- This week Kevin is building a new hoop coop for our ducks and giving the chicken hoop coop some upgrades. We need to keep the animals safe and this should do the trick!

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Tuesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Would love an update on how these hoop coops worked through the winter.
Hey Kimberly! Not sure if they made a video on that or not, but when I had built these in past, I tacked up tarp over the higher open places too with zip ties, and then just took it down afterwards, and we had snow and everything and ours did fine in there, with their body heat it was nice and toasty. Only thing I would do different after that winter, lol was for winter get the coop near an electric outlet, and buy that water heater thingy that Carolina Coops uses in their big water drums...and feed that in and have the big water thing in the coop/warm enough to not freeze b/c our hoses/nozzles/their waters were freezing every morning and carrying out gallons of water from the house everyday to fill the waterers with got old real quick! Then would just do deep bed method in that hoop coop til snow/cold passes enough, shovel it out into compost when done and move coop after snow part of winter passes. :)
We were in zone 8 though so if Colder....instead of tarp, maybe could try sheet metal or plywood? I dunno if it lasted super long if the tarp would've been good enough for the chickens but the ducks, they were good.
@@learninladyhomesteader9374 They did make a video wherein they inserted plywood panels to cover the higher open spaces during the colder months. They think of solutions long before I even know there might be a problem.
This may sound weird, but when I get overwhelmed with things I have to do and learn, I just come back and watch another one of your videos... does not matter when the video was made, it is still a treasure watching you guys working your homestead. Love you guys!!
I do, too! I'll bet a lot of people do.
It's a other "flow" on the homestead, i think.
Love that the plywood is inside the door! No opening the door to chicken yuck within the frame, when they smoosh into the door while yelling to be let out in the morning. Can you guess how I know this? haha Clever use of materials, all around. Really loved the latch fix/grace space idea in previous video too.
Good morning, Missouri Friends!
Sarah glad you are doing good after your surgery
Great video sarah is looking better God bless
Those little fuzzy silkie chickens are so cute!
Do they lay eggs?
Thank you for Sara's update, glad to hear she's doing fine. Like the hoop coop!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Making one today thanks for the walk through!! Love yalls channel
Robbie and Gary simple gardening uses tulle fabric wrapped around things to keep out rodents etc. It might help you around the legs of the next boxes. She also uses it to cover veggies when young and birds want to eat them, helps with bugs too. Like moths wanting to lay eggs on tomatoes etch.
Great job. Happy to see that sarah is doing áll right.
I really like your hoop coops. Wish our tiny property was bigger so I could do those. We only have 50X100' space including what the old mobile home we live in sets on so limited space, but do meat rabbits, chickens and garden. I did put up cattle panel arched trellises this year for the first time to extend some growing area to vertical. Prayed for you Sarah this morning for the Lord's hand in your healing and for you to be sure to take it easy long enough. Have a great day and thanks for always sharing what you do. Such an inspiration.
You have a lovely flock. And your design gives me so many ideas.
Love the charge of the ducks. Chickens are such chickens.........haha. Great job on the hoop coops. Looks like they could be easily moveable too.
Love your work guys.
Three suggestions (maybe I got it wrong please give me feedback):
1. swap the sequence of chook wire & plastic cover (so the chook wire stops the plastic from making a noise in strong winds and also protects it longer).
2. Use bricks to raise the wooden rectangular foundation off the grass (to prevent water rot).
3. when you place the chicken wire over the structure cut it a bit longer and bury the extra underground (to prevent foxes from digging a hole under and killing your chickens. Also helps keep snakes out).
Your Black silkies are so cute. Silkies go broody often, great sitters. I had a variety of them, I also had Polish. They are not heavy layers but fun to have, they are quirky.
Sara. You are looking super. Yes, the silkies are awesome, they are a very broody bird. We had some back in the mid sixties. Ours were white. I really want to get some more. Please take care and be safe. Joice
I made a run like this. It was very heavy. We had a storm come through and the wind caught it just right and rolled it across my yard. Please make sure you stake it down.
You gave my wife and I some ideas. We are from Southeast Missouri.
And gravity is helping you hold down the vinyl. Nice
Well done Kevin :) thanks for sharing.
I did see the silkies. I had 2 white, 1 buff and a black hen. And a black rooster we called dad. He took care of all the chicks and he didn't crow, he opened his beak and made the most awful screech. Once we got used to it, it was really amusing. We had a couple of extra roosters we put in the freezer. Don't bother everything about them is black and tastes horrible. You should get some frizzles, they're great fun! I miss my mini farm. I love your videos, it takes me back.
This looks great. I built one with just 2 cattle panels also. We put the covering on, then put chicken wire over it. Also made a window like door in the back so we could retrieve the eggs without having to enter the coop.
I like watching the rabbits as the ducks & chickens come out. Rabbits "There goes the neighborhood, nothing but quackers from sun up to sun set!".
Loved the video you are a kind and loving man looking after your wife and family the way you do Coops are great well done all. Carol
Hoops Coops look neat nice job Kevin 👍
Glad Sarah doing well. Glad she is taking it easy and you are helping her rest!👍👍🤲
Good morning. Thankful for what you teach about gardening and your sweet testimony for Christ.
The coops look awesome!! Great job Kevin and Sara I’m glad you’re feeling well... God Bless
You could put some cinder blocks or paver blocks around the bottom for preditor protection.
I think there great. I love the bay animals
Looks gr8t. You have some silkie's they are so dang cute. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
I've watched many styles of coop builds and I have everything I need (except the vinal)I'm doing it this weekend.
We built a hoop coop that we made into a tractor. We also added a small kiddie pool for the ducks! Great video and God bless!
Please use some eye protection. Good video
We tried ducks , but they are so messy and a lot of work , they always trash there water and soak everything , i had to get rid of them but i didn't want to because the eggs are so much better than chicken eggs IMO!
I watched your hoop coop video a few weeks ago ..to make my ducks a hoop coop they been in for a while and love it
Thanks for your videos! Getting ready to put the perch in...
I love watching your videos !
Great as alwas thanks kevin you explain everything going to build one for my chickens.
These came out great! Thanks for sharing!
I was so excited to see your video this morning! Love the coops
I love watching you guys God Bless.
I used to have a little farm in Drury... we'd go to Ava often because we were within 30 min of Mountain Grove, Ava & West Plains.. nice area! we homesteaded there for about 6 years... a long time ago. Love your videos.
Absolutely love this channel
Great build. Thanks for such awesome information and directions too.
I just found this and loved seeing it. Great job, as usual.
Thanks for the video. ❤❤❤
You look great Sara! Great job!
I love these guys!
Thank you for this video! I am about to build a hoop coop this size (8ft x 8ft). I am watching all of your videos in preparation to make sure I am not missing anything.
Your second homestead seems to be working out beautifully for you. Kevin it seems whatever you are faced with you just get to work and find a way to get things done. Sarah you look so rested I am glad you are taking care of yourself. Mama always takes care of everyone but I learned the hard way after surgery that sometimes others need to take care of Mama. Blessings.
Nice job. Working on getting my hoop coop finished. 1/2 way there. Hope to have it completed very soon. Thanks for sharing. I've learned a lot from you guys. Blessings and Shalom.
Love the coops.
Good morning! Kevin great build. Sarah you look great. Loved seeing the 🦆. Have a great day. God bless
I really like your ducks.
That was a big job! Way to go!
Sarah I'm glad you're feeling better. Glad to see you up and about.
Здоровья вам побольше. видио снимайте они интересны.и мне нравится .что вы вместе с женой делаете курятник.это мило.
Love your channel. Always good content! Thank you!
Great job. Sara love your dembles.
Good job Kevin!
I have had a sever deer problem for many years and have rarely eaten a tomatoes from my garden. Well, that stops now. The hoop coop/green house I just built will prevent the deer out of my garden. Thanks for the idea. too, late for this year but it will be a greenhouse next year and a garden protector.
Nest eggs will encourage ducks to lay where you want. I have had good success with nest eggs!
Kevin is expert in designing and executing the projects.
Your silkies are so beautiful
THANK YUO . GOOD GOOD .GOOD .
Looks great Kevin.
I loved the ducks reaction! Oops where are we! 🤣🤣🤣
Kevin I would leave the end tarps,. cut where they could be pulled back in heat and back in place for the winter.
No vid today ... that's what rummaging through videos from ''yesteryear'' is for :) Rest and heal, dear girl.
wow I love ur hoop coops. awesome job you guys
awsome youve got black silkies
Greetings neighbor, I would likely have used a 2x4 and rolled the tarp around it then screwed it to the base of the hoop coop instead of the fender washers. It would not only secure the tarp but would slow down varmints (mostly snakes) from coming through the sides.
I like the added plywood protection. Good job. Praying for healing for Sarah. God bless you and yours!
Y’all are such an inspiration to so many !! 🥰💙🗳👏🤗
The coops look great and animal are very happy to be in the new place.
Such a helpful video, thank you!
Looks great!. I have to say I love how you roll. Yes animals don't care what tge things look like, only that they are fed and safe. My husband and I are the same,,the things have to function,,pretty can come later, once we have a better sense of what is working and whether it is worth putting more time and money into the project,,, with full time jobs, kids and other commitments,,, many times it is not worth the extra energy.
I just love this one I'm in OKC I have some chickens I'm raising and I'm gonna build this for them
Thank you for the update on Sara..we will be building a couple of hoop coops for our geese & chickens..God Bless!!
The 2 silkies are gorgeous... so amused by the ducks. like " where are we?" ummmmmm. don't know"! haha.... wonderful, made my day .....
I love your hoop coops.
Sarah you look wonderful,so glad to see you taking things easy, Great job Kevin on the hoop coops, looks like the birds think so too. Take care and God Bless...
Thank you
I wouldn't have cut that billboard material tarp. I would have rolled the ends up on 2x4 strips of wood like a spool, stretched the tarp tight, and fastened the tarp securely at the bottom. That way if you need the tarp in the future for other projects it's still the same size as it was in the beginning.
They look fantastic. Bless you all.
I really like the hoop coops, gotta save this video
The ducks ALWAYS make me smile. Thank you.
Nice job looking good.👍🏼😆
What a great day on the homestead, 🌻 Super job on those hoop-coops Kevin. We pray Sarah is recovering nicely. 🕯🙏
Those are fabulous hoop coops. What a fun video to watch at the end. I loved watching them all come out to explore their new homes.
Praying that Sarah is taking it easy. Thank you for sharing and God bless ❤️
Great video.....thank you for sharing
Nice duck house
Totally enjoyed this video!! Great way to start my morning!!!
Colene 💞🤗
Amazing job ! and what a simple design. Glad your doin great sarah .
Looks great.
Sarah looking good!prayers for your continued healing.
Was wondering if everyone found the coup after first day out. Great video
Awesome, but I would’ve used hardware cloth because it has more predator production
I love it thank you so much
Good to see Sarah this morning. Glad she's recovering well, and will continue prayers for your family.
If you put that bracket attached one row up you could slide up the nest boxes to move this hoop house.
