Jon being trampled was important. Until that point, since he came back from the dead, he'd just been going through the motions. This was the first time he started fighting for his life again. The first time he WANTED to live since coming back. His proper rebirth of sorts.
Yep, they really charged 70+ horses at Kit Harrington for that shot, the horses stopped about six feet away from him. It was actually dangerous to shoot.
@@pulse-anjalidesilva4303 yeah if you look at behind the scenes footage, you can clearly see that same calvary charging Kit Harrington, except, OBVIOUSLY it's much smaller. I actually made this joke where they were filming this, and Kit Harrington is thinking to himself, "Why is no one yelling cut? Why is no one yelling cut?!"
There was a lot of CGI and Green Screen in this episode. There may have been a lot of horses charging Jon for real but they used a technique called "Forced Perspective". The Bolton horses were not as close to Jon as they seemed.
See the shield Jon picked up when Ramsay was shooting at him? That's house Mormont, one of the 62 men Lyanna Mormont supplied made it all the way into Winterfell
Her Sensei/Cersei would have been proud, lol. And not a lot of people got to know she did this; she keeps her 'little dove' face for the general public but she's a different animal now....
One of my favorite little details in this episode was Melissandre watching the banner of the Boltons go down in Winterfell. In episode seven in the last season, she told Stannis that she saw a big battle in the snow. And when he had doubts to win the battle she said: "I have seen myself walk along the battlements of Winterfell. I have seen the flayed man banners lowered to the ground." That's why she was so certain, that Stannis would win. Too bad the Lord Of Light didn't show her which banner was the one that was rolled out after that.
Steven: "He's playing mind games with him..." like a half-second later- Ramsay: "Let's play a game." hilariously good timing despite everything that's happening haha
When Ramsay said "I am a part of you now", a lot of people speculated that it means that Sansa is pregnant, but I think it means that Sansa got part of his cruelty in her now, she is changed forever now
KazakovOleg i think he was just desperate to talk shit because he knew it was over. She wanted revenge on someone who abused her, tortured her, and hurt her family. I think that a lot more people would want the same thing.
There's also an old idea that people had throughout the ages about how the man that takes a woman's virginity changes her forever, makes her more like him and makes her future children look like him too even if he's not the father. Dumb shit obviously, but that's what many believed back then, and also part of the reason why widows and women who had sex before marriage were often considered worthless
It would've been neat if that did but I'm glad that it didn't happen even though I never thought it would anyways. They could then make a second series about the child grows up with rumors about his heritage and becomes a serial killer. All the while the baby roose bolton had with lady walda somehow escaped the hounds and wants to avenge his father and bring back the bolton name lmao
Lyanna was right about the strength of Mormont men. Despite there being only 62 of them one of them still managed to make it that far to leave the shield that Jon used to defend himself.
I had always liked it cause in a way, Lord Mormont was there to help Jon, as Jon did go back to Craster's Keep and avenge his death. But your take on it is much more realistic, and equally awesome. :)
Fun fact, when Jon was facing the charging army of Ramsey the actor Kit actually stood in front of 40 some odd charging horses. Said it was one of the scariest things he’s done.
It was one of the most cinematic television episodes I’ve ever seen. Ramsay ‘s statement to Sansa was even more sinister, he meant that he had scarred her so much that he will have a hold on her forever.
I'm happy it went this way. Iwan was obviously LOVING this evil role. And personally I loved watching how enjoyably evil he was. Truly it looked like he was having fun with being so nasty
@@lynnjohanssen6552 I can't remember the name of the show, but he plays like this really sweet dorky kid that lives in the same apartment building as two old gay men and he is believable. I saw that show first and was very surprised by Ramsey. Sophie Turner said it's actually really weird for her because he's like the sweetest guy ever same with Gleason. Obviously I am paraphrasing.
What's funny about that is that I watched another girl react to this episode and then that walking dead episode. When tormund ripped the mans throat she was squealing and cheering, but when she saw Rick do it she gasped and said, "omg that's disgusting." And I was like, "abbie you saw the exact same thing 3 days ago!!" Lolololol Hahahaha
I swear. The musical score on this episode alone blew me away. The Mormont sigil on the shield that protected Jon from Ramsey's arrows...a freaking nice touch.
H o l y s h i t they’ve made it to battle of the bastards, who else been here since day 1!!! I’ve been waiting for this I jumped when I got the notification
I've been here since day 1. I just sneaked off for an extra break at work just to watch these 2 episodes. Poor Nikki, this one really is savage! More awesomeness to come. Great video.xxx
The shortest and fastest way between 2 points is a straight line. Besides there's a whole battalion of archers, if Ramsey missed they will finish the job.
No. First of all it just takes way more time to zig zag than to run in a straight line, and second, when a freakin psycho is shooting arrows at you, you don't think about zig zaging, you just run for your life. We should all agree to let Rickon rest in peace and stop with that zig zag comment.
Kudos to Kit Harington for pulling his choreography off so well for that one shot fight scene. Scenes like these might not get him awards but he has my respect. And ofcourse Miguel Sapochnik's direction is incredible. That shot of horses running down towards Jon & him unbuckling his sword is my fav. shot in the series. And those were real horses running towards him, not Cgi. So i guess stunt department & costume department, props department. Everyone involved in this show is worth an applause.
"Scenes like these might not get him awards but he has my respect." I agree wholeheartedly. I've had to defend Harington as an actor and performer to people who have said he's not a very good actor. He may be a bit stiff when it comes to dialogue sometimes (although, I think it works for Jon and makes the times when he does really emote all the more powerful, IMO), but his ability to totally inhabit Jon's physical experience is really impressive. You really believe he's in the middle of an intense fight. His pain and exhaustion really shows. I remember back after season 5 had aired and there was poll on WinterisComing for who the MVP of the season was for acting, and while it was tempting to give it to Lena Headey for the Walk of Shame alone, I truly thought Harington deserved it for really bringing Jon into his own that season. And a big part of what had impressed me was his performance in Hardhome. Both his speech to the wildlings in the hut, but also for his physical performance during the battle scene. And not just the fighting, but also his disoriented state after the White Walker hits him to the ground and then he kills it. That shot of him epicly doubling over in the snow afterwards feels practically Shakespearean in fashion, but somehow it doesn't feel melodramatic. I think that's harder to pull off than most people really realize, and perhaps it's something that even Kit needs to be expertly directed by a guy like Sapochnik in order to accomplish. Either way, I wish acting awards considered more than just emotional dialogue scenes. Good action acting is a fine art too.
AWS Vids, for me the acting it was actually one of the high points of the following season. Although there's plenty of action, all of the actors gave a much better POV character performance. Many dialogue scenes gave me a Sopranos vibe, like they were cut too early in the conversation. The actors were amazing at giving us this vibe, some more than others granted. Headey & Dinklage are guru masters at this. Williams & Turner not so much, lol, but we tend to forget how young they still were.
I loved when he got up from the ground and saw the charging cavalry. he looked down nodding his head knowing his mistake, and instantly accepted death. but pulled out his sword and wasn't going down without a fight. just imagine that situation. such a brave moment.
@@anafreitas1646 That was a Dothraki witch thing, not the Lord of Light. Lots of characters die so its hard to say, but Shireen died 4 episodes before Jon came back, you'd have better sense with Roose Bolton being the one who died to pay for his life.
@@gandhialwaysleavesanonion679 Except that Melissandre had nothing to do with Roose Boltons death. And that theme runs throughout the series...the faceless men believe it also.
The budget for this episode alone was probably bigger than the budget for the last couple seasons of Walking Dead. So intense, so incredibly well directed, acted, written, and scored. One of the best battles I've seen in any film, let alone TV show.
I think I might be the only one who didn't particularly like the battle. I mean it was okay, but the one in season 2 in black water bay was better in my opinion.
My favourite battle scene of all time is the whole battle for Pelennor Fields in Return of the King. So good. Seen it so many times, and it still gives me chills. But yeah, Battle of the Bastards is easily in my top 5 battle scenes in TV and Film.
The scene where jon gets trampelled is actually a very important scene as it was Kit haringtons, the actor of Jon, idea to include it. It shows the true rebirth of jon. Before the battle..he just fought because he thought it was his duty. He was fine with dying. Thats why he doesent wanted to be ressurrected again. Kit described it something along this way "at first he thinks about just giving up. Be over with it. He accepts death..but then he looks up to the light and decides to fight back..thats the true rebirth, the real Moment Jon came back to live."
The cinematography and spectacle of it is indeed incredible. But the writing is a bit corny compared to earlier seasons (as was typical of Seasons 5-8).
I think when Ramsey said “ I’m a part of you now” ... he was implying to all the psychological damages he inflicted on her and that did leave permanent scars. While Sansa had been beat down in kings landing, she still held some hope. She trusted the Tyrells, hoped she could marry loras. There were small glimmers but that was really crushed by Ramsey. Remember what she said to Jon “ no one can protect anyone”... she lost it all sense of hope in heroes and good endings. She is now a much more cold and calculated person bc of what happened. She loves Jon but couldn’t really trust him to tell him the whole truth and that’s the fuck up part.
Gandhi Always Leaves an Onion i was so excited when they announced that David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik are gonna be the only ones directing all of season 8, well expect for the finale which will be directed by David and Dan
Zigzagging only works if there is hope of escape. The whole point was to draw Jon into the killzone for Ramsay's archers. Zigzagging would have only drawn Jon deeper into the trap.
It's arguable whether zig-zagging would have done anything, given how good of an archer Ramsay is and the limited space of the battlefield. Remember, Jon had set up the battlefield so that there was no entry, or escape, from the sides. (Tormund-voice... "Good.") Rickon could only have gone so far and would have been in Ramsay's range the whole time. Rickon's instinct, and probably his best bet, was to try to run out of range as soon as possible, and that means decking it as fast as possible in the opposite direction. Zig-zagging would have wasted time and kept him at closer range for longer. He did keep glancing back everytime Ramsay shot, trying to see the arrow and make his best effort to dodge it, but he likely couldn't see much against the sky and didn't know which way to go to dodge it... if going right would mean running right into it or going left would... again, his instinct remained to just run AWAY from it and towards Jon as fast as possible.
Karen HoboGirl It was the GoT editing, the smirk had just started right before episode ending. GoT version of the classic “walk away from the explosion you just caused”
I have no shame in admitting that I have a man crush on Jon Snow. Look at how he walks through his army on the horse at the beginning, thats what a leader looks like :)
Omg nikki crying makes Rickon's death even more dramatic. Even if Rickon had not much screentime he was still another stark who died. Actually Rickons life is one of the most tragic things in this show (He was only fcking 12 years old) but nobody realizes it. So let's say it together: Rest in peace Rickon Stark..... 😥
Just that one episode won SEVEN Emmys. At the Emmys, they award tech/writing/directing prizes to individual episodes. "Battle of the Bastards" is the one episode of television that has won the most Emmys ever.
@@nukenarwhal7244 I feel that way too. The battle also lacked the climate a bit in my opinion. Still a good entertainment. That just shows how good the whole show is.
14:20 I still say, the coldest, most savage moment of the entire show was the 5 seconds where Sansa turns to walk away, but stops, turns back and watches...
Yes! He who passes the sentence should swing the sword. 🗡️ It was a sign of her ferocious will & determination to fight for her honor, as a Stark. The only thing that would’ve topped that scene for me was if she had whistled to the dogs to signal them to kill, as Ramsey had done to his victims. But she didn’t even need to give an order, she let nature take its own revenge. 🐺
I think Sansa didn't tell Jon about the knights of the Vale, because she wasn't sure if they are coming or is Littlefinger just playing her. So she didn't want Jon to build up the plan counting on Littlefinger.
I still think she should have told him, he deserved to know for fighting for her. They could have made a plan A and a plan B. Personal opinion is that Sansa was very cold in this episode.
That's what I always thought too. She basically told him to f* off in an earlier episode, and that she didn't need him. Then she had to write to him and say just that, she needed him. She wasn't at all sure that he would show up.
She's the one that sent Little Finger away. Remember, Sweet Robin was like, "we should help her she's my cousin"? Then Sansa was like, you set me up with the Bolton's. Fuck Off!
The moment Jon stares Ramsey down with Wun Wun and Tormund standing next to him is one of my favorite moments of the show ever. He’s exhausted but the fury is real! I knew in that moment that Ramsey was done. The music was perfect in that moment. So intense!
Reasons stark men die: Ned: "I tried to follow my kings wishes while at the same time securing the true heir to the throne" Robb: "I gave up on an alliance because of true love" Rickon:......."I didnt learn how to run zigzag"
Fun facts: The horses are legit running at Kit and stopped right before running him down. The circle of people crushing Jon when he finds his way up for air is a call back to the circle of people embracing Dany and raising her up. To zig zag or not to zig zag tore the community apart and we still haven't recovered (this one is kind of a joke)
Actually Jon being crushed is a direct call back to the battle of cannae between the romans and carthage. In this battle phalanx soldiers, using very similar tactics we see in the battle of the bastards, pin Roman soldiers together so tightly they couldnt raise their limbs to defend themselves. George rr Martin is a huge history fan and drew almost everything from GOT from actual events throughout history. Even the wall is based on hadriens wall that marked the boundary between the civilized world and the monsters that lay beyond.
I think I remember hearing somewhere that they used a special camera lens to make it look as though the horses were closer to Jon then they really were. But yeah the horses were really running at Kit.
@@martinsharrett1872 I was not talking about that, I was literally talking about the part where Jon comes up from the crowd, still being crushed by the people around him, finally able to breathe, and the camera pans back. That is a call back to Dany and the people she freed holding her up and calling her Misa. You are not wrong about everything else, it's just not what I was talking about.
I feel like there a few reasons why Sansa didn't tell Jon about the Vale army. First of all, most likely she didn't know for sure whether they were coming, she sent the letter to LF but maybe he didn't send anything back. And she did basically tell him to f off earlier this season. She hoped that the Vale would come but she wasn't sure. If they didn't come and they had waited the weather could've changed and it would have been even harder for them to win. Secondly, she would've had to tell Jon why the Vale army would even make it in time, why they were at Moat Cailin and that she had refused the help LF had offered. And related to that the third point being, she would've had to have told him about her meeting with LF in the first place. She didn't want LF involved at all, she doesn't trust him. Also I feel like LF intentionally waited a bit longer to come just so that Jon's army was weakened as well, maybe he hoped for Jon to die in the battle so he could have Sansa and Winterfell for himself. Originally he wanted Stannis and Boltons to kill each other and then swoop in and destroy what little was left with the Vale army to take Winterfell.
Another thing to consider could be that she was afraid of what asking LF for help actually meant...like what she might be expected to return in payment. Or possibly that she might be worried that, although he desperately needed the men, Jon would refuse the help if she explained the whole situation to him...like refuse LF for honors sake?
Some people are angry at Sansa because they think she didnt care about Rickon. I don't think that's the case. She just knew that there was no way Ramsey was going to let him live past the battle and she was right. The only part that went according to plan was her part. Jon's plans went right out the window before the battle even started. She did good by not telling him in my opinion.
exactly. she knew what they were dealing with. they were never getting their brother back. jon didn't want to give up, as is his nature, but sansa played it very wisely.
Majic Moe Please, explain why not telling Jon about the army of the Vale was a good decision! They lost many men and Jon himself was almost killed by her not revealing that the Vale was behind them!
So, the debate continues but my thinking is that if the Knights of the Vale had showed up too early then Ramsay would have just stayed in Winterfell and it would have been a long drawn out siege. By keeping their pending arrival secret, Sansa tricked Ramsay into sending his army outside Winterfell where they were vulnerable. At least that's the story I tell myself.
I enjoy this story and I am also going to start telling it to myself. I mean she could have told Jon, but that's fine we'll just ignore that it's okay. I'm not being sarcastic towards you, I'm being sarcastic towards my own mind because we're going to ignore it and this is our story now.
victorsixtythree That's my thought exactly. Sansa played Ramsey's game the only way she could. She lured him & his army out the same way that she knew that Ramsey would lure Jon out. She couldn't control Jon's actions in the battle plan, but she could control her part in it.
Allyson Wonderland - yes, if you go with this idea the follow up question is certainly "why didn't she tell Jon her plan?". And this is where it gets interesting - maybe she thought if Jon knew help was coming, Jon would decide to go with a long drawn out siege which Sansa didn't want? Or maybe it wasn't a conscious decision to deceive him, she just wasn't sure what to do? Maybe she purposely allowed Jon to draw Ramsay's army out - a cold, ruthless strategy but similar to when Robb Stark sacrificed 2,000 men in order to surprise Jaime's army back in Season 1?
Ramsey brought the wolf out in Jon, forced it on himself. And then Ramsey turned to run like the scared little dog he is. Run away, I said. Winter is coming 🗡️ 🐺 ❄️
It's little details like that... most shows don't even care about continuity in scenes let alone details like that. How many time have we seen characters start a trip in the morning, travel half the planet on foot & still arrive in time for lunch? Yep, the new avarage viewer is sooooo done with crap like that, for good, after a show like GOT.
IDK if you guys noticed but the scene with Jon rising from those bodies parallels the scene with Daenerys arriving in Meereen in Mhysa (3x10) while the slaves embrace her. I love how Dany and Jon's stories tend to operate on a parallel plane. Even in this episode, they both had to participate in a great battle. As I said in a season 5 reaction, they've both grown so much as people and as leaders. Now I just need for Jon to listen to counsel.
My theory for why Sansa I didn’t tell Jon: she didn’t trust Baelish any more than she trusts anyone else at this point. She only trusts Baelish’s self-interest, and you never know what that truly is from one moment to the next. I don’t think that she was counting on Baelish for anything until they were actually right there at the battlefield.
yess that's what people don't get. She did not even think he was gonna show up until he did. John chose to act sooner than what sansa was telling him. She wanted to be sure
Jon had to ride forward at that point. That was the point of sending Riccon out there. To get Jon into the kill zone. Cant ride back after that. He'd be shot in the back. Forward was the only option .
Anon Ymes Even if jon wasnt thinking jon just letting rickon die would look bad on him either way the north was watching, his own men were watching he had no real choice here wether it was emotional or not rickon was the heir and even if they knew he was dead before this the northerners didnt and it was personal for jon anyway because it was the only reason why he went, hes not exactly experienced in open field battles he had the wall before, if he was thinking logically he probably wouldve done the same even though he knew he was running into a trap. Everyone looks down at jon saying hes stupid but its not like anyonelse came up with a better plan that made use of their numbers versus ramseys, Sansa and theon knew about ramsey because they experienced what he was capable of, jon had no clue, in this case I agree that Sansa shouldve told jon about the knights of the vale. Also jon had to use the his bulk force made up of mostly wildings so he could only make use of their own abilities in battle.
crystal L. They _did_ come up with a better plan, the night before (where they discussed _exactly_ this idea of _not_ being drawn out, of letting Ramsey charge at their position where they had dug trenches on their flanks to avoid _exactly_ what ended up happening - being surrounded in a pincer move). Jon, in the heat of the moment, forgets all that. Is it _understandable_ ? Sure. I've got a younger brother myself, in the same situation I might respond the same way. But it's still hot-headed and rash, something a good general never is.
Haven’t watched the video yet, saving it for after work. You may have commented about this but in case you didn’t notice, the shield Jon used was from house Mormont. 1 of 62.
"He pulled a mike tyson" "don't kill the dogs they're jst hungry" Lmfao this is why i love these two. This and episode 10 is by far my fav scenes ever.
I'm sad that they missed all of the Lady Mormont and Rickon Zig Zag memes lol. Nikki you have the biggest heart of any reactor on UA-cam. Don't ever change.
That was one of the best payoffs ever, i felt so elated seeing Jon and Sansa taking revenge on Ramsay for what he has done to their family. And that battle ! Incredible from start to finish,i hope Kit Harington received high praise for his work on this particular episode.
Fun Fact : Kit Harringtons biggest fear was being stumped on to death by people , the director used that fear to bring the best acting Kit has and Man this worked like a Spell. 🍄🌶️
He then used a prop of his head in the fridge to utterly destroy his wife Rose Leslie in a sick act of twisted depravity to get his displaced revenge on said director.
At that point, you guys, Sansa wasn't sure Baelish was going to show up at the battle, after all, she had told him basically to go to hell before. It was a gamble for her and he could have just refused to go or say he would go and then don't. But Baelish was smarter, he never left the spot he was because he knew Sansa was going to need him. She didn't trust him enough, she didn't want to use his help and that was it. Now, as you can see, she has a debt with him, a debt she didn't want to have with LF, of all people. But yes, look, Sansa and Jon had a huge problem with communication between each other. He didn't listen to her and she wasn't completely honest, that's how a reunion between two siblings who never had a connection before happens. Jon didn't listen to her when she said to take their time and meet with more houses of the North, he said they should fight with what they had and from that point on, I think Sansa realized she HAD used the knights of the Vale. As for Rickon... he would have died anyway. Ramsay was going to make sure of that & only Sansa came to terms with it.
LF told Sansa that he had his army waiting nearby and would come help if she changed her mind. There was no reason whatsoever to not tell Jon even if she was unsure of LF's motives.
Jon is planning the battle and needed all relevant information. A massive army waiting nearby to help should have been mentioned especially after she tried and failed to get help herself.
@Emma S94S She sent the raven and hoped for the best .. we never saw she received a confirmation or any answer by LF whether he was coming or not ... what was she suppose to say hey maybe LF will come but I am not sure
@@emmas94s27 yeah, look, she should have mentioned that to him. Maybe even if it was uncertain, she should have gone like "Hey Jon, I don't know if we can trust him but LF has an army and wants to help us", but I think she was also upset because he wasn't exactly listening to her. Plus, I get upset that he went to a battle that was already lost knowing his sister would end up in Ramsay's hand. I think they were both right & wrong dealing with this situation.
Sansa being honest with Jon wouldn’t have done much, since everything that happened during the battle STILL would have happened. And remember, Sansa has a hard time trusting people after everything that she’s been through. I don’t blame her for not telling Jon, even when she still loves and cares for him, her trust in people has been shattered. And like Nikki said, she didn’t know if they would show up which is another reason she didn’t say anything. Hope that helps.
What r u tlkn about? Jon is the 1st stark she has seen in years. She has more faith in littlefinger who she knows is not trustworthy than jon who grew up with her in winterfell and is a STARK thru and thru? So she let all of her bannermen/wildlings go out there and die overall weakening her own forces when she knew they were outmatched instead of saying 'hey jon. I sent a letter to littlefinger asking him to bring the knights of the vale so we can plan a strategy around that possibility'... even if they didnt show up there was absolutely no reason to keep that information from jon except for her own vanity and selfishness and stupid writing from the showrunners. I cudnt stand sansa in seasons 6-8. She acted so dumb
I’m fairly sure she was trying to get Jon killed with his forces while she could become the lady of Winterfell and have the Vale behind her. Her decision to not tell Jon AT ALL shows that this was what she probably intended to happen.
You are seeing the effects of being resurrected. Jon would never rushed in hastily like that pre resurrection. Remember Jon was never going to go back to winterfell until Sansa convinced him. Sansa convinced Jon to save little rickon and when rickon was killed, Jon’s purpose was lost again. He was stabbed in the heart once again and all he saw was red and absolutely nothing else
That scene when Jon rises amongst the crowd in the aerial shot is a mirror of Daenerys when shes lifted by the slaves calling her mhysa... 'A Song of Ice and Fire' ... and remember Melissandre's visions? When she said she could only see "snow"? And when she said she saw Jon fighting in Winterfell and the wolf banner replacing the bolton's banner?
My big hug to both of yall! I'm really glad u enjoyed that episode! Btw what about Davos found the burnt deer that he made for Shireen & what will he do about Melisandre? I was relieved when he found it. See yall 2mrw XOXO JON SNOOOOH🙄😁❤❤❤
As Jon rose to the surface, it reminded me of an episode of a show I watched years ago (can’t remember what show though, might have been One Tree Hill??). Basically the character wanted to die, or at least thought he did and was just going through the motions of life for other people’s sakes. So he wheeled himself into a swimming pool and sank to the bottom, and then you see him erupt from the water gasping for air, fighting to live. When Jon came up fighting for air it reminded me so much of that episode.
Lol the Jon Sansa debate is so crazy i remember when it first came out there where threads upon threads about it ppl will fight that till the end of days they even ask Sophie Turner about it at comic con and she said “Sansa didn’t tell Jon because she wanted all the credit. And it was a more dramatic moment when they showed up and it makes for really dramatic television.”
I didn't know Sophie Turner made that statement, but I knew it all along because Sansa was always selfish. She had opportunities to get away from Joffrey, but she refused the Hound's help, She could have left with Brienne, but she chose to stay with Littlefinger. All she ever cared about was being a "lady" and living in castles. She was never the kind sister. She treated Jon like crap.
About Sansa: She didn't tell Jon because she wasn't sure Baelish would get there in time or if she should even trust that Baelish wouldn't just turn on her and Jon's army. She also felt Jon wasn't eqipped to handle Ramsey... which was true considering what Jon just did. She may have thought the only way to win was by surprise and she was right.
No they did that because this is D&D writing they have Sansa as a power hungry bitch , flash forward to date, read the books one of Sansa last chapter she thought about Jon hoping to see him again.
Sansa is not a power hungry bitch lol, what show are you watching dude. Also just because book Sansa thinks about seeing him again doesn't mean they'll be all fine once they reunite - it's ASOAIF! - if they ever reunite in the books. Sansa was raised mostly in these times by Cersei, Baelish, Tyrion and Littlefinger. She adapted, unlike Jon whose honor was all he had as a moral compass (um and that got him killed, by the way, just like it got Winterfell burnt to the ground by Theon, and got Robb, Ned, Catelyn and Rickon killed!) It's pretty obvious when you see who are the last surviving Starks, it's Arya and Sansa, both of whom have abandoned their father's idea of "honor" to be smarter, more cunning and learn about ways to get to their goal where their enemies would never see them (see, Arya killing Frey on ep10). Sansa's quest this season was *not* about power, it was about vainquishing someone she had the power to vainquish: Ramsay Bolton, whom by the way, participated in killing her family, raped her, beat her, and manipulated her. Sansa needed to win, not because she cared about her life (as she says so herself, she's ready to kill herself if it means never going to Ramsay ever again) or about power (the North has *zero* power as it is with the Lannisters on the throne! The North is actually the next force against which Cersei would raise her army and her power!) it was about vengeance. And when she feared that Jon could be an obstacle to that, because of his honor, his way of doing things or because he wasn't even taking her advices into consideration, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She decided to have her own force, where as Baelish said, the army would follow Jon more than her because they're loyal to him. She decided to handle herself the bargain with Baelish, being herself in debts to him, to get to her bigger goal. Just like Baelish made compromises and deals over deals to get what he wanted. Like, forreal, you're really gonna need to point me out the moment where we see Sansa (outside of "I dreamt of a priiince" season 1 Sansa) as a "power hungry bitch" because it's not on the show! Just because D&D's dumbasses kinda teased it between season 6 and season 7, doesn't mean it EVER happened on season 7. It was just a tease coming from these two idiots to kinda have us believe their s7 Stark shit storyline. Had Sansa been a "power hungry bitch" she would have allied herself with Baelish on episode 6x10, which she didn't do. Especially since she KNOWS the lengths Baelish is willing to go for her - like killing Lisa, killing Joffrey, or having a whole army coming to save her home.
nikki cracks me up... "im exhausted". its truly amazing how a fantasy show can really emotionally get to us all. instead of just listening to end credits just check out the sound tracks... ramin djawadi is amazing and hes doing another tour for the series soundtrack soon
Been waiting for this one! This is my favorite episode by far. From utter despair to sweet relief. Winter is coming. P.S. How great of a villain was Ramsey? Brilliant character played brilliantly.
Love it how a Mormonts shield saved Jon, 62 men were useful in the end!
wow i never noticed that. good eye!
How did that happen?
One of Ramsey troops that retreated back into Winterfell must have lost his shield during battle and picked it up
"HERE WE STAND" as what the Mormont House word is...
Those 62 mormonet are probably still alive lol with the strength of 10 men equal 620 men
Jon being trampled was important. Until that point, since he came back from the dead, he'd just been going through the motions. This was the first time he started fighting for his life again. The first time he WANTED to live since coming back. His proper rebirth of sorts.
Yes! The moment where he realizes he's not ready to give up on life.
And it was beautiful.
It's funny that they lucked into that sequence, as a last minute add, do to the major logistics problems the director put on production team.
Wow...I didn't even notice that.
Also him rising from the crowding people is a call back to Dany being worshipped as Mhysa in season 4
“Don’t. The dogs didn’t do anything they’re just hungry”😂😂😂 haha Nikki
Those dogs had a really long history of eating human flesh. It's not their fault, but they are too dangerous to keep around.
The dogs ate lady Walda and her newborn son.
The dogs are fine. They got Ramsey for dinner.
Teresa MLA I agree. Them dogs, sadly, need to be put down.
They’re not hungry anymore.....😋
That scene when Jon stands with all those horses charging at him is real, no cgi or green screen!😲
Whatttt really???wow
@Dean Cobra of course not.
This episode won an Emmy Award for Best Directing.
It should win an Award from someone for best Cinematography.
Especially that 1 shot at 5:15 that was very dynamic
See the shield Jon picked up when Ramsay was shooting at him? That's house Mormont, one of the 62 men Lyanna Mormont supplied made it all the way into Winterfell
That is the first time I noticed that! Brill!
Favorite minor detail of the battle... yup, 62 Mormont soldiers did come in handy.
And their words are "Here We Stand"
Grottgreta I’ve seen this at least 5 times and didn’t really notice that. Thank you!
Awesome!
That little smile Sansa does right at the end is always a cherry on top
Most reaction videos people miss that little smile cos' they're always chatting
Brandon O'Sullivan Yeah I know and it always bugs me! Haha
Her Sensei/Cersei would have been proud, lol. And not a lot of people got to know she did this; she keeps her 'little dove' face for the general public but she's a different animal now....
Ghost wouldn't eat Ramsay... He has better taste...
Tastes like chicken shit...😁
Maybe just chew him up a bit. ;)
Ba Dum Tssss........
Hahaha
Lmao
One of my favorite little details in this episode was Melissandre watching the banner of the Boltons go down in Winterfell.
In episode seven in the last season, she told Stannis that she saw a big battle in the snow. And when he had doubts to win the battle she said: "I have seen myself walk along the battlements of Winterfell. I have seen the flayed man banners lowered to the ground." That's why she was so certain, that Stannis would win. Too bad the Lord Of Light didn't show her which banner was the one that was rolled out after that.
FluFrog they burned little Shireen at the stake for that shit
@@preciousthing101 agree poor girl
@@preciousthing101 Something that real, book accurate Stannis The Mannis would never have done and/or agreed to!
Steven: "He's playing mind games with him..."
like a half-second later-
Ramsay: "Let's play a game."
hilariously good timing despite everything that's happening haha
When Ramsay said "I am a part of you now", a lot of people speculated that it means that Sansa is pregnant, but I think it means that Sansa got part of his cruelty in her now, she is changed forever now
KazakovOleg yeah because how would ramsay know she was pregnant lmfao
KazakovOleg i think he was just desperate to talk shit because he knew it was over. She wanted revenge on someone who abused her, tortured her, and hurt her family. I think that a lot more people would want the same thing.
There's also an old idea that people had throughout the ages about how the man that takes a woman's virginity changes her forever, makes her more like him and makes her future children look like him too even if he's not the father. Dumb shit obviously, but that's what many believed back then, and also part of the reason why widows and women who had sex before marriage were often considered worthless
@@Mentaclink yeah that's pretty much exactly what it is. Taking away the last innocent part of sansa while with theon giving him long lasting PTSD
I never really thought of that! Good catch though
I had always liked it cause in a way, Lord Mormont was there to help Jon, as Jon did go back to Craster's Keep and avenge his death. But your take on it is much more realistic, and equally awesome. :)
They do raise them tough in the North.
Lylanna & her Uncle r my favorite Mormont's, sill on the fence about Jorah
@@toridavis8335 Jorah will probably bite it next season, there'll likely be some form of redemption for him first.

Nova Lena - you might want to edit your post before Nikki reads it. Unintentional i'm sure but it is somewhat spoilery!
Nova Lena spoiler at the end of your comment
Well not 100% real. Some CGI has been obviously added in the back
Fun fact, when Jon was facing the charging army of Ramsey the actor Kit actually stood in front of 40 some odd charging horses. Said it was one of the scariest things he’s done.
It was one of the most cinematic television episodes I’ve ever seen.
Ramsay ‘s statement to Sansa was even more sinister, he meant that he had scarred her so much that he will have a hold on her forever.
Fun Fact: Iwan Rheon (Ramsay) was runner-up to Kit Harrington for the role of Jon Snow ;)
I'm happy it went this way. Iwan was obviously LOVING this evil role. And personally I loved watching how enjoyably evil he was. Truly it looked like he was having fun with being so nasty
I am so glad he didn't play Jon Snow. I can't see him in that role.
Dularr not as good looking as Kit-sorry, but that’s part of Jon’s attraction
Misfits is such a hugely underrated show!
The moment the stark banner unfolds gives me life. Lol
Married To Film same! I screamed like a wild heathen when the Stark banner rolled down lmao!!
My heart skips a beat - every time.
Hey, Shamonda/Ralph!!!
...and the opening credits of ep 10, the Winterfell sigil...😂
I really like the second before it when you see the Bolton banners go down because that was Melisandre's vision.
Wild heathen! :'D
The shot of Jon Snow watching Ramsey’s men coming towards him as he takes out his sword...captured perfectly. My favorite scene of the whole series.
When I first saw Tormund tear that guy's throat out, I said, "HE JUST PULLED A RICK GRIMES" lol.
What's funny about that is that I watched another girl react to this episode and then that walking dead episode. When tormund ripped the mans throat she was squealing and cheering, but when she saw Rick do it she gasped and said, "omg that's disgusting." And I was like, "abbie you saw the exact same thing 3 days ago!!" Lolololol Hahahaha
true,,,LOL
Same!
wtffff that was exactly what i was thinking about the moment he got that guy throat
SAME!
I swear. The musical score on this episode alone blew me away. The Mormont sigil on the shield that protected Jon from Ramsey's arrows...a freaking nice touch.

Same here, been waiting for this one since the red wedding...Absolutely the best episode of anything... ever! Hence all the awards.
I've been here since day 1. I just sneaked off for an extra break at work just to watch these 2 episodes. Poor Nikki, this one really is savage! More awesomeness to come. Great video.xxx
I have!
And everyone let's say it together "zig zag"
pretty sure ramsey would then shoot better and hit him zig zag slows you down but does help so ramsey would not want him playing fair
The shortest and fastest way between 2 points is a straight line.
Besides there's a whole battalion of archers, if Ramsey missed they will finish the job.
yeah, if Rickon was "zig zagging" Ramsay would order his archers to shoot.
Married To Film - Jon and Ramsay were "moving some furniture".
Henry Churches 2 of the 6 episodes of season 8 are going to be directed by Miguel Sapochnik. They are going to be amazing
"Scenes like these might not get him awards but he has my respect."
I agree wholeheartedly.
Kit was the only person nominated from this episode for an Emmy so he did get credit, more so than all the other actors at least.
I loved when he got up from the ground and saw the charging cavalry. he looked down nodding his head knowing his mistake, and instantly accepted death. but pulled out his sword and wasn't going down without a fight. just imagine that situation. such a brave moment.
That battle scene is the most amazing cinematic masterpiece I have ever seen in TV or movies.
"I saw him, fighting at Winterfell"
-Lady Melisandre-
Only death pays for life... at least she never told them that Shireen's death payed for Jon's life.
@@anafreitas1646 That was a Dothraki witch thing, not the Lord of Light. Lots of characters die so its hard to say, but Shireen died 4 episodes before Jon came back, you'd have better sense with Roose Bolton being the one who died to pay for his life.
@@gandhialwaysleavesanonion679
Except that Melissandre had nothing to do with Roose Boltons death.
And that theme runs throughout the series...the faceless men believe it also.
Arya? WTF
Half the battle-related shit was CGI, though. Braveheart and others did it better.
My favourite battle scene of all time is the whole battle for Pelennor Fields in Return of the King. So good. Seen it so many times, and it still gives me chills. But yeah, Battle of the Bastards is easily in my top 5 battle scenes in TV and Film.
What does "The walking Dead" have to do with this exactly?
It's a pity they still didn't have money enough to include Ghost in the battle. It's said they had to choose between showing Ghost or Wun-Wun.
The battle is over, now let's all get hype for 6x10 the best finale ever !
Amen
Honestly that episode is even better than this one, just because of how much happens during the episode.
6.10 is the best in tv history!
Those violins on the music score... they haunted me for days, lol
eh season 4 finale still the best
The scene where jon gets trampelled is actually a very important scene as it was Kit haringtons, the actor of Jon, idea to include it.
It shows the true rebirth of jon. Before the battle..he just fought because he thought it was his duty. He was fine with dying. Thats why he doesent wanted to be ressurrected again.
Kit described it something along this way "at first he thinks about just giving up. Be over with it. He accepts death..but then he looks up to the light and decides to fight back..thats the true rebirth, the real Moment Jon came back to live."
Brb Let me dry my tears
Also, his emergence from the pile of bodies is a callback to the "Mhysa" scene with Dany.
Best TV episode ever created. Deserves all the awards it got and more.
The cinematography and spectacle of it is indeed incredible. But the writing is a bit corny compared to earlier seasons (as was typical of Seasons 5-8).
The next episode "the winds of winter" is honestly the best episode of the series
I'd say Ozymandias from Breaking Bad is way better in terms of writing.
Jaycee Flow I second this
@@GJBedrin ozymandias is the best episode of the series

2:56 2 years ago ... people were yelling for Rickon to do ZigZags .... You guys should see the memes after this ....
Sansa’s little smirk as she walks away from Bolton at the end 😈
I was hoping others noticed Sansa smile. It was very slight but telling.

14:20 I still say, the coldest, most savage moment of the entire show was the 5 seconds where Sansa turns to walk away, but stops, turns back and watches...
That is a call back to the very first episode when Ned beheaded the deserter. Jon told Bran “don’t look away or father will know if you do.”
Yes! He who passes the sentence should swing the sword. 🗡️
It was a sign of her ferocious will & determination to fight for her honor, as a Stark. The only thing that would’ve topped that scene for me was if she had whistled to the dogs to signal them to kill, as Ramsey had done to his victims. I think Sansa didn't tell Jon about the knights of the Vale, because she wasn't sure if they are coming or is Littlefinger just playing her. So she didn't want Jon to build up the plan counting on Littlefinger.
Yes, I think she didn't want to rely on Littlefinger's army and was in doubt about wether she could trust him after everything he did.
I always thought she didn't tell Jon so she can get credit for the Vale saving the day and claim Winterfell
So intense!

The circle of people crushing Jon when he finds his way up for air is a call back to the circle of people embracing Dany and raising her up.
To zig zag or not to zig zag tore the community apart and we still haven't recovered (this one is kind of a joke)
Prediction for the books. Rickon is gonna be the one that saves the day riding in on a unicorn and Ramsey will zig when he should have zagged!
@@iloveyourunclebob - oh gotcha, disregard. I misunderstood which part you were referring to :).
Let's just say that at this point she's got some very understandable trust issues, and leave it at that.
The shot with the horses running, and the single shot following jon is my favorite shot/scene in a tv show/movie!!
Your faces as John was beating Ramsey's face to a pull was priceless. Two nice people briefly turned into psychopaths by a TV show.......lol!
These last two episodes are different level. Miguel Sapochnik send his regards
I think Sansa knew from the start that little Ricky was lost. She still used him to twist on Jon.
She told Jon they could get him back even though she knew they couldnt.
Majic Moe
Please, explain why not telling Jon about the army of the Vale was a good decision! They lost many men and Jon himself was almost killed by her not revealing that the Vale was behind them!
Emma S94S does that matter though? i don't think that matters. she did what she needed to get jon on board, i can't fist the hustle. she got it done.
Good points...well said.
Winterfell has secret entrances and ways to get in not known by anyone but the Starks, so they could still get in if they wanted
Man, that look on Jon's face after he crawls over the pile and spots Ramsay 😠 Just pure rage in those dark eyes... scary. I prefer happy face Jon.
Still looking sexy as fuuuuuuhhhh..... And I'm a man :D
Ramsey brought the wolf out in Jon, forced it on himself. And then Ramsey turned to run like the scared little dog he is. Run away, I said. Winter is coming 🗡️ 🐺 ❄️
This episode won several awards, in fact. That single take in the battle is incredible.
Sansa's smile at the end always makes me laugh like a maniac. It's so satisfying.
Ramsay Bolton truly left his mark on her.
Fun fact the scene where Jon beat Ramsay senselessly, kit harrington at some point accidentally punched the actor playing Ramsay
Also ramsay death was supposed to be filmed much more brutal but the dumbed it down a little
And then He had to buy Ivan drinks since he was so nice about it XD
Yeah "accidentally"😉
It wasn't an accident lol
At least 1 mormont soldier made it into winterfell.
System Of A FoX that was Lyanna lol, she decided to kick ass herself
Well, there were 62 mormonts. That corresponds to 620 mainlanders, so I guess it would be expected that at least one will survive.
She wanted to be sure
exactly, i hate it when people say she wanted Jon dead, like how can your hate be so blind
You missed Sansa smiling at the very end
It’s the best part
Yes the best part agree
The director made her do that take 30+ times to get it perfect
@@cwardpiano Good. I wish they made Season 8 over 30 times to see which one was best.
@2 6 Lol that wasn't intentional :P
This episode won an award, an deserves every bit of it!
Elisabeth Larsen 7 Emmys! 😎
Mama Browsss ..... WOW I didn't know that!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Elisabeth Larsen me neither till I googled it 😂
@@mamabrowsss1160 It got nominated for 7 but only won 6, Kit Harington's nomination for best supporting actor didn't win.
i appreciate u guys noticing the cinematography of the episode, it is outstanding
This episode definitely had some of the best battle scenes I've ever seen!
favorite episode and in my opinion, probably the greatest battle scene I have ever seen. The directing, the shots, the music, everything is unreal.
Jon had to ride forward at that point. That was the point of sending Riccon out there. To get Jon into the kill zone. Cant ride back after that. He'd be shot in the back. Forward was the only option .
Yeah exactly, Jon was already trapped and in arrow range by that point, he would've been hit by a volley of arrows either way.
Yeah he was trying to ride out of range of the arrows. Some ppl didn't understand that part
Maybe that's true, maybe not. The point is he wasn't thinking. Ramsey got under his skin, just like Sansa warned against.
But it's still hot-headed and rash, something a good general never is.
when sansa was walking away, you missed her smile. :)
WickedSimmer Just a slight hint of a Smile. Lol.
Yea that was iconic
Haven’t watched the video yet, saving it for after work. You may have commented about this but in case you didn’t notice, the shield Jon used was from house Mormont. 1 of 62.
This episode was a masterpiece. I really miss this amazing show.
Steven's gasp when tormund tore out that guy's throat 😂 i've seen this reaction about a dozen times and just now noticed that. So so good
"He pulled a mike tyson"
"don't kill the dogs they're jst hungry"
Lmfao this is why i love these two. This and episode 10 is by far my fav scenes ever.
I'm sad that they missed all of the Lady Mormont and Rickon Zig Zag memes lol.
Nikki you have the biggest heart of any reactor on UA-cam. Don't ever change.
HE PULLED A MIKE TYSON
lol Nikki your awesome
Best reference evah! Lol
15:27 - "I'm exhausted." Well said, Nikki. Well said.
That was one of the best payoffs ever, i felt so elated seeing Jon and Sansa taking revenge on Ramsay for what he has done to their family.
And that battle ! Incredible from start to finish,i hope Kit Harington received high praise for his work on this particular episode.
Fun Fact :
Kit Harringtons biggest fear was being stumped on to death by people , the director used that fear to bring the best acting Kit has and Man this worked like a Spell. 🍄🌶️
He then used a prop of his head in the fridge to utterly destroy his wife Rose Leslie in a sick act of twisted depravity to get his displaced revenge on said director.
@@rastiga9196 yeah that 😂👌🤣 #SavingTheBritafilter
@@emmas94s27 LF isn't exactly known to be a trustworthy guy. Plus, she didn't want to use his help, she wanted to be something between her and Jon.
"I'm exhausted" is a perfect reaction.
When Nkki says " The dogs didn't do anything their just hungry" is one of the most sincere and funny lines of any other Reaction channel by far.
@@JT-de5jr Absolutely not. If you think that, you are completely biased against Sansa.
"he just pulled a Mike Tyson"
This is the best battle in all of TV, the wave of emotion I felt when I first watched it was spectacular. Miguel Sapochnik is a genius
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this episode, I always cry. It is my favourite episode of television. Ever.
My big hug to both of yall! I'm really glad u enjoyed that episode! Btw what about Davos found the burnt deer that he made for Shireen & what will he do about Melisandre? I was relieved when he found it. See yall 2mrw XOXO
JON SNOOOOH🙄😁❤❤❤
lol, Part 2 reaction available before Part 1 premiere :) Love the videos, keep up the good work!
What do you mean? Part 1 was 20 min before part 2...
The part 1 was streamed. I guess the idea was that when people would be watching the stream they had time upload the part 2 meanwhile
Rewatching this almost gave me an anxiety attack once again. One of the best scenes of the entire show.
"He just pulled a Mike Tyson.....Shit!!!"
I about damn near spit pop all over my screen!!!
You guys are so stinkin' cute!!!
Nikki grieved for us all when Rickon went down. Thanks Nikki. 😔
First Ramsay kills Wun Wun, then says "you suggested one on one combat," and then "that sounds like a wonderful idea." 😂😂😂 wunderbar👋👌
4:37 My blood chills everytime at this scene .. The The Lord of Light descends and covers Jon from harm.
This episode! INCREDIBLE. Jon facing that line....chills. RIP Wun-wun.
RIP Wun Wun. You will not be forgotten.
Sophie Turner never takes these conventions seriously anyway lol. She spends more time shitting on D&D's writing.
Sheila Burns fairly sure she wanted Jon dead in the battle so she could just sweep in with the Vale forces and become Lady of Winterfell.
No she literally didnt tell him because it would more suspenseful for the audience. She was definitely in the wrong not to tell Jon.
@@emmas94s27 wrong, yes arguably it is wrong. However, it is completely in character for Sansa.
No they did that because this is D&D writing they have Sansa as a power hungry bitch , flash forward to date, read the books one of Sansa last chapter she thought about Jon hoping to see him again.
I showed Sansa my finger if you know what I mean

AND THEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED!!!
Or "FORTH EORLINGAS!" if you prefer.
As a person of Polish descent, I approve this comment. Forth the Winged Hussars!
nikki cracks me up...
