Thanks for the video worked great. Just a word of advice for anyone doing this. If you don’t have one of those computer deals to reset to factory you can disconnect both your terminals on your battery to reset that way it works. Had to call my mechanic for that info.
just a follow up, went as smooth as could be.clean up what little came out took the longest time. Thanks again for putting it all on video.

Great video. I have been trying to tell people to replace it this way. If you tip that hose up with the thermostat still attached and then take it off, you will lose next to no coolant. I see people all over this app pulling the upper hose off (either the thermostat or the radiator) while it is still attached and dumping a gallon of coolant everywhere.
I still lost a ton from the coolant port, though I was on a slight decline.

Mines doing the same but no check engine light is on, I just changed the sensor. I’m about to change the thermostat out now hopefully it solves the issue

My old thermostat didn’t have the oring and when I tried to put the new part in I removed the oring because it was leaving a gap didn’t sit like yours. Any suggestions to why that is ???
There should be coolant overflowing when you take that thermostat off it looks like he was just low on coolant
Yeah I lost most of what was in the overflow.
No need for oil on the o ring
should change temp sensor since it is literally half inch away from thermostat.
Use the fender covers where your gonna be leaning on the car .

no just simply cleared the code with a regular scanner

Nice video have a question I have a 16 Silverado changed thermostat and temp sensor. And my fans still stay on and I unplugged battery when working any ideas

Did you rescan to make sure you weren't getting code for temp sensor? I had issue opposite way. Was getting code for sensor. Changed it. Next day later in day was code for thermostat.
I have a 2015 yukon ive replaced the sensor with an oem unit twice. Still ends up getting stuck bottomed out like a simple electrical issue. If i clear the codes the code goes away and the temp gauge starts reading so its not the thermostat. Any other ideas?
One day my fans kicked on high and wouldn't shut off, did some research and replaced the temp sensor. All was good for a few weeks, but it happened again, figured I got a bad unit or I have an electrical issue. Did a bit more research and apparently if the t-stat fails open it can cause the temp sensor to read low and result in similar behavior as if the temp sensor has failed. I replaced the t-stat and so far no issues.
Something to note after replacing the temp sensor the truck would never get above 185, with the factory standard t-stat it should hit 210. After replacing the t-stat it hits 210 as expected.
@@epia125i replaced the temp sensor and t stat a year ago and the fans kicked on a again it seems like it happens in the morning when i head to work when it its about 45-50 degrees outside.. do you think i need a factory thermostat that runs the truck a little warmer at 210degrees? i think that after market t stat kept it at 180-200 but this problem is just frustrating more than anything
My 16 started doing the same. They said it needed a new thermostat and sensor or something like that and gave me a 730.03 quote. I said yeah do it that’s including a 177 diagnosis. Then they said they don’t have the part so I’m truckles for a week 😢

most will never try what is alot of the time the issue, not alway's sure, however, might be just maybe keep your week's pay in your pocket!
First we need to know a thing or two maybe three maybe fore...ok, ok, enough of the bull yeah ok!
Corrosion, heat cycles, type of connector, where you live, type of driving style, garaged out of the enviroment, it all play's a major factor of repeat repair's, giving a stranger we all trust a "common failure"

Boring as he**....stay on point ha! ha!.
Let's start with Copper Wire, a very soft plyable flexable alloy which every vehicle assembly lines use to control many, well almost all of those connection's between part to part, pretty cheap stuff that actually hates being cycled by extreme cold, extreme heat, these cycles are called thermocycles, copper wire is protected by silicone rubber jackets to help protect the actual copper wires very thin strands that most, but not all, are twisted together forming a band of stronger copper wire by mass itself.

Not too many even talk about using other skills than becoming a really good part's changer, there everywhere right?
That's concerning, in my opinion, keep's people paying more for diagnoses of what again, in my opinion, simply pisses people off!
Most dealership's " schooled technicians" can't even use a multimeter correctly, simply crazy stuff they say is needed which turn's out over 50% of " common repair's "
simply are rip off's, not all....no, there are very qualified, very skilled vehicle technician's who simply know there trade.
Learning these qualifiation's are not cheap, college tuition, book fee's, specially tools required ( at times ) are good reason's for a higher repair due to the previous mention.
Fact:
90% of repair's are diagnosed just by a very good visual inspection, wiggle a wiring harness, finding a broken vaccum hose just by listening, looking, etc... etc...

despues de cambiar termostato tienes que aser reset la computer

Did your AC stop working too?
I had these same issues, my AC stopped working. Replaced the sensor, worked for a day or so. Reset the ptc by unplugging the positive and negative from the battery for 30 mins. It was good for another day, and same problem. I just replaced the thermostat yesterday and topped off with coolant and the issue seems to be resolved now. AC is working and getting a proper reading on my engine temperature
