Good video, good video angels and not cutting steps out. Im changing mine as im watching your video today along with the sensor while im at it right next to it.
Changed mine to an OEM one from chevy dealership but truck seems to kinda idle from 500-700 ish rpms is that normal ? Can hear it isn’t he exhaust also like it revs up a bit
hello! One question, didn't you have to bleed the circuit so that there would be no air problem in the cooling? Or is it not necessary for this replacement?
I’ve noticed my 2014 sierra 5.3 is not been getting up to 210 (which we know every gm vehicle ever made does) granite it’s not summer time an my drive to work is only 10-15 minutes from the house. But lately I’ve been remote starting before leaving. I think it’s probably the thermostat truck has 146k on the clock. Think it’s the thermostat? Also did you have to add any coolant back into the system?
@@jstoned1 ok. Thanks a bunch. I checked O’reilly an the ac delco thermostat is 50 bucks not sure if it’s the oem or not. I’m debating getting a quote from the dealer to do a good 150k mile service on the truck. All fluids (except tranny, always heard if it’s running out good an smooth just don’t mess with it idk) plugs etc
@@jew0182 acdelco is oem gm brand. Never a bad idea to get a service, I actually had my trans serviced at around 75k. I changed out plugs and wires at around 90k I need to post the video for that too
I've replaced about five thermostats on my 2015 Silverado the ones you order from part stores have a Rubber seal around the thermostat itself that seal breaks very easily over time the one I found that was better came directly from the Chevy dealership
When I searched Amazon it shows me the part number you listed . I couldn’t find an acdelco one at the time so I got mine from napa and it fit properly .
I put an original gm thermostat on mine but the temperature goes further right in normal handling so I don't know if they sold me a thermostat that opens at 105 degrees Celsius it's supposed to be at 97 degrees Celsius
@@jamespalmer2662 sounds like the thermostat sticking open to me. But you say it feels sluggish also so could possibly be a faulty coolant temperature sensor? Hard to say but I would start with a thermostat since it is usually the cheapest
Hmm that’s a tough one. My first thought was that the thermostat is stuck- possible bad one out of the box. One way to rule it out would be to remove the spring and valve portion 6:50 then put it back together with those parts removed and see if it still overheats
what are the symptoms? my trucks fan stays on while driving and the air is not coming out cold :/......i changed the ac relay and it worked back on last night but now this morning went back doing the same 😣im gonna change the temperature sensor and thermostat to see if that might be
My truck was having issues with the coolant temperature- it would not warm up all the way. My a/c did quit working a different time but it ended up being a hole in the condenser which is pretty common on these trucks
i changed my coolant sensor, took the negative off the battery for a couple minutes, then it got rid of that issue. having the lower numbers on the gauge would be for this issue.
I know it seems obvious to just "do it in reverse", but for those of us that can't afford the mechanic for the 18,900th time on this horrible model.... A full video....including putting it back together would be helpful. Videos either skip taking it apart or putting it back together....If people don't want to watch part of it they can fast forward.....no idea why everyone just skips half of what has to be done .... Not everyone's brain works the same.....off to find another video.
"no drain on the bottom of these radiators"? There's a petcock valve on the lower hose port
Thanks for the info!
My truck just started doing this. I'm glad I found your video, so now I know what to replace
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this video! Just changed out my thermostat! Easy job thanks to you
Glad I could help!
Changed mine in 30 mins. Thanks for the detailed video.
No problem!
Thank you sir!! Great camera angles. Much appreciated.
No problem! And Thanks!
Good video. I’m gonna try replacing my thermostat this weekend. Thanks.
Thanks! Good luck!

Thanks for your video, do I need to add more fluid after doing this?

You could open the radiator reservoir fill cap to prevent a lot of coolant spilling it worked for me at least
Good tip thanks!
You're right! Thanks man!
Damn you

Yes that sounds exactly like what mine was doing! Yes I did need to add a bit of coolant back in the system - less than a gallon

a question for the replacement of the thermostat the negative battery is disconnected???
No I did not disconnect the battery I don’t believe it necessary
People in 🇨🇦 do not be fooled. Napa sells it for $232…. Chevy parts Canada sells it for $52. Mechanic charges $320 cad part and labour
Thanks buddy

Yes it did.

Was ur truck being sluggish in between 1and 2 rpm then would accelerate fine after 2rpm while driving noticed my truck is running cool
No I did not have this issue with the bad thermostat. Only symptom was the low temperature for me
My tempature won’t go above the second line above 160 sometimes drops below while driving
@@jamespalmer2662 sounds like the thermostat sticking open to me. But you say it feels sluggish also so could possibly be a faulty coolant temperature sensor? Hard to say but I would start with a thermostat since it is usually the cheapest
I was under the impression you didn’t have to change the thermostat housing
I have the Same problem Right now. Big fan Noise turns on and Thermostat Stays at Cold. Doesn’t even move up. What Can I do Thanks 🙏
You found the problem I'm assuming?
That’s probably your CTS (coolant temperature sensor) which should be right next to the thermostat
Change both, thermostat is not far behind, easier to do it all once
@@andrewfahey3736 of course but was just telling him what else it could’ve been since he was asking
If the thermostat sticks open ,the proper engine can’t be reached, so the ECM senses a coolant issue so it kicks the fans on high speed
Just replaced my thermostat. Appears to be leaking. new housing had gasket and i tightened nice and snug. Any ideas?
Is it leaking from the gasket area?
@@jstoned1 yes it was. I used the old housing and it seems to be good now

@@samuelgregarek97 so did you put the other new parts onto the old housing?
Changed my temp sensor on 2014 searra..fans still running and no a/c any suggestions Guys or Gals?
The condenser leaking is a common issue on these trucks, had to replace mine when the a/c quit working. Buy a little test kit to see if it has leaks
@@jstoned1 thanks for the info! I recently changed that so now I'm guessing the thermostat but 1st I'll take it to a shop and run a diagnostic test.
It turned out to be the thermostat...$350 bucks lab/parts and tax.

you gotta disconnect your battery reboot the system

Need to bleed the air out of the system.
Think I will change my fluid so I will drain it then replace it
Good idea I need to replace mine as well. My coolant reservoir is cracked so I’ll change it at the same time
can this cause the heater from blowing warm air instead of hot air??????
I guess that depends how cool it is running. It would definitely lower the temperature of the heater
