    Good review. If the reach is 5mm longer vs older model would going down a frame size be a good plan to get same reach? Surprised nobody’s (even giant) is make much fuss over the improve aerodynamics. It’s clearly more aero than the last one, integrated cables for one. I’m not sure why all reviewers get hold of the top of the range model to review that nobody can afford or will ever buy. Why not review the model that the bulk of your followers will be able to afford and buy? Would make the review much more relevant.

      Weirdly, by reviewing the top spec they get a better comparison between models. Typically top spec bikes have the best of everything, so it isolates the frameset.

    For all these reasons is exactly why I recently ordered the Defy Advanced Pro 0. Also considered the Canyon CF SLX, but considering it's in Germany(I'm Canada), so many poor end user reviews, and the fixed stem, the Giant won out. Prices were similar once the Canyon was shipped to Canada, so that factor evened itself out. Looking forward to the new ride!!!

    I am having serious buyer's remorse. I bought at 2023 Defy Advanced Pro 1 mid-summer. I actually asked the Giant dealer if I should wait for the 2024 and he told me they weren't changing anything. Had I waited I would have a lighter bike, a cheaper bike (I had to spend $800 on a power meter that's now standard and there was no price increase on the 2024), and fully integrated cables. :(

    If I would want the frameset I would build it up myself. No hookless rimms and probably Sram Force AXS. This frameset has some nice colours and it shows how the new TCR will probably look like.

    Thank you for taking the time to put this together. I am looking at an eventual upgrade to my 2020 Diverge Expert, which now sports the Force etap group with a 10-50 cassette. It's kind of a heavy dude compared to today's offerings, even though it's a lot more comfy than my 2001 Cannondale R4000, which I actually outfitted with 28mm tires, defying the bike shop owner's recommendation, and he admitted I was right. I was limiting myself to looking at S-Works stuff, specifically the Crux or Roubaix.
    I must say I like the SRAM etap Force setup, and its self-adjusting via the phone app is a phenomenal advantage for this old boomer. The weight is similar to both Campy and Shimano's offerings, and it's cheaper by a decent bit. I especially like the decreased weight.
    Has anyone else ridden one of these Giant Defy frames? I don't even know of a dealer here in western Virginia.
    Thank you again for this review. I learned a lot, even though I did not apprehend all of the words due to the rapid and strong accent.
    Ride on, people!

    The review is about the top of the range model. What about the entry level advanced pro and the advanced pro models? As far as I can see there is a significant price increase with minimal changes (the handle bar). I don't think this is a good strategy. I hope you can review these models and provide us with you insights. Thanks.

    • @twatts4436
      @twatts4436 27 днів тому

      In giants range an advance pro uses the Pro sl fork, whereas the advance uses a lower grade fork. Frame wise the two lower tiers are the same.
      The pro sl fork is stiffer and lighter, so may have more pointy handling.

    • @Gianniz27
      @Gianniz27 Рік тому

      The new Endurace is pretty expensive2023 CF SLX and CFR modells, and even top CFR version frame weight is heavier then 3rd tier base modell Defy. Also frame geo is very strange on Canyon, like 540mm long top tube for XS frame, etc.

    • @LosihoTTT
      @LosihoTTT Рік тому +2

      @@Gianniz27 I was comparing the specs & prices to certain models, for example Canyon CF SLX 7 with 105 Di2 for $5,700 compared to the Defy Advanced Pro 1 with Di2 $6,500. The Endurace CF7 with 105 mechanical is $3,100, the Defy Advanced 2 with 105 mechanical is $3,800. I'm sorry, for $4K (after adding pedals, accessories, etc) for a bike with 105 mechanical, it's too much. Years ago bikes with 105 mechanical were around the $2,500 - $3K mark.

    Wait...the stack is lower and the reach is longer? So they are just making it another race bike. Giant has ruined this model. I used to own the first year of the 2nd generation of this bike. The 2012 Defy Advanced 0. Test rode this, the Synapse and the Roubaix at the time. The Roubaix was just too flexible, the Synapse and the Defy were very similar and the Defy cost less for the same group so I got the Defy. Loved it for years. Finally it started to show its age so I wanted to upgrade. The 4th generation had just been released and I had my local shop get me the same size in the Defy Advanced Pro 0 (the Force AXS equipped bike). Man was I disappointed. The new bike just felt dead, and it was 1.6 lbs heavier than my old Defy (that was SRAM Red 10 equipped and was pretty light). I was hoping for this new version to have brought back the lively feel of the 2012 but as a now 50 year old non racer who has a 40 hr a week desk job...longer and lower is a losing proposition for me.

      Now to see if I can get my hands on an old stock 22 or 23 model - they are last good ones. And they don’t have the dumb and annoying cables through the headset.
      RIP Defy - you used to be a wonderful gimmick free bike.

    • @dirkb4276
      @dirkb4276 11 місяців тому +5

      So make the wrong conclusion. If you add more spacers to reach the same effective stack the reach is decreased. I checked and adding 10mm spacer gives you exact the same effective reach and stack as the previous. Unless you already needed 30-40mm spacer on the old just adding 10mm you have the same setup

    At 5:39 it appears that the rear wheel is way off dish to the right side by quite a bit, also the rear wheel appears that it's also not lined up with the seat tube, if the wheel is mounted correctly then the wheel and seat tube should be aligned as one. BTW: I'm old school, since the 70's a steel frame has been doing the job for me, no gimmicks and so on, if I can do 100 plus mile ride and still feeling fresh after that ride then what's the use for dropping almost 12K for a bike with a frame that will die well before one of my steel frames, one of which has survived well over 40K miles. My new old bike will be a 70's/80's modifide lugged steel track frame to road and it will be a screamer of a ride. Just my 2 cents.

    WTF is an "endurance" bike? How many minor variations on the bicycle can marketers think up?
