Part 2 is live now! It's all about how to keep your camera from getting stolen when you're filming yourself by yourself ❤ ua-cam.com/video/sy-WeJBk1Gg/v-deo.html
Okay real talk, this is seriously an INCREDIBLE video. I can't even process how to film yourself filming yourself, and this video runs so smoothly. You deserve all the external validation you get!!
Ha, thank you!! It was a lot of work, especially since I had a ton of technical difficulties 😅 but we got it done. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 🫶🏻
@@lilafromyoutube I am going to try everything you said in this video to make shorts of me going to the Survivors Memorial. The Survivors Memorial is a documentary I am working on and my first big project. I would love to keep you posted on it.
This was SO useful. The info was clearly simplified, but totally ON POINT for youtubers (vs filmmakers). Great job Lila I look forward to watch more videos from you, this was the first one for me.
La la loved your tips about manual focus / staging objects to achieve the focus that you envisioned. First video I've seen of yours & am blown away by your creativity! 💞
This is really great! So many good tips. Definitely inspires me to better storytelling in my videos. Here’s my challenge: Most of the “how to film yourself” tutorials like this are set in areas where there are no other people. I live in a big city, where there are always other people not too far. I feel so uneasy about setting up my camera on a tripod and filming myself walking away. I’m so afraid that someone’s going to see me doing that and snatch my gear at the first opportunity! Any tips on getting shots like this in a city? Or is it simply a matter of being more creative in the shots. Maybe they need to mostly be mid and close shots, and then the wider shots don’t include me? Any ideas?
The best part, along with the great tips, was the encouragement that "you are not alone." It's easy to forget that when you only see the finished product. I appreciate you, as always!
Thanks!! It’s probably better to leave it out for ✨ retention purposes ✨ but I felt tired and defeated after the shoot that I needed to say it in case anyone else feels that way haha. I definitely felt a bit alone because no one really mentions it! 😂
Wow! This video provides really good, helpful, and honest advice. It’s a great story! And you beautifully document with your unassuming Sony A7 iii (?) and snappy Doc Martins (?) all the hard work and time it takes to create a gem like this. Thank you! You and your musings about AI and self-shooting a video package (during which you never talk down to your audience) have inspired me.
Fantastic video Lila as always, I haven’t posted a decent video in almost a year, trying to get back to it with a vlog and this video has given me the motivation I needed.
This is such a great video. I really appreciate that you're teaching how to film yourself while you're actually filming yourself and really landing it. I've always found your explainers helpful, but this has layers - focus and framing, yes, but you're knocking the visual storytelling out of the park! Thanks for making this. It's inspiring.

Great work on filming yourself.....filming yourself. Filming yourself on its own is hard work so cudos to you! For me, it was always remembering to press that record button! I have also used two cameras when filming tutorials. One mid range and one close up. Just as challenging. And then there's the audio! Yes, you're right. All very draining and challenging. Great info on the AI and App which I will be checking out. Keep up the great tutorials!
Recently got into photography (astrophotography primarily) and now I want to experiment in filming. A tripod has been the best purchase I ever bought. I use it way more than I thought. Even tried using a monopod which can be useful. And lately I finally buckled and got a selfie stick, lol. It was actually very useful since I am a solo photographer. But I ended up just using my tripod and camera delay function. I don't have enough practice in using a selfie stick though they are useful for taking close up shots. Or perhaps if you are vlogging.
Hi Lila, thank you so much for this helpful video! Your tips on how to film oneself are really practical and easy to follow. Hi! I am glad I found your channel today. You are very well spoken and a delight to watch. Just trying to get my first video organized and shot myself. Very overwhelming! This video helped me. Thank you and have a great day!!
These are excellent tips! I film solo hiking, which can be quite challenging. I love that you mentioned using a storyboard-I recently started doing that, and it has saved me so much time!
oh that’s definitely challenging! A storyboard or shot list is a must. Definitely pin a little note with all the shots you gotta take (establishing, wide, medium, close up etc) as a little checklist.
I'm relatively new to Premiere Pro and have been getting frustrated with so many tiny things that slow me down. This video covered a number of them. You're a life saver!

Wow I loved this! So helpful and I love that you show all the struggle and mistakes one could have! May I ask, if you could do a video on your workflow? Or do you have some kind of end date for it to delete it all. I gather SO MANY files after years and I usually dont look back at them. great tips, I also found that using a gimbal instead of a tripod (or on a tripod) makes job soo much easier, cause you don't have to deal with camera angles using tripod itself, which can ruin your video by making you irritated. with gimbal you can change angle in a matter of seconds, using joystick. they also have smartphone app, which can let you set points of movement, making you look like you actually have friends filming you
