    Cannondale Synapse Carbon 4. All the goodness without anything integrated. Upgraded to carbon wheels, and 2X GRX groupset making it great for light gravel as well.

    I have a 2018 synapse hi-mod and it’s bloody brilliant! 7.4kg with the stock wheels, power meter and 11 speed etap - fits 35mm tyres for gravel and I have taken it everywhere and it’s plenty fast enough for a KOM on strava! The current model is a major step down for me, absolutely too fussy and unnecessary.

    GT grade carbon elite. I run a 11 36 cassette. Affordable carbon bars with gel inserts. MKS urban pedals with Zefal nylon quarter clips. SKS speedrocker. I suspect its more versatile and more affordable than most of the above. Final mention is Maxxis receptor / rambler / ravager and spare front wheel.

    I'll stick with my 2015 canyon cf endurance with kyrsim sl's rim brake bike that weighs 7.7kg and is an absolute rocket.
    I had a 2020 giant defy 105 disc and it was a nice bike but boring to ride. I also had a few issues with the disc brakes and needed a replacement back wheel.
    Sold it and bought the 5 year older canyon and the canyon is nearly 2kg lighter, faster and way more fun to ride. They have over complicated bikes now and made them heavier yet much more expensive so I'll stick to my canyon.

      I got the Synapse for my son in 2020. When the wife's not looking, I may get one for myself, but not with all the integrated lights and such. For my money, the Synapse is the most comfortable bike I've been on, even if it's slower than my Bianchi Oltre.

    I previously owned and loved a Cannondale Synapse, but their integrated tech is a turn-off to me. I'd much rather have third-party lights, etc., that can more easily be replaced after a couple of years. I love the looks of the new Canyon Endurace, which seems to hit the sweet spot of blending weight, aero, and comfort considerations. But I'd much rather have mounts for a top tube bag instead of that tiny storage compartment that looks like it would be very fiddly to try to open and close while riding. Maybe they could release an accessory replacement cover with mounts built in so you get the best of both.

    Too bad Cannondale does not have a hi-mod Synapse without the mandatory light/radar system. Also, does the Domane really need the rear suspension with the current trend of wider tubeless tires? The new Endurace looked interesing, but if riding can't help but think of the battery cover of my remote when looking at the downtube (which is frequent). The Endurace is also heavier than the prior iteration. If only Specialized would offer an Aethos with endurance geometry!

    Love my trusty upgraded old Wilier GTR SL but it's time for a newer bike so I've been waiting for Vitus to get the Venon back in stock in my size with the spec I want here in the US. I think it looks great and the value is hard to beat - just wish you could choose your color independent of the parts spec. On a side note, the front light and cables on the Cannondale just look messy.

    • @23gt17
      @23gt17 7 місяців тому

      @@taylorhenderson8123 Hi! I wish I could tell you that I was able to get the Vitus but unfortunately they suddenly shut down their US office just as it looked like they were getting stock in. I thought about getting it from the UK but after hearing about their parent company's financial struggles I didn't want to get stuck with a bike from a company that might shut down any minute. Plus I was a bit turned off when I learned you can't get the Venon in the spec the bike mags tested with carbon wheels for the price they listed - in other words Vitus kinda sent a ringer bike to the journalists.
      I looked at other choices like the new Endurace and Grail but ended up with a kinda left-field choice by ordering an Allied Echo instead. They have a sale going on right now so for just a bit more than the Vitus' retail price I can get an Echo with my choice of paint, carbon Zipp wheels, and a powermeter. It "only" has 40mm tire clearance versus the Venon's 45 but instead it has flip chips to change the geometry. It's also made in the USA which I wanted to support and I'm going to get this stunning color-shifting harlequin paint on mine. Their customer service so far has been great and I'm totally looking forward to getting my Christmas present to myself :)

      Yup. Have the Merida with mechanical ultegra. Got a deal on it. It rides well but the stock saddle and wheelset are garbage. • @monkmchorning
      @monkmchorning 7 місяців тому +1

      What never worked for me with the Roubaix was the extremely tall head tubes. The Roubaix was really in a class by itself with that. And I've heard some riders dissing Future Shock--I'm not sure if they're still using it. Since then, the cockpit geometry has become more conventional.

    • @DaigoroToyama
      @DaigoroToyama 7 місяців тому +1

      @@monkmchorning Thanks for your insignt. Mine is a 2021 model, and I do believe it's got a taller head tube than many other endurance bikes, quite possibly because of the Future Shock system. It happens to work for me as I'm not a very flexible person and wouldn't be comfortable slamming the stem. 😅

    • @monkmchorning
      @monkmchorning 7 місяців тому +1

      @@DaigoroToyama The Roubaix had extraordinary tall head tubes right from the start, 20 or so years ago. I think that's because the founder of Specialized, Mike Sinyard, although a strong rider, could not rotate his pelvis.

  • @WhatTheFlipOfficial
    @WhatTheFlipOfficial 11 місяців тому +4

    Comfort is mostly dependent on tires, wheelset, saddle and bar tape. Every aero bike with a "too stiff" frame I've had instantaneously became "comfortable" with a nice wheelset and top tier tubeless tires. If that's not enough, adding mid-tier carbon saddle and more cushy bar tape would complete the transformation. An endurance bike doesn't necessarily mean it's more comfortable. In fact, endurance bikes actually come with subpar wheelset, tires and saddle. Just going from alloy wheelset and saddle to carbon already makes a big difference. But the star of the show are good tubeless tires. Most aero bikes can be made to fit a person the same as an race/endurance/endurace bike: shorter/longer stem, smaller/larger frame.
    Screw these categories that bike manufacturers make. They mostly use the same carbon material on the entire line and put it to a "traditional" shape and consumers fall for it. Most race and aero bikes have literally the EXACT same geometry. Most endurance bikes are just race frames in a different size. The dampers/shocks/springs like the ones found in the Roubaix are the only things that could potentially help with long distance comfort. If you're riding 100km on average, what I said earlier is enough.
    Source: I'm on my 101th bike and it's a 2021 Systemsix EF Rapha Ed., tubeless 28mm gp5000 TT tires, Drive 65D wheelset, Primavera Saddle, Supacaz bar tape and it's significantly more comfortable than my Cervelo R3's, S3's, Giant Defy, TCR, Propel, Cube Agree, Spec. Tarmac, Roubaix and more.
