"What would a Wizard being doing on the Coast?" I strongly approve of this wordplay.
Can't believe I didn't realise it untill now ...
Wow
Well spotted!
I dont get it :-(
Making tons of money with cardboard rectangles
Magic at its finest
@@spearlex1461 Actually that was TSR. WotC bought the IP around 3e.
The DM forgot that the clone spell exists, as said by Zee Bashew
"If you killed a high level necromancer, you probably didn't"
O look. There's your family and everyone you liked. Just ignore the rotten flesh.
Do you know what a Glyph of Warding is?
Once had an Illusionist BBEG who had too many contingency plans and it actually annoyed the party. Killing them became more of a chore than a satisfying story... Let's just say we don't talk about 'The Dream Quest of Unknown Backarth'... On the bright side, i've learned from it.
@@blacksarlacc91 "Here's everyone from your home town, but zombies!"
@@DoomsdayR3sistance As it was written on a lot of surfaces in Order of the Stick: "I prepared _Explosive Runes_ this morning."
"I don't know, all these NPCs look the same to me."
Love that little reference to the DM playing nearly all of them 😁
I thought it was just her being a psychopath.
Technically speaking, all the NPCs Nixie encounters do look the same. It's really difficult to tell one pile of smouldering charcoal from another.
Speaking about the DM, I'm surprised that he's actually maintaining THIS much restraint! I mean.......I'm stunned! He looks like he's about to lash out in absolute anger and fury!
If you add the part, where the DM was so surprised, that he has to repeat one line with the BBEG, as by it's disbelief about the player's disregard about the character he forget to use the right "Voice", that notion get an extra effect.
As a dm, ouch man lol
You know what's funny? If you've read the original novel "DRACULA"... this is pretty much how Dracula meets his end. The gang just chase him down to his castle, do a 1890's equivalent to a driveby, gang up on him and stab him to death.
So people have been one shotting the BBEG for literally centuries.
A time honored tradition
Well, I mostly remember audiobooks with monotonous "And wound on his chest squirted his unholy blood into my mouth..."
Millennia even.
David doing this to Goliath set the course of human history.
Nooo I was nearly finished with the book 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I once did this, but for comedy purposes.
I brought back an enemy boss who had managed to escape at the end of a lvl 5 quest... when the PCs were all level 20.
He started bragging that his plan had come to fruition, and he would have his revenge.
While they were having a blast laughing at the fact that they couldn't remember who this guy was in the slightest.
They started asking questions on how they met to the flabbergasted enemy, and in the end they *VAGUELY RECALLED* the general situation.
Then the barbarian one-shotted him.
Was the guy still at level 5? XD
that would be ccol. A fake BBEG that makes the player waste some resources before the real one(s) steps in.
@@orsettomorbido
Yes, he was a minor demon.
While months, years had passed, and the party had grown... for him pretty much nothing had changed.
I have a wizard I put in every campaign named "Bargle" that is my ever-returning (no matter how badly beating) joke BBE kind of like that. If you let him, he will do a grandiose bragging rant each time until the players force combat to begin. Well, usually. The players tend to try to investigate how and why the guy keeps coming back. Comedy injections in campaigns are awesome... well, you probably already know that.
This is hilarius
So, how did the barbarian did that one shot?
I almost expected the Bad Guy to realize that he was talking about an entirely different set of heroes.
And that this party just managed to stumble upon him at the wrong time.
And they murdered his minions without even knowing for sure whether his spell was good or evil. They just wanted to murder him for loot.
That's brilliant! I think I'm gonna use that in a game.
Surely you meant the anti-party, right? The guys that current party have pissed off in the past.
@@darkrood Agreed. They should have looted him. His stuff looked expensive, which is the reason they attacked him in the first place.
@@MarsM13 pretty much when the minions have skull masks they generally do not have good in mind....
I personally would love it if the DM felt so unappreciated by his players that he decides to leave this campaign. Season 4 starts with him being the DM for the previous guest characters instead (the Cleric, Barbarian, and Paladin) and they're respectful and super invested in his worlbuilding and NPCs and the DM doesn't know what to do with this at first, cuz he has kinda forgotten what it's like to not play with a chaotic evil/neutral party.
...Meanwhile, our beloved murder hobos are trying everything to get him to DM for them again. 😁
I want more of the Cleric!.
Yeah. I don't know how I'd go DMing for a chaotic evil party like this one. Particularly if I wasn't appreciated for the work I put in.
That would be a great plot for an episode, only for him to wake up and realize it was all a dream and he had a session that day.
What about the warlock?
Up
I just realized that they regarded this guy as so trivial that _Nixie didn't even bother to burn him._
Damn, man. How low do you have to sink that Nixie doesn't even consider you worth using a fire spell?
Or maybe she learned not to throw fireballs when teammates are in crispy range. Ah, no, that only happens later.
I can sense the DM's internal pain when this climax of the story he built up to for so long has been completely ruined.
@berlinroots But thats why the DM has DM powers. TO make situations like this more "balanced".
then stop railroading to try and force the moments you want to happen.
If it was me, my heart will be broken by that natural 20. But this team will be erased of my agenda for not listening at all.
In my head, 'Hello Darkness, my old friend' was playing during that scene. Too many DMs have had that moment of broken plotlines and reassessing their entire life.
@@darkrood counterspell! I cast counterspell. Ok guys lets beat him up!
Thanks so much for watching Season 3! We had such a blast getting to make more episodes for you. Huge thanks to Screen Australia for helping us make it happen!
But this isn't the end of 1 For All. Our Season 4 Kickstarter launches August 4th. We hope we get to continue making cool things for y'all in the future~
Is he the elf the players got imprisoned?
Put up a reminder and promise a musical number 😄
I'll be viewing it for sure looking forward to Season 4!.
Impressive work from your entire team, and we eagerly wait for more!
Amazing work on this season and I wait with baited breath for the next one!
“So let me get this straight, none of you remember who this guy is.”
I feel you.
He should have given the big bad evil guy a catchphrase or a theme song.
*DM a bit later looking down on his notes and standing infront of the mirror*
"They have did it again. They have ruined the adventure..."
*a voice from the mirror speaks*
"... they did, but the story and preparations continue."
*DM looks at the mirror*
"Yes. They do indeed."
*the voice from the mirror speaks*
"Don't worry. Soon they shall know of, The Shadow!" 😅
The SHADOW??!!!
Love that film/film series.
The shadow!
The Shadow!!
Guys, you are all asleep
One word, jar
I'm guessing the "teehee guy" was some random NPC which DM improvised in the tavern and was not important whatsoever, but of course players remember him.
Given this party, he'e probably important for not being seduced, stabbed, or fireballed...
…wait so you're saying we are not meant to remember him?
Was it a nigahiga reference lol 🤷
Edit: I just read a comment that they posted saying Ryan Higa was a formidable foe. 😂
They always do.
I mean yeah he laughs like "tehe" how could they NOT remember him?
love a good BBEG monologue
Poor DM, plans an epic Lord of the Rings masterpiece. And it is all brought crumbling down by players out of Monty Pythons Holy Grail
Every freaking time. But I love my players, anyway.
That's why you should as game master never waste too much time on epic boss battle planing, just let a fool be the end boss, the jokes on the players ;)
Rookie mistake. Always assume players will try do their weird things. Only when something epic happens by accident do you ride the wave and make it seem as planned.
As a DM part of the fun comes from the world being a serious world but the PCs are just bumbling idiots
We are the knights that say Teehee.
My heart goes out to the DM.😢😭 All the effort none of the appreciation. To all Great DM's everywhere, my thanks and food bribes! 🥰
Any time your players walk away at the end of the session laughing and saying "That. Was. AWESOME!" you did something right. No matter how different it was from what you had planned, the players are right. It was awesome. Take the compliment and reward yourself.
"All those NPCs look the same to me." Hah, this one is better than the wizard joke that preceded it.
Fridge joke. Cause the same guy plays 80% of the npcs. Now I get it
True
*facepalm* I'm ashamed I only heard that as a throwaway "All these names are the same" type line. Bravo.
"All these NPC's look the same to me." The DM looked hurt when he heard that one.
I so want to do this when my DnD group meets the BBEG.
"Ummm, who are you?"
Also its a great joke because the DM actor plays each character in this lol
( DM will remember that)
He should have brought out Little Dixie.
Hell yeah... *I* was hurt, when she said that. :D
"All these NPCs look the same to me." followed by a shot on Kendall's face.
I love how this show self-references itself.
Nicole: "I don't know, man. All those NPCs look the same to me."
DM, stares into the distance with a 1000-meter stare.
Hello darkness my old friend
That’s a bit over 1,093 yards (or just under 3,281 feet) for those of us in the US.
They've come a long way from TPKing in that Tavern during session 1.
nahh, they haven't
That meeting in the tavern was actually session 0, which makes the TPK all the more impressive.
Dude, 100% respect to the DM.
He wrote out lines and and even drew what the guy looked like
And that jinxed him
"Nobody messes with us!"
At this point, they're just asking for the DM to open up the "fun" side of the monster manual, and I don't think he'll feel bad about it.
Me in 3.5 bringing the freaking beholder mage.
Have you heard of the laernaen hydra ...
Did you know that Tarrasques live in packs when they are young
Everyone one's a tough guy until the Fighter shoves them prone.
Our party was kinda like this when the DM sent a cyborg T-Rex during our first session of Numenera and the poor thing didn't even get an attack in before we killed it. We soon learned to fear crowds of weak enemies …
As forever DM, I feel this pain deeply. But at the same time, he did the DM's first job. The players had fun in his game. :)
not all the players, the DM did not. And DMs deserve to be as happy as anybody else
@@flexprime2010 That's a fair point
"All these NPCs look the same to me."
*DM Death Stare*
"All these PC's look dead to me."
"I remember a guy laughing, but it was more of a 'Tee-Hee!'"
Wait, they faught Ryan Higa?
A formidable adversary
I searched for a comment like this to see if it was on purpose :D Guess it was! Nice
Must have been difficult fighting that incredibly handsome Changling.
@@aerissai8341 That's his familiar, Marley.
That's what I was thinking 🤣🤣🤣
Everyone is so perfect in their deliveries... just the masterful combination of acting and overacting as if not acting.
There's also the bit at the end... with Kendall both showing the disappointment in not being able to properly show off his carefully crafted baby of a campaign finale (even cradling it, as if it were a baby), but at the same time mustering a smile - both as a "this is fine" moments, trying to hide his pain (a "hide the pain Kendall" if you will), as well as a reaction to the players saying, how much they enjoyed the game/session - in a way, he did provide them with the perfect entertainment, even if not the way he anticipated.
And another thing - special congrats on how the DM's notes look - beautiful ilustrations. I paused the vid and tried to read as much as possible from the text - that is a well designed encounter - with a lot of nice puns on the way.
Remember to invite your DM out to eat/drink after a session if that's what you intend to do post-game! They work hard for you to have fun!
"Where do three heroes go next?" To the same cliffside apparently.
We were going to move to the next cliff but Thor was shooting there...
Yeah, this was kinda disappointing. They used the same location and everything.
Hey, don't feel bad...Doctor Who still uses some of the same locations such as desolate quarries they always have.
@@artemisiatheta7549 don't get me wrong. It felt disappointing but the effort in this is amazing.
@@Jennifer-tx6dj power rangers has used the same quarry pretty much since the first season.
"What would a wizard be doing on the coast?" BEST LINE EVER!!!!
"All these NPCs look the same to me.." is a close second, referencing that the DM/same actor plays all the NPCs
could you explain the wizard at coast line?
@@DGSnowolf Well D&D is owned by Wizards of the Coast
@@selpharessecret3899 Ah I see
@@DGSnowolf D&D is published by Wizards of the coast
That look of defeat at the end reminded me of when I played DnD with my brother the other day. I used a fire cantrip on a powder substance to create a Pseudo-Fireball. Damn near TPKed us all! Now the trick known as, "Dale's Pseudo Fireball," is banned from play.
Dale being my player character.
I was 100% expecting a flash cut to the DM crying in the shower
I’ve only just realised how gorgeous the dice Kendall uses are, I must have them, that and the notes, THE NOTES ARE AMAZING
I literally came scrawling through the comments to find Kendall's dice. MUST HAVE SHINY CLICK CLACKS
Are they the dice they got off of the paladin player?
They finally broke him. Now HE will be the next villain. Or in this case, maybe the hero to go after this murderous group of villains? XD
Well, aren't all DMs the villains?
@@orsettomorbido Not if the PC's are walking the Way of the Wicked!
Are they the bad guys?
That might be a way for a DM to get subjective revenge. Make the offending character a villain in a completely different party's adventure. Might save him some creative work, too.
I love the fact that in the end, the villain actually laughs by saying "teehee"
Everyone involved in this show keeps improving their work chapter by chapter from the actors and actresses, the production team with it's costumes and their camera angles, to the ones who writted the script or choosed the appropiate place to film, and even the post production team who did a big flex with the great special effects in this video. Congrats to everyone involved in this show, it really is awesome!
That smile of the DM at the end speaks at least two volumes.
1: You have no idea what is coming your way
2: They had fun. I love it.
I thought we were going to get a silent compilation of Kendall walking around outside, holding the book close to his heart, then tossing it into a lake.
No, that was CLEARLY a broken smile. "I should be happy that my players had fun, even if I didn't" nah fam, everything you worked hard on is gone in a second. Not fun. It's devastating.
@aeris sai, I thought he would go to a closet, open the door, and set the notebook on top of a stack of similarly-planned campaigns...
@@orsettomorbido I was just about to say a similar thing. That kind of smile is a broken one, and it's not funny in DM perspective to get the npc obliterated in no time because the party has the urge to kill anything in its path :v
as a forever DM this episode hit me in the *FEELS*
Agreed.
0:20 that 1-2-3-4 step smile is impresive. Best evil smile i have seen on screen ❤
It is intresting that evil doers eant to be remembered , discovered and want to be "wanted". How touching.😢😢
Near the beginning of my campaign, I showcased my BBEG just to frighten the PC’s and show them what they were up against. One of the players got a super lucky roll and one-shotted him. I went dead quiet for a while. Eventually, he asked, “Did I just kill your main bad guy?” I had to take a few minutes to regroup. In a later session, I did pull the ol’ resurrection routine.
I love how for a sec his voice went to normal xD
He's that royal advisor dude they pinned the regicide on :P
@john smith No, surely not! 😱
I thought the same thing!
No, not likely. It couldn't be the same actor. They looked *completely* different.
(Sarcasm)
(puts hand on chin and nods confidently) the true enemy was sarcasm all along :P
I love that the dm, after everything was derailed was still happy because they enjoyed the campaign
All these comments, and no-one seems to have mentioned how amazing Kendall looks as a drow - even better than his elven royal advisor. Massive props to the makeup department!
As a DM, I feel this in my soul. XD Always a toss up when you have all these AMAZING PLANS and your players do like the most random stuff that ruin said plans, but they have a blast. Ah, fun times herding cats.
This DM must be going through some emotional times after each session
A wizard on a coast, pure gold! To be honest, this happens ALL the time with my party.
"All his NPCs look the same to me"
Lol, the look the DM gives
I mean hey, the players left the session having had a great time all laughing and talking about what they did, they even complimented the dm on a great session! Sure, dm having plans be ruined by the dice kinda sucks, but at the end of the day, this season has ended the best way any dnd session could - with smiles and good memories! Can't wait for next season, because all the same you guys have brought smiles and good memories for all of us!
Well its not only the player who should be having fun, but the dm, and didnt look like he did.... really sucks when players dont pay attention
Well, it ended for smiles and good memories for the party, while the DM likely felt awful after having his entire build-up and plan of the last few weeks/months completely shit on and ruined.
Sure, it's nice to have the players enjoy the session, even if things didn't go as planned, but only up to a certain point. DMs can also feel as awful as a player would when the big, cool, strong character they've been hyped to use and play just gets completely dumpstered and wasted.
DM: "Why Are We Still Here? Just To Suffer?"
Few people replying that the dm should be having fun, and absolutely! I don't mean this in any way to say he shouldn't, I'm a dm myself and seeing plans fall through sucks. But! Compared to many of these sessions where the players are bored, the dm is angry, and it's just an unhappy, it's a lot of growth! Seeing that the players are genuinely excited about the game and really enjoyed this big bad guy encounter is progress compared to before!
This is also the head of two recurring themes in these videos: DM vs Players (and the problems with that), and that, when everyone (those playing and those running alike) should feel like what they are doing is cool, there is an issue because everyone's opinion of what is cool is different. To get all three players in agreeance on something being cool - to the point of excitedly talking about it - is great, because it means that a joint excitement over it is great! The dm, however, had a bad time because his build up didn't pay off in the way he thought was cool. That doesn't mean that it DIDNT pay off, but it does mean that this encounter, like many encounters, were built for the *dm*, not for the full game, which includes the players. The dm makes encounters he think is cool but doesn't factor in the players, the players do what they think is cool and derail the game, and SOMEONE is bound to be unhappy.
Will we ever see the day where all peoples are in agreeance that the session was cool? I hope! The players have been growing to agree on having a good time, but the dm has to grow as well for this. And.... At the end of the day, this is a comedy about dnd. Growth can be a pendulum, and we have a good laugh watching this group work through it together. So getting to see some definite growth in on aspect is very fun to see :)
Tldr: dm should have fun, absolutely, but needs to realize he isn't having fun because he needs to make encounters with adjustments for the players so that everyone feels like it was cool :)
Smiles and good memories?
Given how the players behaved, I seriously doubt they'll remember anything beyond a vague memory of having a good time ... maybe.
I feel sorry for DM in the END!!! The Notes, everything what he does means nothing !!! Good emotionful episode! Thank you !!!!! :D
Feel ya. Been there with the NPC/Villain nobody remembered despite being IN THEIR OWN BACKSTORIES. ;_; The one campaign where i went with the BBEG trope for the villain.
It's okay DM. I feel your pain. You give them a world and voice everyone in the world other than the players and they can't even remember thier names or back story.
I was waiting for him to put the file on top of an ever growing pile of defeated - and too soon forgotten - villains.
A monument to his suffering as a GM.
The DM feels are so true."Did you guys listen to anything I said?" Ooof
I call it "the curse of Sam Riegel"...
*laughs in villain* the subtitles are a treasure too
As a gm, I feel the pain. I don't even blame the players, not really, but it hurts sometimes. They really focus on minor details while ignoring the stuff you planned hard too often.
Can't wait for season 4! It was a lot of fun with you guys!
4:39 the way he said Balgornuth sounded like a death metal growl 😂
I would like an ep (in season 4) where the dm don't want do the dm anymore. In this way the dm will be they 3 (1 per time). In the end they will realize how important is the dm's work.
OMG, can you just imagine what a campaign DM'd by Antrius would look like. Or any of them..... it would be awesome and weird in equal measure. And temporarily-ex-DM Kendall could let all his murderhobo tendencies out at last !
that's a great idea honestly.
Yeah, but the DM better have several characters pre-rolled up for the murder hobo DMs. They'll torture him that way too unless he gets the others teamed up with him against each one in their turn by manipulating their characters to do all the merder hoboing and keeping himself clear of the repercussions the others DM'ing will have to visit upon the party, then he saves them at the last minute, all in turn.
Patrick deserves better and I await his intricate revenge plot in season 4 🥰
okay, honestly? the costumes... mwah. superb quality.
"What would a wizard be doing on the coast?" Now excuse me while i find something unique and beautiful so i can watch it die.
"and here it is... as the party left the room, the DM sats down with a heavy sigh, contemplating over what had just happened. All that planning.. for nothing.
A book shudders in the background, catching the DM's attention with a soft green light. On the cover, it says, "The way of the munchkin: DM Edition"
The DM smiles... and look at the camera."
I hung up my dice decades past, but I remember vividly what it was like to play this game. So much laughter! Your series captures the free-form manic silliness perfectly. Kudos to all concerned!
"I don't know, all these npcs look the same to me." XD love that meta humor (especially when Kendall basically plays 95% of them).
And this is why a DM always needs more than one plan... even if it means random monsters for awhile 😎
Why would there be a wizard on the coast? Heh, I see what you did there.
"Ive been there. Orchestrated the events every step of the way"
*Gasp* Old man dm!?
Wizards draw a lot of mana from the coast for endless counterspells!
"What would a wizard be doing on the coast?" 🤣
Every episode has been amazing! Thanks for the laughs :)
Teehee :D
Amazing conclusion to an awesome series on an incredible show. great job!
We'll be back with more soon 😏😏😏
Hey, i remember him - he is that elven advisor from the "Deception Check" video!
I guess he became a lich in persuit of his revenge against the party.
+they do all laught there...
I so recognize that look! The look a DM gets when the game goes totally off the rails.
So the group finally encounter Arthas
Gonna enjoy these lads antics for the last time this season..
Looks more like the FFXIV lvl 60 Dark Knight armor if you ask me.
"Muhahaha!"
"Tihihihi?"
"Ah, he was the Teaguy."
shoutout to the makeup department they really achieved making the skin look like its made of stone
"what would a wizard be doing on the coast?" LOL.. i see what you did there
I got a big laugh reading over the Necromancer's character sheet! Nice jokes on there for a freeze frame bonus.
I love how the production value gets better almost every episode. You guys rock.
Towards the end, you can see the DMs soul leave his body... XD
Poor Nixie didn't get to cast any fireballs.
imagine final battle with a scary wizard and he laugh "tehehehe"
Next season, after DM is battling with his crippling depression and can’t run the game, the players take turn in running one shots : D
Of course the DM tries his hardest first to have some amount of fun, then tries to derail things with all of his strength, then becomes the MVP of the table and learns once again why he loved it so much in the beginning :)
Enjoy winter down under. It's a blazing 96 degrees F today, even after a morning rain. Looking forward bloopers and season 4!
"do you even listen to anything i said?" yeah... i know your feel bro ^^'
Here from Viva La Dirt.
"*laughs in villain*"
love it.
"What would a wizard be doing on the coast"
Cancelling the open game licence surely?😉
That downblouse though. It felt like spring in my heart.
I feel sorry for DM.
Look I'm willing to do a campaign to stop Balgoruth if they aren't. I'm sure there are a couple other of us.
More then couple
Yesssss I’ll do it I’m in
I'll bring the sexy teifling bard with her guitar who'll try and seduce everything in sight.
I have a changeling rogue assassin who impersonates a sweet human cleric
The special effects were great honestly.
It happened a similar DM experience to me too, a few weeks ago. So, I felt all of his pain... There, right in my heart!
I love the genuine reaction to that natural 20. It must have taken a while to roll that one.
I so feel that dm's pain in this episode...
Sad to see Season 3 is over, but I hope to help out with the kickstarter when it starts
that was the face of a DM that didn't realize he is the god of his own world yet, and every player should bow to him if he so wishes.
Props to the makeup and costume team. That BBEG outfit was amazing. HOpe it wasn't too heavy.
Poor DM, unable to recognize the complete Murder-Hobo nature of the game his players want.
Yup, time to roll up an outlaw campaign for those maniacs!
I've done that to a DM or two. Also, Nixie is still best pyromaniac.
I feel for the DM.
This is how broken hearts, and in the end, a new nemesis is born.
Always honour your dungeon-master.
Because he is the one who gives the most thoughts about everything.
But...well sometimes suprising him or blow up some plots is also very fun >:D
