Yes, I bet my boxers Ben can make it in Holywood and I'd pay to watch him. I like all the guys from VLDL but ben really has it all somehow for a holywood action hero.
I would love a follow up with the "Adventurer", that since HE did not completed and received the reward for the quest, it is bugged and he is unable to fast travel ever again
Wow. That was an incredible half-hour story. Thanks, Alan for writing it, Adam and Alan for directing it. Too many to name, but the stunt crew and choreograher, just the right balance of flash and substance in the fights. Supporting cast, you keep the magic alive throughout. Makeup and costumes, cinematographers, production folk, sound folk, editing folk, the entire back office and support … take a bow, please. Three years later, your efforts are not lost on me. Ever. Ben, you’re just a wonderful talent. Phoenix, you carried a load with grace and gravity. And Rowan. My heart-warmed, standing applause. Thanks, VLDL. My imagination is afire.
Rowan is a great actor. Not many people could have enough intent in their intonations to go through such range of emotions and character development with a single line of dialogue.
Isn't it funny that VLDL's budge was not even 1/135th the amount of things like Lord of the Rings but they managed to produce a much enjoyable film that was a quarter the length? It goes to show you, that audiences don't care about fancy CGI; we care about great acting, beautiful shots and a great story.

An absolute masterpiece. This is literally the best piece of content of any kind I have seen in 2021. It’s so unique, and it hits the target audience and also others who don’t play video games. I’m absolutely blown away by this short film
These videos are becoming a class of their own. I mean.. holiwood typically just rinse and repeat the same old movies /themes /garbage.. but this is actually something new /different. The most major part of the film is the storyline.. and they did pretty good on that.
Rowan was brilliant, you could see on his face the way Baelin was truly torn between following his NPC path and helping the princess. Better than any Hollywood "Blockbuster" I've seen in a while. Thanks Viva La Dirt League.
@@arturograssi7413 Amazon Lord of the Rings is horrible beyond words. Production, story and captivation of Baelin's Route was better in any way. Especially when it comes to being immersive and you actually are pulled in to the story.
This right here proves that storytelling isn't about dialogue, it is about the story, the characters, and the world. This 33min short had more heart and better story then some feature length movies.
Including the one I stopped watching (just could not stomach one more minute of it) right before I came here! This was like a breath of fresh air. It's a good day for fishing! (and I don't even like fishing)
That fighting scene with the orcs is so freaking awesome. Better than Hollywood movies. No operator with epilepsy, no darkness or smoke that blocks the camera, no thousand frame cuts in two seconds
Not to mention the choreography was good too. There wasn't like 7 guys standing back as 1 guy did the fight. There were times were 2 or even 3 of them went into the fight, it was great!
I’ve never been so emotionally attached to a character 5 minutes into their story, let alone them only repeating the same 3 lines. Even Hodor didn’t enthrall me so much.
@R.Y.G wdym by you thought that it would be a political fantasy drama, but lacks logic? And i think the story is fine until like season 4 or 5 (can't remember) My example for something that is way overrated is definitely Squid Game, sure it's ok, but it gets really boring real quick My point is i don't think that GoT is *way* overrated :)
What the actual hell is this magic?! All I can say is wow. You did an amazing job, one of the best independent productions I have seen on UA-cam in the past decade. Absolutely stunning work
@@wormyish To be fair, it's revealed you can't fast travel and are forced along a specific path because he started a cinematic story sidequest. The fact that he started one without having the attention-span to actually understand that going in is his own fault for not paying attention to his UI.
And then, at the very end, the Adventurer that started the whole thing randomly gets the "quest complete" notification when he's in the middle of something completely different.
I finally watched this after it kept popping up in my feed. After binge watching most of your other videos that poke fun at the tropes and logic of rpg games, I figured it'd be a longer version of those videos. I was not expecting myself to get so invested in this very unique story, even tearing up at the end. You guys put so much effort and heart into this, and nailed it so much better than big budget Hollywood studios. You found a way to still poke fun, while making this a love letter to rpg games. Studios should watch this, and take notes (I'm looking at you, Netflix's The Witcher.)
This was great. The choreography was very well done and so were the special effects. Acting was very good and the scenery is just amazing. You guys have really outdone yourselves with this.
It is a great role reversal to have the player, the supposed hero of the story, actually be the villain (twice in fact, if you count the actor as the final boss).
I killed so many NPC's in the Fallout games that it would break the MAIN quest lines, let alone all the optional ones. Only people I kept alive were the slavers, so I had somebody to sell people to. Ate everybody else (Fallout 3 and after).
What a message, I actually saw that too. Reminds me of the saying, Life is about the Journey not the destination. Yeah...Bealin's Route is perfect for showing that.
I'm not so sure, probably just really high level because the big bad managed to hit and push him back at the end there. With that in mind though, I wonder if Ben could've even completed the quest? If he could hardly handle a group of bandits then......
Im pretty sure hes a reused asset from the alpha version of the game, he was an essential npc back then , now hes just baelin the fisherman(essential).
He was an adventure who completed all the quests and lores. He then stopped adventuring and became a fisherman for good. Then the calamity strikes that made the all the people do the same thing everyday except for the adventures (players)
I feel like I committed a crime watching this and not paying for an admission. This should’ve been in movie theaters not UA-cam. Absolutely incredible work guys, a true masterpiece.
In Ultima Online there are certain invincible NPCs - like shopkeepers and quest npcs. Back in the day you could lure monsters on them, took a while but they killed them for you and you got the loot. Willow is obviously the type of quest NPC with a healthbar from an escort quest
@@mastermerion That must be what happened here, because I was confused about the behavior of the npc. Only one thing though, how was he able to go off route? where is that game mechanic?
@@indigochild161 because maybe baelin is "recruited", so his code change to "follow player"? the reason the princess cannot walk off the route because she is not "recruited", so she still have the basic code.
I would argue that after being recruited Baelin was in party protection mode. When the player attacked the party, he was forced to defend. But after doing this, the party was not disbanded, so the quest continued.
I think that's kind of the point.but it is shown very early an after this the battles only get tension by endangering the princess. It should somehow be made clear he looses his essential status the moment he crosses from NPC to adventurer.
Remember when they were making fun of him by placing a bucket on his path and pulling his pants down? But then they would attack him and he obliterated the adventurers... Well, he's broken, as is nearly everything in Skycraft. XD
Adding my voice to everyone saying that the production quality of this short film is higher than most Hollywood films with a fraction of their budget. Everything about this is a masterpiece. I applaud the whole VLDL team and everyone who helped make this possible. I hope you all make many more videos like these, and I would definitely support you all if you do feature-length films that get shown in theaters as well. Seriously, this and all of your other videos as well are all so amazing, I just can't say enough good things. Please never stop making videos!! ❤❤❤❤
No! As the story progresses, so does he. He goes from not straying off the path or showing initiative to taking out a thief and walking up an undeveloped hillside. And it was his caring about the Princess that got him there.

It's at the point where the adventurer is about to kill her because she "dare not stray from the path" that Baelin makes a conscious decision to stray from his and take over the role of the reluctant protagonist. And it ends with him gaining the ability to chose his actions by what he sees as right and wrong without simply barreling down the same route everyday like a robot, oblivious to what is happening to those around him.
That was a masterpiece.

@@indigochild161 maybe he is a tom bombadil of the NPCs of this game, just hidden.
A clear remainder that both Adam and Alan are actual directors, and Rowan a model
Alan wrote and directed all this while including 5 seconds of himself. Very nice of him!
Rowan is a model?
Because he looks like a model...
They... They are?
@@justabro4921 Yeah I remember that one ad in Times Square. Who wouldn't know that, right?
Rowan was in an episode of Spartacus in case you guys didn't know that...
Baelin is indestructible cause he's marked as an essential npc
I think that's kind of the point.but it is shown very early an after this the battles only get tension by endangering the princess. It should somehow be made clear he looses his essential status the moment he crosses from NPC to adventurer.
@@zeugenberg or maybe he was an adenturer all along, a player roleplaying as a fisherman with a funny dialogue
Remember when they were making fun of him by placing a bucket on his path and pulling his pants down? But then they would attack him and he obliterated the adventurers...
Well, he's broken, as is nearly everything in Skycraft. XD
@@maxturra must be an admin
Don't forget he is secretly also the city guard in disguise...... and, well........... someone kicked his chicken! 🐔🦶😱
For the princess it was the most impactful day of her life, for Baelin it was a Tuesday.
And yet, the princess will reset to her bandit camp. Because baelin is not an adventurer, and the world isn't instanced for him.
No! As the story progresses, so does he. He goes from not straying off the path or showing initiative to taking out a thief and walking up an undeveloped hillside. And it was his caring about the Princess that got him there.
For Baelin it was a fishing day :D
Wrong. For Baelin, it was a nice day for fishing.
@@raibyo haha!
Turns out Baelin was the Epic NPC Man all along.
Duh duh DAHN!!!!!!!
