      Doesn’t image quality drops down due to no ibis in R10

    • @scopeway

      @@chessmagic5300 Image stabilization, as discussed in Chapter 4, “Lens Features,” allows you to hand hold pictures with slower shutter speeds. Many Sony, Olympus, and Pentax have it built into the body. Other manufacturers put it into the lenses. Having stabilization built into the body, known as In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), has no benefit for users who use only kit lenses. Since all manufacturers offer image stabilization with their kit lenses, your results will be similar. However, IBIS has massive benefits to those of us who use fast prime lenses in low-light conditions. Many photographers can get sharp hand-held pictures with a 50mm lens at 1/ 10th of a second.

    About the camera defaulting back to 1080p after turning off slow-motion: The R6 also does that. It is extremely annoying when it you switch back, shoot a clip and realize it's only 1080p instead of 4K, especially so if it's something you cannot repeat.

    • @simonmaduxx6777
      @simonmaduxx6777 2 роки тому +10

      It's only worth the premium if you're interested in a bigger crop camera. After using a full frame for so many years a big crop camera just doesn't make sense. To me at least, but I absolutely need a small camera for my walk arounds for landscape and for random portraits. So I've been tracking this camera pretty closely, because For the Love of All That's holy I cannot wholeheartedly trust the AF on my third m62. I had no such issues with my m1, and an M50 is well tailored for landscapes instead of people do to the ridiculous noisy sensor. But at least the AF is more or less trustworthy. If you can't trust the AF the camera is almost garbage. So that's what I'm looking at this camera for I need AF stability like I used to have with my rebels and the M1.

      Shot kids sports with the 55-200 with razor sharp images. Extremely pleased with it and the autofocus was brilliant. Canon autofocus is best in the business and for all but professionals, the M50 mk ii autofocus is brilliant.
      The R10 is nice and is almost perfect were it not that it's not weatherproof. But it's still noticeably bigger than the M50 and that is why for me, I'll be holding onto the M50. And the discussion about lenses is pointless to me. I have 12 lenses (8 EF-M and 4 EF Canon lenses) and am covered between my primes and zooms.

    I think the camera is great and the viewfinder is very easy to see and clear, even for people who wear glasses. You can also see the corners of the image very well. Especially if you use viewfinder mode 2 with the displays outside the viewfinder field. In any case, a little better than with the RP. As a person who wears glasses, i am often annoyed by viewfinders that are difficult to see like Fuji X-S10 and X-E4.

    I have had my R10 and 18-150 since August 1st. Previously used a Canon Eos M50 and ef-m 18-150. Initially I was going to have an R7, but I really couldn't get on with the grip, far to uncomfortable for my liking. Anyway I have found the R10 to be a great upgrade over the M50. Better handling, better battery life, the evf is better (to my eyes at least). AF is very impressive, photographing trains with vehicle detect af and servo works a treat and I can rely on it, faster, more responsive from shot to shot than the M50. Image quality to my eyes is better than the M50 at higher iso. I also would say the Rf 18-150 is better optically than the ef-m version, I don't see anywhere near as much c/a in the rf lens. Plus the rf lens focuses closer, especially at the wide end when switched to mf. It is certainly an enjoyable camera to use. I have used it with a sigma 105f2.8 macro and a canon 70-300 is ii via the canon adapter. These lenses work great. The animal detect was very good indeed. The only thing I have tried on video is the option in 1080 to select the upto 10x zoom. I was quite pleased with this being on there, haven't seen it on a canon since the 70d I had. That will be great for catching distant wildlife moments. Currently only tried it on the moon. Which I was quite impressed with. So all in all I think it is great value for money camera. I have not been disappointed and In some respects my expectations have been exceeded. If anyone would like to take a look at the video of the moon and 10x zoom it's here ua-cam.com/video/JfaibVCLrYQ/v-deo.html Also if you would like to see pictures from it, I have an album on my flickr for the R10 pics here flic.kr/s/aHBqjA2S3P . @@SuicidalSummerSnowWoman if you have shaky hands you need IBIS. The video already mentioned the alternative - X-S10. The cheapest option for getting IBIS I know of is a used X-H1, which goes for as little as $500-600 these days - it's a heavier pro-level camera but if that doesn't bother you it's a lot cheaper than the R7, albeit with last-generation autofocus. If you absolutely must have animal and planes, trains, automobiles autofocus, you're stuck with shelling out the extra money for an R7 or waiting until the next generation improvements come out for other systems like Sony or Fujifilm - the latest AF from the X-H2S will probably take another year or so to trickle down to the mid range.

    Compared to the Nikon and Canon (I don’t know about Sony), Fuji has a larger collection of lenses to choose from. A discussion point when comparing with the Z50, but not mentioned with the XS-10. What is know considered to be entry level are all very capable cameras, and the gap to the mid level models is quite small. Maybe it is fair to conclude that the entry level is being phased out (competition from the phone cameras) and that dedicated photo and video capable cameras are pretty well specked.

      Fujifilm does have 35 prime and zoom lenses alltogether, i wrote serveral days before here under another video, plus 2 teleconverters, not counting serveral 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tamron & Viltrox. If you want the biggest, most complete APS-C lenses lineup into the business, Fujifilm is the way to go.
      Thing is, that the new APS-C entry level seems to be starting into 2022 at ca. 799 EUR (Z-50, body only) or even 949 EUR (X-E4, without lens) and the EOS R10 is 979 EUR w/o lens, the X-S10 is currently 1049 EUR, and even the X100V got a price bump from ordinary 1399 EUR to now 1599 EUR, so a full 200 EUR more than ever before, and since release into 2020.
      Into contrast, the EOS RP with the slightly inferior, slow kitlens could being had for just a week for 899 EUR with the 24-105 STM together as kit. The new X-H2s seems to be way fast, and a capable camera, for those who need the speed and it's video features. And for the MP lovers, the X-H2 comes out way soon with 40 MP via APS-C.
      It's fair enough to say, that if one doesn't need all the speed, and latest features, you can still have lot of fun enjoying photography with much older generations, because it's good enough.
      Into 2022 - there's enough for anyone, to pick up the matching camera. From a 10-20 buck Film SLR with matching nifty fifty, to the latest high end gear for serveral grand, it all depends, what you want to spent, what you need most. etc.
      Greetings

    I am committed to the Canon M platform. But I see Canon making some of the same mistakes already with their APS-C R platform. A smaller rangefinder style camera is coming, but that seems to be years away. Same for super premium native glass. It's too late now, but I regret not choosing FujiFilm X. The XT-4 is way more than I ever need, but man, what a camera and system. To those who haven't committed to a mirrorless platform yet, I strongly recommend they hold a Fujifilm camera first.

      I too am all in on the M50 mk ii. I've bought all but the 18-150 EF-M lenses, the Sigma lenses and some quality EF lenses with adapter. For me, it's more than enough camera. I shoot sports, motorsports, car shows and family shots and for that it's golden.
      From all reviews, Fuji autofocus seems to suck and for my style of photography that's terrible. In fact, in general I think having a solid autofocus is critical.
      There really isn't a lens I feel I am missing to be honest. I shoot mainly primes but when I need a zoom I have that more than covered.
      The M50 is alot of camera for the money and the EF-M/EF lenses (2nd hand) are much cheaper than Fuji lenses and better quality from what I've seen.
      I see the appeal with Fujifilm with their larger lens selection but if you have an M50 and you're a hobbyist/enthusiast, it can take you a long way

    The biggest problem with this video is that by incorrectly labeling this camera as an "entry-level camera" you offered advice to people looking for a first camera. Officially Canon has said that their main target audience for this camera are Canon users looking to upgrade from their DSLR cameras (that is why they are offering a free ef-rf adaptor). Unfortunately, you completely ignored this large segment of the buying audience. I have an M6II and an 80D with ef-s lenses. This ^^^ a lot of people in the comments don’t get that. “The R7 is better!!”. Well no shit, it’s $1500 for just the body alone, while the R10 is $1000 with the lens included. So of course the R7 is going to be better in many ways. For $1000, you’re getting almost everything in an R7, but with a crop sensor and some other differences. The R10 is def not entry level. I had the M50 Mark 2, and even that’s slightly higher than “entry level” at $500. I’m blessed to be able to afford an R10, but it’s def not even close to entry level. You can get a used T series for like $300 in my area. that’s truly entry level! $500+ is not. Especially, when you factor in a lens into the R10 price 🤣🤣 it shoots it up to an R7 setup. those RT lenses can go up to $2K easily!!

    Everybody comments that the lack of apsc lenses for both canon and nikon is not really a problem because one can adapt older or more modern full frame lenses. • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 2 роки тому

      Not to mention it change the focal length of those lenses. Your 40mm lens becomes closer to a 60mm lens, your 85mm lens becomes closer to a 130mm lens. Full frame lenses can also be softer on smaller bodies, because you're literally creating about the same sized picture from a smaller area of the lens. On top of all that, with these smaller lighter bodies, you end up with a front heavy camera if you use typical or larger adapted lenses, especially since that weight is extended from the body by an adapter. There's also a plethora of other issues, like distortion correction. While full frame lenses can be used on APSC bodies, they're not optically designed to be their best on APSC bodies. Most lenses are optically designed for 30MP or less. But when you shrink down the area you're taking an image from, it's like shooting 100MP full frame on a cheap lens....you're going to have tons of softness when you zoom in. And then when you need to crop, that softness is going to be exhibited even more. When you try to sharpen an already soft photo, you get all kinds of nastiness because it can't adequately isolate sharp details from blurry details, so even with a masking slider, you're still going to end up sharping tons of out of focus details that you don't want to.

    Much as the R10 seems to be a great camera, it’s still too large for what I want, and the EOS R lens line is still missing an inexpensive, fast, wide angle prime. When Canon makes an EOS R50 to replace the EOS M50 and an RF 22 mm f/2.0 STM to replace the EF 22 mm f/2.0 STM, for less than $900 USD for the pair, they are going to sell a lot of them.

      I wouldn't even consider a DSLR. I bought a mint condition 7D Mk II for nostalgia and fun (and it certainly is fun to use) but it doesn't come close to even an entry-level M50 in terms of AF tracking. The RP and M6 Mk II kill it, and the 7D Mk II has vastly superior AF to the 80D, 90D, D7200 etc. DSLRs are a total waste of time for anyone starting out today.

    I think that for those torn between the X-S10 and the EOS R10 and looking to shoot video it should be noted that while the X-S10 does have more frame rate options (up to 240fps), it doesn’t offer 4k above 30fps, while the EOS R10 does (4k up to 60fps and full HD up to 120fps which isn’t bad either). X-S10 also has a maximum recording time of about 30 minutes while the EOS R10 stops at 2 hours, so that’s definitely something to consider

  • @coder543
    @coder543 2 роки тому +30

    The EOS M50 Mark II is smaller, lighter, cheaper, and has arguably better, more affordable lenses. I wish you would have talked about where the R10 fits into Canon's overall lineup, but you've also never tested the M50 Mark II on this channel. The R10 has access to all of Canon's RF glass, but if you're buying a multi-thousand-dollar lens for an R10... you should have just bought an R6 or RP or something else, since that lens is going to be huge and heavy and its potential isn't fully realized due to the lack of a full frame sensor. Right now, Canon has ported two of their EF-M lenses to RF for the R10 and the R7 cameras, but one of the two actually has worse specs than the original EF-M lens had, and those were not the most stellar EF-M lenses in the first place.
    Canon has said that the EF-M platform isn't dead yet, so their lineup is a bit confusing, but I think EF-M is better at being an APS-C camera, and the lens selection is perfectly reasonable on that platform these days. Whether Canon continues developing lots of new lenses or not is mostly irrelevant to the person who has their needs met now, and there are third party lenses on the mount these days.
    The R10's main advantage over the M50 Mark II is in video capabilities, but this video demonstrates the focus wandering off even in a static shot with a clear subject, and Chris reported switching to manual focus... so if video on a budget is what you're after, Canon may not be the way to go.
    I enjoy my Sony A7IV, but the M50 Mark II seems like a very well-rounded budget camera option for a lot of people. I don't understand where the R7 and the R10 are supposed to fit into Canon's lineup, and if Canon releases an M50 Mark III, it will likely be an even more obvious choice over them.

      To answer your question. canon R7 and R10 sre to fit in their R mount systems. Of cause canon is killing the M but they are not going to announce it. And the M50 mrkii DON"T do 4k 60p, 15 FPS, The Af is not on par to R system with animal Face detection. The M50 markii is just a repackage of mark 1 with upgraded software which canon can easily put it in the firmware. I don't see canon coming out with Anymore M mount. I hope I'm wrong.

      The R10 and R7 obviously have bad firmware when it comes to video AF - Canon cameras have performed much, much better than this for over 5 years now. I hope it’ll get fixed soon. As to the RF-S lenses, extra ones are sure to come relatively soon, and then Canon have very solid offerings on RF at the lower end of the spectrum. The 24mm and 35mm f/1.8 are cheaper than those of any first party manufacturer, and well suited for APS bodies as well. The 100-400mm is a killer lens for the price, the 16mm f/2.8 performs quite well in crop mode, and the 600mm and 800mm give you extreme reach for comparative peanuts.

    • @coder543
      @coder543 2 роки тому +2

      @@Ildskalli 35mm f/1.8 is equivalent to 56mm f/2.9 when placed on the R10, and it costs $20 more than the 32mm f/1.4 lens that Canon offers for EF-M, which is equivalent to a 50mm f/2.2, so the EF-M lens is spec’d better, and reviews of its optical quality in practice are phenomenal. The RF lens also weighs 30% more for the privilege of being more expensive and worse on an APS-C body.
      I agree the R10 and R7 have *some* advantages… but not many, and they’re very confusing cameras to exist at all.

    The AF for stills with that 1.6 crop factor for wildlife is the deciding factor for me. A spare battery is a standard part of every camera purchase I've ever made, so that's a given. You've got the best glass on the old EF platform. I'd go for it. 400mm, 500mm, 600mm f4 primes from the EF line are cheeeeap these days. Right now, you can get a 500mm F4 USM II for 1500$ compared to its original price tag of 9000$ seems like a no Brainer. Heck, most pro wildlife photographers are still using ancient manual lenses. And to go even further, there’s a community of people who have created film recipes that can give you amazing SOOC jpegs. The only thing I would say is good about the canon, is autofocus. And funny enough, as you was comparing the canon against the Fuji, canon decided to lose focus. 😂

    • @cooloox

      Canon, Nikon or Sony for me. Nothing special about Fuji colours and who cares about film simulations? I shot film for over 20 years, I have zero interest in my DIGITAL camera emulating film. I prefer the more accurate images coming out of digital cameras. It's so easy to simulate film in post, if that's your thing, but shooting JPEG removes the ability to fully access the dynamic range of your sensor.
      The main 3 brands have superior lenses too, especially for full frame. The Sigma 1.4 trio of lenses introduced to Fuji slightly beat out the existing closest Fuji lenses. You'd change from a 90D to an R7, not to an R10. The R7 kills the 90D in most ways and definitely in terms of sharpness and lower ISO noise. The 4K60 hasn’t shown a temperature indicator even after 15 minutes + outdoors at 20-21 degrees C and the rolling shutter was a big improvement over my previous 200Dii ( 250D/rebel SL3). I liked the focus guide when manual focusing- easy to find infinity focus, and I confirmed it’s accuracy by zooming in 10x. I needed to leave this on as the screen resolution drops to save battery shortly after starting recording ( I believe this can be adjusted/turned off) but it looks out of focus on the low res screen - thankfully the video wasn’t. The whole camera and lens has a very light (plastic) feel to it so be careful handling it.

      As a canon guy who uses full frame and crop, I can tell you that the lens situation is an absolute disaster - if you're not buying L lenses anyway. RF lenses that are not L have a mixture of being uninteresting, slow, optically not that great, or just flat out boring.
      Choices are very very limited, and the mounts are closed so your only choice besides Canon's meager offerings is EF adapter and older third-party glass.
      I just bought one of the sigma trio for efm. The 31.4. it has chromatic aberration problems for sure, but seeing drop dead sharp images at 1.4 is really mind boggling even if it's on crop.

      The entire system is under 3 months old and you complain about the number of lenses.

    Another great review.
    Should the R10 be a good choice to upgrade from my Canon 600D and still be able to use the glass I have?

    What about this vs Canon eos RP?

    Is it just me? It seems like Canon's face detect AF in video mode has taken a few steps back over the years. I used to shoot video with a 70D, then an 80D, then a 90D, then switched to an R, then an RP, then shot with an R5 for a while, and currently with an R6, and my memory may be failing me, but back in the 70-90D days, the face detect was rock solid, and now, depending on the model of camera you get, not so much. This is a basic core competency in my book. If you have a face in focus, don't change what you're focusing on unless the user touches the screen to focus on something else. It's almost like Canon has been really stepping up the video quality specs, but at the cost of less performant AF, whereas back in the day, their video quality wasn't as good as other hybrid cameras, but the dual pixel AF was class leading, at least for face detect in video mode.

    What kind of mic are you using and what microphones would you recommend for this camera, for someone just getting into making videos etc

    Is there any real difference in IQ between this and a Canon M5 or M50?

    I love the fast burst. The only thing I did not like about this...the video is not good in low light compared to Nikon Z50.

    I think if I am in a market for Canon camera at this price point I will have a serious look at Canon RP

    Looks like we finally have a Sony A6400 killer in the market. Would like to see a detailed comparison between the two.

      A6400 is weather sealed, smaller, longer battery live, metal construction and a much better lens lineup though.

    Is this a Worthy Upgrade for me if I am using an Older M6 Mark II ?

    There are no rumors of when and if the successor to the Canon RP mark II will come at all?
