To be fair though it's more about the symbolism than it is the actual walk. The small council works for the King, not the Hand, so they should meet in a position that's most convenient for the King, not the Hand. By having the small council meet in the Hand's tower Tywin is basically stating to everyone that he is in charge, not Joffrey. And he pretty much is. Joffrey is just a figurehead while Tywin is, for all intents and purposes, the real king of Westeros. Tywin, and the audience, may roll their eyes at Joffrey's poor excuse for not attending the small council meetings but he actively encourages this behavior. A real Hand of the King would be dragging Joffrey to these meetings while lecturing them about the importance of these meetings and how he is to lead them. Tywin doesn't actually want Joffrey to become more educated and a better ruler, because that would represent a direct threat to HIS power. Tywin is not the Hand of the King, he is the Shadow King.

Explains how EQ is also quite important. Theres a lot of corporate stories how asshat people run companies into the ground simply due to nobody liking them
I used to think this was right but i saw a comment about how much fear they had for a powerless girl and essentially gave her power. If they hadn't tried to kill her and her baby she may have not wanted to be on the iron throne. She was happy with Khal Drogo. Her brother insisted on being king and she said herself she didn't want him to be. Even after Drogo died she could have been happy with her dragons just freeing slaves around her. Their fear of her is what gave her power and the desire to become Queen of King's Landing.
The brilliant thing is, Tywin didn't even have to make that walk. He could've said exactly the same thing from right where he was standing. The decision to walk up the steps and stand right up to the throne, forcing Joffrey to look up at him, was a calculated attempt at intimidation, and it was extremely effective.
There might be a storm of swords after that last clash of kings we had. After she comes with her dance of dragons there will be a feast for crows. The winds of Winter is coming
This is a scene that is always worth revisiting. One of the best in all of the show’s run. So many details worth analysing that show how powerful Tywin actually is from body language to tone of voice. Perfect scene.
Apparently the poor bastard couldn't go anywhere in public for months afterward because people would insult and abuse him, unable to distinguish him from the character he played in a fictional TV series. People can be reeeeeally stupid.
Agreed. As much as I hate Joffery, I also love the bastard. Jack Gleeson did an excellent job with the role, he did more than what was necessary, and it sucks that people can't see past the persona he put on for a TV role.
That pause in his gate to let the guards know that was far enough. That look on his face as he approaches the throne and again as he slowly makes his way up the steps. So fucking epic 👌
He doesn't have to raise his voice, threaten, or otherwise imply or resort to violence. All he had to do was walk quietly up those half-dozen steps, and he had that little blond twerp pissing his trousers. I love it.
"We could arranged to have you carried." That feels like the subtlest way of saying, "If you don't want your legs, we're free to make sure you won't get to."
Look, we all HATE Joffrey, but tbh, he’s actually the more rationale and intelligent person in this scene. Not even about seeing Daenerys as a potential threat, but even the conversation about where the meetings are held kind of exposes Tywin’s own ego, that even the king must work on his time and rules
Exactly. I've always wondered how Tywin would explain if Joffrey asked "So your time is more important than my own?" Such a direct accusation would be difficult to deflect, since no matter what Tywin can not admit that he holds more power than the king.
@@M.JWitteveen He should have asked Twyn the same questions in front of all of the court, I would think Twyn would not want to humilkliate his grandson in front of many people since it would look like he is more powerfull than the king.

But in universe I always wondered who was telling the truth about the dragon skulls Viserys was only a boy, while Tywin was a younger man. But they both spent time in the Red Keep and both saw the throne room with the skulls Idk just a scene that can be seen so many ways.

"we could arranged to have you carried" 😂😂😂 I love how he had to walk right up next to Joffrey so he could say it directly to his face.
He basically said "boy, I'll kill you!" 😂
@@DaxTheRipperXNegative, it was moreso, who do you think I am? You ain't running ISH, I am.
Joffery understands how powerful his grandfather is
I don’t care what anyone says, Tywin Lannister is the best there ever was.
My favorite character in the entire series.
I hate Tywin
@@ShoTyme we need tywin arc where is displayed his rise to power and his battles on battlefield
@@AEGIS-RED-MEGA-VIEWSWhich young actor could pull off the gravitas of Charles Dance?
Even his presence without say something shows how the king fears tywin
“Grandfather, you’re treating this like a game of thrones. If we don’t do something, it will be a house of the dragon.”
Wow. Powerful dialogue.
There might be a storm of swords after that last clash of kings we had. After she comes with her dance of dragons there will be a feast for crows. The winds of Winter is coming
Needs more likes
I guess you could say the Song of Ice and Fire was the friends we made along the way
This is a scene that is always worth revisiting. One of the best in all of the show’s run. So many details worth analysing that show how powerful Tywin actually is from body language to tone of voice. Perfect scene.
i love how when he enters the room and the kingsguard walks behind him he stops for a moment letting them know to stop following him
I swear i love Tywins swagger. The actor perfectly portrays that.
@3:24 Joffery thinking, who the fuck is the King amongst us ? 😂
I think we all know who was really ruling and who’s just keeping that sharp seat warm
what a show of power by Tywin Lannister. stunning.
Such an amazing actor who plays as Joffrey. Too bad the internet is such a bad place and very ungrateful
Personally the best actor in the series
@@moviedigest1 I agree. If I was given a chance to meet that actor, I would shake his hands and say "your role as Joffrey is magnificent"
@@andyroobrick-a-brack9355 He is so good that he fools the people
Lowkey moment when Tywin walks up the steps, showing how easy it is. To walk up the stairs, and for Joffrey’s facade of power to fade away
That pause in his gate to let the guards know that was far enough. That look on his face as he approaches the throne and again as he slowly makes his way up the steps. So fucking epic 👌
The filming..camera position showing him tower over looking down...tjen turning his back and walking away...brilliant.
He doesn't have to raise his voice, threaten, or otherwise imply or resort to violence. All he had to do was walk quietly up those half-dozen steps, and he had that little blond twerp pissing his trousers.
I love it.
Mr Dance was perfect in his role as Tywin.
💯 absolutely!
"We could arranged to have you carried."
That feels like the subtlest way of saying, "If you don't want your legs, we're free to make sure you won't get to."
Tywin climbing the steps without saying a word and then looming over Joffrey even had me intimidated 😂
1:07 Tywin, the inventor of Homeoffice.
😂 I love that
Joffery in this scene was totally right. He was also right in season 1 when he told his mother about having a standing royal army.
Both are terrific actors
I wish we'd seen more confrontations like this between these two actors, both were/are amazing in every scene.
The way they encase the shot of Charles ascending the throne with fire on each side and ramp up the sound effect was beautiful
Joffrey Baratheon was actually 100% right about his concern regarding the dragons.
To be honest this was Joffrey being quite respectful actually.
Love the leisure stroll when he goes.
Why if this isn’t such a fine grandfather and grandson moment?
Tywin walking down the steps like " I really run the realm not you little bastard" 😂
" ... you little bastard."
And that was literally true.
It's great how Tywin is the perfect combination of Cersei and tyrion: He has both the intellect and the toxicity and they blend so well together.
Wow. Such a study in leadership and control. I will have to watch this further.
The one thing Joffrey actually was spot on to be fearful of.
Joffrey had one King moment and Tywin decided to trust the "experts".
"We could arrange to have you carried."
Translation:"I will k|ll you boy. I prefer Tommen anyway"
😂😂😂
And soon Joffrey is dead. Coincidence?
When he stands over him you can FEEL the very obvious shift in power and the one on the throne had NONE. BRILLIANT acting from them both!!!
Joffrey was right about the dragons, what a twist
The long strides. Tywin was intimidating. What a man.
Tywin was so wrong about the dragons. It’s very ironic! 😂😂 And Joffrey being smart is ironic as well!
Tywin became Hand of the King, the second most powerful man in the kingdoms, at the age of twenty and Lord of Casterly Rock by age twenty-five. He’s sixty-six here. The fact that he’s lived this long holding onto power proves he knew how to play the game
Two minutes in charge and the kid thinks he Lee Iacocca!
Love the grin as he walks away 😂
The look he gives him after he complains about walking to the Tower of the Hand. It's like he's saying to him, "Listen to me you little shit...."
Kingsguard:- *escorts Tywin in*
Tywin:- *stops and gives them a look*
Kingsguard:- Kid, your on your own
Joffrey’s actor was always so good in this role.
Always loved how Tywin makes Joffrey uncomfortable in this scene, and smirks as he walks off.
3:11 absolutely love how Tywin almost forgets to formally address Joffrey as he remembers that Joffrey is the one who is technically in charge
His presence is truly incredible.
Tywin lannister is the only Human on westeros that make Joffrey watch his word whenever he speak. You can see the fear and respect in every sentence Joffrey said. Great actors, both of them.
wow! what an amazing actor charles dance is
2:14
that line has always got me
Cause in season one Viserys explains to doreah when he was a boy he remembered that the throne room was lined with the skulls of the dragons and that the closer you got to the Iron Throne the bigger they got.
Yet Tywin says here that the dragon skull close to the throne was the " size of an apple " Now real world me always just figure it was a continuity error.
But in universe I always wondered who was telling the truth about the dragon skulls
Viserys was only a boy, while Tywin was a younger man. But they both spent time in the Red Keep and both saw the throne room with the skulls
Idk just a scene that can be seen so many ways.
Absolutely GOATED scene. Tywin was PEAK Game of Thrones.
The whenever necessary and the face joefrry made was hilarious 😂
Charles Dance's subtlety and brilliance at work here, but can we just take a moment to really appreciate Jack Gleeson's acting here? Kid's getting an acting masterclass, and keeping up without issue across an absolute legend.
2:57 "You can't even be bothered to walk up a goddamn set of tower stairs why would we tell you anything?"
I like how Joffrey changed the conversation when he knew that Tywin was getting annoyed 🤣🤣
The one time the kid was actually right
You can see the terror in Joffrey's eyes when Tywin walked up those stairs, "Can he do that?" 😂😂😂
I forgot how superb the actors were somehow. They nailed their roles
King Joffrey actually being a smart king. One of those dragons killed his parents and ended his families rule. He was right to be worried.
The way he slowly walked up the stairs....Charles Dance is hot.
"I heard Dragons are back grandfather."
"Yeah, they are."
Joffery: da fuck? Mofo shouldn't we do something??
😂
Grandfather not uncle
This is the example of. A crown doesn't give you power
That 'your grace ' at the end had me cackling 😂😂
And tywin an awesome mentor
The flame behind Tywin dwindles Joffrey’s fire. Shows how puny he is.
The most normal interaction Joffrey ever had.
20seconds in... scene feels so lonely and cold and then you get a look at the iron chair. Shivers
Meanwhile, Ghost Otto Hightower:
"Why can't I do that to my grandson as well?"
