For those who have predators like raccoons, never use chicken wire. We’ve had predators it holes in chicken wire, pull the chicken heads out, and bite the heads off as a snack. Hardware cloth is the way to go.
I had the same issue although the chicken wire wasn't damaged. I think it was probably a raccoon because they have the most manual dexterity with their hands. Whatever it was though tore the chicken out through the chicken wire in pieces.
Apart from seeing this wonderful ideas you show, it's so sweet seeing you working hand in hand as couple, it's so amazing I love your team work....May the good Lord bless you
That structure can be used for a lot of things: chicken coop; greenhouse; crop protection; dog kennel; etc. Heck, it can also be used as a child's playhouse. 😁. Thanks for sharing!
I commented on this but since you said dog kennel - I am needing a cat-pen as some of my cats need to be cooler in the summer and outside and they can't mix with the other cats outside so thought about hard ware (hardwire) cloth with the panels and then some on the outside ground to keep predators from digging in....Please tell me what you think? I need an affordable, easy build for my cats. Thanks
Built a greenhouse using these methods on a 2"×10" base. Works great and the first year had 18" of snow on top with no issues at all. Cattle panels are a fantastic material.
Retiring in 2 mths time. This is a perfect model for a beginner like me to copy. Much easier and cheaper to construct. You’re blessed guys. Thanks a lot.
Any ideas? I love this idea because there's an irrigation pipe that runs underneath my chicken run and this technique is all above ground.@@cancelchannel3394
I enjoy watching the 2 of you working together. You are lucky to have one another. Ive always wanted to live the lifestyle that you guys have but my wife isnt into it and you kind of need 2 people working together to make it successful. awesome videos.
Cattle panels, if memory serves me right, are 16' by 4 ft, 4 in tall, so the wooden frame could be made an extra foot long if wanted. A few yrs ago, I used 7 panels to make a 30+ foot frame for a quick "greenhouse." (And it's still strong, by the way.)
We have had chickens for several years until a fox and others got them all seven in a close time proximity. We have seen several coops I have even considered turning our greenhouse into a chicken coop. We saw a hoop coop but expensive it was. I can make it so will do so. I then will need to build the chicken house with nesting boxes for them. Just another word. We enjoy the fact that you folk are Bible people who trust God and check with Him and are not afraid on your youtube sessions to speak of Him and honor Him. We watch often. Keep at it. I am a 74+ year old retired pastor/teacher who continues to teach as a adjunct in our local Bible college. We served in missions in Brazil, Portugal, Guyana and Saipan so had no retirement. God blessed us with a house (livable but needing repairs) on a little over an acre on which we almost immediately planted fruit trees, grapes, then raspberries, gooseberries, kiwi, strawberries and various cultivated plots as well as boxes I have made. We even bought a Formal cub almost as old as I am which we recently sold. We have seen our Lord provide in various ways for our needs. We enjoy watching your youtube because you too are not afraid to seek HIS face for wisdom.
Your video was very helpful. My wife and I finished our run in about a day. I love the build and the structure is very sound' Thank you very much. Sincerely Cobb Mountian Chickens.
Nice job. We used cattle panels on some chicken hoop houses. We used 4X4’s along the bottom and put folding wheel/axles so they can be towed around. For covering material, we used corrugated galvanized steel sheets.
I built my coop nearly identical to this one. One thing I did differently is to add two support boards, front to back, on the top of the door frame on the inside. It gave a little more front to back stability on the top in the wind and gave me a place to run a light and hang a hook for when I need to feed inside on really rainy, stormy days.
Kevin. Why cut that last pane.? It could have been used in the middle to give you a stronger joint at the overlap ( and when/if you get rid of the chickens at a later date the panels are still whole for reuse. Just a thought.

Y’all have great ideas and I have to admit. I have copied quite a few of them and they’ve worked great. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos.

The first hoops we made, we did 10 feet wide. The next set, we made 8 feet wide. Here in upstate NY, we learned that the taller, narrower hoops will readily shed snow. The older one does not, and I have to go out with a snow shovel or garden rake (I hold the rake tines up!) and pull the snow off the tarp. Another thing we learned - my husband didn't pay attention to which way the ribs ran, on the cattle panels. You want the ribs that run the long way facing out! At only 8' the panel that runs across the short way will still shed snow, but sometimes it takes longer than the other one.
You guys are great! We did our chicken coup in a day! Hahahha! We didn’t cut the cattle panels, just had it overlapped. Need to support the lumbers with corner bars and the base held on real tight! Thank you so much for this great idea! ♥️

You guys, your skills are mad. My first video I am excited to see your other videos. Thank you so much. I love your teamwork! Good luck with everything you do. Look forward to seeing y'alls next one.
Oh my gosh I love this! We always have cattle panels here with our farm and lumber laying around. I think I may see about making two. One for a new chicken pen (always need another one of those) and one for a greenhouse. I've never had a greenhouse before and really want one and have wanted one for years. This looks inexpensive enough to do. Thank you! ~ Ashley
@ Ashley Capps , For a greenhouse or a coop , I use 2" X 12" as a base and attach the cattle panel to the top of the base. Using the same kind of attachment that Kevin does. That way I can have much more width and still have enough height for head room. I use 2" X 3" for the other lumber framework. I also have some very strong raccoons so I use 1 /2 " hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. For weather protection of a coop , I only cover one half. I know which way my prevailing wind blows so the open end is facing away from the wind. It does take some figuring but you can collect rainwater from the roof covering to automatically provide water for the chickens. I collect the rain water into a five gallon bucket with water nipples. I hate to carry water at my age. It works very well. Once or twice a week I add a cup of apple cider vinegar. I have enough rain so that I never have to fill the bucket.
We all have “rules” we live by and yours are different than mine, BUT...... I never cut anything I can leave whole. That way, if time goes on and something needs to be redone I have everything still in whole pieces. I only say this in relation to cutting off 6 inches instead of overlapping. Love the videos.
I thought that too. I would just overlap them for extra (probably unneeded) stability, and by not cutting them they have flexibility later to reconfigure and those panels are seriously are a B to cut anyway! My thoughts exactly.
@@jp-hh9xq Slightly overlapping the cattle panels definitely gives it more strength, which does come in handy if you get any kind of snow load on it in the wintertime.
It’s a good simple design with some small chicken wire at the bottom this would be perfect for my chicks growing to layer age, it’s perfect and easy and inexpensive thanks for sharing
Kevin, reference the fencing staples, Big Box stores usually carry smooth fence staples, you may want to check for barbed fence staples. The barbs help keep them from pulling out. Small thing but a game changer.
It'd be really great if you guys could post in your comments on your next video where you got them hinges. They look really cool with the braces and I'm sure they're very sturdy and it makes the frame very simple to build. Thanks for the introduction of those repurposed hinges!
Also, I am using hardware cloth instead of chicken wire to keep predators out. It’s pricey but in one bad day you can lose your entire flock. Amazon is cheaper for hardware cloth.
Thanks to Living Traditions, I made one of these with help from family. It is very sturdy and has withstood high wind and hail. I also suggest the chicken feeder and water. Going on vacation was a lot easier for family to tend to chicks while my husband and I were away from home.
Hi guys! Love it. Can’t wait to see the finish product. We just order 15 chicks 🐥 and we need a new chicken coop and this is perfect..... hubby better get ready😂. Thank you for your videos, I enjoy every single one of them . Have a blessed day 🙏🏼
Love this project! Looks easy enough to do. Am going to show my husband this design for our soon to be ducklings! Thank you so much! Just found your channel today! Signed up after the first video!!! Can’t wait to see more! ❤😊
That’s the best coop ever, Tim! I’m amazed at how well you two figure things out. It’s a beautiful harmony between soulmates with a goal in mind. You’re very unique people. ❤️❤️❤️
Like the use of pipe hanger. I hate the staples too, but because I don't like vibrating the frame. An R clip might be ok too and uses just one screw. Overall I think this is just brilliant.
No need to cut panels, just overlap, will make whole structure stronger.
Like!
That’s what I do!
Or do what the $#& you like and make it look nice! :) awesome work!
Oh yeah, you can overlap in the middle
How long are the cow panels
For those who have predators like raccoons, never use chicken wire. We’ve had predators it holes in chicken wire, pull the chicken heads out, and bite the heads off as a snack. Hardware cloth is the way to go.
After reading your comment, I realized that you were absolutely right.
Oh my God. That's not good.

Excellent idea... I was just thinking I couldn't do it cause I couldn't cut it myself... well John, with your idea I can do this.
You can cut the panels with an angle grinder. Wear safety glasses or face shield and a work coat.

One for a new chicken pen (always need another one of those) and one for a greenhouse. I've never had a greenhouse before and really want one and have wanted one for years. This looks inexpensive enough to do. Thank you! ~ Ashley
@ Ashley Capps ,
For a greenhouse or a coop , I use 2" X 12" as a base and attach the cattle panel to the top of the base.
I just did this based on your example and I love it ....Thank you.
This design would make a good diy greenhouse too!
Exactly what I was thinking just make it whatever size you need for your own property..
They do. And are the hands down best garden trellis.
What would you cover it with for greenhouse effect?
Greenhouse plastic. I think greenhouse mega supply has sheets you can buy.
Good 👍 idea
Love this design and I agree with the person below, this would make a great greenhouse too. God Bless you all and thanks for sharing.
Y’all are going to have a wonderful chicken home. God bless y’all.
👏👏💞
Like anything with farming, you do the best you can with what you've got. Including weather and time!
👏👏😘
👏👏💗
Union carpenter / remodeler… bravo on the easy steps and clear ways to tie things down. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks 👍
I wish there was a Love button! After watching this, I feel like this a doable project. Thank you!
❤️ In the emojis that is if you are able to get them.
We've now built 2 of these! One houses our turkeys. The other houses our meat chickens. So easy to build and a great budget friendly option.
We all have “rules” we live by and yours are different than mine, BUT...... I never cut anything I can leave whole. That way, if time goes on and something needs to be redone I have everything still in whole pieces. I only say this in relation to cutting off 6 inches instead of overlapping.
Love the videos.
Great philosophy!👏👏🤷♀️💞 we just *never* know what's coming down the road...😘
👏👏👏👏😘
I thought that too. I would just overlap them for extra (probably unneeded) stability, and by not cutting them they have flexibility later to reconfigure and those panels are seriously are a B to cut anyway! My thoughts exactly.
@@jp-hh9xq Slightly overlapping the cattle panels definitely gives it more strength, which does come in handy if you get any kind of snow load on it in the wintertime.
I would've gotten longer 2x4's
It’s a good simple design with some small chicken wire at the bottom this would be perfect for my chicks growing to layer age, it’s perfect and easy and inexpensive thanks for sharing
Kevin, reference the fencing staples, Big Box stores usually carry smooth fence staples, you may want to check for barbed fence staples. The barbs help keep them from pulling out. Small thing but a game changer.
Ty
Tractor Supply has them if there’s one near you.
Thank you for the perfect instruction- it will help me a lot by building an entrance for my bunnys coop! Really appreciate it!
It'd be really great if you guys could post in your comments on your next video where you got them hinges. They look really cool with the braces and I'm sure they're very sturdy and it makes the frame very simple to build. Thanks for the introduction of those repurposed hinges!
I would like to find those hinges as well.
Amazon - gate corner brace bracket there are several available approx $30-40 for a set of 4
I would just like to know how they attach the chicken wire to the metal
Also, I am using hardware cloth instead of chicken wire to keep predators out. It’s pricey but in one bad day you can lose your entire flock. Amazon is cheaper for hardware cloth.
@Wakeywhodat I get a roll of 25ft & 3ft high for like 60 bucks @ lowes. Is it cheaper than that?
Thanks to Living Traditions, I made one of these with help from family. It is very sturdy and has withstood high wind and hail. I also suggest the chicken feeder and water. Going on vacation was a lot easier for family to tend to chicks while my husband and I were away from home.
Hi guys! Love it. Can’t wait to see the finish product. We just order 15 chicks 🐥 and we need a new chicken coop and this is perfect..... hubby better get ready😂. Thank you for your videos, I enjoy every single one of them . Have a blessed day 🙏🏼
Ellerinize sağlık çok güzel ve pratik bir fikir çok teşekkürler iyi çalışmalar
I hope you all survived the storm ok yesterday! It was CRAZY! I'm hope all is well with you!
Love this project! Looks easy enough to do. Am going to show my husband this design for our soon to be ducklings! Thank you so much! Just found your channel today! Signed up after the first video!!! Can’t wait to see more! ❤😊
That is an awesome design. My wife and I are going to use this design for a greenhouse. 👍
I really appreciated your job.I want to copy your idea as soon as possible.Easy to build and I a lot affordable.
That’s the best coop ever, Tim! I’m
amazed at how well you two figure things out. It’s a beautiful harmony between soulmates with a goal in mind. You’re very unique people. ❤️❤️❤️
- KEVIN-
Thank you I am using this idea and simple for me! My chickens thank you, I attaching a pallet coup to back for them
I would like that as a lil greenhouse!! ❤️
Good idea.
Like the use of pipe hanger. I hate the staples too, but because I don't like vibrating the frame. An R clip might be ok too and uses just one screw. Overall I think this is just brilliant.
