Seeing the child pleading and failing to convince her mother not to take it all broke my heart. Her child seems like a wonderful person and she is just dragging her child down and teaching her a bad mindset. I hope the child keeps its sense moral.
Sad part is most these kids had parents with them. I heard so many parents this year say things like “remember, just take one!” Or “we have to make sure there’s enough for others!”. In fact one parent explained gently to their toddler “if we take more than one, that means another little kid won’t get that piece and won’t have any candy”.
genuinely, to me, a child telling their parents "no, it says take one, why are you doing that?" is one of the most heartbreaking occurrences out there. you are witnessing innocence get overwritten.

I mean, I know Halloween was yesterday, but around here the kids went out on Friday and Saturday nights since they weren't school nights. It's easily conceivable that the editing for that part of the video was done in three days.
When I was in high school, over 25 years ago, my family used to make little baggies full of a variety of candy types. My mom went all out. She would make sure that each bag had the same kinds of stuff in it: a couple of lollipops, a few different chocolate bars, etc. Our house was favorite. People came from other towns just to trick or treat on our street. She would line the baggies up in one of her large cake pans, and hold it out for the kids to take one each. I can't remember why, but she set the pan down on the porch for a minute for something and went inside the house. When she came back, the whole pan was gone. Candy and cake pan that she got from her mother, both gone. We walked up and down the street in the dark with flashlights, asking people if they had seen it. We finally found it along the side of the road about a quarter mile away. That was the last year she bothered making the tricked out goody bags.
@@nymalous3428 That's just awful! I'm sorry you and your mom went though that! Just glad you got back your heirloom, and, considering all the trouble she went through to make Halloween enjoyable for everyone!
This was great. I gave out candy this year. Turns out some kids will take handfuls even if you're holding the bowl. But for the most part, people only took one. And there were teenagers trick or treating who politely asked if it was ok if they could have some, which was sweet. My guess is teens get turned away most places.
I stopped at the gas station and there was 4 teens waiting for their ride, in costumes, reviewing their haul. I overheard them talking about the number of houses that turned them away. I think buying them 4 King size candy bars made their night.
Yeah, no one gets turned away at my house. And we have a big lighted candy chute that bring the parents in, too. And a driveway party. It's kind of a thing.
I think the sting operation idea would be the most terrifying, like what's worse? getting sprayed by silly string, or thinking you're gonna spend a day or two in juvie?
I love that at least one of the girls complied to do the Fortnite dances, that clip ended too soon, would love to have seen it go on for a few seconds longer.
@@anothergamingchannel2656 He heard them. He was looking around for the source. That's the neat thing about ultrasound. It goes through your body and vibrates your inner ear directly.

But then he just whips out the "so we placed them in 34 different porches across the US... Oh.... yea i suppose that works. Well done as always Mark, inspiring the next generation of clever minds though funny videos and amazing explanations
and that points out that his network of collaborators must be huge. He talks about the engineering, but the people organizing must be even more impressive
Hi, if you allow me, I would have a question regarding how they operate, out of curiosity (but this depends on what kind of "trap" you had)... Mark said in the video that in some contraptions, if they sense a sudden change in weight, it triggers. So I'm curious, does it take into account that if a larger group comes, but each one of them takes only one candy (which would be like the same as if only one person taking more), not to trigger?
@@TheBrickagon well it says a sudden change, if your taking only one it would need to be a large group of over 10 for it to trigger, and im guessing it has a short timer.
Omg the Pikachu one had me dying 🤣 next year definitely bring back the swapping toothbrushes, the police one, and the ultrasonic whispers. My favorites for sure 👍 Also, what happened to the wanted poster one?! Did it get cut or something?

This was hilarious. The little girl in the beginning telling her mom she was being bad was adorable. The part of the little kids dressed as pikachu was funny. I am seriously impressed with everything you did to make sure kids didn’t take more then one
Ok yah I agree. It’s sad that a small child is more mature and knows better then the parents but you kinda have to admit how the little girl was telling her mom not to be bad in her little voice was cute. Come on you have to admit at least that, aside from how sad the situation really is that was cute.
just LOVE that that mom's little girl, a toddler, had more moral conscience (enough to tell her mom she's being a shithead basically) than her grown mother 🙃

I struggle with self governing yet I always knew to follow the honor rule. And I had a friend who'd try to make me do bad things growing up. I think what your friend struggled with was moral obligation. Not self governing.
@@bnobston i dont have any problem with the rest of your comment but the use of the word 'lackadaisical' just reeks of using obscure words to make people think you know what you're talking about. its really petty but it rubs me the wrong way *so* much.
@@cosmosyn2514 no worry's. Apologies for how I commented. I just didn't agree with your choice of words. I think I came off rather harsh and combative. A**hole moment. I changed my comment. I Hope it's better.
Well, I think that for some of the contraptions, it wasn't always clear that they were specifically being punished for being rude and taking other kids' candy, so it comes across more like a general prank. These are children we're dealing with, people whose frontal lobe still has years to fully develop, so they may not connect the dots between taking candy at another house, and now the next house has a bowl that flips over. Heck, it's not even that clear to an adult! This is TRICK or treating season, after all, a trick isn't that out of place whether you've done anything bad or not. We also need to remember that we're most likely seeing only a small fraction of all the footage Mark has. The absolute "best" reactions and apologies may have ended up on the cutting room floor, for any number of reasons. Bad audio, privacy reasons, camera malfunctioning, the kid getting TOO scared of consquences (like the police lights and the news segment) and genuinely needing consolation, etc...
Can we just appreciate that this was uploaded so quickly. Less than a day after Halloween. All the editing, subtitles, etc. Thank you Mark Rober and as well as those who work on the channel!
Check out the years of the video footage at 10:10. If correct, this video has been in the making for at least 4 years. Which is arguably even more impressive than making it in a single day after Halloween.
@@LAWSON08 not really, it just means you're organized enough to not lose track of things for 4 years. It would be very impressive if someone was able to pump this out in this quality in a day. Less impressive that it took 4 days of work over 4 years to create. I'm sure he thought about just abandoning the idea after the first year where he didn't get enough footage to fill the adsense requirements, but he persisted and collected more which is also admirable, but really something that anyone could accomplish.
@@LAWSON08 I think those were videos from the Internet of people getting away with taking too much, and Mark used them as evidence that people taking too much candy has happened in past years
@@LAWSON08It's far easier to set up say 10 different locations for 4 consecutive years than trying to do 40 in one go. No doubt lessons were learned from 2019, making each subsequent year more effective/better camera locations.
I'm sorry, that Pikachu segment had me in tears. Maybe I'm just tired and loopy, but seeing that giant Pikachu waddle up and down the sidewalk with his arms out, looking back and forth and being utterly confused...dude I couldn't breathe 😂😂😂
Thanks Mark Rober for keeping the streets safe it's something we always need in our lives I've always been scared of walking next to a candy thief you may not be a cop but you make the streets safer!
If you do that annually in the same neighborhood home prices will drop as all families with kids will be forced at knifepoint by the little tikes to move ;)
This is the ultimate overkill for something pretty insignificant and I'm all for it. It's really unfortunate that there are some parents that do such things even when their own kids are saying not to.
I have a setup similar to the scarecrow in the rocking chair that I use, and it's really fun to see teens suspicious at first, then when their younger siblings escape un-scared after taking only one each, the older kids reach for a handful and get the jump scare. One year I was a little too effective and somehow when I went outside the next morning, my yard was littered with candies I didn't buy... the kids jumped so hard they flung their buckets and lost some candy as they fled. The longest streak I had where I didn't move was about four groups, then two boys who had sat at the end of the drive way waiting for the last group to leave came down and tried to run off with the entire bowl, having watched me not budge for ten minutes. They screamed louder than I've ever heard a child scream in my life.
There must definitely be at least a tiny relationship between porch pirates and candy raiders. Like a higher than average percent of candy raiders grow up into porch pirates
I think the main thing in common with porch pirates and candy thieves is Assholery/narcissism. A group of my classmates were in this video and the one i saw as a narcissist immediately went for more once she saw what was in the bowl as the others didnt take more than 1 and triggered the trap.
12:22 I don't know but the Pikachu costume got me the most lol His waddle is hilarious for some reason😂 And the dad in the background laughing was the cherry on top
I think it was the combination of the costume being so large and "bubbly" I should say, sorta like those dinosaur costumes. Plus the entire thing feeling like one of those cartoons where whenever the protagonist turns their back, something desirable is there (For example, Spongebob getting some Kandy while waiting for the bus at Rock Bottom)
When I was a kid, if I saw an empty Halloween candy bowl, I would take a handful of candy from my own bag and put it in the bowl. I wasn't in it for the candy, I just enjoyed the Halloween spirit. It never even occurred to me that someone would take the entire bowl for themselves, and that meant that I probably just aided their efforts...
Same! I felt it was one of the unwritten rules of Halloween, especially when I was an older kid treat-o-treating with my younger siblings. My friends thought I was just being silly XD
@@zjebeusjsbbdj6310 Just because you're not a nice person doesn't mean others can't be. I was there for costumes and decorations. Not candy. Also, the fact that you think it's literally impossible for kids to be generous and give out their own candy... It worries me what kind of person you are, if you think basic kindness is impossible.

This was great. I gave out candy this year. Turns out some kids will take handfuls even if you're holding the bowl. But for the most part, people only took one. And there were teenagers trick or treating who politely asked if it was ok if they could have some, which was sweet. My guess is teens get turned away most places.
I honestly don’t care if they’re 20 as long as they dress up!

We had a blast being one of the houses!!! It was amazing to see all the engineering that made this come together
That's Great! So much work and effort for one night!
Thank you for participating!
@@TheBrickagon well it says a sudden change, if your taking only one it would need to be a large group of over 10 for it to trigger, and im guessing it has a short timer.
Thanks for helping

No, the little kid telling her mom she was being bad was incredibly sad.
Ok yah I agree. It’s sad that a small child is more mature and knows better then the parents but you kinda have to admit how the little girl was telling her mom not to be bad in her little voice was cute. There is just something so funny about giving out tricks on halloween

@@George-ee3wlwho tf are you bro lmao
The ironic thing is that it’s the trick or treaters that are supposed to do the tricks. It’s an ultimatum, give us treats or we give you tricks.

Oh hey I know you :)

Mark out here making Halloween actually scary again.
He fixed that
Oof wait I commented on the wrong comment
The sad thing is is that I feel like hardly any of them even felt guilty or learned anything
nope
Know Mark he'll do it next year with improvements!
12:25 this was adorable asf for some reason

@@LAWSON08 Knowing this makes the last one much funnier. That last kid might have really thought they were on the news for 4 years.

I love that this is harmless fun and gives the kids a cool story for Halloween! THIS is how you make quality content
This is the ultimate overkill for something pretty insignificant and I'm all for it. It's really unfortunate that there are some parents that do such things even when their own kids are saying not to.
It’s so sad
one of them the parents were blaming the kids for breaking the table
Something pretty insignificant? Spoken like a true candy thief!
Guilty!
Especially at 1:00
The honor system only works in a place where people have honor
That’s brilliant
Thats so cool ❤
That’s both hilarious and brilliant! Hahahaha 😂
now THAT is quality content i’d love to see lol
There must definitely be at least a tiny relationship between porch pirates and candy raiders. Like a higher than average percent of candy raiders grow up into porch pirates
Or porch pirates are the parents of candy raiders.
I think the main thing in common with porch pirates and candy thieves is Assholery/narcissism. A group of my classmates were in this video and the one i saw as a narcissist immediately went for more once she saw what was in the bowl as the others didnt take more than 1 and triggered the trap.

Such a big costume also. Was one of the best parts of the video to me
I think it was the combination of the costume being so large and "bubbly" I should say, sorta like those dinosaur costumes.
