Literally their hardest and most unpredictable, random drum line I’ve heard out of their discography and you nailed it. What an incredible performance, man.
Thanks man! Yeah, I decided to learn this track before I even had an idea of how hard this actually is.. it took me quiet some time to get down all the parts. But it’s a blast to play this stuff 🤟🏻
@@boarderking133 yeah, every song by Meshuggah has a pattern of course. Here it’s really the length that makes it so hard to get down.. one repeat takes around 30 seconds
@Bittersweet Duality I genuinely didn't realise there were songs they weren't able to absolutely nail live. This one doesn't sound particularly more difficult than usual to me, but I'm definitely not a drummer
I would argue that The Abysmal Eye is the "Clockworks" of Immutable... I've listened to many live recordings from their performance of that particular track and Haake struggles a lot with the basedrum pattern on that one.
How supercool this is. The ghostnotes, hh tapping, sound, relaxed precise performance. You totally nailed it and I love it. Fantastic. Sound awesome too. And that's a fingerlicking set of cymbals. Hope to see more!
Hey there, thanks a lot! I'm glad that you like the video - more coming soon! :) I´m also a big fan of the Meinl Cymbals - especially the Byzance Dual Series is just beautiful. Cheers!
Every time I get used to headbanging to Meshuggah, they come up with a new way to fuck with me. That breakdown at 2:55 is absolutely ridiculous, and you still nailed it! Major respect.
Holy fuck, the fact that you can play this song damn well is one thing, then switching dominant hands took it to another level. Absolutely stunning performance 🤘😤🤘
Insane!! it is just insane!! and you've nailed it all, good job my friend! What kills me is how to come up with something this mad, Haake is really nuts!
You absolutely murdered this dude. This is one of those songs I always thought was unlearnable considering Tomas refuses to play it live but thank god I underestimate our fanbase.
Thanks a lot!! Yeah.. this definitely was a tough challenge.. technically "Clockworks" was harder to play, but "phantoms" was harder to learn in my opinion. Cheers!
the good thing about it is that it doesn't *sound* like you had to concentrate really hard.. all those ghost notes, they're so fluent and flowing, the whole thing just unfurls beautifully
Simon - the timing, ghost notes and off beats on this track are straight jacket material. Magnificent, remarkable, precision work around what is a glorious looking and sounding kit. The camera set-ups are superb; giving us a fantastic overview of your footwork and left/right hand combos. Your Meinl cymbals are glorious. Don't stop. Don't feel bad, but thanks to you I am giving up drums and taking up the recorder.
Hey Peter, Thanks a lot! I‘m glad that you like my videos so much! But please don’t stop playing the drums because of my videos - sometimes I also want to quit when I see some other drummers 😅 but in the end I take it as a challenge and try to grow and get better. That‘s the whole cycle of motivation really :) Cheers and thanks for watching!!
Thanks! This kit still absolutely impresses me with it's sound and look - A Tama Starclassic Birch/Walnut. The heads in this video are Aquarian Reflector heads - nice sounding heads with a lot durability! Cheers!
If Tomas Haake saw this video he would tell you that he is proud of you. Excellent interpretation and I believe and in my personal opinion that this is the most technically difficult song that the band Meshuggah has done in their entire musical career and you were able to interpret it, congratulations.
