If I had a nickel for each time Mia Goth was in a movie that involves sexual repression and has actors in old folks makeup and is a period piece but also was about relationships with mothers in a farm where dancing is integral to the plot and has spoken German I’d have…3 nickels but BOY am I glad these movies exist
I didn’t expect the breakdown of this movie to be so relatable because I’ve never murdered anyone, but here we are. Performative happiness vs. genuine happiness has me shook ngl.
If anybody out there is still planning on having children.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen more people talking about the dance sequence in Pearl, that perfect exploration of the magic and the life and the joy inside Pearl really made the movie for me
Especially with the juxtaposition of her being vacant and emotionless before she starts dancing, showing just how performative her life has become
Pearl's smile that bleeds into the credits was chilling in so many ways; it communicated so many things at once & was like a summary of the entire film in itself.
One of the reasons I adore films so much (& just fiction in general) is that there's actually nothing wrong with empathizing with a character, especially not if they're written purposefully to be empathized with. I think weird parts of fandom tend to make us feel like we're not allowed to relate to certain characters or even like them because they did The Bad Thing, but... I'm not gonna draw the line at liking a fictional person who killed other fictional people in a fictional story lol

I'm glad Ti West is out there because he is realizing my dream of getting money from a studio and using this money to recreate the 70's low budget horror film and right after, recreate the technicolor golden age aesthetic in a horror film. King

I was on the fence about watching Pearl, but I REALLY need to see this movie after hearing it broken down like that.
On a deeper vibe I binge watched all your content and mostly older videos. In those before you're open transitioning you're adorable...but guarded more in spite of your brilliant analysis and discourse- I adore the way you think and speak. I also want to tell you that the individual you are now..and throughout...is beyond beautiful with such vibrant light and luminously positive and powerful energy...as the real you, comfortable and charismatic being who you truly are outwardly and equally balanced or some captivating and vulnerable but assured type aesthetic. Man Mia Goth deserves so many awards for her performance. When she talks about having a miscarriage and hating her husband and wanting to leave, all of that gave me chills. Misty not saying anything while Pearl talks about being glad for having a miscarriage and murdering other people. Goodness. This movie was amazing.
And when she yells at the Projectionist about abandoning her I was like “lol mood”
And yes, the distressed smile turning into tears as she’s smiling with the music changing just slightly was the most disturbing part of the film. Gave me goosebumps and I loved it.
Agreed. X for me, was going somewhere heinous, but changed it's mind at the end. I like Pearl A LOT more.

Im glad you're taking a NSFL break. It's very necessary. Oh also I'm still reading through Fluids, and even tho I'm not not finished with it, I still appreciate what I've read so far. I feel like it's a great portrayal of how a lot of us tend to get attached too quickly to people who seem good for us at first but only turn out to hurt us in some way in the end. Especially in specific for LGBTQIA individuals. I feel like both Fluids as well as Things Have Gotten Worse since Last we spoke are both excellent examples of showing that struggle that LGBTQIA people face when alot of us end up desperation seeking connection online due to neglect and isolation irl.

Yea I too wasn’t so thrilled abt X but I still feel it was a good movie. Pearl giving more insight into the old woman’s character definitely made me appreciate more aspects abt X but Pearl just in general was 👏🏽. I don’t really have anything bad to say abt it

I believe that the generation that you're describing is most definitely The greatest generation which was the generation right before the baby boomers. The baby boomers were actually the most invested in generation going so far as being called the me generation.
They were most definitely repressed, but there's just the beginning of unpacking a lot of the repression. Then they just got bitter in their old age. He's yeah, like you said, their dreams didn't come true.
