To save weight, make the tailboom triangular instead of square, it'll be stronger and lighter.

      @@_BL4CKB1RD_ 🔴 What Is Islam?
🔴 Islam is not just another religion.
🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.

@@FliteTestthis reminds me of ski jump events where they shorten the downhill length to keep the landings in a safe zone.
Maybe the reason is similar. They have a limited space for the landing zone.
But the rules are the same for every team, so it's a good competition.
So, good luck if the event is still ahead of you! You did a great deal of research and tests to get the best possible result! Many others are there just for the fun of it and might go straight down, but you knever know if there is another team that has been working hard too...

Guys, you know Peter Sripol, he's worked with you. Check out his iterations of electric ultralight - he abandoned the biplane idea pretty fast. Two wings generate a lot of drag but not too much lift. Parasol or high wing configuration would be best (like fokker D.VIII, single wing mounted on struts). Another upside of such configuration is that you could use cables or struts to reinforce wing by attaching them to wing and fuselage, it'd save a bit of weight too since you wouldn't need as durable spars. Also I'd go for openwork tail construction to decrease weight as much as possible, possibly do it with CF rods (unless they're forbidden) and shift CG strictly with pilot, not extra weight, but I guess with a plane so light as long as the pilot sits where CG should be it should be fine

I recommend the pilot be able to run the plane off of the edge like a hang glider. If you use a launch cart I recommend making it uniformly collapsible so it can drop just before the edge. You don’t want the launch cart to impart a nose down moment on the aircraft when you reach the edge.

Keep in mind that a small breeze would be the scale equivalent of a small gale. 😛
You might want to focus on designing a launching mechanism (if it’s allowed by the rules). The more momentum you can gain on launch, the more you’ll have to work with in the air and airspeed for controlling the glider. Maybe your team jumping off the platform could act like a counterweight to launch the glider, sort of like the Wright Brothers used for their early planes.
Alternatively you could build a tall launch platform to give you a little extra height to work with, though it might be harder to push due to weight and air resistance.

Seems take off velocity is vital. 10% faster means 21% more kinetic energy.
I'd work on launch proceedings and practice. And any height you can gain on the launch pad already. Can you achieve positive lift before the plane and pilot are in the air? Don't rely on the drop to gain air speed to pull out from. From moment of launch ideally do immediately to gradual glide, if velocity suffices. Disclaimer : not a skilled professional, scared of heights.

"Launch Towers" are not allowed this year. Neither are things like pulleys used to increase the launch speed to more than the crew pulling them. So a lot of the sneaky tricks are not allowed this year.
Don't know about high landing gear, but then it can't drop off, see launch tower, and it can't be allowed to hang down and drag in the water, and it adds weight, even more if it can be pulled up...
