Of course you're right! I stopped making videos on UA-cam for a long time because it was very hard for me to record myself, but recently on a trip to Copenhagen, my wife and I started recording a vlog. I used a camera and my wife used an iPhone. And somewhere, that passion and the fun of creating materials on UA-cam came back, so I hope that now after watching your film I will be even more motivated to document my Norwegian life and everything around me ;) Greetings from Oslo 👋
I always search for videos about filming yourself but can’t believe this is the first time I’ve seen one that addresses this topic! I’ve always been anxious to move my eyes away from my gear when shooting solo and often wondered how other solo travelers and/or creators maneuver this. Thank you for the tips 🤍
I am from India,🇮🇳 I have seen all your videos, your teaching level is so great regarding video editing that I have no words, I have learned a lot from you.
The hip new kid on the block is 'Life of Riza".... She takes the "filming yourself" to the next level.... Analyzing the more seasoned creators shows that rules and habit make an excellent combination.... #repeatrepeatrepeat And Lila, you did a great job explaining..... 👌😻💯
Hey Lila, Another one for filming yourself is seeking out and using an Escape Room! They are mini sound stages/studio sets after all; contact one, ask what day/time is the slowest for the various rooms or the complex as a whole, and if you can rent the place out to shoot? If all goes well, steer respectable creatives their way. That way they have an increase in their revenue stream and you have a place to get controllable content risk free.
thank youu for this video, i helps me a lot because i'm scared in front of the camera. I'm good at photography but filming myself is difficult, but thank you for this and to your advice ❤❤
Very good, sensible, pragmatic, realistic, real-world steps to keep on creating and telling your story. Have to say the last frame with the camera toppling over made me snigger; we've all done it. :-)
Been watching your videos for a few years and learning a lot. As a native English speaker, I’ve noticed your English has improved drastically. Very slight accent! Goed gedaan hoor! Mvg, Remco.
OK Lila, I just noticed your page a few minutes ago. Thanks about the advice about the SSD; I had the same problem with Nikon's software. Way back in the day, I was still shooting film when everybody else was shooting digital. So, because I "had to learn digital anyways," I picked up an old pro model Nikon. (This was back when Windows Vista was getting Apple a lot of customers.) Like the hair. So, as I was telling you, I "Had to learn digital anyways." Let's skip that part, because I'll just chop it into a tree with a rusty soup can. Let's get "to the subject." Studio lighting is a profession, camera operations is a profession, cutting hair is a profession. Now, I'm sure you wouldn't want me, chopping your hair out of a treetrunk with anything less than a quality Progresso brand, so, if you wouldn't mind... ...2 GE reveal floods, and one Sylvania halogen. Bounce them off a piece of natural white watercolor or drawing paper from the art supply. Change the camera settings to outdoor shade. (Because I really don't want to throw the entire art department out of the country so some congressman can save us from $.03 electrical bill added to $65 worth the surcharges.) Actual photography lightbulbs are expensive. TY. As I said. I like the hair. I'd hate to find out that your skin isn't better than a $.53 Led bulb with $300 price tag.
You know. … it wasn’t until I got my camera a month ago that I started to realize “ wait a second, do people constantly have a camera man or is there just a lot of walking back and forth “ 😂
I have seen the shot dissections from Digital Spaghetti and I would love to see you cover this topic too, it's a niche I feel isn't being served as much yet.
Lila you're a Rockstar. Such a beautiful human being. I can absolutely understand the effort that goes into making these videos that you keep churning out for us. So much thanks to you and much love. P.S. The 'oops' with that straight face in the end cracked me up 😆♥
Great tips again, Lila! I'm usually shooting out in secluded areas so I'm able to keep my gear a bit less conspicuous but every time I film in the city I get the anxieties big time! Gonna keep these tricks in mind. Also, I'm totally stealing your vehicle backseat talking head shot you've been using, never thought to do that!
Great video tbh👍🏾, I can’t imagine how tiring it was filming this all by yourself because I know how hard it is for me to film all by myself! From setting up the camera at a convenient angle then walk some steps away to capture the movements … it’s hard … it’s stressful but it’s worth it 💯
Lila, thanks for the super helpful tips! Your thoughtfulness and attention to detail is amazingg! You're such a helpful resource - we'll always tune in for your videos. 👏
It's properly said as "fewer" people... not "less" people. The rule on this is, if you can count the things your talking about it's fewer, and of you cannot count it, then it's "less."
Your tips are leggggit!! I am just starting out my UA-cam content creating journey and this video hit the nail in the head 🔩🔨. Thanks so much for this video
Thanks Lilla, Im enjoying your videos very much. Ive recently been looking at paid audio for my channel so Im giving trackclub a go, thanks for sharing, and once again a whole video packed full of top quality tips! win win!
Thanks for answering my question I asked you from your last video! I still live in NYC and I still feel reallllly nervous when I walk away from my camera. But, also, maybe one can trade off with another vlogger to watch each other's equipment on respective days of shooting. One day I'll be there for his camera and the next day she'll be there for me. Just a thought... And yes, disecting other videos would be a great idea. I like it!😀👍
@@lilafromyoutube good advice! And from your video also… But just like driving, you gotta look out for the other guy… Always …especially the ones with sticky fingers! And I must say you are wonderful in your videos!
In some cities simply walking around with your smartphone in your hand makes you a target and I don't mean waiting for you to put it on a mount and walking a few steps away either. I know too many people who were beaten up or had weapons pointed at them and robbed of any gear.
I just bought a brand new sony a7iv after selling my a7iii because filming myself on a7iii was extremely hard becausse its didnt have flip screen..on the other hand now i am scared of filming in public because of somebody stealing my brand new expensive camera lmao
The new super small insta360 camera that shoots 4k video (forgot its proper name) could be a great tool for shooting these kinds of shots (if you can afford it). Just stick it to some streetlamp or something (with its magnet) and just film. Its so small that no one will know its a camera. This comment wasnt sponsoref btw 😂
I might film in the middle of *nowhere* on an empty road up in the Norwegian mountains and *still* have this naggin' feeling that somebody might walk by and snag my phone while I do something in the distance ...
@@lilafromyoutube Hahahaha, yeah, it’s the irrationality of it that’s funny :) Like, nobody is gonna stay hidden in a bush up in the mountains waiting for an creator to «swing by» so they can steal the gear, but still that naggin’ feeling of «it’s wrong» to do this :) Crazy part is, most norwegians are so law abiding that we leave the front door open sometimes, people leave strollers outside of café’s no worries and mostly it’s not a problem at all :)
Afew years ago I was finally fully determined to start making content.. back then I had nothing but a phone. The very next day someone stole it from my pocket. 😅
Think the worst thing I have seen people do is the lift testing shots, video themselves walking into the lift and doors closing, issue of course if the lift departs, must have a friend to guard the camera
Lila looks just like the IDF soldier i met in the streets of Jerusalem, when i went there as a tourist... i told her she looks like a Jewish Goddess with that rifle... and we exchanged numbers and then that whole month our body fluids... i miss her...
The winners have been contacted, congrats! 🎉

Filming myself is one of the hardest things I've done...to get right. There are sooo many things that can go into it.

can you please make a motivation video? i love how much effort you put in your videos, im positive you will get to 1M subs
can you do a video about filming in public, overcoming the awkwardness of it
Would love to see a breakdown of some video essayists, especially ones that get creative with filming; Dan Olson, Tim Rogers, Contrapoints, etc
Will check them out :)
great video. just one little thing, how do I walk towards the camera without walking away from it?
Walk backwards like I did in the video ;) that way you can keep an eye on it
