pet store guinea pig cages. A 2x3 cage like mine ends up about 27"x48", or like 3ftx4ft.
i just bought a c&c cage! Im so ready to get it in the mail. I hope my new hedgie will appreciate it since he was living in a plastic tub his whole life (sad right?) I hate how little space people give their pets to live in.
I think hedgehogs are really cute when they prick up and start making noises lol
Xemex I know righttttt
What if they hiss?

Awwww so cute! :3 thanks for this video! Helped a lot! ❤️
You are an inspiration to me I'm getting a hedgehog because of you and I'm so excited!!!

What a sweet little hog absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks! This was even more helpful than the animal planet 101 pets-hedgehogs!!! You just earned a thumbs up and a sub!
You should try using fleece, it's way easier for clean up. And better for them so they don't get respitory problems by breathing in the chips.
Or what im going to use is shredded paper from a paper shredder. if its a bad idea please tell me.
xXTaylorBeautyXx they like to dig so I prefer bedding but fleece is okay
good thing I watched this! I just got my hedgehog yesterday and we have pine bedding that the previous owner gave us!
Me too. She told us the pine shavings were fine. Glad to find this video
+Koalakylie RIP Mudgie the hedgehog
+Koalakylie that sucks
For the food pellets you can also use cat food high in protein and low in fat and it's very cheap
So much information here, it was really helpful and interesting. Could you tell us how long they live?
You really did a great job on this video, very clear and great advice!
I got a hedgehog yesterday!!
Django And Juniper congrats! I know that it is 4 months later, but I am getting one in 2 weeks! yay!
Django And Juniper where did u buy a hedgehog? ???
Django And Juniper that's not, FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xCholeyyy_ There are multiple websites and petstores that sell them. If you live in Texas I recommend Critters exotic pets, it's in Waco.
I live in germany....
Don't hedgehogs eat live insects in the wild?
Yup! Meal worms, wax worms and crickets should be given in moderation... More like a treat than a full diet :) x
Only one hedgehog has ever farted and that's how the universe was created
For some reason SnowdropHedgie's voice sounds like HoppingHammy.....hmmm...... Anyway, thank you for the video! I'm getting a hedgehog soon, so this was very useful! 😃
I thought that too!
Not really
Where a you getting it plz tell me

That's kind of hypocritical considering "wild" means outdoors and not bathroom. Your bathroom is technically just a larger cage than what she has.
thank you because of you i am so happy because me and fraternal sister are going to get one on our 12th or 11th birthday again thank you you bare truly my hero and best friend.
I'm getting my hedgehog tomorrow so this is a REALLY helpful!!

Thanks for the video! So helpful! I can't wait to get my own

Go to the vet
Atreyu Alcantar duh!
IShall EatYourBacon I think (I don't actually have one) just them behaving differently.
Okay, thank you!

You make great video's. In what room do you keep your hedgehog? :)
I hope you're still actief :)
I was wondering if I could use a big plastic tub for the cage
Also can a hedgehog eat cat food
Yes u can and do u know where to get one ??
You can get a plastic tub at Walmart or Target
So do u have a hedgehog yet
no
No. We get them in our garden sometimes and she goes craaaaazzyyyyyy!!!!!
Thanks so much;)I'm getting my hedgehog tomorrow and this was helpful
For the hideaway could you easily use a fleece or wool beanie as a cheaper alternative

Thnx I really want a hedgehog and this is a perfect resource
And also I learned that fruits and stuff are good for them? I looked at many websites and videos
I may be getting a hedgie soon, and I was wondering if the Midwest cage would be suitable for her? It is larger than normal pet store cages and I think it would be a good cage.

Can i have it in a blanket and carry it around like that outside?
If it's for a car ride probably or just to take it outside for running it should be fine!
it?? lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂
No because if you do that you will make him angry
Ender200 no it wouldn't
Very cute! Thanks for sharing
I want to name mine Crayola Rice. *creative rainbow dance*
I have a couple of questions. First, if its typo cold for them can you get them a heat lamp or a heat pad? Second, I've heard of people feeding them cat food is that ok? Third, does petco carry any hedgehog thing or thing you could use?

i love your hedgehogs nose it is so cute
I've seen people put them in bins. I have a 106 qt bin.. Is that big enough orr?
Yes. 105Qt is the minimum.
Tori Lynn woah you are here
Is it okay to take them outside for short periods of time?
can i put a lamp on top for the cage to keep my hedgehog warm?
if you do get a hedgehog and use bedding, just to let y'all know they can include mites, which could possibly get it killed if you do not get it treated very soon. My old hedgie got mites with the care fresh.

Hi, can you tell me where you got the plastic that you have around the cage? , please and thank you
Could you use a small blanket 4 bedding? Do they like pillows? What should a name mine when I get it Mr.Prickily ,Pocky, or Sonic maybe!
Maylie Morgag and Cyrah Lambert what did you name it
Sonic aproves this video xD Also thanks for the teaching :33
Can you please post a link of where you can get the beddings and the brand please?
Ahhhh! Teazel is such a cute name!
I have a question about the wheel. Do u have to keep the wheel in the enclosure all the time because I read that u should just have it out during playtime
yes you can use a plastic tub and you can use a blanket for bedding. And yes you can use cat food. Like if this helped!
I got my hedgehog so excited
I live on Long Island we have a lot of a variety of weather... do I need a lamp during the winter
Can you feed your hedgehog cat food? Because I heard that you can and it's still really healthy for them.
Would it be possible to cut down on the dustiness of some of the beddings (like Care Fresh or Aspen shavings) by sifting them in a flour sifter before they go into the cage?
Thanks! This helps me so much, well if I get one!
Could I just have a fleece lining in my cage and have bedding in the litter tray and igloo?
What breed is your hedgehog technically? The coloration of that hedgie is pretty crazy and.. so beautiful at the same time.
My brother works at the lumber shop, could I use wood shavings for bedding?
would you maybe recommend a heat lamp for a hedgehog? Or is that just a big no no.
heat lamps are fine and helpful
Hello I love your idea of your cage but I have a question. Is there a possibility for the hedgehog to escape? Since the cage is open on the top and all. I am currently researching and it is kinda hard cause everyone says his own thingXD Thanks in advance!
I'm getting a hedgehog soon you have helped me out so much

I love the name!! It's so cute!
Hi. Can u please tell me the cost of your cage? what's the average price of a c&c cage?
Is it okay to be feeding him cilantro?
*Baby hedgehogs must never be fed plant matter, as their digestive tract lacks the cecum necessary to digest it. In addition, they cannot digestive nuts, seeds, raw meat, onion, tomatoes, bread, or honey.*
This is the best hedgehog video I have seen. Thanks ❤❤😗👏👏
i went on the website you put for their food, but their are different options which one is the best?
My mom says she cannot have to the house to 75-85 degrees so is it possible a large lamp is good to have near the cage like a lizard would? Please reply back.
Is it true you can use a children's plastic wading pool as an enclosure for them?
Spikes Delight is the best hedgehog food out there but good quality kitten food is even healthier and easier to find. That's just my opinion though, it looks like your hedgie is being cared for really well =)

Tori Guthrie Thanks so much! When you say clean the wheel do you mean wipe all the poo off, or full on washing it?
Depends on how dirty it is :). For the most part just wiping the poo off (: If your hedgie poos a ton, it'll probably need full on washed.
Okay , thanks! :D
OK. Everything with teeth can bite. Bites hurt. They have teeth you know.
One question, I notice she is kind of shy/"mean". Is she always hard to pick up? I mean does she always jump and get all nervous when you touch her?
Where do they live in the wild if they need temps between 72 and 80?
