The bluebirds will come back every year. But they prefer to have you remove the old nest as mice will winter over in them, leaving mites in the nest. That was a project in my son's outdoor environmental course. Clean the nest boxes in spring and screw the lids back on to keep ravens, crows and raccoons from raiding the eggs. They are such a beautiful bird to watch. Keeps bugs down too.. Its so exciting to see new projects in spring. Happy to hear your wiring is safely replaced and upgraded. Congratulations on the new greenhouse video production. That is such a wonderful offer!
Thanks for the info. I only have one nest with bluebirds. Its too late this year but I will go out and empty the nest next winter. I have wrens and Lincoln sparrows in most of the boxes
Like multiple thousands of other subscribers to this terrific channel, I am effervescing (yep, that truly IS a word) with joy about the revelations you shared with us today! We couldn't be happier! During your videos, you always thank us for coming along. Well, let me tell you, it is US who want/need to thank YOU for bringing us along on your adventures. You are so genuine that, as we watch you work, you literally make us feel like we are on the farm with you and striving to accomplish a massive laundry list of tasks that do, indeed, make our TRADITIONS become LIVING things on the HOMESTEAD. Major high fives to both of you for being family to us and allowing us to be pseudo-family members, as well. Hooray for LTH (Living Traditions Homestead)!! --Dr. Larry S. Anderson, Tupelo, MS
Totally agree with Dr. Anderson... we are the blessed ones... God is good all the time and I pray He continues to bless you and your homestead. (Holland,OH)
Although I'll never have a huge greenhouse (you can bet I'll be watching yours going up) I'm starting with a greenstalk and a very small greenhouse (5 X 8) this year. At 73 that'll keep me busy - I don't know why I didn't start this type of gardening years ago. I'm so excited for you all.
Watch out. Its pretty addicting. Hubby just bought me a new greenhouse to go with the old one im putting new poli on. I started with 8 by 8 and hubby grabbed an 8 by 12 (same type so I can snug them into a long 24 hoop house). Do not! I repeat do not! Get into kratky hydroponics and other little hydroponics lol. I only spent money on proper nutrients and some net cups and rockwool(less than $45 so far)all the containers and pvc pipes and kitty litter buckets were all gathered for free from our other household projects. But the couple little set ups under my led lights are making lettuce and kale like little growing machines. I have celery and basil also in little cottage cheese pints lol. It works. I have to say tho. Gardening gives you something wonderful to wake up to each day. Even the little pots under a $23 shop light 😆 I check while drinking coffee each day
So I would like to say one thing. I am no farmer boy, though after my dad retired from the military we moved off base to the country. I'm a military brat 🤣 my girlfriend and I were talking of buying hogs an yall have motivated us to buy some. Shes a farmer girl and I'm a military brat, but we both took 4 years of agriculture in high school. She showed horses and cattle while I did green house stuff. Yall are an amazing channel to learn from.
Used blue bird boxes can be cleaned before new arrivals. It is best to simply remove the former nest. Quickly spray it with a simple cleaning solution to knock down and residual parasites for the new family, (often repeaters).
Wow, so happy that the greenhouse will be set up by the company. Keeping the birdhouses preserves the farm's history. You both are always so thoughtful about everything you do. Looking forward to your new projects.
Good for you guys. We used your other video when we put up our green house. It was a big help and we let GS know what a big help your videos were. I’m sure we were not the first to let them know about your greenhouse install videos but I don’t think I have ever let you all know. We started the morning watching a video then we went out and did that step then came back inside and watched the next. We repeated this until we were done. Step by step you guys helped. The only way it could have been better was if you were right on our property helping. I am so glad I stumbled on your videos years ago. You have both been such an inspiration. It’s nice to hear what you are doing and trying, what’s working and what’s not. It’s saved me from making some of the same mistakes or has opened my eyes to another possibility/answer. It warms my heart to see good things happening for you. Thank you soooooo much.
@@LivingTraditionsHomestead I found you while researching the HR freeze dryer; LOVE your vids!! So many questions I'd love to ask! Have you FD a roast? Raw or cooked? Soups, did you FD them broth and all? And questions about laying hens for a family of four...

WHAT AN AWESOME 3RD GREEN HOUSE PROJECT!!!! THE COMPANY COULDN'T HAVE PICKED A MORE PERFECT HOMESTEAD COUPLE TO FILM !!!! IT'S A WIN-WIN FOR ALL INVOLVED!!! ONWARD AND UPWARD!!!
I love all the birdhouses on your farm. My friends have wren houses around their berry patch because they eat insects but not fruit. They are also territorial so they protect their area from other birds who might eat the berries/fruit. Enjoy following you.
Lol I just posted about my garden wrens. They are a bit chatty if you garden too close to their chosen box but oh my goodness I counted over 30 bugs caught and fed to her babies in 10 minute! That is a great bug catching machine!

The second bird house is for swallows, they are communal nesters. Bluebirds are solitary, territorial nesters. Both birds are very beneficial to have around.
I live in NE TX and there are five old Marten houses on this property. Martens are also communal. They also migrate to Central America each fall. I feel blessed when they return here to their home ranch each Spring.

I love watching your vlog so much. It’s replaced a blank hole in my life, you can’t imagine. Thank you for that.
I so like that you two work together on projects, helping each other for your family and farm. One isn’t outside trying to work with nothing going right while the other is sitting in the house on the computer. You’re both so down to earth. Very rare these days. I pray that you and your farm prospers and continues to grow good things. God bless you and your family.
