Later this year a cleaned up version will hit theaters again, to celebrate it's 40th anniversary (1984). If you have a chance to go and see it: DO SO! It is without a doubt the ultimate concert registration on film (big screen) with Talking Heads being at their absolute peak. The concert movie was directed by Jonathan Demme, who would go on to direct absolute classics 'The Silence Of The Lambs' and 'Philadelphia'.
Welcome to the fantastic world of David Byrne and the Talking Heads! This concert is named Stop Making Sense and it is one of the best and most energetic in history. You can choose any song from this concert, all are extraordinary!
Bernie Worrell ex- Parliament Funkadelic on keys. RIP If you want to check out the funky groove of Parliament Funkadelic check out Give Up The Funk, Cosmic Slop, Swing Down Sweet Chariot, Funkin' For Fun and Flashlight. Incredibly great musicians
It doesn't matter the genre of music (country, New Wave, classic rock, metal, etc.) - if the musicians and vocals are really into it, the performance will go off. The musical arrangement for this performance is incredible. It's a combo new wave, punk and funk. "Girlfriend is Better" is also a crazy performance from the same show that's worth checking out. BTW - loved BANANAS!!!!
I was not at this concert, but I did go see them every time they were in town (I lived in Washington DC at the time - so that included Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland concerts as well as in DC). ALWAYS the best concerts of the year each and every time! And since you wished you could see the audience - EVERYONE would be dancing almost the entire concert. Surprisingly, even what would have been the area for the mosh pit, would often be dancing in unison instead of the usual pogoing.
This tour, off the Speaking In Tongues album, the concerts were one big dance party from the jump. But for me,the previous tour in 1980-81,off their peerless Remain In Light album, that was the real corker. Dance our asses off? You bet. But that live lineup, with Busta "Cherry" Jones on bass and Adrian Belew, who would soon be off to hook up with Robert Fripp,Bill Bruford and Tony Levin to form the insanely great 1980's version of King Crimson...Holy Hell did those shows rock the Hell out.
I rode my motorcycle, 1400 km to a weekend concert in another state. Got to see so many great local and international bands, that weekend. I had never heard of this band before, they were an hour late coming on stage(memory is foggy now) at 11.30pm, I was blown away by the stage show(Stop Making Sense stage show/movie is great) that night. And now to see the enjoyment on your faces to witness something I did so many years ago is great.
@aretelivingarts 0 seconds ago I saw the restored 4K movie last night at a big theater in Brooklyn. Then the band came out and did a Q&A with Questlove. It was such a fun night. The whole way through the movie the audience was dancing and clapping and singing along.
Saw this in the theater when it first came out in 1984, its just one of the best concerts you will see anywhere. The way it was choreographed from the first song to the last is really very unique, probably unlike any show you will ever see. Highly recommend sitting down and watch the whole thing from start to finish.
Later this year it will have a new run in theaters. Can't wait to see it again on a big screen. For me the first time was 1986 in a small arthouse theater.
Buzz Killman a guy who was a radio guy in Chicago grew up with and friends with film director Jonathan Demme. They were at a Talking Heads concert and Buzz to Johnathan, "you should make a concert movie of them" and the rest is history. Johnathan put Buzz in cameos in most of his pictures.
As probably everyone else has said, you have to see the whole movie! I went to see it in a little art house theater in Dallas when it came out and was totally blown away. I still watch/listen to it about once a month!
I won't give you the location, year, or store...but this was playing on my radio, going to my job at a major grocery store, It was on fire. After two days of "recovery" we were told everything was a total lose (beer, meat, anything else). So naturally we "confiscate' the products and had a 2-day party.
The documentary, Stop Making Sense, of which this is a portion, was directed by Jonathan Demme, just before he directed Silence of the Lambs. If you wanna get a look at the audience, you'll have to watch "Crosseyed and Painless". It's the shows closer and the only time the audience is shown.
As below, it's definitely worth watching this whole concert. Love the way they start with an empty set and just David, then build the stage and add musicians as they go through their set list. In the meantime go watch Life In Wartime from this gig...amazing!
I have been to hundreds of gigs and in September of ‘83 at the pacific amphitheater I couldn’t believe what I witnessed. By far one of my top 5 shows ever. A couple months later they filmed this show. One of the few bands that are better live than the studio work.
This entire concert is fantastic. One of the best concert movies. Every track except one is a winner. And my favorite one didn’t even make the Final Cut.
"Stop Making Sense" stands as a true redefinition of rock performance....Bowie-level innovation....and ridiculously compelling. EVERYBODY SMILES, EVERYBODY DANCES....
Yes, you guys must watch that whole concert film, the music and performances are phenomenal!! specially the way the whole concert starts, (hint) Boombox.....
Having grown up in the 80’s with The Talking Heads it amazes me the perception of this group versus the reality of it. Because I originally seen the videos of the songs on MTV as a kid but when I first saw this footage in the 90’s it blew me away to actually see them preform.
They’re Rereleasing this whole concert film this summer in theaters. I’m taking my 28 year old daughter. I got to see this whole show live when it came to Berkeley.. dancing all night, everyone
This is the 40th anniversary of the release of this film, and it's out in theaters again. You can -- uh, no, you MUST go see in a theater. Your smile muscles will be worn out.
Talking Heads is a normally 4 piece band but this particular tour had a lot of supporting musicians. They don't normally dress in drab colors, but band leader, David Byrne, wanted this drab look while filming this concert film. As mentioned in comments the entire concert is worth watching as the band gets more musician on stage, song, by song.
When this movie came out, I was three day in a row in the cinema and is was always a party and no one was sitting 🤗 You have to listen to some songs from their album „Remain In Light“ from 1980. With no doubt the most influential album of the whole decade.😎 Not to forget: the producer was Brian Eno 🤪
I saw David Byrne live in Sydney many, many years ago with a full African percussion section and an orchestra... One of the greatest concert experiences I've ever had... But I have to say, this performance may... just may... have topped that.
Hey guys, I'm curious if you've heard a band like "Hollow point heroes" If not, I'm curious about the reaction to "Wasted time" or "Calm before the storm". I don't know if this band still exists, but they have or had amazing potential. I encourage you to search 🤘🤘🤘
It tickles me than you (younger) folks are grooving to the music (we boomers) grew up with (70s and 80s). We had thee very music on the planet. If you're not grooving to this, something is wrong with you!
My issue with some reaction videos is they're too eager to react and talk over stuff (it isn't just this channel). Also pay attention to the lyrics. Sometimes the lyrics are just as important as the music or the video.
That concert film is titled Stop Making Sense and is widely considered on of the best concert films ever made. TOTALLY worth watching in its entirety.
These guys were total entertainers.
Yes, you will be entertained the whole time.
Agree a must watch.

One of the BEST live performances I’ve ever seen! Live this one so much! Thanks for reacting 🔥
Guys, you have to watch more of this bands concert, Stop making Sense which this song is from, genuinely one of the best concerts ever !
Talking Heads were of the pioneers of new wave punk music in the 70's when they started out at famous CBGB's in New York.
Back then, Talking Heads concerts were a party. Great energy. I watch these live performances especially when I need a pick me up in life.
One of THE best live performances ever captured on video
Bernie Worrell ex- Parliament Funkadelic on keys. RIP

I highly recommend watching the entire movie. I've probably watched it 50 times. Great show.
they were like that on every song dancing and running around like that, loved it.💚
this performance is the definition of pure, unfiltered happiness. hope i can experience that one day!

Highly suggest "Life during Wartime" from this concert film.
I was never big into dance. BUT this song makes me want to get out on the floor. This gets the old blood pumping!!!!!!!! Thanks

Saw Talking Heads in Melbourne in the early 80's. All time favourite band.

@6:34 BANANAS
the love is real! it's so good!
You guys need to react to the full concert live one night. The whole thing is that wild.
As probably everyone else has said, you have to see the whole movie! I went to see it in a little art house theater in Dallas when it came out and was totally blown away. I still watch/listen to it about once a month!
I finished school that year and played in a three piece band with a David Byrne clone type of guy. Great times!🎉
You ain't seen nothing til you watch "Life During Wartime" from that same show/film.
If you love live performances, their film “stop making sense “ is a must see.
They definitely burnt down the house with that performance.
I won't give you the location, year, or store...but this was playing on my radio, going to my job at a major grocery store, It was on fire. G'day guys great work .Psycho killer is a talking heads classic

This entire concert is fantastic. One of the best concert movies. Every track except one is a winner. And my favorite one didn’t even make the Final Cut.

Yes, you guys must watch that whole concert film, the music and performances are phenomenal!! specially the way the whole concert starts, (hint) Boombox.....

The core band was four people, but the studio recordings had so many layered parts they had to tour with a big band.
Saw them live in Oz in '84. The best! One of my most fav bands.
This was peak rocknroll.
Road to nowhere and as she was. Two songs of my childhood that were always played.
They’re Rereleasing this whole concert film this summer in theaters. I’m taking my 28 year old daughter. I got to see this whole show live when it came to Berkeley.. dancing all night, everyone
Watch the movie stop making sense and I saw them live at Cbgb great live
Seminal New Wave group. The spinoff rhythm section was Tom Tom Club, and enjoyed success of its own.
This is the 40th anniversary of the release of this film, and it's out in theaters again. You can -- uh, no, you MUST go see in a theater. Your smile muscles will be worn out.

Tina Weymouth kills it on bass whether it’s bass guitar or bass keys.
I love you guys so much. I enjoy the other 2, too, but you guys are my favorite. And I LOVE the opening to your vids.
Stop Making Sense- the best"alternative" or whatever flavour album and film of the late 70's early 80's scene.. just fantastic
Incredible live performances by all of them!
You have to watch the performance of “ Life During Wartime “ from the same concert if you really want a great “ workout aerobics video” 😁
Born Under Punches, the choreography is incredible!!

Oh man, to go back to the days when you could get an entertaining show for $20.
