In this video, I’m finally spilling all my secrets about how I edit aesthetic vlogs, from filming equipment, to my complete editing workflow including rough cut, adding music, color correction, to my most used ~aesthetic~ fonts, effects, transitions. I share editing techniques to make your ordinary life engaging stories for the audience, and tips to save time so that you can consistently put out vlogs even with a full time job.
I edit w/ Final Cut Pro, but feel free to adapt the workflow + time saving tips for any other editing software (Premiere Pro, CapCut, iMovie etc.)
Putting ourselves out there is hard, and editing can feel like such a daunting task. I hope this video helps make it easier to get your story out to the world✨

Evelyn, why don't you make a course on skillshare about vlogging?. You mentioned you do scripting before filming. You could cover all that and do a complete walkthrough from beggining to end. Show the filming along with the script you created. Then the editing part, etc. I would totally watch your course
I have been toying with this idea actually! *Everyone* please like this comment if you would like to learn more about vlogging from me (from a course). If so, what specific topics would you like to hear about?
Yeah I would be interested in a course
This was so informative 😊
Hey thats amazing idea !! I would like to learn from evelyn ! ♥️
I would love to see you in the course
@@tapiocapressnew subscriber here, I don't typically watch vloggers at all as most feel very fabricated, but after watching a few of your videos about quitting your job in tech (I did the same a few months ago) I was hooked by your very authentic and relatable style. Keep up the great work! :)
To answer your question about what courses would be interesting, the bit I struggle the most with is scripting. And where to start in general. You do storytelling very well and I'd love to understand your process - how do you decide how to structure your videos, how you then script it, how you plan/select the footage to go with it etc.
Also, this video was super informative, thanks for recommending the tools and methods you use!
Thanks for the shoutout! We're very proud to have such a talented creator using Gling.
Thanks for making an awesome product!
@tapiocapress I’m only 3 minutes and 21 seconds into your video and I already feel so much appreciation for you and this video you’ve shared with us. Thank you Babe🙂🧡
I used to work in podcasting advertising, and we required all ads to be between -12 and -6 db, so you are right on target with that!
That's so good to know! Thanks for sharing:)

I just subscribed today because I was watching another of your videos for the first time and was really impressed with how thankful you were for UA-cam even though you've been at it 4 years and don't have a huge following. Great attitude👏👏👏

this is a very helpful video!! thank youuu
this was awesome! thanks for sharing!
This was so lovely friend! I'm catching up on everyone's videos and its so nice to hear your relax and inviting voice ☺ your set up is amazing as usual! I bought this exact same notebook for my personal manifestation journal and I absolutely love it - the deckled edges are everything! I'm using a square 8x8 notebook from Archer and Olive this year for my reading journal. It's my first time using a square notebook and I love how much space it has for designs and reviews! Can't wait to see more ☺☺❤❤
So helpful thank you! 🙏🏽
thanks for sharing your process with us! as a smaller creator, im also curious to see other creatives’ creative process. this was super insightful! 🌟
You rock! This was so helpful, thank you! Now I know that it takes a while to edit! But your tutorial is helpring a lot!
great video! thanks for putting it all together :)
Thank you so much for the helpful and rich insight! I like to explore the possibilities one has with filming & storytelling but I often struggle to have a coherent story (we’re still practicing) + the whole editing process scares me, even tho I am very passionate about the things I do. I will definitely try listing the steps I have to do for editing. I believe it’s the advice I secretly needed to get back to it! 📹💌
You Evelyn are a wonderfully kind soul and youtuber for sharing all these tips and being so considerate of your viewers. Amazing video as always and all the best with the packing and safe travels! Also, i just realised we're both infp omg so that's why i was relating to all your technicalities with things but also what a shared vibe ✨
Thank you so much 🥺 I try my best to honor the time you choose to spend with me because everyone's busy, and there's so much good content out there. It matters a lot that you choose to spend your time here, and I want to make it worth while. The move was very smooth:) Thanks so much again. Have a wonderful week!
Thank you - This is so helpful!
thanks Evelyn! This was super helpful for a small content creator like myself who is curious about how other youtubers approach their editing. Love your video style!
Thank you!! I'm always curious about how other creators edit too because there's so little resources out there about the end to end "creative process", I'm never sure if I'm doing the right thing...glad this helped:)
it's the third time i'm watching your video to improve myself , thanks for your tips
This is Too Much Free Information and You deserve all the ❤️
Thanks so much for this info !
Thanks so much for tips. As a newbie youtuber I think most important thing is people loving you ❤ and I watch all your videos because I love your personality. You look such a kind and warm person 🙏🏻
aww thank you so much🥺it means a lot that you choose to spend your time watching my videos + getting to know me when there's so much good content out there. I don't take it for granted!
this is a pretty thorough video for me as a beginner! i usually edit mini vlogs for TikTok but i think for UA-cam, the process is a bit different. Thank you for the insights!
Ahhh I'm so glad my thumbnail video was helpful for you!! The thumbnail for this video was absolutely killer btw 🔥 if you ever want to jam on future thumbnail ideas, lmk! Corporate dropouts unite 💙
Thanks for sharing so many useful tips on your channel aprilynne, your thumbnail/intro videos really changed how I approach UA-cam🫶 cheering you on from afar✨
Omg so much gold in this video ❤
I love this video, it is crazy funny, thank you!
Omg I LOVE how you show us that you also use random objects as tripods. I also love to use books, like piles of books.
I loved this! Thank you for sharing. Love your aesthetic. Subscribed!
I haven’t used a Procreate for doodles in ages, I need to bring them back! Thanks for the reminder!

This really helped. Thank you. Also yes true, idk what is a good preset!
thank you for sharing !! so useful to have all these tips in one vid

I cannot wait to apply this advice to my next vlog, as I am experimenting with my editing lately
thank you so much Evelyn for posting this 🥰 I am truly going to take these tips and equipment recommendations to heart and get some of these
All the very very best!!
Thank you for sharing your editing tips. Also, I didn't know about Upload Defaults--thanks!
thank you so much for these tips! I'm still working on getting the right equipment and I didn't know any of these 😅
Thank you so much for this video! This was soooo helpful.
glad it helped!! All the very best on your youtube journey🥰
Thank you so much! Your channel is my inspiration. I quit my corpo job too and heck I am so thrilled everday to do stuff for myself xD
Thank you so much Evelyn, it will help me a lot! 💙
I've been filming and editing 16:9 videos for reels/shorts/tiktok since 2020, so this month I though "ok, I guess I'm ready to move on to bigger videos", so here I'm... Spended 5 days of filming and editing for only get 3 minutes of video 🤣🤣 but I'm pretty positive and I want to finish it.
Have a nice day! ☺🌸
This video is so so good! Makes long form videos seem really exciting to create
truly, I am trying to experiment with my editing for my latest UA-cam vlogs and I found this super useful cannot wait to apply this advice for my next vlog that I am currently editing
I really think long form content can build connections in ways short form content never will - and I want to try my best to protect it.
great video!! thank youu
I've been delaying my editing for weeks now as I think I'm having the slump. Luckily, I saw your video and motivated me to finish it within this week. Hope I can upload it soon here on UA-cam 😊😊😊
The way I'm so engaged even though I have no interest in becoming a vlogger 😅But for real, your tips are so transferable to any creative project! Like, knowing when to automate (rough cut, colour correcting) and when to put in the extra effort to make a video's story come through (b-roll clips). Will be taking all these tips with me 😌
Thank you so much🥰 Taking youtube full time has been such a(n unintended, but )fantastic learning experience to get to know how I work best, and how to apply time management/productivity/prioritization skills to other creative projects, or just life in general. I'm so happy you get to take away some of these transferrable skills too! Cheers to you for connecting the dots and thinking out of the box:)
Liked, Bookmarked, Saved. Thank you ☺
Great video! Subscribed
Hey Evelyn this is the first time I'm commenting but I've been watching for quite a while! I just started my channel (literally posted one video) and this is so helpful! Love the point about being utilitarian in editing, was stressing over the fact that I spent over a week editing a 10 minute video lol
Great video, great tips!!! As I am back in more life and travel vlogs 🥰
Thank you for these tips and have a good day 😊🎉
you too🥰
Thank you for this, I've been looking for a way to improve my vlogs. ❤❤
me too
I cannot wait to apply this tips to my next vlog that I am currently editing
This is so helpful!! Thanks Evelyn for sharing your secret sauce!
Thanks for making this video and sharing knowledge! Which MacBook do you use for editing? What are the specs?
Thank you for sharing and I have an idea to do it and fixed my channel ❤
Good video subscribed!
Great video!!
great tips ty
Wait I’ve been trying to find an editing software like going for ages because I HATE the rough cut phase in my talking videos! You may never just saved my life.
i love u AHHHH
Thank you🤍
Give it a try to livestreams, that way you don’t need to worry about editing!
Thanks for making this video, it was very encouraging ❤ I'd love it if you made other videos about the process focusing on storytelling, how you plan videos and shoots/shots to achieve that story and messaging. Hope the move went smoothly 😊
thanks so much for the feedback!! I'm thinking of potentially making videos on specific editing/vlogging topics into a course and perhaps offer it on skillshare because it's not something that everyone on the channel would be interested in...but yes, there's so much more I want to share about vlogging, and would love to get it out to you soon! (and the move did go smoothly!! thanks 😊)
I LOVE THIS! This will be a great help for me! Thanks. And yes it takes HOURS TO EDIT! My last video took 40-50 hours of tears! The views don’t show the work but I’d like to think one day it will pay off! I want to shoot more aesthetically but it’s pain. 😂😂😂
Awesome video, thanks for sharing! How did you film the shot of your camera sitting on top of your phone 😂
The best thing was that UA-cam recommended your channel to me, I loved it
ME TOO
thank you so much!!🥰
omg i didn't realize you had minor color correction! thought it was raw footage only. but love this so much :") ur transitions always feel so smooth & i borrowed my technique from you! gonna apply everything else from this to my editing heheh
that's exactly how I learned to edit - taking notes from other people (*bestdressed*) and borrowing their techniques, then eventually I found my own style. All the best on your journey!! Glad I was able to help:)
It is amazing to see your growth from the first few videos to now, its great seeing your process but also the human different the videos like "damn it dave" and 'fuck"
hahahah I mean,,,,i don't want to get demonetized but the camera sometimes catches me off guard 😂 and yes, it's crazy seeing how bad my videos were when I first started🙈it just shows that making videos is a skill, and it does get better with time and practice!
1:48 hahaha saaaame!!
The video I wish I’d seen before I posted my first video!! But thanks to you, my second video should be awesome!!! Thank you!
thank you so much for this! i have posted a few vlogs already but im still trying to find more tips and finding my own style too. the major problem for me was finding angle and color correction. i will list down the tips i could use from your vid!
same girl
I've been trying to find my own style lately and experiencing a bit with my editing skills
I cannot wait to apply some of this tips to my next vlog
Finding angles is something that I learned over the years...It'll come to you too! The difference is so obvious if you look at some of my earlier (objectively worse) videos😂A quicker way to learn would be to look at your favorite youtubers' videos, write down what shots/frames look good, and try to "work backwards" to recreate them. Good luck!
@@tapiocapress thank you so much for the tips!!
It's out!
How did you set up your rode mic go settings? Finding the right setting for my audio and the right audio for editing is where I struggle a bit ...
Great!
I used davinci resolve for do my first video on UA-cam, will check is final cut will be more OK or not
Thank you for video!
