Someone in another reaction thread put it very well, observing that it's intended to be ironic. On one hand it's a rocking piece of music that will in fact bring the house down at a party, and at the same time it paints a picture of a very possible reality in which the enjoyment of music is a quaint memory. It's a reality that some folks seem keen to bring about these days in the US. I hope this song doesn't turn out to be prophetic. "Heard about Detroit?"
The movement symbolized what we would all be doing during wartime: running like hell. Byrne wrote the words after reading about the French underground resistance fighters during WW2.
Yeah, it seems to be a 'domestic resistance' kind of situation, hiding out, living on peanut butter etc. The references to Houston, Detroit and Pittsburgh are particularly chilling...
So glad that your generation is grooving to this performance. If you haven't been to the theatre to see the remastered run of this epic concert video, you definitely should. I was working at a theatre in the 80s when this film opened. My boss was very cool, and did not mind that I was inside DANCING with everyone of the other patrons. NO ONE stayed in their seats! Talking Heads still get me up on my feet and dancing whenever I put this DVD in!
It'd be fun to watch a reaction to the full concert. As good as this track is, it's only about one third of the way in. The show just keeps getting better!!
The proper companion video to this one is "Genius of Love" from Tom Tom Club, which is taken from the same concert film, Stop Making Sense. Tom Tom Club is a group formed by many of the members of Talking Heads, but not David Byrne (although I do think he produced their album). It's been so heavily sampled it will blow your mind how much of it you've heard in other contexts.
If u want a real treat, watch the concert film this is from, STOP MAKING SENSE!! Imho, in my top 3 of concert films. Talking Heads and a few other bands, were basically artist/musicians, so their shows/music/ videos are conceived n presented from both musical and visual perspectives
Hey. Amazing reaction. I would highly recommend watching the whole movie on your own time. It’s a concert called “Stop Making Sense” by Talking Heads. It changed my life. They start out with one person and add a band member each song. It’s very entertaining, especially chillin and smokin.
I was at one of their concerts long ago, and the ushers had to go around asking people in the balcony to stop jumping up and down because they were worried it would collapse!
Loved watching you guys move to the music. Thanks. Whenever I see this, I wish I had gone to see them live. I was going to a lot of shows back in those days, but some how I missed the Heads. This vid is part of a concert movie, which is fire.
Everyone I knew that was in that war was changed after. Some were hurting mentally/physically real bad. They were treated badly by many. They did their duty best they could. Stand for our Vet's , at least stand.
By the way, the dramatic moves... through Brian Eno's producing you connect to Bowie, and through him you connect to the origin of low-budget grand scale theatrics - Jacques Brel.
Lots of coke in the 80s true story i was in the 80s in the bars and parties. ! And it wS also the begining of the work out era, like dance music were aldo work out videos . Like Sweating to the Oldies. And watch Mc Hammers cant touch this. Great work out. Yea it was like we all went out to the bars to workout ! ? HUH
We lived diversity in the 80's - now ? What f happen - you all drop the ball man. My man David is Autistic - Mad energy Autistic people rock...................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHENEVER I WATCH THIS I LOSE AT LEAST A COUPLE OF KILOS. Regards from the Midi Pyrénées France to your good selves and fellow and future Subscribers. Stay Safe 🥂
2nd content creator reaction to this in 2 days!! Do you people just copy each other? However you couldn't have chosen a better version of this song, the whole concert/film is first class!
When did doing what we did in the basement listening to music with our friends become a thing people who are lazy watch? My reaction to this broken world.
the thing I really love is the contrast between how upbeat and energetic the performance is and how incredibly DARK the lyrics are

"Heard about Detroit?"
Exactly this!!! It's brilliant!
Are they dark? I LOVE this song. Byrne said that the songs were about the emotional feeling, not the literal one.
Very 1980s.
Considering that 45 years later, the lyrics are more relevant than ever.
This entire concert maybe the best show ever in music. Just all of it is incredible.
The movement symbolized what we would all be doing during wartime: running like hell. Byrne wrote the words after reading about the French underground resistance fighters during WW2.

@@markjohnson4217Especially in the current political environment in the US.
David Byrne, the greatest geek to ever front a rock band.

“Anybody have any questions”
So. Many. Gotta love David Byrne :D
The greatest concert film ever.
You have to watch that whole concert
Exta funk added by Bernie Worrell on keyboards, formerly of Funkadelic and Parliament
Also, Alex Weir on guitar, formerly of the Brothers Johnson. Lots of funk credentials on this stage.
Steve Scales, on percussion, also played with Parliament Funkadelic, among other credits.
@@trinacogitating4532 Lynn Mabry one of the backing singers also sang with P funk and Sly and the Family Stone
Saw this concert movie when it came out. People were dancing in the aisles.
Saw this in the theatre a few months ago.
They still are.....🏃♂️➡️🏃➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♂️➡️🏃➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♂️➡️🏃➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♂️➡️🏃♀️➡️
There was a cinema in Dublin that used to show it every Saturday night and people woul go regularly
This was released as a movie in the theaters and the entire movie/concert is awesome!
It'd be fun to watch a reaction to the full concert. As good as this track is, it's only about one third of the way in.
The show just keeps getting better!!
this is one of those "if I had a time machine" concerts.
One thing is certain they were in shape!

Our girl Tina HOLDING IT DOWN on the bass
TINA !
One of my favorite bands
Now imagine driving to this song blazing down the freeway in the middle of nowhere....
I do just that. Quite often these days actually. I just put on that concert and let play-thru. Pure Magic!
If u want a real treat, watch the concert film this is from, STOP MAKING SENSE!! Imho, in my top 3 of concert films.
Talking Heads and a few other bands, were basically artist/musicians, so their shows/music/ videos are conceived n presented from both musical and visual perspectives
What other concert films do you enjoy
@@KnifeWoundGirl I want to know too.. cuz Stop Making Sense is the best...

Always loved Talking Heads! ❤
Imagine how many collective calories that band burned during that song.
I was at one of their concerts long ago, and the ushers had to go around asking people in the balcony to stop jumping up and down because they were worried it would collapse!
You can't deny they have energy.
I saw them at the Greek Theater this tour it was one of the absolutely best concerts ever , we never sat down the entire show !
Gotta appreciate the work they're putting in on this one.

2024 anthem for America
This was great. I love a good mellow song to relax to.
A glimpse into a possible dystopian future with some high energy.

Loved watching you guys move to the music. Thanks.

Yeah, that one dance you saw was called The Swim. Dude was doing a TikTok dance before TikTok existed!
You better be in shape to be in that band
Talking Heads is very 80s, this is also a very cool movie
You can tell he's got autism just by the way he moves, it's fascinating.
National treasure Tina Weymouth just obliterated her bass on this.
Hip hop pioneer. Fact.
Wordy Rappinghood. 1981.
Tom Tom Club. Her band.
Tina also wrote the music of this song along with her husband on drums. David Byrne wrote the words and sang. They were all top notch entertainers.
Everyone I knew that was in that war was changed after. Some were hurting mentally/physically real bad. They were treated badly by many. They did their duty best they could. Stand for our Vet's , at least stand.
@4:34 the dance move has two definitions. The first 1 is a False Gainer and the second one (definition) is called the running man.
Bout time someone did some Heads! Thank you!
This band slaps. Talking Heads - can't recommend their albums enough. New Wave - eccentric AF
Everybody needs to see this full movie. Best concert film ever. No contest
Bernie!!💌
By the way, the dramatic moves... through Brian Eno's producing you connect to Bowie, and through him you connect to the origin of low-budget grand scale theatrics - Jacques Brel.
Not to mention that Stop Making Sense was directed by the late great Jonathan Demme.
There’s also the Robert Wilson connection
The guy on keyboard is Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic.
So SRV, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Voodoo Chile, or any song, really!
That was fun. Subscribed.
Tina nonstop jogging and keeping that bass groove tight is the real mvp here.
Grew up on this stuff...FUN FUN FUN!!!
you should check out "nothing but flowers" by this band , bow your mind, if you can work it out.
The Talking Heads stopped touring after the Tour . End of the line tour.
They give you your money's worth
This was a show, see The Tubes, its also a rock "show"
Thanks for BIG video of the concert.......small doesn't work.

great audio
David Byrne crashed his bicycle into me while I was walking on E 7th St NYC. I didn’t mind at all.
We lived diversity in the 80's - now ? What f happen - you all drop the ball man. My man David is Autistic - Mad energy Autistic people rock...................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lyrics are as important as the groove.....
can anyone id the background singers? Would love to know if there is any interview of what this tour experience was like for them.
Amazing energy! I’ve never heard a reaction to. Big Boss Man, Jimmy Reed. Or. Topsy part. Two. Cozy Cole. Thanks.
would that ever happen at a a Barry Manilo show?
Lots of coke in the 80s true story i was in the 80s in the bars and parties. !

Hit the gym before auditioning with this group. Better be in shape
When did doing what we did in the basement listening to music with our friends become a thing people who are lazy watch?
My reaction to this broken world.
This is what happens when everyone is isolated.
Real music is a lot different than “ rap “.isn’t it ?
It is that weird, isn't it?
Please no more phonies on here trying to make a few bucks......
This is getting your money's worth at a concert!
In my opinion it’s the 2nd best song from the concert the best being Heaven
STOP MAKING SENSE is the best musical DVD ever!!
Try to follow long and lose 30 pounds before it ends!!!
