    Seeing both of you, working together, makes my DAY!
    I usually wait all day, until everything is done and Danny is in bed, to sit down and watch your videos! My cat on my lap, we sit here and watch you go about your jobs!
    Today at Tractor Supply in Oak Ridge TN, I found the JetStar tomato! I had planned to give it a try next year, but when I saw it, I grabbed it!
    We will be starting our High Tunnel Greenhouse setup pretty soon! Excited about that! 24 X 40, it will be plenty big enough for our needs. Looking forward to the video of you new larger Greenhouse setup video! Wish it was going to be available for us, but probably not. Thank you both for all of your wonderful videos and for making all of out here feel as if WE belong, along with you, on this journey too! GOD bless

    I think you are lucky having a duck that goes "broody" at home. :) Ours always found a way out of their one acre and we had to search19 acres for their eggs before the racoons got them. One year i found 23 eggs under some bushes...well, the dog did and showed me. :) Just in time, one duckling was already pecking to come out. They would have not lasted long with foxes, racoons and eagles always ready for an easy meal. I love watching you! Cherish every day; live goes by so fast! I am 82, a widow and when I watch you it feels like yesterday ....... thank you for letting me visit with you.

    Your duck is learning from the chickens. Learned behavior in animals always freaks people out, but it happens all the time. My dog learned to only go to the bathroom outside, that was one thing. I also saw some orca whales on TV teaching the young ones how to force a wave over an ice-float to wash a seal into the water so they could eat it. That was dope! Animals learn a lot more than we give em credit for.

    I was glad to see you were planting flowers because it's really important to have as many flowers near the pots as possible to attract the pollinators. The fruit trees will eventually attract them but not yet! Everything is looking good, guys. Can hardly wait to see how these things work out for the shade .

    If you want to do something fun for your chickens, put minnows in the moat. We put a bag of minnows every now and then into a kiddie pool of water for ours and they have an absolute blast fishing them out and eating them. Gives them something entertaining to do :)

    For what it's worth, ducks do very well in nesting boxes. Once they get use to them, they will lay in the boxes and very seldom lay the eggs on the ground. Even the runner ducks seem to like them. Great video as always.

    Adding flowers to the tubs is a great idea, for you, the plants, and the pollinators. Going to be so pretty.
    Just a thought, my IL's have a local bee keeper, put bees on their property. The bee keeper harvests the honey and they get a share. Benefits another local family's income, helps pollinate their trees and plants, and helps the bees. Good luck you guys!

    • @susanschneider-baker49

      @WhoReally Cares
      I found a local beekeeper that has Basswood or Larchwood, depending on which side of the Pond you live, that makes an unbelievably DELICOUS Light Spring Honey. I plan to add those trees to my Orchard area and use them for a wind block for the Bee Hives scheduled to be added in 2 years to our Homestead Orchard area.

    • @lenordvaughan5036

    • @lenordvaughan5036
      @lenordvaughan5036 2 роки тому

      @@susanschneider-baker49 another thing to consider is his plants. Various minutes are a real problem for honey bees but hope plants produce am acid that kills the mites. When the bees work the hoops and bring back the pollen, it is distributed throughout the hive helping with the mites.

    The hoop trellises work really well. Much later you are going to have to watch for 2 things: 1 - As the fruit develops, reposition any that are right over a wire ( I have seen them develop completely around the wire. 2 - As the squash gets bigger and heavier, you have to tie a sling to support their weight or they will break off the vine. I use old panty hose. Any knit stretchy knit will work. I am glad I am not the only one that plants flowers in my vegetables and vegetables in my flowers. A border of carrots are always pretty.

    Maybe add some shade cloth on the opposite (outside) side of the arch. Carry it over the top and down close to your containers. Fix it so you can roll it up out of the way as the plants grow. That way you’d have instant shade and be able to shade the whole arch without putting pots on both sides.

    A tip for growing in any container: fill in the holes in the bottom, and put drainage holes in the side. The height of the holes in the side depend upon the depth of the container. For a drinking cup, or a small plant container, I’d go 1/3 to 1/2 an inch up. For a container the size in the video, I’d go 3 to 4 inches up. This allows the container to hold some water so the soil doesn’t dry out so quickly.
    I experimented with this in FL and in VA in actual drinking cups with spouting seeds, and a large container for trees, and two season long garden beds made out of kiddie pools. It differs from a container with a reservoir because you aren’t doing anything to separate the water from the soil. I found it was great for supporting earthworm populations, as well as for growing almost all my plants.
    It was only NOT good for sprouting squash or pumpkins. The extra moisture allowed the seeds to rot instead of sprouting.

      @@juliebarnett9812 We planted a total of 10 trees. 4 apple, 2 peaches, 2 pears and 2 Cherry trees. It is exciting even know it will take some years to see the results.

    Sara, you are so strong and toned. No need (nor time, I’m sure) for you to have a gym membership. Your dedicated work on the homestead has awesome benefits all the way around. Blessings and thanks for taking us along on the journey.

    Love your "outside-the-box" ideas for multi-use of the moat trellises. Hope the fowl aren't able to get at the plants. They're creatively destructive.
