Can't believe they got a real Beholder to be a part of this! Glad he could find some time in his calendar.
It's easy to "find" time with so many eyes...
It can put this in its CV
Their easy to kill if you can get pass their beam attacks as fighter.
What could he be doing? I mean with this economy and all the hate movements towards beholders. Discrimination is real. My brother's boyfriend is a beholder and he was recently fired from his daycare. Sad world.
Who would’ve dreamt?….
Beholders are notoriously paranoid af, so it makes perfect sense that they would adhere to city planning guidelines.
Evil, yes. But they're LAWFUL evil
and well read on them
2 good reasons for that include the fact that those rules exist for a reason and if someone found violations, there could be strife that kicks off an uprising that ultimately would end in their defeat
my favorite beholder story was chris perkins running out of the abyss and the players convincing a beholder that there was a much more insidious nose tyrant out to get it, and that it was already winning because it had covered the beholder in invisible noses, so the beholder started eye raying itself to get rid of them -cuz if IT was a nose tyrant that's exactly how it would crush an eye tyrant, by covering it in noses that it couldn't see!
I have beholder as Magic Shop owner, only "evil" thing he does is to sell cursed magic items to cheapskate adventures who try bargain prices low...
So now the DM is playing with himself. And he's still the most stable character.
That wording is interesting
And fisting everyone! XD
Perhaps a rephrasing is in order...
@@corvus1253 Considering the wifu line, this wording is fitting.
pure gold XD
When a DM has to RP with themselves it always looks funny. It’s even better if a DM uses sock puppets.
Oooooh now i'm enthusiastic!
As expirienced DM, I do it really fast.
And always the result is some new problems for players.
@@user-cs5ld9if2y Normally you don’t want to RP by yourself as a DM because it disengages the players but when I do it I will always do two things.
Have a distinct voice or tone of voice for each character and use it as an opportunity to show players the relationship between those two characters.
@@freakychee It depends on the situation. If the players spy on a conversation for instance it is more or less required and a good DM can do it without being boring.
It is something you see more in intrigue based campaigns though, 1 for all is a dungeon hack and those rarely needs that kind of interaction.
And yeah, I agree that you need to make it clear who is talking by using a different voice or dialect instead of constantly saying who is saying what, that becomes annoying fast for both players and DM.
Of course, sending the players on an escort quest with 2 NPCs who hate eachothers guts can be pretty amusing for the DM and having the same voice requirements, but that is rarely amusing for the players ("escort quest" is annoying enough in itself). But hey, DMs needs to have some fun too.
@@loke6664 correct! That is why I say usually (or similar, forgot the exact wording I used). There are many instances where a DM may need to RP with themselves to mitigate the reason why we should not do it too often.
I can really see a Beholder being worried about building code & zoning laws 🤣
In all fairness to the beholder, HOA's really are a pain in the ass if you don't keep up to standard....
@@captin3149 What is an HOA?
Exactly, no creature is more paranoid than a Beholder
@@Thurgosh_OG Home Owners Association. In its simplest form it is a neighborhood who gets together and pools funds to take care of larger expenses the community shares or to set down rules they want the people participating in to obey by. You also have to pay a normally monthly fee to be apart of it.
Some HOAs are nice and provide pretty good amenities others can be a huge pain in the neck and a nightmare. Depends on who is on the board which is usually voted in, but most people don't care so you normally end up with Karen's in charge because they are the only ones active enough to want to get elected in. If you ever look to buy your own place checking out what the HOA is like is normally a good idea.
@@pooker1208 sounds like weaponised Karenism to me. Beware of NIMBYs in groups.
I love how Evandra doesn't realize she's the meat shield of the party 🤣
yeah I usually embrace teh meatshieldness when im barbarian paladin or fighter
The entire party are my meatshields, but, as I'm not a monster, I try to reuse them in adventures.
When your NPCs are ironically more heroic than your PCs
Isn't that what 5e is?
@@Dayandcounting No?
I had a game where a player was a carpenter and noticed how terrible a vampire's lair condition was. That was before they pissed off the Vampire Lord who would have massacred the PCs. When the party were about to fight it, the carpenter convinced a trade of labor for disturbing the vampire.
Now the players want to chat to this vampire to the point it nearly derailed the campaign.
Lol that's awesome. In my current campaign we broke into a flameskull's lair and instead of fighting it we convinced it that we were archaeologists.
We where about to fight a frost giant, when the warlock (entertainer background) asked if it was lonely in the mountain and offered to sing the ballad of the princess who went on an adventure to save a dragon from an evil knight if he lets us go.
it is only derailing if you railroaded them. Everything else is just what the party wanted.
Every DMs three best tools of choice and wonders: Improvise, Adapt, Kill the party... oh no wait, Improvise, Adapt, Roll with it! 🤣🤣
@@gecko2.617 adapt* (not adept); adapt= change plans as needed (i.e. basically improvise) whereas adept= student. 🤔
@@pablohammerly448 sorry, autocorrect made a change to it, since I am not using english autocorrect. ^_^
thank you for pointing it out.
They didn't realize it at the time, but they have set this little halfling on the path towards becoming the high king of the realm. Tricking him into an adventure was just the nudge he needed.
They did it, they finally did it! They managed to break the DM so much, that he starts to DM himself. I wonder if that little halfling is going to be a pain in their arses in future episodes. :)
Well, he does like fisting, apparently….
If he solo-adventures and ends up equal level to the PCs as a monk, it'd be brilliant. An actual capable character whose catch-cry is still 'who wants a fisting?!'
that halfling is 100% the BBEG
I hope so 🥰they need a moral compass other than just their poor cleric who i am sure goes through massive therapy. Also when is the necromancer coming back? He was funny!
@@calebleach7988 i have a PC named after Nixie who is part of the adventurers guild. She is half shadarkai. Everyone 's favorite NPC is the bbeg unless they can change her with their travels then i have an even better one she would help them defeat. 🥰 Let's see how it goes 😅
I'd say Meat Shoeld deserves the XP from this encounter. They beat the Beholder.
Definetely 🤣 10k xp /4 =2500 xp that’ll bump him straight into lv 3, but since this is a homebrew beholder I’ll throw in the extra 200, so let’s go lv 4! P:
@@ouroboros_1355 Hey now! That was a solid 3 hours of role-playing there, a little appreciation would be more appropriate. 😉
They were definitely involved in the combat and deserve an equal share.
Dm playing with his minis is such a mood
Still waiting for the cat to knock minis around to be considered a monster.
I thought that was normal
So of us have MAXI's.....sniff
DM has finally lost it. That is what happens when you have a party like this on a regular basis.
Ah yes, clearly the bureaucracy is in the eye of the beholder.
the *eyes* of the beholder
There's a darn lot more than just one
is that why they named it "beholder", for that pun? never occurred to me.
Meat Shield, I'm in love with this little NPC...keep him as a recurring character
Sidekick Warrior or Expert ?
Or the secret big bad of the campaign( that’s honestly what I thought kendell was gonna say after they all left the room)
@@2chaskell never trust a bureaucrat
@@Mark-ki7ic indeed, i would rather deal with a beholder
They really nailed the time when we accidentally put two npcs to talk and the Dm has to talk to himself for 15 minutes
Personally every so often I enjoy having my Rogue Paladin play at being with OSHA/HR.
People aren't really sure what to do when he starts citing issues and issuing fines. Or when he starts questioning the BBEG's underlings to see if they're treated well or not.
It's honestly gotten him out of at least 1 bad situation.
OSHA was a minor Dwarven diety of safety in manufacturing and Abjuration in my campaign.
The more I watch these, the more I'm convinced this group of adventurers may be the greatest threat to the world.
Also, I think that's the first time I've seen Antrius use a weapon.
They’ve all levelled up! New outfits, kit, etc!
But the big eye is the Anti-magic eye, it is the little eyes that get ya. The safest place when discussing zoning violations with a beholder is right below it, or right in the area affect of the main eye where the little eyes can't hurt you. Beholders like vertical tunnels, without safety features, stairs, ladders, ramps or other means of access. That is a serious violation of Code 4B.
Don't forget the fines for the violations of the Adventurers with Disabilities Act! The ADA doesn't fool around!
The halfling has a magic pacemaker. That is why the central eye could harm him.
half expected the Beholder to be offered a job in city planning. I mean according to the new rules, they are not just evil monsters anymore they could be a beaurocrat or maybe even hold office in city government!!!!
Wouldn't they still be evil? I mean, it wouldn't even change their alignment lol
@@HallowedKeeper_ You know what they say!
Liberals are simply Chaotic Neutral Bards, whereas Conservatives are Lawful Evil Paladins. 😛
The Lawful-Chaotic Goods are too busy doing good to identify as either.
The Order of the Stick befriended a Beholder recently and he is the nicest Beholder ever.
@@HallowedKeeper_Most Beholder types aren't even evil. They are just so paranoid they will kill most adventurers entering their layer. But there is a subtype that specifically contracts with wizards to guard stuff even. They can be bargained with.
A beholder being worried about city ordinances has the same energy of Joker being afraid of the IRS.
A beholder with a monocle! LOL! Why didn't I think of that?
The birth of a DMPC.
1st Level bureaucrat class abilities:
Review Paperwork: Detect inconsistencies in information provided to the player.
Detect Minor Violation: Your character can immediately detect any terrain or activity that could result in a poor audit result.
This is definitely in that Aquisitions Incorporated book 😆
Lmao
They gave him an opportunity for character growth
The Beholder must have failed its In-Sight check.
In the last vampire the masquerade campaign I used an Npc Vampire who I played like an old but rather weak guy.Now my players thread him like he is their granddad and moral booster. It is going to be funny when they realise he is not just a old Vamp who is living and working with em but ether a vampire from the Roman Empire or even a third generation Vamp
The only reason why he seems weak to them is that he's too busy shaking his head, saying "Kids these days..." 🧓
@@shoeberrypie Essentially just that. After the last season my players know now that he is pretty powerful after a werewolf got rather civil with my players, after they fucket up big way and originally just called him to extract them by car after one of my players taught him how to drive. Just that he didn't extract them but walked to the angry werewolf and spoke with him in a calm and friendly manner and showed him a bit of his power.
On a secondary note, I can see next session the players arrive to discover that the NPC is now a max level brute due to some side adventures with the GM :-)
this video has me reflecting on the way I treat the NPCs in our game...perhaps I should show non-player characters with kindness and friendship, and not treat them as meat shields....nah
Being the bleeding heart dad that I am, I have a compulsion to adopt and/or save every sad NPC the DM throws in. The DM is my adult daughter, and she is pretty good at rolling with it. It's makes it interesting! (What? I wasn't supposed to adopt the fortune telling homeless hag down by the docks?)
@@MikeLinPA You are ABSOLUTELY supposed to adopt the fortune telling homeless hag down by the docks!
You get a Diviner 24/7, who doesn't suffer from homesickness! Just remember to cover her for room and board; maybe she'll identify your items for you. :D
@@shoeberrypie Thank you. I really needed this ear to ear shit-eating grin right now!
We need more of Glenden Mossrock! He rocked it! (Until his party screwed it up. At least Atrios was supportive.)
This is why I ensure all my lairs are grandfathered in to any future planning ordinances, and that all my extra-planar staff have the correct residency visa's.
Something similar happened, in our campaign-
I'm a new DM and went in without a plan and very few players. So, I introduced a mute NPC that's a mercenary, to help nudge the party along, in their bounty quest
At first, my plan was to use her to nudge the characters along and introduce characters to elements of the world. It soon turned into one character trying to figure out her secret, and "I can fix her"
The look on Antrius' face when Evandra suggested using their new friend as a meat shield again was priceless.
Looks like the DM is playing with himself. He IS lonely.
I screamed when I saw the beholder! It's so cool to see how the production quality has been able to grow since it's still-very-impressive beginnings.
Eloquent and intelligent bad guys are the absolute best.
Was the beholder even the bad guy here? He was just defending his home, and he even made an effort to comply with all city code and zoning laws like a model citizen.
He really only became violent once it was apparent that his home had been invaded by a gang of violent criminals who were planning to rob and murder him. If anything, the beholder was a victim here.
#beholderlivesmatter
Yeah, you have to love when the table abuses the NPCs you created. My table took one of the throwaway NPCs and used them to gain access to an area they should not have had access to as town guards. Since I had to build the competing party for the town, I just made that NPC the leader of that party.
I've never once mistreated an innocent NPC. I'd have given him a reward for helping us out.
I think he had an XP
I'm sure you've never mistreated an innocent NPC. Now, the question is, since all the NPCs are played by the DM, are any of them innocent?
@@Kineth1 I try to disconnect the art from the artist when it comes to fictional characters.
I mean, they literally avenged his death, brought him back to life, and then gave him credit for taking out a friggin' campaign-level monster. I feel like he can make a lot of money with his fisting services with that rep.
"I'm going to be alone forever"
"Sounds like you need a waifu. Good thing we're sponsored by Genshin Impact"
I did NOT expect an ad to be so tongue-in-cheek LOL
I can’t get over how good the costumes, makeup, acting, and effects are Every damn episode.
Watch out for your butts! The halfling's going to fist everyone.
Oh sweetie, how optimistic that you think that's the hole he's going to fist!😈
😂 that was my fav too.
This sort of thing happened too often in my campaigns! XD
We would be short on players, so I as DM would bring a spare character to round out the party.
And then, with all the NPCs, monsters, and DM-controlled players it would start to feel like I was playing the game by myself with the rest of the group just there to watch.😆
Love the touch in detail!
You can see Antrius huge hand and vial, compared to the Halfling but in reality, the vial ended up being like a very small potion (probably cure light). 😁😍
Imagining the halfling meat shield being really tanky when next he adventures with the group. A simple glamour spell to hide his epic loot and make him look like a noob. All the while he has set aside cunning and devious traps and has become the next small-bbeg using his various planning history to ensnare them…
monk/rogue
Renaming "Tavern Brawler Feat" to "Fister Feat" in my campaign in 3, 2, 1.
Ah yes. The lovable NPC the party loves!!!
As a City Planner, I got more chuckles out of this than perhaps I should. Thanks for the great entertainment!
I was hoping for the beholder to have a change of heart and join the city planner since they already know zoning laws so well
Now, because of your “GI” promotional, I find myself wanting a Nixie, body pillow.
When the DM finally gets a chance to add some NPC dialogue in a party of murderhobos
"Sounds like you need a waifu" is the most depressing thing I've ever heard.
As a DM since 1977 I felt this!🤣
Really hope they don't kill off this little guy I like his character.
My old DM let our party do this with a goblin that we spared. We all grew rather fond of the goblin and it even gave it's own life to save us from a TPK RIP, Snerg 🙏
"Anyways, you need [meat shields] of intelligence on this sort of... mission... quest... thing." --- 🥩🛡
Something I realized about Beholders and like sharing because its funny seeing the varying reactions I get: A beholder has a mouth and eats conventionally but does NOT have a butt hole nor poo conventionally but it DOES have eyebeams of various types, kinda like poo.
That's right *every time a Beholder hits you with its eye beams it is LITERALLY SHITING ON YOU!*
I really like the detail of the giant hand holding a big bottle actually being the bard's hand and a tiny vial.
High action city planning rule lawyering, I like it. 👍🏻
"Dear sir and/or madam" a true ally indeed 😂
Well, Beholders ARE asexual 😂
I like to think of them settling into whichever energy suits them, the way that Hutts in Star Wars do
Thanks to Genshin Impact for sponsoring this video! Check out the game here: www.inflcr.co/SHCuZ ✨
They've asked us in the past if we'd ever consider making skits for them like what we did for AFK Arena or Lord of the Rings, and tbh it sounds kind of fun... Let us know if this is something you'd be interested in!
Yes please
only if any of you guys actually play the game
Omg! Of course! 😍😍😍😍😍
Oh yes, 100% yes!
Genshin Impact is at least a little less of an abusive game, than AFK Arena, but I feel like you might want to look deeper into the things you are advertising for, since they can have devestating impact on certain groups of players. These players, so called Whales are more receptive to the abusive monetary concept of games like AFK arena, they pay great amounts of money, often without being in full controll of doing so (it has some similarities to gambling addictions, it is but a differents matter).
Those games also have many types of ingame currencies, in order to confuse the players, who buy into the game, to either buy too much or too few.
As a part of the last point the buyable Items, for real life currency in these games are priced in a way, that the player always buys more currency, than they need, prompting them to buying again, so they can get rid of the currency, that they already have.
Genshin Impact falls in that category of abusive games, the big difference to games like AFK arena is just, that it actually has gameplay. Its system of acquiring Charakters (a Gacha system) is in no means better than AFK arena and fishing for whales.
I hope my comment doesnt feel too negative to you, your videos are great and I understand, that you have to get paid and that the developers of these games pay very well.

1 for all body pillow please. I need more Nixie in my life.
Glendon Mossrock is the breakout character of the year! Love it.
I would have made him the secret BBEG. With an army of every one of their meatshields over the years.
I would die for Glendall Mossrock.
Wait, does worker compensation benefits come with this job? Oh, hello big hungry monster.
Best beholder encounter I've ever had in D&D was a scenario with a deranged beholder performing in a circus as the main attraction. It had split personalities with different names that were both tricked into thinking the audience was there to worship it. The ring leader would have each half of the audience cheer a different name so that the beholder would start arguing with itself about which one was better. Then he'd convince it to compete with itself by demonstrating it's abilities to impress it's 'worshippers'. It ended in a boss battle in a crowded theatre full of panicking civilians because it went on a rampage after someone in the audience threw food at it.
What if scenario: the NPC actually slays the Beholder and keeps all the loot to himself.
Our murderhobos are evolving. I hope the DM actually becomes a permanent part of their team through that NPC dude. :D
The content you guys are putting out is really superb! The production value is surprisingly good, and the content is engaging and very funny! Also, Glendon the halfling really looks like Billy Boyd's Pippin!
That's why you keep your DM from roleplaying npc's for to long. Keep them in despair and sad over the railroading you do...
im gonna be sad when this show ends. I wish one day we could get like a 30 min or hour special. That would be sick
3:31 Murder-Death-Kill love that Demolition Man reference!
I think they were all just stunned at the NPC surviving for so long they forgot to act before he was killed. like the firefly line: "that there was exactly the kind of distraction we could have used."
I could be mistaken, but I think this is one of the only times we've ever seen Antrius draw a sword throughout this series.
Also, it would be so awesome if we got to see the return of Glendall and he's become a formidable adventurer.
A video with the main trio considering multi-classing would be pretty funny as well.
Love these. Script idea. Other people run as dm, but they all suck. Except nixie. And dm has to wrest control back. Could be a great mini arc
Playing Runequest, I picked up a Trollkin that we figured was called "Don't eat me", cause that's all the little bugger said for a month. We built him up into a hard little bastard, then got him the ideal job, running the city Night Watch, where it is always useful to have a really grateful pal.
6:30 Antrius would totally buy a bodypillow of Antrius.
And he can sustain more damage after the third breakfast.
This ran, beat for beat, pretty similarly to a game I ran for my niece and nephew. It’s funny how quickly players can begin to care for a lucky NPC.
This is why you don't let the gm rp with npcs and other npcs
Seeing as the guy got downed by an anti-magic ray, there must be more to him than meets the eye... hmm
Oh no, Kendall's lost he...Not cause he's talking to minis like people, that's normal. But he's a DM who thinks he'll get to play D&D with his minis. Everybody knows once a DM, always a DM.
Yes please, I DO WANT a real One for All body pillow. Seriusly guys, you shouldn't let this busyness opportunity just slip away, it's a serius market gap you could fill.
I never realized before how much beholders resemble The Funk.
ffs i never expected to see this.
this has kinda happened to a campaign i was in. we had a trader npc who acted like a laywer and conviced a dragon lich to go to sleep for 5k years
I can totally understand why Antrius likes him. This little guy is my favourite NPC from this channel.
I love the continuity details with the big and small flask
This npc came out adorable. And so little. What a good job.
The amount of nixie body pillows that you would sell would make so much cash its crazy not to give it a go
Give that halfling a few levels in monk for making that beholder catch some hands.
I will admit I (as the dm) have used npcs to do things that may or may not have killed the players if they tried. Such as crossing a single rope bridge with armor on.
Perfect episode, guys! Can't wait for the next one!
This one was so much fun to watch. Thank you
My PC's worked with a slightly mad NPC divination archmage in combating and defeating a lich, and said archmage also used the PC's to enable him to become a lich himself in the process. Now they're buddies and Shinji the divination lich is practically their patron.
Beholders are highly underrated, underappreciated, and underutilized.
