Literally their hardest and most unpredictable, random drum line I’ve heard out of their discography and you nailed it. What an incredible performance, man.

    • @SimonSchroederDrums
      @SimonSchroederDrums  2 роки тому +23

Thanks man! Yeah, I decided to learn this track before I even had an idea of how hard this actually is.. it took me quiet some time to get down all the parts. But it’s a blast to play this stuff 🤟🏻

yogev gabay explains the pattern. it's very long but there is one

@@boarderking133 yeah, every song by Meshuggah has a pattern of course. Here it’s really the length that makes it so hard to get down.. one repeat takes around 30 seconds

Tomas Haake has said in an interview that this one will almost definitely never be played live

@Bittersweet Duality I genuinely didn't realise there were songs they weren't able to absolutely nail live. This one doesn't sound particularly more difficult than usual to me, but I'm definitely not a drummer

I would argue that The Abysmal Eye is the "Clockworks" of Immutable... I've listened to many live recordings from their performance of that particular track and Haake struggles a lot with the basedrum pattern on that one.

@TemalCageman yeah, I found it difficult seeing him struggle with that live, but he is still a GD beast in everything I've seen him do.

How supercool this is. The ghostnotes, hh tapping, sound, relaxed precise performance. You totally nailed it and I love it. Fantastic. Sound awesome too. And that's a fingerlicking set of cymbals.

Simon - the timing, ghost notes and off beats on this track are straight jacket material. Magnificent, remarkable, precision work around what is a glorious looking and sounding kit. The camera set-ups are superb; giving us a fantastic overview of your footwork and left/right hand combos. Your Meinl cymbals are glorious. Don't stop. Don't feel bad, but thanks to you I am giving up drums and taking up the recorder.

Excellent interpretation and I believe and in my personal opinion that this is the most technically difficult song that the band Meshuggah has done in their entire musical career and you were able to interpret it, congratulations.

Thank you for not making the artificial camera sways too aggressive. Your The Abysmal Eye cover was so severe in the sway I can't watch without throwing up. I do still hope the sways would reduce much more.

@@SimonSchroederDrums For the first half, even though the back beat is there, it still feels absolutely foreign in the context of the song and riff. Each time I try to wrap my head around it and count, Tomas adds some tricky accent, fill or ghost note here and there, which immediately throws me off guard.
I'm not a drummer myself, but I can definitely appreciate and acknowledge the immense amount of work you've put in your drumming. The limb change in the second half is something to behold. Absolutely impressive.

Haha that's very cool! Thanks man - and yeah, I will keep on working on this channel. Actually the numbers just got up from 500 subscribers in December to 1.5k - so that's a big improvement which I'm very happy for :)
      Cheers!

Awesome dude. I use music software for transcribing Meshuggah tracks so I can play along at different speeds. I remember buying Chaosphere when I was still in high school and using graph paper to figure out how to play New Millennium Cyanide Christ when I was still a fairly noob drummer lol.

Thanks man!! That sounds cool! My introduction to Meshuggah was their 2006 Release of "Nothing" (this remixed Version) - I basically learned almost everything I know about Polyrhythms while listening to Meshuggah.. Cheers! 🤟🏻

Thanks! This took a lot of time.. I guess counting it right was the part that took most of the time for this cover :)

It took me several hours of practice and repetition just to be able to play the main riff pattern, on the bass with a pick. Due to how seemingly random it feels. Can’t imagine how difficult this is on drums. Respect

Thanks man! It was pretty hard to learn for sure.. This might be the hardest song I ever covered on this channel. Cheers 🤟🏻
