Audi C7 ZF-8 Transmission Fluid & Filter Change DIY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 січ 2020
- This was a highly requested video that I was finally able to get around to completing. It is a fairly involved processed, but if you have the right tools it is 100% doable for all of you DIY'ers out there. As always, please watch the entire video with the sound on so you hear all the commentary.
Tools Needed (I think this is everything):
-Vag Com (VCDS)
-18mm socket
-13mm socket
-12mm Triple Square
-Various torx sizes (Some fairly large ones like T30)
-Open Oil Catch Pan
-Hand pump or Pneumatic Fluid extractor/dispenser
-10mm & 5mm allen keys or Hex Sockets
-Floor Jack (or something else to support transmission)
Parts Needed:
-6 Liters of ZF Fluid (You will only use 4.5-5 more than likely, but better to be safe)
-New ZF Filter
-New ZF Pan Gasket
-New ZF Pan Bolts (12)
You can get the entire parts kit from Europa Parts for about 230$ if you choose the Rowe ZF Fluid. For those of you that don't know, Rowe is the company that bottles the ZF Lifeguard, and is an OES for most German Car manufacturers in Germany. So instead of spending 28$-30$/liter of ZF Lifeguard, you can spend 15$/Liter on the Rowe ZF Fluid. Their engine oil is great too.
Torque Specs for everything (Courtesy of Vinng86 on Audizine):
-[2:05] Subframe Crossbrace: The 8 short bolts are 90 Nm + 180° turn, the 2 long bolts are 20Nm
-[5:34] For the 4 large bolts M10x55 and M10x40 on the subframe mount, they are 40 Nm and 70 Nm respectively (note the different lengths!!)
-[6:07] 4 inner nuts holding the Transmission Mount: 20 Nm
-[7:25] 3 bolts holding up the Transmission Support: 40 Nm
-[13:05] Oil Pan: 4 Nm + 45° (as shown in the video)
Tips and Tricks:
-Bribe a friend to help hand you tools and other things so you don't have to constantly get out from under the car.
-Make sure you have all the right tools for the job
-Invest in Latex gloves and knee pads
-Be careful when you get back under the car to top off the fluid while it is running... things get hot fast.
-Don't be stubborn like me. Wear eye protection.
-Plan ahead and change your Differential Fluids while you are doing this so you don't have to remove the trans brackets twice.
Special Thanks to Felek for his DIY video. I will link it below. It helped me work up the courage to do this myself.

Sooo many videos skip steps and/or have way too much shakey-cam, this is perfect and can be followed exact, thank you so much for this!!
Thank you!
M8! Herculean effort! What a good job you’ve done. Some owners would bottle it when facing this type of fluid change. Really impressed.
Outstanding video covering all the critical steps and potential mishaps.
Audis are a notorious pain to work on in this industry, so thank you for creating this to help us all out in the community. 🍻 ✌️
I performed this very task approx. 5 months ago on my 2012 A6 with 70,000 miles. Audi states life time transmission fluid... my ass. I have been turning wrenches for decades, everything from cars to F/A-18s generally, no such thing as life long lubrication. Transmission fluid came out black with filter magnets containing expected metal sludge.
I used a quick jack to raise vehicle and this made it much more comfortable to perform task vs. jack stands. Generally, my process same as yours but after putting all back together, I removed drain plug and drained pan again. Then following process replaced another 4 plus liters of oil. This guaranteed that I removed even more older fluid. Not as good as a complete flush, but high confidence that approx. 75% new oil in transmission.
One call out, but not a show stopper. All bolts in transmission mounts removed are one time use as they are stretch to torque. This is the aviation mechanic in me and I tend to follow OEM manuals to the letter (not always). The other item is that my Autel MK808 has an option to calibrate clutch packs after transmission service. I performed this task and shifting is a bit crisper.
Nice video and thank you for sharing. I never think about recording when I am performing maintenance and/or mods. Feel free to reach out as I have many upgrades on my A6 and she is a reliable beast.
Thanks for the feedback! And yes... Nothing is lifetime lol. I know you are supposed to replace the trans mount bolts, and if I take them off again I surely will, but having said that I don't know one person that has done this and reused the bolts that has had a problem. I figure it's not moving anywhere near as much as the suspension stretch bolts so one more good use should be fine. But it's never a bad idea to replace them. I will add this to the info in the description.
I've noted several sources mention that "lifetime" is considered 100K miles.
ZF itself recommends fluid change at 100k. If one drives a little aggressive, sooner is better, of course. Source: audizine.com posts.
Great video, thanks for the tips about the ROWE Fluid, and the re-fitting of the Pan with torque specs and sequence.
Thank you!
This video was great as I believe it was you as well who did the replacement for P2753 and this video you took off the cross member and told me the viewer it was an 18mm bolt...super informative!!! 😃👍
I'm looking at getting a A6 and your vids are really selling me on it knowing there are such great DIY vids available
It’s a great car. I love mine
Thank you!
Awesome job - super helpful pointers!
Thank you for this video! Very descriptive and clear!
No problem!
Very good vid! Got pricing from workshop (that didnt laugh at me, lifetime oil) around 1600$..got the parts myself for 200 and did it today, worked like a charm! ZF did even send a manual with the kit, BUT didnt succed with their manual.. thx 🙏
Glad this helped you!
Wanted to comment and apologize to those of you I didn't respond to in the comments until today. For whatever reason I didn't get notification on a lot of your comments.

Very well done DIY video!
Thank you!
Best video thannks so much for this man super appreciative didn’t have the right tools so I’ll be doing mine next week
Let us know how it goes!
Great video, very detail, well done. I'm planning to do the same on my 2015 A8. One suggestion, I would install all the transmission mount and undercarriage brace back on before filling up the transmission and starting the car. Starting the car with the transmission supported by a floor jack makes me nervous.
Very nice video, great commentary
Thank you!
Definitely enjoyed this video. I appreciate commentating over a recorded video with sped up intervals that doesn't include all the background noise and especially wind!!! I agree with a few others that have mentioned installing the transmission mounts and support brackets first before starting the car. Last thing anyone wants is a nice transmission to serve as a sledge hammer either on the bottom of your car or the ground. I do advise one thing for you.... position of the jack stands. I couldn't help but to notice that it was protruding into your side skirts a bit. After periods of time doing several DIY's, your side skirts will start to bevel out and chip paint. What I have done with my Audi is jack up on the frame itself, then install jack stands on the lift points. Our cars have an immense amount of heat shield plastics under the car but jacking right under the frame has never damaged my heat shields. Additionally, I have never heard of the particular oil you mentioned and used. I will definitely give them a shot!
Thanks man! & yes, in hindsight I Def should have put the mount back in.
I've been putting the jack stands like that for years & an always careful not to damage the skirts. Having said that, imm going to pick up some pinch weld adapters for them to be safe 👍🏻
I agree, it was of pain in the a**. I was doing it on the ramps and still feel like I needed more room. Anyways, great vid!
Thank you! Your video helped me a lot.
But yes... It really makes me wish I had a lift at home!
GREAT VIDEO!!! THANK YOU!!!

Nice man thanks!!!
Nice! Glad I’m paying someone to do it lol
Hello merci pour les commentaires en français très bon travail je vais voir pour me lancer pour une vidange complète
Do you usually place the jack stands towards the of the jack points when working on the front end of the car? Asking cause there doesn’t seem like a really good place to set the jack stands up. Great videos. Super helpful as always.
Yep. If you look back at an earlier video you can find one on using jack stands & installing wheel spacers. It shows how I put them on the pinch weld.
I'm going to give this a try this weekend and follow step by step. I feel the oil needs to be change but dealer insists it likely won't fix hard shifts and may make them worse. What are some of the pros/cons you saw on your A6 after changing the oil?
I'm kind of in the same boat, just got an A6 and not super happy with the way it shifts. Did you end up doing the oil change?
Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful! I have a 2013 a6 3.0t with a stage 1 tune. I would love to ask you some questions about the way my transmission shifts. The company I am tuned with for the ecu and tcu are just giving me the run around. If it is possible to have a private conversation so I don’t get the tuner upset with me that would be great!
Sure man. Either DM me on IG or email me.
Wow, it's a really involved process. Before doing it myself, when the time comes, I'll compare the cost of getting done at vw/audi garage I know or at Audi (will definitely be more expensive) and see what the better choice is. One thing I noticed in the last scene of the vid, your jack stands weren't in those recessed holes where an adapter is needed, is that a safe point to put the stands? If so, how did you come across that?
Getting it done by a shop or the dealer will likely run you in the range of 1800$ if I'm not mistaken.
The jack stands are on frame rails which are perfectly safe to use. We actually have a video about that as well.
How many miles did you have since last oil change on this car? thx.
Hello, I own a q5 tiptronic 8 speeds with nwp transmission, Audi says it’s lifetime oil, but I’m not sure, is that the same transmission that I have ?
Great video, thanks. You don’t mention wether the car is running or not when you do the final fill.
After someone else commented I went back and checked the raw footage I filmed and the car is indeed running when I topped it off. That is the correct way to do it. Sorry for the initial confusion.
Thanks for the video. Is it necessary to have the engine running whilst you carried out the final top up of fluid?
Yes. It needs to be in park & idling.
www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-c7-platform-discussion-194/trans-service-diy-8-speed-2919359/
Can you flush the transmission oil without removing the brace or any brackets? Like you're not doing the filter, just the oil.
Great video!! Have you thought about doing the 3 differentials?
It is definitely on my list. I really wanted to get this done now that the car is tuned and I had everything to do it so I didn't wait to get the differential fluids. But when that day comes I will make sure I record it. Thanks for the support!
Audi C7 Owners International ua-cam.com/video/D0f3AYoE3cI/v-deo.html
Audi C7 Owners International that’s the only video directly from ZF that I found. There wasn’t a lot of info on changing it a couple years ago.
@@miket.8528 There are some good diy's on audiworld
👍
Hey great vid . I have a zf 8hp45 in vw amarok . Do you recomend this rowe oil in every zf transmission ? The zf life 8 is very expensive
Yep! Rowe makes great stuff. You can always email Rowe & confirm to be safe
Hey man great video thanks, I have a 2011 audi a4 quattro with the 8 speed also, do you know if the procedure would be the same for my car? I can't find any videos for it
Things are generally different for the A4's... I'm not sure if you have the same ZF transmission or not.
Hi the car was running and in park when you did the top up at the end ? Also did you do a gearbox adaption after oil change? Thanks brilliant video
what is the adaptation?
The car is on when topping off. It needs to be on when you do the fill, & between 40-45 degrees Celcius.
I’ve seen other videos on this diy and was hesitant but after watching you, I’m going to do it. My C7 only has 70k but I feel a lag when changing from P to D or D to R or R to D. Car shifts fine while driving though. I’m hoping changing the ATF will help eliminate this issue. What do you think? Any pointers? Thanks in advance. Cheers
It should help. If it doesn't you might need to go to the dealer to see if there is an update for your TCU available.
thanks for the awesome video! How many miles before you did this? also, i have the same car and same year, I noticed that your back up camera shows an ariel view as well as a rear view. Was that an update, or has yours always been like that?
If your car is stock it should be fine around 75k. If modified you should do it every 40k
@@AudiC7Owners its an auto and it's not modified. How often ?
Every 75k
Sir thank you so much for your video tutorial, can i use obdeleven to check temperature?
Yes you can
Hi There, did you perform the transmission adaption procedure after replacing fluid/filter?
Not immediately after. Did one later on but it didn't make any difference
Did I hear you correctly? The magnet is attached to the filter not the pan itself?
Wind and video Asia side how long did this take you in real time?
Yes, the magnets are attached to the filter itself.
If I did this without filming it, it would roughly take about 2 hours more than likely.
Awesome video, quick question though my 2013 a7 has a nnt 8 speed trans is that the same as a zf8? Can’t find any confirmation of it anywhere
Yes. NNT is the trans code, but it's a zf8 still 👍🏼
I live on a slope so getting the car level means lifting two wheels up (not all 4). Any issues you can think of with this? I assume with both the ebrake and your foot on the brake, there won't be any load anyway.
You have to have all 4 wheels off the ground with the car level to get the fluid level correct when filling
Great video info watching. Just curious if you have a video or info for my 2005 audi A6 3.2 MMI on my dash went out. No more radio, GPS, sound, visual, nothing. I'm sure my wife spilled water from her bottle on the console because the night lights aren't glowing red anymore. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Id start with checking fuses related to the components first. Sorry though, no video for ya on that car.
Just out of curiosity how much fluid did you end up using I'd like to drain after running for a few then refill with more new fluid and wanna know how much I should buy
I don't remember off the top of my head how much mine used exactly, but it would be different for each car.
Awesome videos. I want to get A6,C7 3.0TDI 2011-2014 so could you tell is there a big difference between the 2011-2014 and 2014-2017?
The C7 got a facelift (C7.5) in 2015. This is mainly cosmetic differences.
C7 = 2012-2015
C7.5 = 2015-2017
Thanks for your reply bud. But I wanted to know about the engine and transmission.
I'm not well versed in the TDI differences, and the engine/transmission options are different depending on what country you are in. Check out the Audi A6 Wikipedia page. I am pretty sure it will break down all the info you are looking for.
could you show how to jack C7 and put 4 jack stands under? thanks a lot
We have a video on that, but we are going to do an update to it 👍🏻
Rowe bottle says it is semi synthetic fluid while the others say they are fully synthetic. Are you sure it is safe to put Rowe in the transmission? Where did you get the information that Rowe bottles ZF Lifeguard?
Directly from one of their dealer reps. It is 100% safe.
Saw the jack stands were a bit off the jack points, how was the jack up done? Big deal, I keep seeing all kinds of weird stuff. Raise the rear until front is high enough?!?
Also, the HF black gloves are 9mil nitrile, much better than latex including oil/fuel resistant. I wear them the whole time I'm working, they save my dry skin.
I jacked the car up at the jack points and then put the stands under the pinch weld.
Some people refuse to do that, but it works for me. Just gotta make sure you are very careful when lowering the car onto the stand using the pinch weld.
do you need to reset the transmission via vcds or something similar after the job?
Some say yes, others say no.
Personally I don't think an adaptation is needed for a simple fluid/filter change but others will disagree.
Did you notice any changes 3 months after? How's the overall drive now that you've did the atf change
It's still running great. I noticed smoother shifts and haven't had any problems since doing the change.
Hello. Tell me, is this a factory transmission pan?
Yes
Did this service have anything to do with your trans going out? Just wondering because I just had a coworker blow a trans on a suburu 4 quarts underfilled because you have to lift it and put in drive and get the wheels going while filling it
Not at all. I explain why my trans failed in a video. That was 💯 user induced by first gear abuse
I love u man 🤣🤣
😂🤘🏻
When I’m topping the car off when it’s in the ideal fluid temp range should the car be running or just is the on/start position ?
Running
Can you use obd 2 port reader for transmission temp?
I suppose that depends on the capabilities of the obd2 port reader you have
Hahah dope do a motor mount video I cannot find any lmao
Actually about to order a set from 034 👍🏻
I did exact same transmission oil and filter change job for my 2016 A7 TDI engine. I filled the oil, but one question and concern. After leveling the car, initialy how many quarts you were able to put before it got filled and started spilling? I just finished this job but haven't started the car yet nor until I will feel comfortable. So far my car took almost 2.75 quarts and started spilling. Did same happened with you? And after starting and warming up the car to correct temp, how much more it took after?
Please do tell me, I will wait for your confirmation.
Mine took a little over 5l total. I think it took near 3.5-4l initially iirc.
Amazing detail. Advice on gotchas simply superb. The best informational video for diy services.
Thank you 🙏🏻
How much transmission fluid did it take on the initial fill?
Great job BTW!!!
Mine took about 4 liters, but it varies from car to car. I'd buy 6 to be safe
great video, made me realize i can do this lol, my question is i have an audi 2011 q5 2.0 with 106k miles, i've heard people say that you may not want to do this if you have high mileage, why not? and do you think 106k is still low enough for me to proceed with this? thanks
I would
Your mileage doesn't mean you shouldn't service your transmission. You absolutely should.
But make sure you have the same transmission... I didn't think the ZF was on the 2.0's
Great DIY thinking of doing this to my 2013 audi a6 3.0t but it has 129k I know alot miles but still runs great had it for 2 months now I daily it love it but I noticed lately the shifts havent been as smooth as before I feel them lil bit now you think doing this will smooth out them shifts ?
Let me know if you do yours I’m in a similar situation
Any updates, did it go normal? I'm looking to change mine since I have the same situation as you
It should smooth them out. You may also have worn engine mounts/control arms contributing to rough shifting.
No haven't done it yet had to replace the thermostat recently and crankshaft pully and oil change but it will next in my agenda and ill let you guys know !
Quick question, how many quarts does the transmission need? Thank you!
It has 9L in it, but you will never get all of it out. Buy at least 7L and then do the proper fill procedure. There is no set amount when doing the service.
Green transmission fluid? What did Hans and Franz run out of the red dye that transmission fluid has used for probably about 50 years at least if not longer.?
🤷🏻♂️
How did the aftermarket oil do? Was it compatible with the transmission?
Running great. Zero issues
Hello friend, did you warm up the engine before changing the oil?
yes he did
Yep, everything was warmed up, but not all the way up to temperature as I didn't want it scalding hot
Eight speed transmission? Will it be the same process for an 2013 A5?
If it comes with the ZF 8 speed then it should be.
LOVE the details GREAT WORK! I have to ask though, would the steps be the same for a 2015 Q5 2.0? I believe the whole fill till it leaks out then temp check then fill again till leaks out is the same? PEOPLE FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN AS WELL? I have some seen some videos where someone says leave room for expansion, others where the car is off again to finish filling. Which is it??
Thanks!
Does your car have a zf-8 speed?
@@AudiC7Owners I don't think so but thanks fot replying too. I am hoping someone else can assist if they know too?
So does the front and back of the car need to be on jack stands or ramps to get this done or just the front of the vehicle? I am struggling with this detail, I have a flat concrete garage surface.
Both ends need to be up & the car as close to level as possible.
@@AudiC7Owners thanks alot, Great video and channel overall.
Thank you!
Wow, high respect to you, doing that on the garage way without a car lift! I let it do directly at ZF, had the chance to watch them. They also replaced some valves and plugs, just as the gear already is open.
The only not so good thing I saw on your video was the place/spot where you placed your car lifter 😉 you will damage the frame by using the wrong position.
It's a pinch weld. I should have used a pinch weld adapter, but it's not going to hurt the car. I needed to put it there to get it up high enough to get underneath the car and work.
Thank you for the very informative videos. I have an A6 C7 2012 with GCC specs (UAE Abu Dhabi). I bought it from a friend of mine who has changed the transmission with a brand new one when the car had 182,000 kms on the meter. He did that after his original transmission failed after a transmission fluid change by the local Audi dealer. For this reason he advised me not to mess around with any transmission fluid changes even if done by the local Audi dealer. I bought the car when it had 234,000 kms on the meter, I am now nearing the 280,000 kms and the transmission has no signs of malfunctioning. Actually the whole car is in great shape. I hate to admit that I am driving this car rather conservatively at about 100-120 km/hr. This practically means that I am not stressing the transmission. What is your opinion? Should I go ahead and do a transmission fluid or not?
No matter what, on stock vehicles, or is recommended that the fluid is changed every 75k miles.
@@AudiC7Owners Thank you for the reply. I will have the fluid changed ASAP.
Nice video. I have a couple of questions if you have time. How is the car holdig up ? Im interested in buying an 2013 audi a6 3.0 T Quattro with the same transmission. This is a direct injection motor? Any problems at that mileage ? Thank you
There are maintenance issues to be aware of but overall the 3.0t is a very strong and reliable motor and transmission
@@AudiC7Owners what 😳 issues? Thank you should i be worried?
Depending on your mileage you need to change your thermostat/water pump/pcv/temp sensor.
Valves need to be cleaned on higher mileage cars.
The harmonic balancer tends to go bad on higher mileage vehicles as well.
I suggest you go to the C7 forums on audizine and read up. We will probably do a video on common issues in the future.
@@AudiC7Owners like to know if the same problems are for 2016 audi A6 3.0t model too, thanks
I'd imagine they are very similar but I can't verify.
Does OBDeleven also work as a tool I can use to see the trans temp
Yep!
Why you haven't use some air to push internal oil?
That is not recommended as it can damage the transmission
Would you advise against a flush instead of drain and fill? 2014 with 70k
Yes. Flushes can damage these transmissions
Is the same process and on Audi a4 b8 2.0 tfsi quattro year 2014?
If it is a ZF transmission, then it will be very similar if not the same. If not, then you should look up a DIY specifically for it.
hello good people ...which are the intervals between changes? of the fluid transmission of course?!
Audi says it's lifetime, but that's absurd. ZF (the manufacturer of the transmission) states every 75k miles. If you are tuned, most suggest doing the fluid every 40k-50k.
@@AudiC7Owners thank you sir :)
It is the same on my Audi a6 allroad c7 2017, 320hp? With 8 stage tiptronic.
Yes, it should be
How does that work temp wise which your doing it during summer. Its currently a 100 here. I'm sure the fluid isnt to far from that temp just sitting in the bottle. Freezer I guess?
I did it this summer (southeastern NC) & just had to let the car cool down overnight.
@@AudiC7Owners hey so I did some more digging on some forms and I think what through me off is you said 30 to 45 degrees, and I took it as Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. To easy of a mistake to make. German car, I should have known. Thanks for the video.
A little late to this but I've got a c7 a6 with 125k on it. I don't think it has ever had a tranny fluid change and the tech said it was getting 'dark'. Would you suggest just doing the drain plug (with fill plug removed) drain, and top off with new fluid? This would probably only replace 3 qts of fluid, but I feel if I do a full fluid change and filter I could possibly see slippage. Thoughts?
You should absolutely do a full fluid/filter change
@@AudiC7Owners appreciate the quick response to this! I guess it would have been good to put in there that it shifts harder from P to R to D in the cold..which I know is coming from the transmission. Does that change your opinion?
I'd definitely start with a fluid/filter change to see if that makes guy difference
I have a A4 2013 I wonder if is going to be the same steps?
I'm not sure if the b8's have zf transmissions.
Hello, wnated to change Transfer Case (Torsen System) fluid also, found fill up plug but cant find drain plug for it, maybe you know where its located ? or it does use the same fluid as trasmission !?Then why they build the fill up plug for transfer case :((( :D Thank you !
The transfer case fluid is a very special fluid that costs about 100$/bottle and you should only get it from the dealer.
You can use this video to find the fill plug for the transfer case.

@@AudiC7Owners yeap its G 055 145 A2,, I'll watch it, thank you !
@@AudiC7Owners Its really just 75W-90 with Sturaco friction modifier in it. Guys on Audizine forums traced the oil back to original manufacturer, found their technical papers, and showed that you can just take 75W-90, remove 40mL from a 1L bottle, and add 40mL of Ford friction modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A) for a fraction of the price. Thats what I did and no problems. Got rid of the quattro rumble when turning at low speeds.
when is trans fluid maintenance required on C7 platforms? or how often
For ZF transmissions about every 60-80k depending on your driving habits
Audi C7 Owners International what is ZF?
Doan Nguyen the name brand of the transmission
Did you need to do Transmission Adaptation at all with VCDS after doing the ATF svc?
Yes. I did it a few days later.
How do you do a clutch adaptation on an 8 speed auto?....
@@260k1s I did the method where you hold the accelerator pedal method but I'll be doing a new video about the adaptation procedure soon.
@@AudiC7Owners lol that's not a clutch adaptation. A clutch adaptation is for the 7speed dual clutch. You're talking about a trans reset I believe
@@260k1s lmfao I legit didn't even register "clutch". I saw the comment & just thought of the transmission adaptation that everyone else asked about. You got me lol
Is the VCDS step necessary to do this change? What happens if I skipped that step?
Yes. It is absolutely necessary. Filing it up at the wrong temperature & you risk under or over filling the transmission which could lead to failure of the zf-8.
If you don't have the tools to do this job, don't do it.
@@AudiC7Owners Can I use a OBD2 Scanner that reads the temperature? Or does it specifically have to be the VCDS tool?
Anything that can read the transmission coolant temperature
@@AudiC7Owners Oh okay great my obd2 scanner can do that. Thanks for the info, will be doing this once my kit arrives.
How does it drive after the service?
Drives great. The shifts are noticeabley smoother.
is this the same process for the C7.5 quattro with the 2.0t engine??
I'm not well versed in the 2.0t engines, but I thought they came with the multitronic cvt transmission?
@@AudiC7Owners no, cvt in the front wheel drive, quattro has zf 8speed
Then it should be the same
Can the brace being removed be used as a jack point?
Not sure I'd do that
@@AudiC7Owners I’m finding it difficult to find a spot for the jack and jack stand, would you have any advice?
Me *watches this video, then takes it to the dealer anyways* XD
How much?
Thats too much to pay lol
Leandro Garcia ive got 115000 miles on and idk if its even worth to change it because i read that putting new fluid in can actually damage your trans then the older fluid with higher mileages. Im stuck debating that with my self.
Change it. Then change it in regular intervals.
How much fluid did it take?
This will vary between cars, but right at 5L
Yeah my f30 335i (8HP45) took 5,5liters with the engine running and trans temp at 45deg celsius.
like like like
Got a question for ya:
Would you say $900 is a reasonable price for a tranny fluid change on a 2016 rs7? And if no, what would you say is reasonable?
I'd say for a quality mechanic that knows what they are doing that is an acceptable price for an RS7 including materials.
@@AudiC7Owners thanks for the feedback!
How many liters of fluid was needed?
Just over 5
So Audi does not have a flushing machine or tool for this transmission. On the Rams there is a thermostatic control valve that has to sense warm enough fluid temperature to let trans fluid flow to the cooler and back in which case you would dump the return line into a bucket to flush the fluid out completely. On this car I'm not sure there is so one could simply do a fluid flush by dumping it into a bucket until it stops running and filling it again and running it until it stops flowing all from the return line of the cooler. Or wherever it can be drained from.
Nope. On the audi they advise against flushes as a flush (with any kind of pressurized movement of the fluid) could damage the trans.
@@AudiC7Owners the manufacturer ZF wants the fluid changed every 60 to 80,000 miles. The job's not worth doing if you can't flush it. I did a flush on a diesel A6 and the rough shifting disappeared. I put in redline d6.
Every 75k is recommended for stock vehicles. Every 40k for modified.
A flush isn't really needed. The biggest thing is swapping the internal filter along with draining/replacing what you can
The temp you need is 30-40c not 45c. It’s very important you don’t go over 40c on the zf8hp. If it’s the zf6hp 30-35c. Great vid though I’ve watched it twice now
Have a link to anything specifying this? Every vw/audi mechanic I asked about this on the ZF said 35-45c.
Audi C7 Owners International look on zf web site they have service downloads
@@stephencrisp2991 coming back to this, from the ZF website they say 8 speed ZF transmissions should be over 40 C.
Manual says between 35 and 45c, when comes out from filter hole at this temperature, stop and filled should be good
