nice transitions in the Card to Card sound check!!
Came here to say that. I love the attention to detail. I was fixated on trying to listen to the noise and all of a sudden it was like: wait, what did I just see?
yea i like its actualy shown instead of a number you cant imagine how it sounds
11:53 man I really love those morph transitions between cards. It's the small things that make a big difference. Good job
Those acoustics results seem weird. The Red Devil is considered to be the quietest card available, with some reviewers saying it's the quietest card they've ever seen, while here it's pretty much as loud as the reference design. For example, on techpowerup, Red Devil is 31dbA (29 silent), Strix is 36dbA (32 silent), Reference is 43dbA.
It might just be testing methodology differences. All the other reviewers had much better acoustics for the red devil.
@@Elc22
I don't think that that is the problem, it really does sound louder (in his comparison!). I used an HD 700 to listen to it, I hear it almost the same as what he captured with his microphone. Whether you put it in a case or out in the open shouldn't really matter. Maybe he had a bad sample (non properly applied thermal paste or whatever), in my opinion the performance was also a bit worse than what I would expect, especially for the silent profile. Anyway, the 'color' of the sound also is important, I was quite impressed by the sound of the ASUS cards but the Strix costs €100 more than for example the ASRock Challenger. That is a LARGE price difference for the difference in performance, with that price difference you can consider to undervolt the card, play with the powerslider and GPU-frequency and that way run it more silent.
Thanks for the sound comparisons yours is the one and only video to actually demo the real sound of the cards. One can talk all about the db levels of a fan but numbers don't do the issue justice.
I dig the editing and camera shots in this video. i'm taking notes. great video! thanks
Currently running a Sapphire RX 580 (Nitro+) on my new 3rd gen Ryzen rig, I'll definitely go for another one of those for the next Generation/s of Navi. I don't know how they manage to pull it off, but Sapphire always churns out some of the absolute best custom Radeons on the market.
absolutely. 580 nitro+ user here.
I had a 390X Nitro. Memory clocks were locked down for some reason, same for you guys? Other aftermarket cards were unlocked at the time I guess.
Well, Sapphire is AMD exclusive sooooo, they kinda have to haha
No lazy reusing of nvidia cooler designs
@@MKR3238 Yep, also Asus use to be terrible for AMD cards because of this, they would put the smaller Nvidia heatplate onto the large die of the AMD cards and it wouldn't cover it properly and lead to poor temperatures.
Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 8gb here as well. Working perfectly.
They should pay me to choose one of those hideous overpriced Asus cards.
Loved it. Finally, someone who had more than just two of them to compare. Thanks.
Thanks for the overview your analysis is really helpful. I have one suggestion though.
Just measuring noise in Decibels is less than ideal, because it is not linear with regards to human perception of loudness and it says nothing about the characteristic.
The first issue can be addressed by using a psycho acoustic unit such as Sone. The second issue is more tricky. The second one is more difficult to measure.
I think a subjective description would be sufficient. Is there any something like a rattling, hissing, clicking, grinding or high pitch noise, etc.
I'm hoping that the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+ performs better or as good as the Asus Strix RX 5700 XT when it releases. I don't want to pay the Asus tax.
I don't remember Sapphire ever outperforming Asus in the mid-high tier segment. Has that happened before?
I'm hoping the Asrock 5700xt Taichi performs as good as I think it looks (yes some may hate how it looks, I like it), it's another triple fan option.
I'm excited for the XFX Thicc and Sapphire Nitro+.
@@icedouteyes4997 I never liked ASUS for AMD GPUs. Always seemed like they'd cheap out on the cooling or VRM performance.
@@ej1025
Well, I don't want to bash Asus but they couldn't handle the heat of AMD GPUs back in the days. And that made them one of the worst options if you look at the prices.
Man I wish more YTers would do that sound recording bit. Super helpful! Thank you!
Loved the sound test
would like to see a comparison between Gigabyte Gaming OC and ASUS TUF Gaming 5700/5700XT. Priced nearly the same and mostly stealthy black look. Really wouldn't consider picking any cards priced more than +$20 than reference models since its not gaining that additional performance.
OMG! I haven't even started watching this but IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! sorry for yelling but you guy's hit this one on the head so to speak. Thanks for all this hard work. It is very much in the tradition of Hardware Unboxed.
I have another Sapphire card, how do you tell if the BIOS is currently on Performance or Silent mode, other than testing with both?
Also to apply each mode I would need to reinstall my drivers?
Been scouting these models for my gaming rig that I will build in the next month or so and this was great timing. I was already inclined to the Pulse and Evoke non XT, and this pretty much confirms that's what I'll go for (plus availability), given my budget obviously. Will also be pairing it with an i5-8600K and 16Gb ram@3000MHz. Great vid.
The XFX Thicc 2 didn't make the cut?
He wasn't ready for that jelly
Steve from Hardware Unboxed did a review on the THICC 2. you can watch that on his channel.
it wasnt that it didnt make the cut....as he says at the beginning, they were working with what they could get!
It got out-thicc'd by the Strix apparently, and the new MSI Gaming X is even thicc'er
Some tested THICC have similar performance with Pulse,, so no worry
Love the finish of that MSI card. Clean and simple with no RGB.
Eber, did you take apart your MSI Evoke to check the thermal pads? I've been wondering if GN just got one out of a bad batch that passed QC.
Great video! Good job man.
Thanks for the sound samples. The Pulse sounds like my V56 Pulse...noticable resonance from the fans and plastic body, which is more annoying than simply the sound of air being moved. The TUF card sounded good, although there is some clicking noise on both ASUS cards in your recording (AIO pump or GPU coils?).
As someone who plays overwatch still, I genuinely thank you for including it in the benchmarks.
I am 4.3k top500 Player. Ty for including Overwatch
@@idksomeoneyes4902 epic flex bro
@@idksomeoneyes4902 I'm diamond but in my defence, my gpu is a gt 545.
Yea with the latest update, it's like a new game and I think more reviewers should include them again.
@@JamesRussoMillas nope, the game's dead
Good all around video review. I will have to wait for a 5700 XT that isn't two to three slots. :(
How come the TUF is so quiet in your test? I've seen other tests where it was WAY louder.
how about the adobe artifact issues in rendering is it fix already?
My Strix is hitting 88C under 4K with performance bios in a well-ventillated case, where 3 bottom intakefans are blowing fresh air onto the card. Is this considered normal?
Great job, thx dude)
I wished you had tested the quiet bios on the strix and red devil to see which was quieter and cooler under their quiet bios
I’d love to see this lineup but with normalized manual settings, controlling for clocks, noise, temp, etc... it’s hard to compare which is truly the most capable when the clocks are set to the conservative mfg tuned values. They aren’t binned that differently are they? I guess that would be good to know too.
Hey! Great video as usual, thank you! Question: R5 2600 + ROG STRIX 5700XT or R5 3600 + reference RX 5700XT? Keep in mind that the total for both variants is basically identical where I live. Thanks!
just get the better cooler
the 2600 is still good, I suggest waiting for zen3 instead
It WAS an epic battle? I still haven't seen any review of the 5700 XT from ASRock. + that the cards are not available yet or poorly available (price-gouging)
@@faycalassaad6066
It would be nice if they disassembled the MSI Evoke card and checked if that thermal pad issue is corrected. In the Nexus vid the pads looked almost big enough but off-center and maybe that was a QC fail rather than intentional....
I love the smooth look of the MSI card, I just wish it it came in Silver. And wasn't made by MSI.
What's wrong with msi?
@@chillaxzo3988 My friend who used to fix PCs used to always complain how they would always have problems with MSI stuff, either while building, or having the parts come back a lot. Sorta soured my opinion on them.
@@knightshousegames oh ok
If you do laptop reviews can you review the Asus TUF FX505DT?
I acutally picked up a reference card because I got it at a significant discount, 90€ less than the next cheapest aib card, and honestly it didn't feel like it would be worth it, and these results concerning the 5700 cards totaly mirror that. So I am happy with it :)
How has stability been for you guys?
I really wanted the Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT but it's too damn big for my Louqe Ghost S1. Reference cards only if you plan on using a case of this size.
Acoustics and power consumption for the XT cards in silent mode would’ve been a nice inclusion. Especially with the ROG being so close in perf.
i have a strix oc and i have never ever in 2 weeks of playing with this card having 65 +
actually the top i have seen is 65 and that was from playing almost 6 hrs in row
I'm currently rocking an Asus 1070ti Cerberus. Is 5700xt a worthy upgrade?
I would have loved to see a comparison between Asus ROG strix and XFX Thicc
The quality of this video is top notch
the best 5700 xt on temps or wait for 5800. on a 144hz 1080p with hdr
Should I buy strix or wait for nitro to be in stock?? Your advice please
If money isn't your problem. Get the best you can
Sapphire made a knock-out GPU? I can't say I'm surprised, they make really solid products.
How does the MSI 5700XT Mech OC stack up?
Worth waiting some Black Friday - Cyber Monday deals now? (1 month to wait, + potential "natural" $$ drops from time...)
It would be great if you can undervolt the RX 5700 (non-XT) and then record the sound difference. Undervolted should sound just fine for most users. What is your subjective opinion on the RX 5700 soundwise?
@HardwareCanucks
Ebri, for the next time could you please point out how this silent BIOS works on Linux? You mentioned that on Windows you would need to reinstall the driver. How about Linux? It loads the drivers from the kernel during boot, I assume that on Linux it will work immediately when you switch the BIOS but it would be nice if you try it out. Gaming on Linux is a thing these days. ;)
Where can I get the tuf gaming 5700xt? I can’t find it anywhere
I'd chose a Reference 5700XT with water cooling.
42-44*C after 2-3 hours of gaming, while remaining nearly silent.
If I HAD to pick one of those, the Evoke and I'd do some thermal pads where it needs them.
I have the powercooler on my list, but I'm now looking at the RoG 5700 xt strix...
you have to do this again with the new xt models. and separate vids, for 5700 and 5700 xt
why asus always have multi colored cables sticking out the side?... guess thats why they charge extra.....
Does anyone know if aorus 5700(xt) is going to be a thing?
best tripple slot: powercolor
best dual slot: sapphire
change my mind
As a Pulse 5700xt owner, no I cannot change your mind, just reinforce it
verios44 thinking about getting it, Does it all run fine
Both Pulse models (XT and non-XT) are awesome, I don't get why people like to pay more for little to no performance gain. And Sapphire is the most innovative in design, those fans are excellent for ease of cleaning (both the fans themselves and the radiator fins) and ease of replacement. Not to mention the interesting aesthetics, excepting the MSI every other card looks same-ish
The legendary Klobb also the Evoke had early batch defects. Shipped with memory thermap pads that only covered 40% of the chips.
@@verios44 Yes, I watch GN too, that teardown video was so sad to see.
And even if you do like Steve and fix the pads, it's still way too expensive because the Pulse offers same performance at $20-30 less (plus the cost of the new pads, the invested time and risk of messing up your card) with better design features.
Sapphire is at the moment the indisputable king of AMD cards.
Only Sapphire Pulse is ITX case friendly?
AWESOME review and SUPERB production value! I really appreciate all the time and effort you guys put into this vid. @HardwareCanucks has this 5:58 ACTUALLY been confirmed with MULTIPLE card tear downs or thermal runs? Unless more MSI cards have been torn down and confirmed to have the smaller pads, then this statement is false. Yes, Steve @GamersNexus' card had smaller than proper sized pads but how many other MSI 5700 Evoke's do as well?
Yes ^this^. Can you guys tear down your evoke if you still have it?
Steve from GN actually suggests a mod for the MSI Evoke to fix the heat pad issue. It's probably worth it for people who really really want the Evoke specifically, or can only get the Evoke in their region.
Why does everyone skip the asrock Challenger???? Did you experience coil whine with any of them?
same reason everyone skips Inno3D or Palit
Yo HWC, some games/software allow you to lock the framerate by capping it. For people that might buy a card because it draws less power (because it is clocked lower), how much does the gap close by just locking the framerate so the GPU downclocks itself? A usecase scenario would be that you haven't bought a >60hz panel, or don't need something slow paced like Civilization running at 120fps and putting all that heat in your room, but you don't want to buy a lower tiered SKU of the same GPU.
This process of re installing drivers for silent and performance mode was understood the first time you mentioned it, you did not repeat the procedure every time you picked up a different card.
You forgot the explanation between the Sapphire and the Tuf which you said you'd give after the sound test!
Is it safe to get the navi cards? First time builder and not tech savvy so i dont want to deal with driver issues
Not yet. You could get an Asus or Gigabyte vega 56/64 for now.
I would have liked to have seen the Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse in this review, as thats the only non-reference card that would fit ITX cases.
I clearly want to put one of these cards in my new build. I major reason is that Nvidia and Adobe to my understanding have a connection that adds more speed in Premiere that seems to me like exclusion of AMD. Let me know if I am wrong but I see that kind of arrangement to be harmful to consumers. I definitely want to build a mini-itx build with x570 and AMD and want to use the Lian Li Tu 150 Case. That may limit me to smaller GPU cards.
Thank you for doing this
i honestly need one of these channels to do an ROG Strix GTX1080ti vs 5700xt/rtx2060 super/rtx2070 super. I currently have the 1080ti and wanted to upgrade after i grab a new 3900x/x570 combo.. but honestly dont know if i even need to really.....
Just ready whit building my new ryzen 3600 and rx 5700 pc thanks for the build tutorial
Edit
Is it normal that my gpu fans stop spinning when I start up my pc whit out windows or something on it (rx 5700 gigabyte édition)
Yes, think of it as a full speed test pulse to show that the fans work before running on the thermal curve. TLDR similar to a vehicle gauge cluster going to max for a second when the vehicle key is turned on as test.
@@EA-or6ug oh okay thanks
Most cards these days have an auto fanless mode if the temps/voltage are low enough. Same with PSUs.
@Alexander Deris my quickest answer is Sapphire Nito+ is the best with Powercolor Red Devil as runner up if you like the look better. Sapphire Pulse for awesome for the money option.
I'm in love with that MSI Evoke
I would like to see some manual OC numbers as well.
I'm planning on getting a 5700 xt which one better? red devil or sapphire in terms of performance
Sapphire nitro
I needed this video
Wait, no pulse 5700XT?
I'd pick 5700XT pulse because it's the cheapest option for 5700XT and since performance among these cards are not really much different. Just like steve said, AIB 5700s didn't offer much more performance, but quality of life.
What about GGB RX 5700 XT GAMING OC?
What about the 5700 XT ASROCK Challenger?
A lot of digital interference with the noise test. Maybe get a analog signal to record that?
I really liked you showing the sounds of the cards. I find the ticking noises of the Asus cards annoying. I think you should be mentioning the warranty on each card. Powercolor and Sapphire only have a 2 year warranty while the others are 3 year.
really nice review.but wheres the 5800xt ? :-) thks
Where's the link to the GN video for the Evoke that was mentioned??
In the dumpster with the card where it belongs
I think if you just wanna game and u are on budget should go for reference card . I wanna buy that reference xt yea its the slowest and warmer if you have good cooling in casing u are good i thing i would like some help bc i think im right idk. 80° is not that much...and this was 100% on gpu
excellent video, only one of its kind atm
What about the MSI Gaming X?
You didn't link the Gamer's Nexus video in the description as you said you would do.
omg this content quality blow my mind. That sound text those shot those sount camera setup colors montage wtf nigga thats cool.
Where is the mech oc. I can’t barely find anything about the card
it is literally the nvidia Ventus painted for AMD, Ventus is pretty trash so I wouldnt expect otherwise for mech OC
Hosty What is trash about it? The temps? It would fit my color scheme well in my build. It is also the cheapest rx5700 in my country.
@@MasoodK The cooler runs loud and hot. And basically and low end MSI models like the Armor are pretty bad, same goes for ASUS. The only models I'd buy from Asus and Msi are their top of the line models like MSI Gaming and Strix. If you want a good budget navi card I'd look towards Sapphire, XFX or Gigabyte.
I don't quite understand about the switching toggle there, what Driver should I uninstall and reinstall again? Is it the normal Driver from AMD Radeon desktop? Or should i search specifically for the OC Bios or Silence Bios?
Yes, the normal drivers. It might not be necessary anymore, AMD is supposed to release a new driver to fix that problem. Either way, it's not too hard to uninstall the Radeon drivers and then run the installer again!
I recommend flipping the switch and booting up Windows and seeing if the changes take effect without uninstalling, to see if you even need to. If your fans are still running at the same RPM then you know you'll have to uninstall and reinstall to get the BIOS working properly, but if the fan speeds change and you notice the card get significantly quieter, you don't need to reinstall any drivers.
@@MrCykko So i just need to go to AMD website and download it all over again if I switch the bios, hope they fix it soom since this will be my first gaming PC after searching it there and there

The sapphire 5700 which has a inferior heat sink in comparision to its xt brother does bloody well.
The devil card acoustics don't seem right at all. All reviews say it's pretty much inaudible even at oc mode.
They don't, lol. And not all reviewers cherry pick the values, I've seen up to 36dB. Also, keep in mind that this is an open test bench.
Yep, when I got my Red Devil I thought it was loud at first, but then I found out that it was my power supply, I couldn't hear it before over my old loud card, but now it stands out, and its a quite quiet power supply, fractal design 80 plus gold, so to actually hear Red Devil well under load I literally have to get my ear as close to it as I can. Really like the roundup vid. Gonna watch it later when I get the time.
But, not too intrifued since the Gaming X and Nitro aren't here yet, wanned them in such a roundup especially. Evoke and Mech are boring and shouldn't even be considered. The XFX Thicc too with their other variant, want to see in such a roundup.
Out of the smaller ones, between evoke and pulse its hard to decide.
Powercolor is the obvious choice for me out of the bigger ones.
@Stasss Yeah, it is very annoying to start modding the gpu right out of the box. Powercolor still choice number one.
