- With the anticipation of new MESHUGGAH on the horizon, and the release of The Abysmal Eye, @johnnygotgrowls and I decided to go over our favorite 12 riffs from them, and yes, we played Bleed.

Dear Andrew, tuning of perpetual Black second is wrong. Originally it played in
E a# d# g# c# f# a# d# (like Stengah and Marrow)
@@aceofphrase The tuning of the song "Perpetual Black Second" is in E standard 8 string (E A D G C F A D), the song "Stengah" do you played in E standard or Drop E. And the another song "Marrow" is in F standard.
Where is the "Rational Gaze" song Andrew?
@@bruceanthony8345 no, you aren't right man. Fredrik dropped only 8th string because they used only one guitar on their concerts. For reason, Marrow was recorded in
E A# D# G# c# f# a# d# with a pitch up of half a step at some parts
What is Drop A#0? i can't find the tuning on internet
Years later and Meshuggah STILL hits different. Heaviest band of all time
Crank that up to decades
@@MrJayArt Probably the heaviest band with consistently good riffs
@@cheesyrichard i have to disagree when i listen to a meshuggah album from start the finish i can only find 2 or so songs i like the other songs just feel like fillers
@@MrJayArt who’s heavier
@@nope44589 their tone and distortion isn't even that "heavy". tunning low does not mean "oh man that's the heaviest" just means it's a low tunning.
Break Those Bones is such a legendary riff I love that groove
Makes me want to sacrifice a newborn.
Facts bro
You learned Bleed! That's awesome man!
*learnt
@@ayandey137 learnt would apply if the sentence went like this: “Bleed has been learnt.” Learned is the correct verb for this specific phrasing.
@@vernaltear sure? In that case thanks
@@ayandey137 the word learnt is used when the subject of the phrase is the thing being learnt.
“You learned Bleed.”
“Bleed was learnt by you.”
Ok English Nazi@@vernaltear
Most legendary moment in the Andrew Baena channel
How tf did you find this so early haha
r u a time traveler?
It'sboffadeeznutzacrossurface
That breakdown in Lethargica is still, and always will be, the heaviest breakdown ever created!
oh hell yeah. especially the live versions because the lower bpm makes it 10x heavier imo. its so doomy and brutal
The breakdown in Dehuminization is still the most brutal Meshuggah riff.
@@frankthecat1660agreed, dehumanization is freaking crazy
For those wondering, on Nothing they used different tunings by only tuning down the 8th string (live they keep it at F standard though). So, for Stengah, Perpetual Black Second, Glints Collide and Organic Shadows the F is down to an E, for Nebulous down to Eb (creating a Drop Eb tuning), for Obsidian down to D and for Spasm all the way down to Bb (and in the last minute of the song even further down to A).
If it doesn't sound like electric cables it ain't low enough
Actually on Nothing only nebulous and spasm just drop the lowest string. Stengah, perpetual, glints collide, and organic shadows are E standard. Live they simply keep the guitar in F standard on those.
@BiRDiEMusic interesting, so they were really experimenting with which standard tuning was practical for their uses on that record. Half step down, full step down, step and a half. Makes total sense.
spasm is all a#
I remember seeing Meshuggah quite a few years ago in Oregon. They opened for Obituary. Blew my mind. The Abysmal eye is a gem in my eyes. Especially coming from hearing ObZen from them initially.
Didn't realize obituary was that big good for them
How long ago exactly were they opening for Obituary? I believe you but it does sound a little odd.
@@ZaidPhyre I don't even remember, it had to have been at least ten years ago..
@@ZaidPhyre Hemlock was also on the tour.
Rational Gaze , Demiurge , Behind The Sun , Pravus , Dancers. So many more heavier riffs
The 3 and half minute mark of Pravus is bloody heaven
every song in their discography has a contending riff
I had the fortune to see Meshuggah live and it was some of the heaviest shit I have heard in my life. Nothing can top a sea of people bouncing to Rational gaze
Bleed at the end was fucking fiiiiiiiilthy
also that Thordendal sig is insane man, it looks like it weighs 50 pounds but sounds like it weighs 10,000
amazing choice of riffs, and still a lot of my favourites missing. meshuggah sure do know how to write.
also, i had no idea spasm was in A#0, holy hell. that’s an absurdly low tuning
Yea and the whole song on that one note. Shows how ahead of the curve meshuggah was and hoe to this day. No band will ever do it as good as they have and continue to do
Sick video! Little sad nothing from chaosphere since that is the heaviest meshuggah album to me but i did appreciate the perpetual black second and break those bones riffs
Definitely some heavy ones on there, but to us, their 8 string songs are what we think are heaviest for sure. Corridor of Chameleons, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Future Breed Machine, etc are all great songs too of course though
@@BaenaCarcosa I just miss the bass being an octave down to give that chonky sound haha
@@BaenaCarcosa i mean a riff doesn't have to be on an 8 to be heavy but for the context of the vid i understand ig. Dope vid nonetheless, can't wait for the new album
I had a few on our list to use but it takes us hours to make these so they didn’t make the cut unfortunately. My apologies 🤷
@@johnnygotgrowls completely understandable, no apologies needed haha

You're welcome Mr. @@goto228i
Great selection of songs. It was especially nice to hear "spasm"
Glad to see Spasm here, pretty underrated Meshuggah song yet one of my favourites
Absolutely Pummeling. Is the best way to describe these riffs.
I wish Pineal Optic Glands got more love...probably the most underrated track on Obzen and nobody ever talks about it
Thanks so much for featuring Spasm Andrew Baena. Its awesome to see you play one of my very favorite Meshuggah songs ever. And not only that, but to know what tuning it was in… that I could never figure out, lol.
dunno how I got to an unlisted video but this slaps.
Edit: I'm not even a patreon member sorry for looking at this early Andrew 😬😬😬
they're never going to want to hear another single meshuggah song again
Only now am I really learning to appreciate the dissonant chugging on Koloss
One of my favorite tracks "straws pulled at random" I love it!
The love for Meshuggah is appreciated! Keep it up.
Seriously so talented and amazing choice 👏
Amazing work, my ears are in heaven throughout the video and you did well to make this work like one continuous song of progressive djent metal :P
Born in dissonance is so straight in your face liquid metal heavy! eSPECIALLY the riff right after the tiny solo part!
Shocked Demiurge, NMCC, and the Pravus breakdown were left out
Great video and great choice of riffs!
Nice! Well done!!
So Awesome. Please let this not be the last time. Need sequels
2:59 Spasm, its SO GOOD! :D gj
i fucking LOVE this video thanks a lot this made my day andrew!
God I love that bleed outro solo and riff so much. Props to remembering that chromatic solo shenanigans
Great video 😊
I found out about meshuggah via the wolf of wall street meme video and im so glad that i did.
in death is the BEST breakdown of all meshuggah songs
Great job on that Bleed solo wtffff!!
I love the thing you did with changing your beard color every now and again
Sweet guys! I bet your insides are just feeling that bass...damn!🌹
The groovy riff from In Death Is Death is sort of refreshing from a band like Meshuggah, love to see it featured here
Not gunna lie I loved ya'lls little bleed cover there, that was sick and unexpected
I'm delighted to see you start out with I am Colossus....and to follow up with Break those bones...👌🤘
Very cool video.
Horns up..
U GUYS ARE DOPE!
I like that the Bleed solo actually wasn’t quite what it is in the album. If you watch them live, you’ll never hear the same solo twice
you guys are damn talented
Johnny's facial expressions made me lol!
Good job boys!
Chaosphere is my fave but y’all crushed these. Long live Meshugga 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Really Great 🤘🎸❤️ big up' to Johnny, he gets the whole come together nice, as well Andrew🔥🥰👍👍🕯️
Metal head for life!!!! I love you, dude!!!!!
2:06
Same, man. Same.
Well. It seems that my request was answered and probably planned before i even requested it. Thank you
The bridge to Nebulous !!! I f*cking love it
That guitar is massive 😯😯
Goddaymn that bleed solo was good
Nice!!!
i was just waiting for the moment that in death - is death popped up
YEAH!! Perpetual Black Second!
That breakdown riff of lethargica slows down time
Hey Andrew, I think you can definitely learn Bleed begining to end! You should try
the remixed Nebulous, well played.
I knew Spasm was tuned low but holy shit I didn’t think it was *that* low! 😧
It's basically a 9-string riff played on a downtuned 8.
this needed the outro of Dancers To A discordant System
Finally you got that bleed pattern
It's because of your new guitar
Wow it's so cool to see you collaborating with Freddie Dredd!
I'm purty sure that Perpetual Black Second and Stengah are tuned to the same tuning, that is standard F but tuned the F down to E.
you did ittttttt!!!!!!!!!
Best metal band of all time
No "Demiurge"?! Andrew! How could you miss that heaviest in universe breakdown??
riffs legend of father Djenty
This video should just be every Meshuggah riff
4:43 this shit gets me going every god damn time!
Nice! Although I'm pretty sure Perpetual Black Second is in F Standard with the 8th string dropped to E just like Stengah's tuning.
Ayyy he did it! He learnt Bleed!
some good fucking picks.
Patreon early-access gang!
You cannot watch this video without doing the Jens Kidman face. It's the only way! 😬
Hell yeah Nebulous, they should play that song waaay more frequently live.
Dude Stifled needs to be number one on this list
must have a part 2 for not putting the riff from dehumanization in the list. it's simply the most incredible breakdown ever written
FORTIN NAMELESS IS GOLD
PERPETUAL BLACK SECOND
Is it possible to get a LOATHE guitar sound without a baritone or a bass VI using a pitch shifter?
Stengah was in E A# D# G# C# F# A# D# in the 2006 re-release, but in E A# D# G# C# F A# in the 2002 release.
I'm just here to hear Spasm over and over again... 2:58
Fuck man I got to get me one of those...
Combustion always hypes me the fuck up.
I believe Stengah is technically F standard but with the low string dropped a semitone - that is to say, E-A#-D#-G#-C#-F#-A#-D#. At least that's how I've seen one tab written for it.
Once you started with Colossus I knew I was on the right path.
YOU CANT CUT BLEED THERE
I was thinking about searching for some ez F or drop F riffs for my daily practice and there is like 8 of them in one video! Thanks guys!
What string gauge are you using on top of that Black 8 string? Is that 0.74 or closer to 0.80? I have 26.5 scale guitar and i think 0.76-0.80 is sweet spot for F1#-E1 on top.
This is a 27" guitar, but yeah I use an 80 for a low F or E
@@BaenaCarcosa thanks for answer i think i keep my 0.80, seems like that half inch already makes a noticable difference, i feel like 0.74 for low E is already to slim, ofc for 26.5"
I use a 90 for F1 on my 27' scale Ibanez RG8, I can get down to about C1 before it gets too floppy, i play in either C1 G1 C2 G2 C3 F#3 G3 C4 tuning or C#1 G#1 C#2 G#2 C#3 G3 G#3 C#4 tuning, I use a 90, a 60, and then a standard 42-9 set :)
Sometimes I play in double drop D/D# (D/D#1 A/A#1 D/D#2 G/G#2 C/C#3 F/F#3 A/A#3 D/D#4) or F standard (F1 A#1 D#2 G#2 C#3 A#3 D#4)
that must be a pain to restring
Wait wait wait... You did Heaviest Meshuggah Riffs and you DIDN'T include the bridge of Clockworks!? THE AUDACITY SIR. 😂
There are many riffs in "I" that would deserve to be in this video
Jacques plante fan!? Let’s go baby!
You know it
The mad bastard did it he finally played bleed
Where did you get the tabs? I got my first 8 string and want to practice some Meshuggah riffs but I only find tabs for 7 string guitars
Great tone! Are you using any other Impulse responses or just what comes stock with the fortin plugin?
All stock!
@@BaenaCarcosa wow that’s really dope!
Bro I loved the video but how was Rational Gaze not a part of the list???
