Today I give the Meta/Oculus Quest 3 a 3 month review. I cover passthrough, mixed reality, performance, PCVR, link, games, controllers, and how it stacks up against the Quest 2. Check out my other videos for VR Tips & Tricks, Top 10's & News.
If your video was featured & you haven't been credited feel free to contact me via Twitter DM.
I do not own any of music, extra video clips images, chroma key, or sound effects used in this video. Or at least most of them, some stuff is mine.
My channel is about VR Content (obviously lol) I've covered many topics on this channel in the past such as PC Building, PC Gaming Knowledge, Gaming News. That can be CPM rates, Industry knowledge, Business knowledge, how to edit, how to build a gaming PC, budget or not. But VR is cooler so I'm probably gonna keep doing that.
I'm like the monkey you send into space for tests. I just come back with the results and give them to you for FREE.

Hi
I’ve been joined for a year
Post-watch: very good vid
ive been here since 10 seconds ago
@@wideputin109 i have been hare for 10yors
joined once i got my quest 2 boss i always take your vids to heart when i get stuff thanks boss.
I never saw the Quest 3 marketing. I think the passthrough is INCREDIBLE for the price. Especially when compared to quest 2. Never experienced it but from what I can tell, the technology is very powerful with full colour, low latency, clear, passthrough, as well as it being able to see geometry in the room and interact with it in mixed reality.
There’s delay in your movements and the pass through is bad at managing light bleed, black text on white background disappears completely and the warping gives you a headache, it’s perfectly usable for games and convenience but it’s a novelty, i can’t even read things off my phone with it, I only got quest 3 for the stronger chipset and nicer controllers, if you don’t need either of those there’s no reason to upgrade
@@ItsGamein Other people can read their phone, maybe you have a busted unit
Yeah I can read my phone and black text on a bright white screen. For the screen it's an angle thing.
@@ItsGamein Ahh I see. I totally understand what people mean now, thanks for sharing :)
@@jaxondabac8808 actually after seeing some videos of people simulating their own film grain in passthrough people might be right about me having a bad headset, mine looks way worse than other people's quest 3s
I don't think people understand how big of a jump the Q3 is compared to its predecessor. It's an INSANE value at the price point. I get $500 is nothing to sneeze at, but in a niche market where the average headset price is closer to $1k, getting 90% of a $1k headset for half the price is wild.
Right I don't understand the hatred for the device. Haven't gamed on my laptop since having the q3. Side loaded chrome and other apps. I mainly use GeForce to game. Q3 is a beast to be honest. Especially if u had the q2
@@thatbemeacb1870 Thanks ! good to know it is so significant. I wasn't sure if i would bother, But I think this video and your comment just convinced me, lol.
mixed reality is still so new, ppl arent sure how to price it yet, but AVP It's helping putting things into perspective a little bit better as the technology progresses. I feel like most headsets will end up being the cost of an iphone or small laptop by the end but be able to Do so much more.
We just gotta wait for the quest3 exclusives
Ironically Meta is losing money per unit on this. It's the same as consoles, they're relying on accessories and games to make money.
Honestly the Quest 3 is such a massive upgrade from the Quest 2 I absolutely adore this thing.
I used it more in 1 week than my psvr 2 in half a year so that says a lot lol
For me it feels like what Q2 should have been like.
I agree 100%. Just the improved visual clarity with those pancake lens make it worth the price. I absolutely do not regret buying the Q3.
man if there a difference from quest 2 to quest 3 I can’t imagine upgrading from my quest 1 lol
Just the visual quality of the Quest 3 is night and day difference alone, Quest 2 feels like your constantly squinting, where as 3 is nearly crystal clear. It's also easier to change the batteries on the remotes on 3 as there is a button that you press instead of just pressing and pushing down like you do on 2. The remotes are better without the tracking rings, in VRchat I can't even count how many times I've clunked those rings against my VR headset. If anything I do prefer the part that presses against your face on the Quest 2, it fits a bit better, where as the 3 it's a bit awkward.
yup this creator seems to be trashing Quest 3 an unreasonable amount. Probably has Apple AR/VR on order to aid view count
I know a lot of reviewers where hard on the passthrough, but in my experience the universal reaction to the passthrough from my VR veteran friends has been "Oh, WOW!".
Same the best part is how seemless lifting off te headset is.
Vision Pro is way better.
@@Cultural_Savantthe vision pro is fucking $4000
@@professoruglyllama5538 And? Meta Quest feels like a McDonalds toy. The pass through is incredibly laughable. Quality of a 2006 flip phone.
@@professoruglyllama5538 Like just say you're broke and move on.
The battery life is fine. Lasts like 2 hours at which point i want a break anyway.
for real. I never play for more than like an hour and a half in one sitting
Exactly. 95% of the users end up wanting to take a break after 2 hours. The other 5% who are really into playing all day long would end up just buying external battery headstraps or would save up for more powerful PCVR headsets.
I got a 20k Powerbank and a 0,8m USB cable .. fits in my pockets perfectly and I can play as long as I want ( but most of the times I also want a break after 2 hours)@@OriiPingu
I think the word disdespair is a good description of how I feel when my car breaks down too.
all i care about are vr games, real triple A games, not android level games. I havent used my quest 2 in many months because of that, it just doesnt have much of a catalogue right now.
Had the constant urge to clear my sinuses the whole time watching
I would love a Quest 3 for just the improved displays and nothing else, but the price just isn't feasible for me atm. When I save up the money for the headset plus the necessary accessories, I might consider upgrading but honestly the Quest 2 is enough to have fun and that's all I really need.
I agree. Quest 2 is more than enough, especially if it's your first VR headset.
@sebaleal3081 getting q2 now or wait for 1.5 years to get enough money for q3?
@@The_trash_content Buy a used Q2 now for cheap (~$150) and then buy a Q3 later if/when you have the money.
I’m reading this and then getting on my quest 1😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@IGotThosFromTheManInTheAlley LMAO, yeah I can't forget about the quest 1 💀
It's okay I used to be perfectly happy with my PSVR 1 (which is tracked using a camera on top of my tv)
Great video and format. User submitted questions pretty much covered everything on my mind. I’ll probably pick up a used Quest 3 in the next couple months. Mainly PCVR on my Quest 2 now. 👍
I’ve never treated VR as a replacement medium, it does create some immense cool scenarios that only VR can do well. However there are things I would rather just use a powerful laptop or computer to do. Point being that I don’t have an incentive to pick up a quest 3 because I feel that the 2 does the job well enough. (I mostly use PCVR anyway so processing power and battery life are rarely things that factor into my experience)
Thanks mate, I am now getting the quest 3. Great vid. My first vr
upgraded after having quest 2 for about 3 months and yeah its crazy better
the honest truth is that i still live with my parents, and they kinda don't want me wasting my hard earned money on a new headset when i already have on.
will be getting one when i move out lol
I wish boomers understood concepts such as "this thing can be the same type of thing but a billion times better instead of a slight upgrade"
@@toat_ well, they are strict. So.
Wait a minute, your hard earned money?
Unless they are taking rent from you and you wouldn’t be able to pay them if you bought the headset I don’t see how the fruits of your labor and how you spend it is anyone’s concern legally and ethically.
They should be proud you are able to buy your own stuff without them having to pay.
@@SuperJonathanmatthew I doesn't really matter, brother.
My parents are Uber strict, and treat me like shit usually.
I'm unfortunately though getting kicked out this month.
Good luck brother, independency is bliss
Im thinking about selling my Index. Its too hot, my face hurts and its heavy wearing it, the base stations are a pain in the ass and adjusting the index to get to the sweet spot is near impossble. I only use it like twice a year and theres a black spot from sun burn in.
Ive my eyes on the Meta Quest 3. Seems like it doesnt have those issues. Good idea or not?
Get as much as you can for the index while there might still be a market.
I sold my Index and bought two Quest2 when they came out, wireless and playing colocated with others was such a game changer, never looked back, never noticed minor loss of fov, framerate, or stock sound. Quest 3 is better yet.
Just bought it today. Great timing
Me watching reviewers review the quest 3 and compare it to the quest 2 when I’m still rocking the quest 1 and loving the bad hand tracking on Q1 😭😭😭
Bruh I have oculus rift
I have Meta Quest 3 and I love it!!
Do you think its better to play pcvr with the quest 3 or a quest pro?
Yo Hip checked your channel after finnaly getting a PC and I was wandering what should I get for PcVr
i have zero vr devices.. unless an old vernee m2 in a shinecon counts.
anyway.. i was just wondering .. can u use the quest 2 with the quest 3 controllers? and vice versa?
I upgraded from rift s to quest 3 and dont regret it at all, being able to use it standalone is really cool but i mainly got it for wirelss pcvr, and that works flawlessly with virtual desktop and an wifi 6e access point. Battery life is waay better when doing pcvr too.
lol I’m on the quest 1😭
Whats this headset like if you wanna sit on a couch most of the time and use it?
Instead of wasting money on battery straps and blah blah blah, just get a comfortable halo strap, get the long quest link cable, get some dry wall hooks and retractable cable hangers, plug the link cable into the wall. There you have it, you could play all day long just like I did, no cable in the way cuz it’ll be above your head on the ceiling, and no extra weight from bulky exterior batteries.
Is it just me who feels like we are doesn’t hit the same anymore, but still watches gethip
Yeah
I'd say its mainly just aging.
engrish
Weird how no mention was made of the Vision Pro when it was just released yesterday.
i think the novelty is gone, but i still use vr quite a lot and im very happy with my quest 3. i think the next step in vr is to get to a resolution and pixels per degree that makes the screen completely disappear and brightness that is equal to the outside world. for comparison the quest 3 has a brightness of 100 nits to the eye and we need at least 10.000 nits to be somewhat believable to real life and even then that still very far away from the 1.6 billion nits the actual sun produces at noon.
i think that even that tough would not really be novel anymore since its just the same concept as before but better.
i think the true next wow moment is believable touch and other senses than vision and hearing. when we get believable touch i think that will be an insane upgrade.
i think believable locomotion is also very important but there is already some awesome development from Disney that solves walking on the spot basically completely if the tech gets cheaper and a little more advanced.
That brazurk guy at the start who talked about the battery in a very smart and sophisticated way seems super cool and very handsome
Wonder who that could be lmao
Quest 3 passthrough is worth it if you get Virtual Desktop and use chroma key passthrough mode to play wireless PCVR. I'll never forget the first time I invited someone over to a green screen world in VRChat and saw their avatar standing in my own apartment! (Your mileage may vary based on how much of a VRC nolife you are.)
i've been planning to buy a vr headset but i don't even know what the fuck i'd do on it. are there any actual good games ?
should i get the 128gb or 512gb version of the meta quest 3?
Hilarious last bit... there with you bud
honest question does the quest 3 battery life even matter if I'm going to use it as a pc vr?
Did you try this with PC VR? My primary use will be with DCS and other PCVR games such as H3VR, Pavlov, VTOL VR. I will be switching from a Reverb G2 since HP doesn't support them anymore and Windows will be dropping WMR support
Does it get hot when used for pcvr?
if my budget is low but i’d still like to be in metaverse would you recommend getting a QUEST 2 or a QUEST 3 LITE (when it eventually comes out).
Thanks, I got myself a PSVR2, GT7 and a racing wheel + pedals.
Bro has good taste with that Hawkeye wrx 🤟
What was that dinosaur shooting game you were playing in this video?
Any airlinks that work good? 100 racks for one seems a bit too crazy
i have try 2 quest 3 and both have alots of light lens reflexion glare you can see them in all the lens pancake, this is the biggest problem, they should replace those pancake lens, not same kind of defect as quest 2 lens, the view is better in quest 3 except those glare reflexions they are visible in high black and white contrast, let me know if you got them too, seem some have less of those
I’m waiting to buy mine, should hopefully get it next week
Already broke my finger 2 times from punching my wall though😭
2 hours with this kind of headset is honestly a good time frame in which to take a rest
Yeah I cant go for 30 minutes without needing a break. Never played more than 2 hours
Can it connect to your play station?
If you have bright white lights the pass through is phenomenal! At first I thought the pass through was meh, but I stayed at a hotel one night with the perfect lighting for it and it blew me away. Needless to say I changed all my lights in the house 😂
I bought a Rift S in 2019 and it still works just fine, even though I barely ever use it. Should I upgrade to the Quest 3 anyway, for some reason, or should I just save myself the money by holding on to my Rift S because it still works well?
even a upgrade to the quest 2 would be a big difference, but as you said if you barely use your headset now would it be worth it to get a new one just to collect dust after a few uses?
I feel for the guy who broke his thumb, I've hit my hand against walls and desks while playing and it stings a ton. The boundary should have a distinction between horizontal rather than being merely a wall... But oh well.
I upgraded to the Quest 3 and now I see my bald spot in stunning clarity, thanks Meta/Oculus!
Is the battery saver bug fixed?
Q3 512 - just under 1000.00 dollars here in Canada and if you need a replacement you will get a refurbished unit just don't expect a new unit..and hope it works out of the box..
Been thinking about it, but since i only do PCVR sim racing im still on the fence about an other USB headset, really wish that thing also had display port.
I got the 80 dollar usbc cable for pcvr and when playing (even just in the quest, not on pcvr) hooked up to the pc for power the battery lasts forever on the quest 3. PLUS with UEVR mod being released, the improved visual quality of the headset visuals helps with the pc games not looking like complete ass on the headset.
My first quest 3 completely died after three months so I had to get a replacement. Also went through two elite strap with batteries and just received my third today. Sucks that I have to just cross my fingers that my devices will finally work. The headset has been more of a headache for me given all the issues I’ve had.
Besides that, I do love it when it works, especially the color pass through and graphical quality. Battery life is meh but better when the elite straps work as they should.
quest 3 or pico 4 for pcvr?
I got my 100 GB quest 3 a couple months after release. I'd say it's worth the upgrade, especially if you're looking to sell your old one like I did. I'm hoping this video can convince at least a few people to pick one of these up. By the way, I know the pain of having a busted car, hope you get it figured out soon. And one more thing: outside of the kiwi, of course, what 3rd party battery strap would you recommend?
Not me consuming every quest 3 content before my headset arrives *cries in anxiety*
Can you talk about echo vr and if there is a way to download it again
I’ll buy the headset soon hopefully.
Waiting for VR headset producers to notice that 75% of their potential buyers wear glasses. That, and $300 is pretty much my price point.
You are spot on about glasses.
For me, $500 is my price point.
It's crazy lol u right about that the ppl who are interested in VR are gonna go blind due to quality rn and miss out on higher tech in future 😂
We the test dummies
Contact lenses ?
@@Mitch-vp7mnCan't wear them. Corrective lenses should be part of the package. The cost for them is quite low. The cost for me is somewhat higher. I'm just saying that 3/4 of their users need corrective lenses. Should they appeal to their users?
nice gethip!!!!!
I actually got more motion sickness watching the video transitions and pop outs than I do on Quest 3! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
@GetHip look for an old school GC8 in manual, my dad had one, basically a WRX without a turbo.
I'm not sure if this is different between headsets... but with PCVR, despite charging very slowly... i still can get well over 2 hours. I even thought they did something that optimized the battery (other then that thing to reduce quality, which i don't use)
Back when I used the quest 2 I wanted more battery life but I accidentally bought 2 external batteries and couldn’t sell the second one so it stayed in my closet and when I got the quest 3 instead of buying a buying a quest 3 battery pack I just took the quest 2 external battery apart and 3d printed new side pieces to make the quest 2 battery snap onto the quest 3
I’m still using the quest 1😭😭
What is wrong with this guy talking? He sounds slow but talks fast.
It's like he keeps water in his mouth whilst talking 😅
Bruh, what's the point of talking shit.
What the point of hating on how someone talks?
i watch it in 1.25x but it felt like 1.75x idk why
he's british
What about the visiual glitches though, were they fixed during the last software update?
visual glitches? what visual glitches?
i got my quest 3 for £350 from my brother. he liked it, but it gave him headaches and he was past the return window. super happy with my purchase! it's my first vr headset and I was SERIOUSLY missing out. i was always worried that i would get headaches or it would give me motion sickness. i don't get either, luckily! i have ordered the bobavr m3 pro strap though, as the included one gets pretty uncomfortable after around 30 minutes.
VR really is incredible, happy that i got to experience it at it's best at such an entry level price point (in context of course, i respect that it's still expensive)
i use a das headstrap with adapters and i find the weight distribution to be the best so far for standalone headsets. i am finally out of facial pain during long sessions and as for battery mine slowly discharges while on cable or using a battery pack. i have never seen it below 80% so idk wtf people are doing with their headsets lol
Is thay Caravan in the background in the intro!?
Succession & Whiplash definitely the best way to catch my attention for a review !
what would make me buy one? displayport over usb c or just regular DP connection, so i can have pcvr without any compression and added latency. with permanent power supply. i would still be using my index controllers tho, cant compete with the knuckles. saying that always gets countered with "well use 940mbit" and well. play foliage heavy games like modded skyrim and you see that even 940mbit istn enough because compression and smal moving objects are not friends
@gethip great content and honesty as compared to other Vr UA-camrs that seems to be bribed by a particular vr vendor. I have the Kiwi strap with battery but I don’t t need the extra battery capacity just trying to get max comfort. Have you tried the Kiwi elite strap with battery? If yes how does it compare to the Kiwi comfort strap in terms of of comfort? Who wins the fight less weight or better balance due to battery?
Thank you for your help deciding
Any recommendation on storage options? Still cannot decide to go with 128 or 512
@@rangerkayla8824 Thanks, I’m literally at Bestbuy right now trying to exchange for the 512g.
love the video
Can you send me the link to ur fav headstrap?
I use my quest 2 for PCVR and it does what I need really well. No sense in upgrading till my headset breaks
Quest 3 is my first VR headset and im in loveeee. I feel like its underpriced and I just brought a power bank and put those in my pocket to get more battery life ha
i m also going to buy today can u tell me movie experience in this pls. i want to buy it specially for movies
@@GurjantSingh-kn6tdpretty sure theres an app called “bigscreen”
I'm still using my quest 2 you talked me into buying lol
Sooo if I’ll mainly use it as a budget Vision Pro it’ll be good?
Yeah probably because its significantly less money and the pass through is pretty good and there are apps to use your quest as a pc monitor
i want to get one but i would like the more storage but the fact its like £700 makes me want to cry
Daaaamn homie really used Overture from Whiplash!!!
I just got the quest 3. It is a major upgrade over 2. The battery thing is no issue to me as i own multiple 10k 30. Watt porable chargers. I could play all day if I wanted to.
The quest is marketed as a gaming device. The 2 games just fine for most people. If it’s not enough you buy an index or something.
The Quest 3’s selling point is pass through and productivity, which quest users don’t care about right now
Impressed at this video! Was worried it'd be more clickbait meaningless overdramatic rubbish with literally 10 sound effects every second, but I'm really glad the video has actually helpful content and that you've significantly cut back on the obnoxious engagement bait editing. Hope to see you continue to improve!
loved the yachty at the end
A new video yippi
I just got mine a few weeks ago with the kiwi strap and I love it. But from the consumer standpoint it’s very pricey to the point that it’s not worth upgrading every generation. It’s priced at 7000 kr here in Sweden and I managed to sold my Quest 2 to compensate the upgrade. And with this age of economy people only want to spend less on anything unimportant.
I have a 10,000mah battery that cost $10 on sale. I use a $10 phone holster on my back and it lasts 8 hours. I got a few strap clips to hold the wire from esty and its perfect, cheap, and doesnt add weight to the headset. 10/10.
So about the battery life... I always used my link cable connected to the charger, so I got more than 3 hours of play time. It never ran out of battery for me
I have a quest 2 and the only thing that’s keeping me from upgrading is the lack of eye tracking. Q3 is a great headset tho.
Only a speed addict with 10 redbulls in his system could enjoy a video cut like this
lol.. drop it ti 1.7 speed.. lolol.
Just got the Quest 3 a couple days ago as my first VR experience.
You guys weren't kidding about motion sickness 🤢
Feels like it's gonna take a while to adjust.
Mission One on Quest:
Get to a point where I don't want to barf after half an hour.
Progress:
Getting there.
Really glad I can just relax and watch or play music on UA-cam and stuff in between though.
Honestly probably the biggest and highest quality screen I've ever had.
(Don't laugh at my broke self 🥸)
But I've wanted to play Skyrim VR many years before it was ever announced.
So VR Headset check, only the PC left to go.
Probably need to get my VR legs steady before I try running around an Open World anyway.
I can barely handle walking across a room in Red Matter 🫠
Watched your videos on The Quest 2 when it was new.
Apparently I had great timing when I felt that desire to try aiming for a headset and pc again, as The Quest 3 had only just released.
Anyway that's my ramble.
Just wanted someone to know I'm struggling the motion sickness lol.
Glad I finally got a headset.
And if all goes well, it shouldn't be too long before I save enough for a PC and can finally play Skyrim, Fallout and No Man's Sky on there through this.
fire video
I like it
The one problem I get with my quest 3 is that sometimes it doesn't want to boot up.
I purchased the AMVR facial interface and the Kiwi battery strap for my Q3. I am very pleased with this setup. Q3 visuals are awesome for a $499 headset.
Came for the headset, liked for the subaru
For me it's the price, if the Q3 was U$250 I would have bought one already. Till then, I'll keep playing PCVR with my Q2.
I already have my third Quest 3 headset from Meta and all of them have quality problems. I have dead pixel and particles in the lenses. Is it normal with the particles? Looks a bit like looking through a dirty window. does anyone know the problem?
Someone needs to get into concussion protocol.
