OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! THIS IS AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I AM TOTALLY OBSESSED
HI ALI HERE FROM PAKISTAN DO U NEED VIDEO EDITOR ? I AM AVAILABLE ONY 5 DOLLAR
Random documentation is definitely better than planning when it comes to vlogs
I agree :)
Yup, just overlay a preset and your done. Vlogging is easier than people make it out to be.
1:38 That advice is the most common advice I give to EVERY creator, even some of the biggest creators still have this problem.
It’s a really easy mistake to make but thankfully you can do some magic in post!
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1,312 subs and > 1,000 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
Omg this is spot on. The whole “going from A to B full length film” is what almost every beginner does. Until we learn how overkill that is it’s just a thing we have to go through. 😂
Hahahaha so true
Soooo goood!
Loved the way you pieced this together 👌🏼
Thank you!! 💕
Yes, she killed this!
I stopped vlogging with my wife, everything had to be so perfect (my fault) “I needed a plan “
But what watching this video I realize I was so wrong , I missed the fun part of the process.
Thanks for this video
And happy for you vlogging Channel 🙏🙏🙏
Love that!
I am the same. I use to vlog before and it was just natural, as I started to get more serious on UA-cam and learning more about video, I started overthink everything and stopped enjoying the process. Mumu wife in the other hand, she is free, she would do the most natural vlog while I am overthinking, I think that bring a balance if you look at it in that way. Anyways, this video and you comment helped me to remember why I like vlog in the first place! Document it!
I feel like I’ve watched a ton of videos on “how to vlog” over the last year. This is by far the best I’ve seen. So helpful! Wonderful video. Thanks!
This makes me so happy! Enjoy vlogging :)
@@lilafromyoutube I think I will. It feels a little easier now.
😄👏🏻
Absolutely agree with the importance of showing rather than telling, and how music can create an emotional connection. Recently, I've been trying to apply these in my vlogs on my other channel, plus I've been using boost app social, which gives me great content ideas in seconds. And I've seen great result!
No way! I'm using it too but on my IG. The AI tools are game-changing for my hashtags and captions!
OMG!! "Stop telling your viewer what you're going to do"...This...I needed to hear this...I feel that this will make things so much easier for me!!! Thank you for this advice!
Am a student nurse and been toying with the idea to start a vlog channel, then i thought, my life is boring. But after watching your video, i feel somehow confident. am gonna try it start tomorrow and am gonna mention you there for helping me come out of this shell!!!!Lots of love
Yesssss! We’d love to see days in the life of (student) nurses. I bet your life is anything but boring. Go for it! 👏🏻
I would say that there IS an argument in favour of verbally announcing what you are doing or going to do in a vlog. I personally enjoy being told what’s coming up when watching vlogs myself because it sets me off wondering how it will turn out and keeps me hooked to find out. Also, many of my viewers have told me they tend to listen to vlogs whilst doing their housework, rather than watching as it keeps them company plus I have several who have told me they are partially sighted. I also have people watching who are learning English, so for them it’s useful to hear a description of what’s happening as well as visual cues to help understand the meaning. X
Yeah I think it depends on what you announce! But when you announce “I am going to the supermarket” followed by a shot of you saying “just came from the supermarket” there is nothing interesting about it. It’s better to show you’re going to the supermarket instead of just talking about it. regarding the partially sighted comment: I didn’t think of that and I think you made a very fair remark.
@@lilafromyoutube oh yeah - I do both! Though sometimes you can’t film things, like today when I explained about a nurse practitioner coming to our house to train me to inject my daughter, and then updating the camera about what happened and how it went afterwards. Those sorts of things are essential to a life story but can’t be filmed. I think my audience are used to the near constant barrage of audio clues about what’s happening so my audience has grown around that, but the more visual stuff could go down better for different audiences. I think some people take in more visually and others take in more audibly. Thanks, Lila. X
Wow. Interesting
“We’re not making a short film here” 💯💯💯
Thanks for the tips! I just started experimenting with vlogs and I’ve done professional video productions for my day job and I must say, Vlogging is not as easy as it looks. It’s a different beast!
Excellent advice. I think you're totally right that we feel like we need to be talking to the camera to keep it interesting, but that ends up making it more awkward.
Haha yeah. I made that mistake a lot of the times and I have to remind myself sometimes “don’t talk to the camera for the sake of talking to the camera - just do your thing!” :)
These are all lessons I had to learn the hard way with vlogging. REALLY wish this video was around when I first started lol. It's probably the most helpful "how to vlog" video I've seen.
Such a big compliment, thanks jay! But yeah I can obviously relate because I went through all of it too in order to make this vid haha
I just started vlogging this year, and it honestly changed my life. My first (traveling to Malaysia) vlog even got 1k views in the first month! It's so much work, but honestly it feels like legacy building. So so glad I started this format!
Oh wow that’s great! Keep up the good work
@@lilafromyoutube loved your tips! I really appreciate you sharing all the detailed steps that go into rethinking your footage and editing process!
@@sinaportofficial so happy to hear this!
It is so difficult to cut favorite clips, emotional attachments gets involved. But definitely you need to let it go and yes, less is more! Thanks for the tips Lila 💙
It is, but you gotta murder your darlings
One of the better videos on Vlogging I've seen!. Especially the examples of how Not to do it. Very helpful to see What to do and What Not to do!
Happy to hear that! Vlogging is hard so I hope this will make it a little bit easier
Best video I’ve ever watched about how to vlog. That’s makes me feel more excited about it and don’t to worry that much about what I have to say in front of the camera. Thank you much Lila… you and Peter should make more videos together you both are such an inspiration
Had to come back. So I shot a vlog about 9 days ago and haven’t had the motivation to edit it because I felt like it was too much and all over the place. But, this video motivated me to go back and knock out the edit. I got about 45 minutes of drone and handheld shots down to a 7 minute solid to the point video. Just wanted to say your content is helpful 👍🏽
Brilliant editing technique - and a lot of work - excellent result! - KUDOS!!
Thank you very much!
This is gold! Thank you so much! I filmed my whole trip and felt like I was lost on how to edit it and this just helped me so much on how to! So happy I came across your channel!! 🙏🏽
Thanks Tynell! Happy to hear that. The editing is really where your story comes alive :)
@@lilafromyoutube Your welcome! And yes! That makes sense! It makes me feel more at ease I don’t need to have so much dialogue to explain everything! I love the editing part so this is music to my ears!
This is fantastic advice. Thank you (also the editing was crazy engaging too).
Thanks so much Brad! Happy to hear you’re enjoying my new video style - I’m having a lot of fun with it :)
This was the ONLY video I needed on this subject.
🙏🏻
Great video Lila! Great tips!
I keep doing the same thing ‘what I’m about to do’ thing - everytime I watch it back, I think damn I’ve just ruined the start of that shot!
haha yep! I did a big fat murdering session in my last vlog. That's just how it goes sometimes, and that's the magic of editing!
Honestly you are right about that vlogs are all done in the edit because when I was filming my trip to Taiwan 2 days ago I kept thinking that this entire vlog would be boring but once I started editing I just couldn't wait to finish the vlog and post it!!
Wow wow wow! So many people make how to vlog videos and completely miss the mark and over complicate vlogging! You are so spot on with your style! I'm checking out your other channel now! By the way your cats are super cute 😍😍😍
I have watched hundreds of videos on vlogging and it was you that made it clear to me. Wow!
Thank you so much for highlighting that it’s a vlog so you can just document and the story will come.
🙏🏻
Wow, another fantastic video! I've made a few vlogs and picked up lots of great tips. Also, I totally agree - the edit is everything.
Thanks so much! Editing is really where it happens. Of course you need to have the footage but even a bad day can be turned into a great story when editing :)
Excellent Video, Excellent Information, and Excellent Advice Lila! You Were Very Blessed To Have The Best Coach and Trainer Helping You With It.
Thanks Doug! Yeah Peter is great :)
My first video job involved me chasing tanks and soldiers over a mock battlefield in Germany. It was fun doing the documentation, but you really needed to be able to picture the flow of battle to be effective. I'm fine with documentation, but if you're trying something new a basic outline never hurts!
For sure!
team document for sure! and i feel a lot better knowing that i dont need to use all of my footage when it doesnt fit anymore. but i'll continue to show and not tell 👍🏽
and honestly, i was still entertained with the first video you showed with all those cuts, but i def see how the second video is a bit more impactful and our brains can piece everything together.
I wonder if you would still be entertained if I showed the entire cut, because I bet it would be a total of 1-2 minutes of me showing every step of me getting to Sweden
Just found this channel. This has just saved my vlogging channel. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! ☺️
Exactly!!!!! 💯
The t-shirt are just... perfect! Lol 2 way of thinking! Overthinking, is my biggest problem... but
Peter had said that in his vlog, to just film and then in the edit, make a story out of it. That was a total game changer for me, on the way I saw vlogs. So working on that!
The lady from Epidemic sound is right, how are you suppose to feel if there is no music?! Music is everything! 🎶
The only thing is that vlogs are not searchable content... 😒 So it is harder to get traction...
Loved that tutorial! Have a great evening!
Agreed with everything you said. Bambi is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music so I’m so happy I got to include her. There’s way more I might share in another video, who knows :) btw searchable content is like 20-30% on UA-cam - the rest is all recommended content which could be vlogs. But it’s definitely harder to make your vlogs pop because people basically need to be invested in your story or you as a person. Or both haha.
@@lilafromyoutube Oh I thought it was a higher %. That's nice to know then. I'll work on being "adorable" then! 🤣
Hahahaha
The hardest but, the most fun to make!! I'm all about the document over create. But love creating!
Yes!!
Learning to use bits and pieces, sample, reverse, add reverb and delay, repeat, fade in and out of songs and sound effects really helped me step up my story telling. Using a low pass to duck the music when talking is a game changer, it literally tells the viewer "hey something is about to happen".
Helpful hearing the “you don’t have to show every detail between A and B” part. 👌🏼
🙏🏻
This was so excellent. Gave me some great ideas. Thanks Lila!
Awesome!
LILA! I literally did all of those things last night while choosing songs on Epidemic! I found a song I loved, then chose similar to sprinkle them throughout the rest of the video for theme continuity.
Awesome! 😁 proud of u
Wholly smokes Lila, this is one of the most helpful and encouraging videos I've seen on this topic. I may actually start now! It's only been six years of procrastinating...
This is the perfect time to start!
this was great! Thank you! Vlogvember is about to get way better ⚡⚡⚡
Editing is key, you can make the most boring story interesting with fun and exciting edits
That Video was very well made Lila! Specially the beginning definitely hooked me. Thanks for the Tips 🙏
Thanks Peter! I’m glad you enjoyed it
I just started my channel and this was MUCH needed. Thanks heaps for this, I’ve learnt so much from you 🤗
You’re so welcome! Happy to hear this! Enjoy your channel
Intelligently delivered and executed Lila. Overthinking projects is my #1 problem.
Sameeee
Probably the best "how to vlog" video I've seen so far, thank you!!
Thank you!!!
Great advice Lila. Cheers 🍻 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Such great advice! Thanks 😊
Happy to hear that!
Love this video, I can relate to being the person that gives up mid vlog
I’ve done that plenty of times too 😅 such a shame
OH-MY-GOD! I just feel I just found my new perfect and favorite channel! LOOOOOOVED this video and a couple more I watched. You got aa subscriber and a new fan!
Great tips Lila, it always fun being future you wondering why past you thought you needed to record this. But good news is can always use the other footage in the future if needed.
Haha true
Why am I just now seeing this! Hahah I freaking love this video!!!
Love it! SO much value, especially NOT having to talk to the camera or showing everything
Came here from Peter’s video and just got hooked to Lila’s channel! 🤩👌🏽
🙌🏻🙌🏻 thanks for coming over
The advice given in this video was extremely helpful. thank you so much!
Fantastic job 😉
No doubt,we learn from our mistakes…the more we do the more we learn…
New Vlog channel is the right decision
Great tips for Vlog editing
All the best for your New channel
So true! thanks so much
GREAT ADVICE !!!!! Literally was just thinking to start changing things up for my channel to make my vlogs more soothinig and this was just what I needed ! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!
Yaaasssss go for it ariana! You got this 🤗
This was super helpful. Team Documenting for 2022🥳 Planning was something I felt I had to do aka what I thought was the "right" way. My content and ideas kept getting lost in perfection and I was not putting anything out. This video was super helpful (and liberating! Lol). Thanks for a great video 💕
Very relatable. I hope you’ll have fun with documenting in 2022!! 😁
This was the most helpful video besides Peter's on how to vlog! Thank you so much!
I’m happy to share first place with him lol
Your explanation is amazing, this really helped. Thank you
This is so true. I (Kelley) had footage I hated but after I got done the song made it great.
Right???
This is such a great and simple explanation. Thanks for always inspiring me, Lila!
❤️❤️❤️
Hi! I hope that everybody may have a lovely day today. I love the editing style of your video! :)
Aw this is such a lovely comment. I hope you’ll have a lovely day too! ☀️
Really helpful video, I feel like this would have been the perfect opportunity to pull some people over to your vlog channel.
So much truth here on not shooting everything because then it’s a bear to watch and / or edit it all and also editing down to let the story tell itself.
Haha that’s true. It’s great to shoot everything if you want options though
Love how this came together
Thanks :)
There is so much information in this video that I have been looking for. Thank you for making this!
You got this!!! Cheers to 100K
What a great video! I especially liked the tip not to tell people what we are doing while vlogging.
It’s something we all do and have to stop doing haha. Sometimes it’s helpful to provide additional context but usually we dont need to spell it out like that
Hey Lila! I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video and it's really helped me because i'm always worried people will be bored, and i'm always turning my camera on and off! so I'm gonna take your advice - will do a half and half thank you!!!
Thank you for this video!! I learned a ton of things im going to apply to my vlog channel Thank You!
*I'm saving this video because it is what people need to learn so there's no confusing on what to do b4 they start adding in things that don't matter. *
👌🏻
Less is more, your audience will figure it out, we are smarter than we look 🤣, happy holidays Lila.
Hahahaha 😂 I have faith in you. Happy holidays!
Lately, I'm really interested in vlogging. This helps a lot. Thank you!
So glad to hear that
This is surprisingly reassuring, love it 🔥
Yess the video i was waiting for! Like the way you made it😂😂😂
Hahaha thank you! I hope it helped at least a bit
Omg you have no idea how much this video helpedddd! I love vloging but I have a very boring life and the video always turns out horribly boring. I’ll be trying these tips out next time
Thanks I’m going to try again 😊
This is my favorite how to vlog video I've seen! Very engaging. Great lighting. Very fun. Awesome job Lila. Very well put together! 👏🏼
❤️❤️❤️
I literally just started vlogging! This video is really helpful! Ima sub!
I went to Istanbul this summer and I was vloging there. Thru the edit I had so much footage that I really like to show it all through the whole song. After this video I saw my mistake and why didn’t had much attention from the viewers. Thanks Lila.
I’d love to go to Istanbul some day. I hope you’ll be travelling again soon so you can use these tips 😊
Definitely need to work on over explaining and adding too much of the in transit footage. Great tips, I’m excited to film again! And shot out to the man Peter!
Your channel is a gold find!
🙏🏻 thank you I hope you enjoy!!
This has given me a vibe of vlogging again
Perfect! Just in time for winter break
Thank you😊
Loved this video thank you! And yay for the vlog channel, it gained another subscriber 😃
Great video as always 😊 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Lila! 🎅🎄🎉
Happy holidays!
👏👏🔥 overthink is def a vlog killer!
this video is awesome! And by the number of different cuts, it should have taken sooo long to be ready! But it should pay off. There is very high value in it and the edit is so good😱 loved it! 🙏 thank you
Haha it definitely was a lot of work but very much worth it :)
Loved this video. I’m definitely team document 😂 I did my first Vlogmas as a way to practice and film more. Looking forward to getting better at vlogging for my channel 🙌🏼
So exciting! Keep it up!

Yo your channel is BOSS level fr!!

I have learnt a lot from your videos love it thanks Lila for sharing them
Hi Lila, This was very helpful! THX!
Loved this. Good tips and will definitely help. Saw your buddy Peter on Peter Mckinnons vlog. Then checked some of Peter's videos and the algorithm put you on my screen. Cool how that works.. and now I'm a sub.. Looking forward to more.
Great video. Superb advice and tips
Are you team document or team planning??
Document.
Hi Lila! I'm a little bit of a both. I like the lighting on this video and the colors too. Good job! Will definitely check out your vlog channel.
Team document 100% when it comes to vlogs.
I'm team planning, but I work for people who won't attend preproduction meetings!
Yes
Tanx for these tips! I hope I can still save my channel 🥲
Of course!
thank you for your suggestions its helpful for me .
Always coming out here with these videos, helping me to up my game :) I appreciate you!
