Repeating what others have said "Stop Making Sense" is one of the best live concert films ever made. Talking Heads has done something in this concert that few bands can do: Take the studio versions of the songs and ramp the quality up to eleven.

    • @Stiglr
      @Stiglr Рік тому +2

No, check that: "Stop Making Sense" is *THE* best live concert film ever made. PERIOD. Nothing else even comes close. And the genius of building a concert set from bare walls and rafters into a 14(?)-piece bandstand while the show's going on ... wow.

It's an incredible concert film and made me a Talking Heads fan. It was directed by Jonathan Demme, who also directed The Silence Of The Lambs, Philadelphia, and Married To The Mob. Well worth seeing.

The entire Stop Making Sense concert film is fantastic... another great track (even more high energy) is Life in the Time of War. You will see their extremely talented female bassist, Tina Weymouth, on that clip (only briefly seen here on keyboards).

I saw the film in 1985, just after completing a 30 day rehab for addiction. It was in a small movie house in Santa Cruz, California, and I couldn't stay in my seat. I had never danced sober before, but I went to the back of the theatre and tried to keep up with David Byrne's moves. It was a hell of a great way to begin my new life. I "stopped making sense" and I'm still clean and sober 38 years later. I'm very happy for your discovery of it.

Especially Bernie. Caught this concert tour live (and the preceding one as well) and it was obvious that Bernie Worrell's synth pulses were driving the band. Worrell's creations and touch on the synth were unparalleled. He brought the musical magic dust.

David Byrne is a musician and artist known for his work with the band Talking Heads and as a solo artist. He is known for his innovative approach to music and performance, incorporating elements of art, theater, and dance into his work.
Talking Heads was known for their eclectic style that blended elements of punk, funk, and world music. They were known for their intelligent lyrics and catchy melodies, and they were one of the most influential bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Byrne's solo work has continued to push the boundaries of music and art, incorporating elements of world music, electronic music, and avant-garde performance art. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Brian Eno, St. Vincent, and Fatboy Slim.
Overall, David Byrne's work has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in music, and he continues to inspire musicians and artists around the world.
Anthony Kiedis, said it best. "Some very strange things happened to me when I heard Talking Heads. For one thing, I felt smart. I'm serious, I listened to the Talking Heads, it made me feel smart, and that was a pretty good feeling,” Kiedis earnestly added. “Talking Heads also made me want to dance like a maniac, which also changed my life. He also said it made him want to #$%$ librarians.

This whole concert ("Stop making sense") is a must watch and listen, and yes.. Kanye was absolutely inspired by them 100%.
Another thing you will love from this concert is how it builds up from start to finish, you've never seen a concert being opened the way this one is.
The Talking Heads was unique then, and still are unique today, top tier for me.

I love this concert so much. I've watched it SO many times. Talking Heads were such a brilliant group. They had so many hits. David Byrne the singer/guitarist/songwriter has had an enormous career. I could recommend songs by I'd just be listing the entire setlist from this concert.
The backup singers here were The Brides of Funkenstein, they used to sing for Sly and the Family Stone. They were named by George Clinton as part of the whole Parliment Funkadelic projects. Bernie Worrell the Keyboardist in here was in Parliment Funkadelic and is one of the most sampled musicians out there. All that G-Funk rap from the 90s (Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre) sampled his music. Those big synthy leads in gangster rap is a call back to Bernie.

I love the Talking Heads so much. Without any doubt, one of the most creative bands of the late 70s and early 80s. Just amazing. Everything in this concert movie Stop Making Sense is incredible. But so are the cuts from their various albums. From this same concert, check out Life During Wartime, one of their biggest hits. And you will see even a lot more endurance physically than you see here. It's just insane. Plus it's a fantastic song and you also get to see Tina playing bass which is what she normally does. She was playing keyboards here.

I saw them on this tour (1983) which became the Stop Making Sense movie. This song was their current "hit". They played it relatively early in the show. A band that started out as a punk rock band, and morphed into a great world music band and all the flavors they visited in between. Huge involvement in places of music like Austin City Limits, CBGBs, and Max's. They were regularly found with the Ramones and Debbie Harry of Blonde. These are one of the few people who had an ok career in music but had an even bigger influence in boosting other talented people's careers, from the 70s to the early 00s.

The most overwhelming part is sitting w/ 10,000 others waiting while NOT ONE THING on stage. David came out, then Tina . I was 2nd row right in front of the 2 Beautiful backup singers. They drummer was supposed to be wearing the same color, or lack of color, but he chose to rebel against the plan.
The core members of the group are, for ease of recognition, the white members. The others are the touring band. The guy playing keyboards and making all of the weird sounds is Bernie Worrell. He was a member of Parliment/Funkadelic, which were fronted by a guy named George Clinton. Burning Down the House was something George Clinton would say in his concerts. That's where David Byrne, the singer here, got the phrase. I saw this tour live. It was great. This concert starts out with just the singer, his guitar and a boom box. Slowly they bring out more musicians and instruments, during the songs, till the full band is on stage.

Check out "Girlfriend is Better" from this same concert film (Stop Making Sense).

The Talking Heads were a fun band with quirky interesting songwriting and this whole concert is phenomenal.

Check out the finale to Stop Making Sense, "Crosseyed and Painless". They arguably left the best til last. Another good version is the Live in Rome, which is possibly even better, it's a toss-up.

That was live to boot. From probably the best live concert movie of all time,.Stop Making Sense. It's a must watch from start to end. A fusion of performance art and music never really seen b4 or since. Every tune from it is great.
Probably my fave band of all time.
