Nielsen's "Audience" should be advertisers and investors. It's numbers have nothing to do with content. Either people are or are not watching. While it's interesting in some sense for the general public to know, it really doesn't matter. Advertisers and investors are and should be cold blooded lizards. "What does my money earn if I spend it on you?"

It's a worthless stat that doesn't mean anything. Wall Street knows this as they are flooded with worthless stats all the time. The only thing these numbers tell us is that Disney owns more distribution channels than anyone else. This is already well know in the media finance world. They know that Disney is the biggest and they also know that Disney is having a lot of trouble. That's why their stock has been going down over the last several years.

I'm from Malaysia, we have a satellite TV here called "Astro" where Disney+ and HBO MAX have signed a contract where these two channels will be included in every TV package we purchase, they also made the same deal with our phone provider here.

The modern audience is all people alive in modern times, which is people aged 5 to 85. When BBC or Disney refer to the modern audience as only those under 35, they are discriminating based on age, which doesn't sound very inclusive.

Love this show. I work for Nielsen. "The Gauge" has been in the works for 2 years. To your point about Disney getting the most views on UA-cam...that matters. The reason it matters is the ratings determine ad prices. If you are an advertiser wanting to buy ad time on UA-cam, it might matter which media company gets the most views when your deciding where you want your ads placed.

They always go for copyrights, but these stats have nothing to do with people watching Disney shows on youtube. Anything watched on youtube would count UA-cam as the distributor and not Disney. People watching youtube are hardly ever watching Disney shows. The idea put forth is wrong anyway, but it would actually suggest the Disney content is far more popular than we believe. That isn't true, but not sure why anyone here would even want to suggest it.

Within the context of entertainment honesty would entail, 1. a return to objectivist reporting clearly delineating between truth (that which comports with reality) and opinion. 2. A complete rejection of identity based storytelling which amounts to nothing more than superficiality, hedonism, and solopsistic nihilism at the expense of plot, character development cultural enrichment, etc. 3. Purge all the activists whose poisoned ideology prevents them from speaking or embodying truth. 4. Regect DEI and ESG initiatives. 5. Instruct the professinal liars (actors) to keep their political opinions to themselves with reference to the projects they are working on. 6. Hollywood should admit to their failures and stop gaslighting their paying customers.

"Disney" on platforms like UA-cam is free advertising. Take the stuff down and how do does anyone know that Disney even exists? Howard Stern went to satellite. He immediately went irrelevant because there was no way to get a "Taste" of him without buying in. If you never heard of Howard Stern up to that point, then what's Howard Stern to you?
Disney on youtube doesn't count in this stat. That premise is wrong to begin with. Anything on youtube is distributed by UA-cam and would count for that. Disney owns so many networks and streaming services, it isn't surprising that they have the most viewers overall. They are comparing 30 different channels and services owned by Disney to Netflix which is only one thing. Disney has bought up more than anyone else and Wall Street knows this. Disney's lead should be much bigger, but most people don't watch much of their stuff. Sports is one of their bigger winning areas.
Tubi has LOT of content that used to be on Netflix and other services. A lot of low grade stuff, but also a lot of diamond in the rough indie films and series. The library on Tubi is comparable to what Netflix had before the streaming wars

I do want to mention that distribution means only who owns the distribution channel and has nothing to do with the content creator. Any Disney show on youtube would count the distributor as UA-cam. This is a must and a certainty. Besides, if what you said was true you would be saying that Disney shows are much more popular than we realize. I think that is extremely unlikely, don't you? Doesn't really matter because the meaning of a distributor is very clear. Anything on youtube is distributed by youtube. And trust me, most people on youtube are NOT watching Disney programs.
Disney is invested in dei and stakeholder capitalism. They have chosen that hill to die on. Potential consumers have said no thanks. Eventually investors will start to insist on profitability

Interestingly, the Rotten Tomatoes Score for The Acolyte has the Critic's Score hovering around 83% and the Audience Score at 14%. In contrast, the overall scores for Ahsoka showed the Critic's Score at 86% and the Audience Score at 64%. That is a heck of a difference, at least as far as the Audience is concerned.

I was surprised original Inside Out wasnt on Niewlsen that week. It had a surge in vierwship baed on the trending section on Disney+. Moana also got a surge even beyond the usual because of the trailer coming out then.

Exactly. Disney bought up a lot of distribution channels and now owns more than any other company by far. Netflix is only Netflix. UA-cam is only UA-cam. Disney is ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, FX, FXX, Fox Movie channel, Hulu, ESPN+, Disney+, etc, etc, etc as they own many more. With the amount of distribution that Disney owns, they should be much further ahead but people don't want to watch their shows.
The only reason why I wanted Disney plus was to Watch Darkwing Duck, I did the smart thing and just bought the DVDs, haven't sent back to Disney plus since.

Honestly I'm looking into getting an HD antenna for my TV, one of those that goes in the house. My satellite charges extra for local channels but if I spend just a bit on that antenna I'll get them without having to worry about the extra fee PLUS I'll be able to get MeTV Toons which is basically old school Cartoon Network and Boomerang before CN became "Teen Titans GO the channel". I got a low data cap and my ISP is being slow about getting fiber or anything speedy without a data cap out my way so I'm having to make due with satellite and hopefully this antenna to get my stuff. Streaming just isn't in the cards for me for now so Netflix or anything that is streaming bar playing UA-cam at the lowest quality for longer videos is right out for me at the moment.
Disney+ is included for free with my Spectrum cable subscription. . . . I will not activate it.
I canceled after Ahsoka and enjoy Acolyte through these reviews 😂
Can we take a second and think outside the box, please? Maybe this is to cause friction within society. In a small way, but it does divert attention away from real problems that could be better analized. Why is disney buying all old popular factions of movies and show titles and then turning them to utter garbage?
All Disney Star Wars had to do was use the most popular stories from what they now call legends or noncanon, maybe have used Lucas's trilogy idea, then do own thing. They would've likely tripled the IP purchase price by now.

They need to just realise that the the top 2 or 3 streamers won scrap the rest and send it back to normal cable and the cinema and save the both and maybe Hollywood at the same time.
Cable tv is going away. It's already a done deal, no reason for anyone to talk about it. It declines every year and the amount it declines is growing every year. Even worse, most of the people who still have cable tv are 60 and above. No young people watch it. And 40% of people who still have cable tv say they want to get rid of it, but are stuck in a bundle deal that would make it more expensive if they dropped cable tv. People are already watching streaming about twice as much as linear tv and the gap increases every year.

Nielson numbers are accurate, they just aren't important. And Hollywood Reporter is a pro-Hollywood rag, it's always pumping Hollywood up.
