289 and 302 have most things in common, but call me crazy - I've always thought 289s in stock form and not HiPO sounded a little better. Plus I've had 60s 289 Mustangs and 302 Mustangs and thought the 289 was less buzzy when taken to red line. A 69 302 I had would vibrate just a little more. I think flywheel and balance is different between the two. Maybe that's part of it.

Very overlooked engine IMHO. Buddy used to build non-HO versions without too wild a cam or compression to bench at high 300 up to low 400 HP. Very driveable.
