This may sound weird, but when I get overwhelmed with things I have to do and learn, I just come back and watch another one of your videos... does not matter when the video was made, it is still a treasure watching you guys working your homestead. Love you guys!!
Hey Kimberly! Not sure if they made a video on that or not, but when I had built these in past, I tacked up tarp over the higher open places too with zip ties, and then just took it down afterwards, and we had snow and everything and ours did fine in there, with their body heat it was nice and toasty. Only thing I would do different after that winter, lol was for winter get the coop near an electric outlet, and buy that water heater thingy that Carolina Coops uses in their big water drums...and feed that in and have the big water thing in the coop/warm enough to not freeze b/c our hoses/nozzles/their waters were freezing every morning and carrying out gallons of water from the house everyday to fill the waterers with got old real quick! Then would just do deep bed method in that hoop coop til snow/cold passes enough, shovel it out into compost when done and move coop after snow part of winter passes. :)
We were in zone 8 though so if Colder....instead of tarp, maybe could try sheet metal or plywood? I dunno if it lasted super long if the tarp would've been good enough for the chickens but the ducks, they were good.
@@learninladyhomesteader9374 They did make a video wherein they inserted plywood panels to cover the higher open spaces during the colder months. They think of solutions long before I even know there might be a problem.
I wouldn't have cut that billboard material tarp. I would have rolled the ends up on 2x4 strips of wood like a spool, stretched the tarp tight, and fastened the tarp securely at the bottom. That way if you need the tarp in the future for other projects it's still the same size as it was in the beginning.
We tried ducks , but they are so messy and a lot of work , they always trash there water and soak everything , i had to get rid of them but i didn't want to because the eggs are so much better than chicken eggs IMO!
Yo, the duck walks are awesome, so funny to watch. Please include them on videos when you do your morning chores. So as long as they don’t cross the street again.
Continued prayers for healing for Sarah. So glad you are feeling better Sarah, good to see you. Very nice upgrade Kevin on the Dick and Chicken Hoops. Hope they will be happy in their new home. It's gorgeous there.
Your second homestead seems to be working out beautifully for you. Kevin it seems whatever you are faced with you just get to work and find a way to get things done. Sarah you look so rested I am glad you are taking care of yourself. Mama always takes care of everyone but I learned the hard way after surgery that sometimes others need to take care of Mama. Blessings.
Hi you lovely pair, wow!! What a great man you have Sarah, you must be so proud of Kevin, I did see the little black chicks, look like they are going to be funny, don't be working too hard, stay well and safe, love to all, Margaret xx
I noticed the silkies right away! They're so lovely. They get very broody and are AWESOME moms, so you'll definitely get some babies out of this flock. Also, they don't care who lays the eggs (other chickens, ducks, whatever) so you could hatch out some ducklings, and turkeys, too? Awesome new coop(s), awesome new farm!!! Sarah, so glad you're recuperating well. God bless, Lesa
So glad you are doing so much better, Sarah. Just to let you know I love your chanel. My health prevents me from doing much gardening, but the bright side is I get to live out my dreams through you. I love your sweet personalities and that you both work so well together. You are doing what I always wanted to do. I pray GOD continues to bless you. Keep posting the videos and please don't get discouraged. You are living my dream.
Sara. You are looking super. Yes, the silkies are awesome, they are a very broody bird. We had some back in the mid sixties. Ours were white. I really want to get some more. Please take care and be safe. Joice
Awesome designs for the coops. They seem simple to build but effective. Nice to see Sarah is doing well. I am continuing to pray for her speedy recovery.
I really like your hoop coops. Wish our tiny property was bigger so I could do those. We only have 50X100' space including what the old mobile home we live in sets on so limited space, but do meat rabbits, chickens and garden. I did put up cattle panel arched trellises this year for the first time to extend some growing area to vertical. Prayed for you Sarah this morning for the Lord's hand in your healing and for you to be sure to take it easy long enough. Have a great day and thanks for always sharing what you do. Such an inspiration.
I did see the silkies. I had 2 white, 1 buff and a black hen. And a black rooster we called dad. He took care of all the chicks and he didn't crow, he opened his beak and made the most awful screech. Once we got used to it, it was really amusing. We had a couple of extra roosters we put in the freezer. Don't bother everything about them is black and tastes horrible. You should get some frizzles, they're great fun! I miss my mini farm. I love your videos, it takes me back.
Those ducks came out running then there was confusion, looked like they were thinking where is the grub, they are hiding it from us ha ha. Usually they come out running and flapping. Nice to see the ducks again, I sure have missed them. Those duck and chicken hoops were beautifully made Kevin, and Sarah is looking good after her operation and is very happy with the hoops. Well done. The farm yard on the new farm is looking good. Have you given the new farm a Name? Have a great day.
Robbie and Gary simple gardening uses tulle fabric wrapped around things to keep out rodents etc. It might help you around the legs of the next boxes. She also uses it to cover veggies when young and birds want to eat them, helps with bugs too. Like moths wanting to lay eggs on tomatoes etch.
Sarah you look wonderful,so glad to see you taking things easy, Great job Kevin on the hoop coops, looks like the birds think so too. Take care and God Bless...
Love that the plywood is inside the door! No opening the door to chicken yuck within the frame, when they smoosh into the door while yelling to be let out in the morning. Can you guess how I know this? haha Clever use of materials, all around. Really loved the latch fix/grace space idea in previous video too.
Great little houses for the chicken & ducks. You have done a great job Kevin. Was happy to see Sarah too. Please take good care of her Kevin. And let her keep rest everyday. Hope the chicken&ducks like it at the new land. God bless you all. Love from Lenie❤🙏🙏
You all have some nice living quarters for your chickens and ducks and they will appreciate it during the hot months and be nice and warm in the cold months as well. The buildings look great and have to nice and comfortable.
I love the shelters. I don't have chickens, ducks, and any livestock. But I do love plants. The plan will work for a greenhouse with clear plastic. Nice ideal.
NICE! I was going to say; LUCKY DUCKS...but then you added the chickens so...LUCKY CHICKS too! WELL DONE KEVIN and WELL DONE SARAH (for NOT helping out Kevin) ! Health and God's continued abundant blessings upon you n' yours!
I made a run like this. It was very heavy. We had a storm come through and the wind caught it just right and rolled it across my yard. Please make sure you stake it down.
A tip for when moving chickens to a new location. keep them in their new coop for at least two nights so they get used to it. When letting them out for the first time, do it at the end of the day just a few hours before dusk, that way they don't have time to stray too far from their new coop. Thanks for the great idea for the portable coops I'll definitely be building some of these for my new poultry.
Your Black silkies are so cute. Silkies go broody often, great sitters. I had a variety of them, I also had Polish. They are not heavy layers but fun to have, they are quirky.
Shalo,! So happy to hear that your lovely wife Sarah is recovery from her surgery very well. It is our prayer that she fully recover and gain her strength physically and spiritually in Our Lord. We miss seeing her beautiful smiling face. We like your new hoop coops and they look like they would be perfect on our pastures too. Now, Kevin do you move the flocks to another home for the winter? Blessings to you and yours.
This may sound weird, but when I get overwhelmed with things I have to do and learn, I just come back and watch another one of your videos... does not matter when the video was made, it is still a treasure watching you guys working your homestead. Love you guys!!
I do, too! I'll bet a lot of people do.
It's a other "flow" on the homestead, i think.
Would love an update on how these hoop coops worked through the winter.
Hey Kimberly! Not sure if they made a video on that or not, but when I had built these in past, I tacked up tarp over the higher open places too with zip ties, and then just took it down afterwards, and we had snow and everything and ours did fine in there, with their body heat it was nice and toasty. Thanks for letting the ducks be ducks and chickens be chickens!

I really like the hoop coops, gotta save this video
We built a hoop coop that we made into a tractor. We also added a small kiddie pool for the ducks! Great video and God bless!
Please use some eye protection. Good video
We tried ducks , but they are so messy and a lot of work , they always trash there water and soak everything , i had to get rid of them but i didn't want to because the eggs are so much better than chicken eggs IMO!
I like watching the rabbits as the ducks & chickens come out. Rabbits "There goes the neighborhood, nothing but quackers from sun up to sun set!".
Good morning. Thankful for what you teach about gardening and your sweet testimony for Christ.

Plumbers tape forever ! It’s a great choice, nice job folks.
