I tried that before buying my new a few years ago. The used car market, particularly trucks, is miserable. They want top dollar for even the shittiest turd of a used truck.
Toyota will not go back to the naturally aspirated V6 or V8 engines. The new CEO announced he wants to only make hybrid engines and phase out ICE engines across the board. The New Toyota CEO and Board Member’s are the problem. I hope all there vehicles Rot on the Lot. American car buyers don’t like when companies force overpriced vehicles onto their loyal customers and do the opposite of what customers actually want to buy. Toyota expects American car and truck enthusiasts will just blindly buy it and shut up. Americans do NOT want all hybrid/turbo engines. We do not want to pay 50K for a midsized base model Mexico built truck or SUV. Toyota needs to feel the pressure of its customers not buying their vehicles. DO NOT BUY THE NEW TOYOTA TRUCKS OR SUV’S.
Nothing wrong with using induction but they need to overbuild things like in the past. Like using frame mounted bump stops. using a dedicated trans intercooler and beefing up the diffs. The reason the shocks are busting into the wheel wells and the diffs are overheating with trans failures is the entire mess is under built. Yota expects the owner to crawl malls and nothing else. They also have real issues with QC from their suppliers. Yota has completely lost their way. Like a restaurant that builds a good reputation over many years and lose all in a matter of weeks if a new owner fails to keep the same quality. Yota will soon see how easy it is to lose their reputation for quality. And its brutal gaining that trust back. Perception is a bitch.
@@HiPlains1 Well, you see, after SAVING all that money by using cheap Mexican labor, they got greedy, and had to save MORE money by skimping on materials too. That's Toyota mathematics these days. I really can’t badmouth the four-cylinder turbo. GM designed the 2.7 turbo max based on using diesel specs to build a super durable motor. It’s been in the Sierra for six years and it’s been in the Colorado now for two years. There are no recalls other than an electronic issue. It’s a super reliable and durable turbo engine. Loving it so far, better than the Toyota, frontier, ranger, Powerful, comfortable and easiest controls vs The others.
The turbo engine is not a deal breaker for me because if there is a car manufacturer that can make a reliable turbo engine, it’s Toyota. The price is the biggest letdown and reason I didn’t buy one. Toyota and Toyota dealers are pricing/marking up midsize trucks to full size truck prices. At the 4th gen Tacoma TRD PRO’s price point just get the 3rd Gen Tundra TRD PRO. That’s what I did.
By downsizing their truck engines, the costs to build it are now far less than what it was, and yet they are selling it for a whole lot more. Customers have caught up with their greed and are now retaliating. Bring back common sense by bringing back the V6 for Tacomas and V8 for the Tundras.
I like your attention to detail. I'm the same way. When I noticed the tailgate on my GMC Yukon SLT was not equally aligned when comparing the left and right side, I became annoyed and asked the dealer about it. I also noticed a very obvious lack of door tension when opening the Left rear door. I brought it up with the service department and they did not offer any logical explanation of why all four of the doors should not feel and sound the same when you pull them open. When I read the window sticker, most of the vehicle was assembled in Mexico. I guess it's just a mexico factory issue.
I’ve been waiting years to buy a new Tacoma truck. I was planning on getting one end of this year or next. Waiting the extra year and they come out with a 4 cylinder that even Tacoma enthusiasts think is not worth the money. What a let down. I’ve spent the last month looking at Nissan, Chevy, and ford midsize. What the hell was Toyota thinking.
I own a 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 Barcelona Red made in Mexico (I bought it brand new) and I love it! I lucked out in being able to buy it (it was covid and there were no new trucks on the lots), I was at the right place at the right time. It's a great truck. No problems with it. It runs great has enough power to go on freeways, and in the city driving. It's my work horse. Best of all it fits in my garage. I can't say enough good things about my Toyota Tacoma. Personally I don't like the little turbo engine "modern" current trend on 2024 and later models. I wish I had bought a Toyota Tacoma years ago.
I was an over twenty-year Toyota truck owner both Tacoma and Tundra and I needed the size when I was young to haul and tow heavy loads. My Wife was always afraid to drive the big trucks at least for a small woman it was big and when I was gone it was an issue. We are 75 years young and felt we needed something she could drive and we don't haul or tow heavy loads. We looked at the new Tacomas first then we looked and drove everything else in mid-size pickup and the Ridgeline she just loved since it drove like a car. We bought the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition and so far love it. I was one of those guys that always put down the "toy trucks" but now I am a believer at the stage of my life. I always thought the tailgate opening was a gimmick but it is one of the best features and we use it more than the other drop down opening. Toyota has gotten arrogant and complacent with their customers and this is more proof if you ever needed any. IMHO
Regarding the tailgate alignment, their tailgates actually have a little bit of end play built into them so they can move from side to side just a little bit as the bed flexes. I imagine all trucks do this. You can actually grab the tail gate and move it back and fourth a few 32nds of an inch.
All good points minus the turbo 4cly bits. You guys are acting like NA V6 is a V8. I know Toyota has a lot of you about a decade behind the rest of the world for tech and performance, but time to move on. The only V6 that matters is one that comes with twin turbos. These new turbo 4s are built for boost and torque. They aren't NA 4-cylinders with turbo strapped on as an afterthought. The old V6's reliability wasn't because Toyota made it bulletproof, but because it was so underwhelming in performance, you could probably go 100k miles without oil change. If underwhelming performance is your jam, to each their own. Stay on top of oil changes, and you have the same reliable vehicle, just more capable and fun. But yes, Toyota is out of their mind with the prices as well as packages. They REALLY let you know you didn't opt for the $8800 premium package. Stepping into a $47k Tacoma TRD-Offroad shouldn't give you the same feeling as if you just sat in a "Work Truck" trim, but it does. TRD Off Road with hybrid motor and premium package is $60k. That's Ranger Raptor and ZR2 Bison territory without being anywhere in the realm of their performance.
i got the truck in june and i hooked up a trailer once and now im getting what others call "ghost trailer"bug. the truck thinks im pulling a trailer when im not and all rear sensors do not work . dash also keeps displaying a trailer message that wont go away . the dealership is also charging me almost $300 for diagnosis and $700 just to see if rear bumper needs to be realigned. nothing seems to falls under warranty . truck as been to the dealership service twice now an still no fix
Okay, I’m totally confused here! Test drive ANY fourth generation Tacoma with an open mind and WITHOUT wearing rose colored glasses to see for yourself that this new Tacoma is all hype and not even in the slightest, equal and/or better than the previous generation Toyota Tacoma!😳
This dealership adding AMV is stupidity. If they aren’t selling at sticker prices, they aren’t going to sell marked up. Sorry it’s basic economics about supply and demand.
I can't understand paying $50k for this truck when you could pay the same money for a much more spacious F150 or Silverado. Can't site reliability issues as pickup trucks are the only thing Ford and GM do right. Unless you want the Tacomas manual transmission, there's not much reason to choose the Tacoma over the other options.
My wife’s Mercedes C250 ‘s coolant line and turbo line were cracked at 100k miles, I also had dealer replaced the water pump, $1600 with 10% discount ! I am not complaining but just let you know the turbo need lots of care ! It could still last 200 k miles ! That’s why I bought the last year V6 Tacoma TRD off road, 4x4 ! 😊

Well, for many years most of those Tacomas are assembled in Tecate, MX., so close to the US-Mex international border. The main reason why Toyota built a factory on that location, it’s because the logistics, labor, and production is much cheaper than any location of the Americas. Even though the factory is located and managed by Mexican contractors, Japanese engineers are present there, I tell you truly because I’ve been inside the facility several times.
GMC Canyons sticker prices are around $54,000 for a 2 wheel drive elevation 4 cylinder. I came from a new Nissan Frontier into a new Tacoma because the Nissan had a ton of issues.
You can get a full size Ram or Ford truck for that price. May not be the top of the line model, but its a full size truck and then you have the Ranger and Colorado a lot less priced. Think I would go with a Frontier if I were buying today.
I strongly suggest machining a steel top hat for the internal bump stop. They don't use frame mounted ones anymore and the cast aluminum top hats are blowing up with shocks driving into the wheel wells. Also I would install a trans intercooler if you do any off roading or towing. The rear diff will overheat otherwise. Also don't allow salt to stay on the frame if you live in the mid west. They thinned out the frame too much in many sections. These will likely break in half over time. I'm not making this up. They are underbuilt compared to past gens. Just know this company has a new CEO who puts allot more focus on stock price and earnings. QC has taken a nose dive. They have cut many corners here. Facts.
My 2016 F150 XLT loaded Supercab WITH a 5.0 V8 was $44,000 and I negotiated it down to $38,500,with these high prices on all these vehicles I will keep my Ford and BTW..it has been a great truck.

The paint looks like it was sprayed on with a rattle can, and the fit and finish of the front bumper was ridiculous. The transmission was absolute garbage and didn’t know when to shift. The truck was slow and got horrible gas mileage. I drove a Jeep gladiator Rubicon, and it was so much better than I Tacoma. I couldn’t believe it!
Done right turbos can have long lives but I have allot of pause on Yota turbos. The trans and differentials are completely underbuilt however. No trans intercooler either. Those are the problem areas that are breaking right now out of the gate. Also the internal bump stops are seeing the shocks busting through the cheap ass cast aluminum top hats. This is comically funny how crappy these are now.

The 4 cylinder engine, suspension issues like "bump stops" that are not on the frame, price, build quality, etc. We love our 5th generation 4runner and plan to trade the Jeep and buy another 5th generation 4runner. If it was not broken, why did Toyota touch it?
Corporate greed
It’s price. I was all excited to get one when turning in my 2021 TRD Off Road Premium. 2024 specced exactly the same is over $10,000 more expensive only 3 years later. Got a 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4X instead for only $2,000 more than I paid for my 2021 Tacoma and with way more features.
How do you like it? I have a TRD Sport I was going to trade in and decided to put in a few grand for a tune-up, new brakes, tires, and drain and fill on the transmission/differentials. Waiting to see what will happen in 6 months to a year.
This is fact. So many Tacomas lined up at our local dealership. And not a Camry anywhere in sight. Might we be seeing a switch back to sedans?
I am so done owning nice automobiles the Public cannot keep their hands off of something nice through jealousy scratching and door dings. I’m over it. Gonna run beeters from now on.
I tried that before buying my new a few years ago. The used car market, particularly trucks, is miserable. They want top dollar for even the shittiest turd of a used truck.
I'm going to keep my 2018 with a 2.7 at least it's reliable.
You done transmission oil changes?

But the addicted Fanboys MUST buy it. They need a 12 step group so they can let go.
And then they RAISE the prices too. That's a 3-way GOUGE to the customer at once!
And the sheeple still say they're GREAT!
The thing is Toyota isn’t building reliability anymore. And they’re charging too much based on their legendary Liability, which is gone now. That’s the problem.
@@robertedwards3822 It's terrifying that GM is building something much more reliable than Toyota. The Tundra is a time bomb, and now the new Soft Taco too with junk transmissions. Japanese always used to be bulletproof.
Does that GM have the horrible internal belt for the oil pump?
My 1996 Ford F-150 with its 5.4L triton motor with 277,000 miles on it still runs like a champ and if and when the motor finally does die ill just rebuild it and save 50k
Very happy with my new 2024 Frontier fully loaded. $50.000 Canadian = $37.000 US. Hello from Vancouver Canada.
Literally got mine this week and absolutely love it. 2024 TRD Off Road, Off road upgrade package. It has power and feels amazing to drive. Actually my dream car. Plenty of love out there for it, and not having a V6 is a nothing-burger. The I-force MAX electric assisted engine absolutely responds. But yall keep hating.
How much should It cost then?
I bought one of the last 23’s on purpose because I absolutely did not want a turbo 4 cylinder. Nor did I want the giant screen inside. Nor did I want a new transmission on its first year. Nor did I want to pay 10 grand more for a bunch of stuff I didn’t want. Happy with my decision. No regrets.
Just bought a 2024 Chevy Colorado z71, 4x4, full leather, and every option except sunroof, running boards, nor factory lift. Paid 44,000$ ; msrp was 48,900., 4.2% 60 months financing.
24 SR cost what a loaded SR5 in the 3rd gen. Nope.
I do remember when $60,000 could have bought you a High Country Silverado 2015. Now just seeing it on mid size trucks is very funny lol
Because I can buy a fullsize 1-2 years old, same gas mileage, better towing, better hauling, need I keep going?
$66k for a 4 banger?!!! Hard NO for me. Not more than $40k.
I am buying one just because he’s built in Mexico because I’m Mexican. Thank you very much.
That’s just about what I paid for a low optioned Ram 2500 tradesmen with Cummins. A tow beast
Part of the problem are dealers mark up.
i got the truck in june and i hooked up a trailer once and now im getting what others call "ghost trailer"bug. the truck thinks im pulling a trailer when im not and all rear sensors do not work . dash also keeps displaying a trailer message that wont go away . the dealership is also charging me almost $300 for diagnosis and $700 just to see if rear bumper needs to be realigned. nothing seems to falls under warranty . truck as been to the dealership service twice now an still no fix
I'll stick with my 1999 1st generation 2 door V-6 extra-cab.
If Toyota brought back the 1st generation, as it was, they'd sell them all.
Okay, I’m totally confused here! Why are all the current Tacoma fourth gen owners and Tacoma fourth gen fan- flunkies praising and sticking up for this new Tacoma and constantly belittling people that point out all the bad traits of this new platform?! 🤷♂️.
Engine aside this is the most aesthetic looking Tacoma
I can't understand paying $50k for this truck when you could pay the same money for a much more spacious F150 or Silverado. Can't site reliability issues as pickup trucks are the only thing Ford and GM do right. Unless you want the Tacomas manual transmission, there's not much reason to choose the Tacoma over the other options.
Lots of rattles on the new designed Toyota trucks, sad.
I agree the price on the Tacoma is ridiculous , I bought a 23 Tundra Limited with Panoramic roof, JBL sound, CrewMax, 6.5' bed for $ 62K, not cheap, but a full size truck with V6 Twin Turbo 389HP, the Tacoma is more in Trail Hunter, and TRD PRO trim,, CRAZY,,, BUT the Turbo 4Banger has serious grunt
I have the Tacoma 24 TRD Off Road. Loving it.
I will be buying a Tacoma soon but not the 2024. I do not want a turbocharged engine which results in more wear and tear on the engine. I will look at a low mileage 2020 or around that year.
The days of V8s and V6s are going way fast.. thanks to CAFE and the EPA

Mexican made over priced 4banger turbo with bad quality- no thanks Toyota
Multiple reasons for me.. Hate the new design, I will never own a Turbo motor and it's over priced.
I was one of those loyal Toyota customers. My first car was a celica with a manual transmission. I've had several tacomas and I currently have a 2021 4runner. 50K+ dollars fir a 4 cylinder truck with a bad transmission a bad shock tower, quality problems. Forget about it.
My Next Truck is FRONTIER!!!
I got a used 2021 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X, and I absolutely love it. They can keep the taco
You can’t get a 6’ bed in a frontier even though the web site shows them…right from the dealer’s mouth! So I opted for the Tacoma
The last gen tacoma V6 was totally gutless. They have been over priced for a long time. New vehicle prices are just ridiculous all around.
In just bought the new nissan frontier and it is awesome I will never buy a tacoma ever again after having this nissan
Didn't the EU and California force the auto manufacturers to downside to 4 cylinder turbos?
Not to sound rude, but when you show us the window sticker can you hold the camera steady?
I traded in my 3rd Gen for a 4th Gen OFP. Also bought my dad one. Love my new Tacoma 🤷🏻♂️
Facts.
So happy I bought my 21' when I did. They're 20k more expensive now than what I paid.

Frontier likely to.last longer

I bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road and I was amazed at how poor the quality was.
No V6 and to much good bye toyota said 😢😢😢
Done right turbos can have long lives but I have allot of pause on Yota turbos. The trans and differentials are completely underbuilt however. No trans intercooler either. Those are the problem areas that are breaking right now out of the gate. Also the internal bump stops are seeing the shocks busting through the cheap ass cast aluminum top hats. This is comically funny how crappy these are now.
They are selling the hell out of them right now. One of the top selling vehicles in the US.
Can't align a tailgate? And $55k-$66k for a Tacoma? No thanks.
1st. It's the inflation
2nd is the price of the car
3rd is the mark up
4th is the stupid ass gov regulation, hence engine is smaller
5th is a 4 cylinder truck
