Wow, really surprised to see someone doing this in 2020. Back in 1973 I did close to the same to a Tecumseh 5hp I found on a stripped mini bike. Had no carb or exhaust. I put a 30mm carb off an old Honda motorcycle on it. Made 18 inch megaphone exhaust pipe. Milled the head. Removed the governor. Modified the fixed timing ignition to advance with the throttle similar to the older boat motors. Put it on a cheap go-cart and it would get to 60mph in a heartbeat. Thing was a beast.
@@syndeko1632 I used the same method that older 60s boat motors used. I don't remember which one goes first advance or carb. One the Tecumseh I had The ignition advance could be adjusted. The magneto had slots in it. I just cleaned up the surfaces, put brass bushings in it and spring loaded it to retard. Use a spring tied to the advance, once it's full to the stops you set it will not go further but the throttle will still be able to open. that's if the advance comes in first. If carb opens then advance do the opposite. I really don't remember which goes first, it was a long time ago LOL
@@USA__2023so I'm trying to imagine the mechanisms for that set up. I have a 58' Evinrude, would that be like how the flex plate under the fly wheel rotates with the throttle being turned? Is that what advances the timing?
I have a 5hp Tecumseh that'd I'd like to add that carb to. Will it work with the governor installed? Will I be able to connect it to the governor linkages?
hi, please answer me, I'm about to build a gokart with 2 seats, with a vertically transformed Tecumseh engine, having a clutch with an 11 tooth pinion, which traction sprocket do you recommend?
Where did you find the Header with the muffler. I'm having a hard time finding any flange exhaust with a 1 3/8" center to center mount holes? Thanks so much and nice work!
With any engine if you're revving it at high RPMs (full throttle) and it doesn't have a load on it and it's just screaming for dear life, it's going to blow💣
If it's a centrifugal governor you can remove it, or unhook it from the carb linkage. I would remove the guts to keep them from failing inside the motor. The same goes with a vane / fan type. Just unhook the linkage .
Will this carb allow me to bypass the stock throttle linkage (which is missing I think my governor bar is as well) on my 3.5 Tecumseh? That would be great. Just got into minibikes for the grandkids. any help would be appreciated. Can you recommend an exhaust pipe & muffle that runs through the frame straight back? Thank you
Yes...this carb setup will do away with the stock linkage and governor the pipe I used was an old tecumseh header that I found on ebay there hard to find but I extended it 5 inches
Hi, Idk much about engines and sorry for my English... I have a tecumseh 6 or 6.5 hp engine and I want to get more speed out of it, any ideas on what to do?
Awsome, i have a troy bilt tiller with this engine and seriously considering this project.. my daughter has a little mm80 bike but she is wanting a bit more power already lol but definitely isnt ready for a 212 or anything...
So i have started this project, motor is on the bike now. Im struggling to tune this carb... I have good idle, super sensitive throttle (cable was a tight fit) but as soon as i turn 1/5-1/4 throttle im losing everything... What setting do you have your main needle clipped at?
I also had to remove the rear fender to accommodate the carb/air filter and mounted the gas tank up on the rail behind handlebars... The bike is a mm80.... Really hoping to get this finished soon... The power diffrence from the stock 2.5 the mm80 came with struggles on take off... Ill post a vid if i ever get it to run with full throttle lol😅.. anyhoo thanks for the video and all the info so far... Any advice is appreciated
What’s up man I have this same motor on a manco I restored recently on my channel but I was wondering how the whole removing the governer works is it like the predator remove the gear and plug the hole
What did you do to adjust the carb? Got mine today and it idles but you give it gas and it dies. Put the choke on and it runs better but not good at all.
@@1manshop335 is that what you had to do? There's two adjustment screws and the clip on the throttle slide. What's your screws set at? And how did you do the gaskets? Thanks
@@kellyedington8716 what you need to do is use the plastic spacer with the slot for the o ring. Use the original tecumseh gasket between the intake and the spacer. Take the slide needle clip and put it all the way to the bottom, towards the point of the needle. Drill the carb jet out to .32, If that doesn't work try .39. Turn the screw on the left to 2 and a quarter and adjust to the highest rpm at idle. Bring the idle down and you should be set, give it gas really slow. Not full throttle all at once. Slowly increase the throttle
One more thing. Can you please go back in your Amazon order and confirm this is the correct Carb. The link you posted is for a PZ20. Are you sure it wasn't a PZ16? For the PZ20 carb (the one on your link) to work correctly on a Tecumseh H35 (3.5 hp) they say the PZ20 will need some jet modifications or else you have to leave the chock 3/4 open to get optimum use.... where as the PZ16 runs as designed. So can you do us all a favor and verify on your original Amazon order posted in your account that the link here above is the one you installed or that when you did your test run of the engine in this video, that you did not have the chock partially open. Thanks.

What size carburetor is being used, new one?
