    great video - I did the same by just changing the guts and using the same housing - I did not even disconnect the two hoses. Very easy and fast.

    NO! Should never ever reuse plastic housings and orings. Idc if it's worked so far. And you definitely shouldn't be showing people this. The housings warp and the rubber o rings degrade.

    Thank you for posting this video. I used it to replace my thermostat on my truck (2017 5.3 litre 1500 chevy silverado) when it was doing the same thing as your truck. I had about 133k on mine before it went. While I was at it I replaced my temp sensor as well! All fixed!

    Thank for the video sir. Was able to change the housing out in about 20 min and fill it up and ran perfect at 210. It did take a bit longer then I expect to reach operating temp but with my old thermostat it never went above 180 mostly ran at 160.

  • @truckernation7886
    @truckernation7886 2 роки тому +3

    Did this on our 4.3 a week or so ago. It was barely leaving 160 with the heater on. At least they made it super easy.

    Just changed mine on my 2014 1500 LTZ, 5.3 engine with 100+K miles. Thought I'd add what caused me to replace mine. Engine temp gauge running near 185 instead of 210 like normal. Sudden drop of gauge to 160 and the radiator cooling fans turning max RPM even with engine shut off. The coolant temp sensor and thermostat were both bad. easy fix. Also remember to not mix types of antifreeze. Can cause problems later down the road. Great video.

    • @Tarandox

      Thanks bud. My thermostat just started acting up with the same exact thing you're talking about. I pulled in to my home parked and heard those fans just screaming. So I turned it back on and shut if off quickly before it could send a code to turn the fans on.

      @rcox225 Рік тому

      @@carlosramos1189 the sensor tells the computer when to use fans ,when it goes bad the computer doesn't know the temp and turns on fans thinking the motor is running hot. Had to change both on my 2015 LTZ

    video might be a few years old but still a great help. my problem was totally different from everyone tho. not once did my engine light turn on, my heat still DID work, and my temp gauge would go to 210 (normal) but would gradually shoot up and screen would say engine overheating. still overall ended up being the thermostat (fingers still crossed thats all it was) but drove after later filling the radiator and everything works just fine. video helped step by step and yes a very easy fix. Thank you!!

      Thermostats fail two ways, either closed or open. Open is better, as it allows the coolant to keep flowing, it just won't reach temp, closed sounds like what you were experiencing, where the temp kept going up, because the thermostat doesn't open to release the hot coolant to be replaced with cooler fluid.

    Thanks for this video! My radiator fan would randomly come on and run hard AND it would run even after turning my truck off! I was having to unhook my battery cable. My thermostat gauge was also not registering any temp at all. Hopefully this does the trick!
    My temperature gauge currently reads right at 220 which from what I am reading, is where it is supposed to be.

      The dash gauge is inaccurate.
      Mine reads 180, but data log reads 159f peak, 140 low. While dash again, remains relatively stable. In the winter, it would not blow real hot. Just comfortable warm. So I knew it was wrong.
      $40 OBDII bluetooth and an app shows the true reading.

    I’ll be doing this tomorrow morning. Got off the freeway this afternoon and noticed my fan was running really loud. A few minutes later, noticed my temp gauge was down like I just started the truck.
    Plugged in the code reader(check engine light didn’t come on) and it showed a coolant thermostat(p0128).
    I’m waiting now to let the engine cool down to check the coolant level.

  • @gac914
    @gac914 2 роки тому +15

    If you'll allow me a question, why in the world would you want to use the new housing with the OLD o-ring gasket? Seems like a simple knife blade would have removed the old one, (and it's not like the "old" days where you have to scrape and clean the paper gasket surfaces,) and wouldn't you otherwise be concerned that the old one would have been made brittle by the heat after so many miles/years?

      @@austinortiz361It comes with a new seal for a reason. Let’s say the seal starts leaking after replacement but you can’t find the new seal you didn’t use. The seal is most likely not in the GM parts catalog so you will need to buy another thermostat.
