Dude! This is THE best Tecumseh carb tear down and rebuild I have found on UA-cam. Camera work is outstanding, along with easy to follow instructions. I had my carb apart last night, and now I know all the things I missed or did improperly. Thanks from Canada.
Outstanding video. The detailed commentary and close-up video was especially helpful for me to reassemble my neighbor's snow blower that I messed up by removing the bowl to drain old gas when the float pin fell out. I then lost the needle valve & spring also. Using your video I purchased the kit from a local small engine repair shop and "carefully" replaced the missing parts and put it back together. Thank You for making a video with enough details to show and explain how things (should) work.

I worked in a small engine repair shop for a while. For carb bowls that had buildup like yours did, we used a Dremel instead of a wire brush to clean it. Works like a charm!

I used to manufacture tools one of the items was a plastic magnetic ring that went around a screwdriver. I called it a Stayzon®️ that would be very helpful when inserting a screw into the carburetor. You can also get larger ones that will work with sockets or I’ve even used them when drilling steel to collect metal shavings. I enjoy your videos!
Hi Lawrence, bringing that to a video, especially when it is very important not to miss something, in my opinion is priceless! thank you for watching, the kind comment and for supporting the channel.
I have a 1984 Sears lawn mower that I refuse to let die. That Tecumseh is an amazing engine and just keeps working. Much larger oil capacity, gas capacity and power compared to the Sears Honda I bought to replace it (but only used for a couple of weeks because its under powered). The mower base is mainly made out of pop rivets and sheet metal at this point, but it still does the job. Had fuel delivery issue and took carb apart (first time in 40 years). I was cleaning it with compressed air and blew the needle seat somewhere in my shop so the job grew from a quick clean to a carb rebuild. Although needle/seat/gasket kits are cheap online ( you can get multiple kits for under $20 - no idea if they are any good), I just went to my local supplier and got one for $10 CAD. Thanks for the guidance. Much appreciated - especially the orientation of the seat. I just reassembled it this afternoon, flushed the tank out and that engine started right up and purrs better than it has in the 24 years since I inherited it from the previous house owner.

Amazing video! Exact carb that I have. Bought an old Ariens 7524 brand new from Habitat for $550. Couldn’t figure out why it kept lugging until all of the sudden gas kept pouring out. Opened the bowl and found that the float was entirely filled with gas! Such a great video.

The surging is a blocked port. You will need to rebuild it again. I would also check the fuel tank for debris. If it doesn’t work the next cleaning, you will need to replace it. Make sure your you also have fresh gas in the tank.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Ok... good points all. Thanks again! I'm so glad I don't earn a living doing this! Respect what you do SOOO much! I can use all of the new parts I put in, right?? didn't replace the emulsion tube, but used new o-rings...

Thank you for this great tour! It pointed out a couple mistakes I made rebuilding one that was almost the exact same. Mine has a metal float and an idle needle. Was having a leak which seems to be fixed but I'm still having an issue where it seems to drink up the gas in the bowl and kill the engine faster than new fuel is delivered. Even though it flows fine with the bowl off and the float dangling. I might need to play with the float adjustment some more. We'll see if a ROP shop carb does any better.
Certainly the art of carburetor rebuilding is slowly dying and being replaced by cheap foreign knock-off replacement parts. Nice to see this video being thorough. While foreign components may work fine, those foreign parts are typically not built to the same tolerances as the OEM parts and usually do not last very long. I have been rebuilding carburetors for 55 years since I was 12 years old (just for fun) so I can share a few thoughts. First there is no single correct way to do a rebuild. Use whatever tools you may think you need keeping in mind that nothing should be unreasonably forced. Soaking a carb body in mineral spirits or kerosene will help loosen gunk build up in older seldom used carburetors. Compressed air is a great way to clear orifices in the main valve and carb body, but be careful not to blowout a seat that you are not replacing. Sometimes a rebuild will seem too simple and you might second guess if you did it correctly. Trust yourself and your work. Carburetors are meant to be repaired fairly easily. The engineering is built into the designs. All you are doing is a refresh. Wear eye protection especially when using chemicals, and wear gloves especially if you have allergies, skin conditions, etc. If you put a good hand lotion on before you work it will help your hands clean up afterwards and protect your skin a bit better. Enjoy the time and the dying art. Its rewarding.

Last we never had issues with it starting due to the primer button I have all the parts including a new carburetor by Luck,But I was very interested in rebuilding mine also so this is the identical carburetor that I have and I think I want up rebuilding mine and still keeping it adding the new one on the snowblower so this is a very good detailed video that you made I enjoyed watching it I’m learning about the carburetor that I have on my snowblower

Very good video. I have a 10hp snow king that's giving me crap. I ordered an "OEM" carb which looked and sounded like shit. I will be rebuilding the carb and see what happens.
If it is a non adjustable carburetor? Sometimes it may take 5 to ten minutes if run time to start running good. The carburetor needs to warm up and that is difficult to due when it’s freezing outside.

Got a snow blower today. It has a similar carb engine turns over I probably need a rebuild kit. You where I can get one. Great video thank you you explained it very well
You will need to confirm you have the correct part numbers for the carburetor you are working on? but I have links in the description below for parts on this carburetor in the video.
Great video thanks for doing it very helpful when doing mine I have the same carburetor that had a small spring sitting in the bowl don't know where it belongs but it runs well
Thank you thank you thank you! I've never done anything like this and your video helped me feel like an expert when it was all said and done. Will definitely be subscribing to your channel!
Glad to hear! You may want to look into buying Aspen4 fuel if you can get it. It will keep you from having gas going bad and having to rebuild your carburetor. Check it out online and read up on it. It’s not for everybody but it is 92 octane no ethanol very clean burning, and will help with easier starts and you’ll be able to store in your machine for up to two years. You must only use this by itself and do not mix with other gas. I cannot recommend this fuel enough. Thanks for watching my video. Please share my channel with your friends to help it grow! Is there ever a case where the pull cord housing needs replaced? No matter what I do, the thing eventually pulls out without recoiling. I've done the trick... it still pulls all out and stays out. And I replaced my float bowl gasket, super carefully.... and something is still leaking, seems from within the intake...
Either the spring has broken inside or you rewound the spring the wrong direction at some point and the tab at the end of the spring bent the wrong direction and now is not catching inside. If you can take apart the recoil assemble? (some do not come apart, some do). You can try and source of spring for it through a parts look up or replace the recoil assemble. I will take a guess as far as the fuel leaking from the carburetor. You must have not put it together correctly. The needle and seat is most likely the issue. Unless you have a brass float that may have fuel in it. Or bowl gasket not seated correctly.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I think it's my float. I haven't disassembled the carb, only removed and cleaned the jets and changed the bowl gasket. I noticed my float doesn't move as freely as it should. It will stay in whatever position I put it in, so I'm thinking I positioned it open, and it's staying there. I think I gotta replace the needle valve and make sure there's no fuel inside the float. I'm also thinking I should just get a new recoil housing and hope that fixes that issue. I'm lucky I do have an electric start that works.
When my mower is 5 cm lower on the left side while mowing it stops working. Might be ignition or carburator. Thank you for your video ill try if rebuilding the carburator will change my situation 😀
Your very welcome! Thank you for the kind comment and watching:) Please give this video a like, and share my channel with your friends to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated.
This is the best rebuild video I ever saw just to help get yourself a good set of micro drill bits to clean jet holes but dont force them you don't want break them in hole just twist them with fingers
I have a freind that's about 90 percent paralyzed but he gets around via electric chair and he holds a job as a dispatcher we belong to a gun club that holds block shoots with shotguns . I told his buddies how to make a hook to put on his finger so he can pull the trigger on his gun and now he can shoot and he even goes out west and shoots antelope at long ranges it's a pleasure watching you and how you work with your handicap I just wanted to tell you that story cause guys like him and you are inspiring to other people handicapped or not thanks for the video
So I'm in the process of troubleshooting my old Ariens mower. Pretty sure its the carb and there's some issues of fuel not getting to the carb b/c it will run if we pour fuel down into the Air intake. If all else fails and I need a new carb where do I find one? The carb is a Tecumseh 632524. It is from a TVS120-63111F on my Ariens 911016 mower from the 80's. Your video has been exactly what I'm looking for though, I didn't realize how many other small holes there are that I need to poke out and spray carb clean on. sheesh
I doubt you can get the original manufacturer carburetor any longer. I would suggest cleaning your original carburetor in a ultrasonic cleaner and rebuild it. You should be able to still get the original manufacturer parts for it either online or local lawn mower shop.
I’m glad it was helpful and your back up and running!! Please give this video a thumbs up and share my channel to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated!!
When you prime the carburetor, it is designed to be pumped up into the throat of the carburetor. If you over prime it, it will flow out of the front of the carburetor and seam like it is leaking. It may just be over primed.
If you have a lathe, you can lightly clamp the bowl in it and run some 400 grit sandpaper to remove the grit around the top of the bowl, and then I burnish it with aluminum polish and a cloth.
Different colors makes it easier to make sure you have the correct one for you carburetor as they are different. The emulsion tubes allow air and fuel coming from the main jet to create a fine mist air and fuel regulated before going into the combustion chamber.
Another great video! Don't know why I say that because all of your videos are so informative and like the way you explain everything. I have one question. I just purchased a. Ultra Sonic Cleaner. What did you put in it to clean the carb? I believe there are some liquids you can and cannot use?
Great video. Why does my nozzle look like its brass or something? It doesn't look plastic. I haven't taken it out but looking inside it looks like brass color.

Great video. A nice professional work space. Well organized. Nice !!
Thank you:) I’m glad it was helpful.
A very small crochet hook the smallest one they make works great on taking out the emotion tube

Thanks for your input, besides small engine stuff hopefully I'll always have at least one vehicle with a carburetor. If I'm lucky maybe more than one.
Awesome video...a small screw work real well to screw into emulsion tube and pull it out

Great video it’s Fourth of July I was out in the yard for hours taking everything off of my 24 inch Toro snowblower which has identical carburetor.

You rock, thank you!✌🏼

Got a snow blower today. It has a similar carb engine turns over I probably need a rebuild kit. You where I can get one. Great video thank you you explained it very well
You will need to confirm you have the correct part numbers for the carburetor you are working on? but I have links in the description below for parts on this carburetor in the video.
Good job. Thanks
Thanks Charles! and thank you for watching, commenting and supporting the channel :)

Followed your video. It worked . Thank you
Glad to hear! It would be greatly appreciated.

Very good !!
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful.
Great video. Surprised teh kit doesn't have the mounting gasket.
When my mower is 5 cm lower on the left side while mowing it stops working. Might be ignition or carburator.
Thank you for your video ill try if rebuilding the carburator will change my situation 😀
Thank You!

What cleaner do you use In your ultrasonic cleaner?
Simple Green mix
I know it's that time of year for snowblower use. But you just never know when the carburetor goes bad. But hey good job on this one.
Thanks Michael and thank you for watching, commenting and supporting the channel.
You can drill a bowl and install one of those drain kits
I have a lot of bad days and I have two hands I don't do any better than you
Try using a little bit of grease on the tip of your screw drivers to hold small screws, especially BRASS. Great show
Does that kit come with the spring loaded drain? Mine broke and no1 has it, and now my snowblower is leaking fuel
No, You will need to buy the bowl without the push button. That is all they sell now.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I got some screws and o rings and gaskets to try and stop the leak for now... gonna have to order that bowl and wait.
very knowledgeable, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for this ! got me out of a jam
I’m glad it was helpful and your back up and running!! Please give this video a thumbs up and share my channel to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated!!
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines ohh.. I did !
good video! when I prime it, gas leaks from carb over the float bowl any ideas?
When you prime the carburetor, it is designed to be pumped up into the throat of the carburetor. If you over prime it, it will flow out of the front of the carburetor and seam like it is leaking. It may just be over primed.
thank you for your prompt reply
Great info.
Thanks Robert, I’m glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind comment.
For the tube possibly a long thin screw?
Whatever works!!
If you have a lathe, you can lightly clamp the bowl in it and run some 400 grit sandpaper to remove the grit around the top of the bowl, and then I burnish it with aluminum polish and a cloth.
Can you please explain what the different colored emulsion tubes are and what each one is for??
Different colors makes it easier to make sure you have the correct one for you carburetor as they are different. The emulsion tubes allow air and fuel coming from the main jet to create a fine mist air and fuel regulated before going into the combustion chamber.
Another great video! Don't know why I say that because all of your videos are so informative and like the way you explain everything. I have one question. I just purchased a. Ultra Sonic Cleaner. What did you put in it to clean the carb? I believe there are some liquids you can and cannot use?
Check the directions for your machine. Correct, many cleaners that you can use. I just use concentrate Simple Green. Works for me!
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks again!
Great video. Why does my nozzle look like its brass or something? It doesn't look plastic. I haven't taken it out but looking inside it looks like brass color.
If you have a non adjustable carburetor and the main nozzle is brass? You do not have a Tecumseh carburetor.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Ok maybe its a knock off but it looks exactly like the one in your video
Thanks so much for your help....ALMOST wrecked my sisters lawnmower 🙄

What is your favorite solution for cleaning carbs in the ultrasonic cleaner? Nice video.
Simple green and water. It works great!
