Yesss. You can't go wrong with Talking Heads. They do not have a song that isn't fire. Even if it doesn't seem impressive today like 40 years later, they were phenomenal, way ahead of the curve. Everything on Stop Making Sense for example. I think you did Psycho Killer last time. Life During Wartime, This Must Be the Place, Take Me To the River, for example all great.
The synth player on the left making Sonic Pinball sounds is Bernie Worrell who was a founding member of Parliment-Funkadelic. He’s in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
This comment can not be overstated. To fully understand the absolute mind bending, booty shaking genius of this show it MUST be seen from start to finish. You will not regret it.
This was at the Greek theatre. I was at the pacific amphitheater two day earlier and it was by far one of the best gigs I have ever seen, and I’ve been to 100’s of them
I saw this perfomance and concert live back in 1984 I think. Not this specific one, bc this movie was filmed in LA, but we saw them on this tour in Virginia. Incredible. Love your reaction and comments, too. Talking Heads were huge in the 80s.
I love it when the younger crowd turns on to this performance. It was amazing to hear this in 84 for the first time. It Rocked the music world. Still moves the soul today.
Yeah, it's weird, but for me I find most mainstream bands to be 'mediocre'. I dunno if it's weird unconscious bias or just the kind of music that I just like naturally. Btw, I understand in the video the context was mainstream success and not musical aptitude or creativity.
David Burned got the Talking Heads mainstream success not by appealing to the lowest common denominator, but by doing his own thing so bloody good he couldn't be denied.
Grab the studio version of this and crank it loud. The bass might just blow out your windows!🔥🔥 Oh, and you HAVE to see Life During Wartime from this same show. You want energy???? Watch that! HAHA the sh*t is crazy
This WAS mainstream just not in all genres. Also, and most importantly, this era was a much more easier time of life. There wasn't all the politically, intentional race based division going on. It was truly just good jam. I sure miss them times 😢
You really need to watch the whole movie! It's a top three concert movie. Not a bad song on it. But, Life During Wartime is great. Talking Heads made the 80s worth living.
You made a great point regarding the integrity of the music, especially after artists become successful. It takes a lot of guts for an artist to be truer to themselves and not pander to their fanbase who are really paying the bills. I love it when artists depart from their comfort zone and explore other genres. With the Talking Heads, I think they did "Life During Wartime" in the same concert, that's even more amazing than this performance was.
Great content as usual. WB, and it's great to hear you recharged over the holiday. 100% sonic pinball. lol Surprised you spotted that, I totally missed it. Talking heads are just fun. We definitely need more bands not making 2.5 min songs who are off the radar. Mainstream isn't bad, but if that's all you focus on you miss a lot of great stuff.
Thank you for your wonderful review! Talking Heads are my favorite band. Glad you’re getting into them! Maybe check out Take Me to the River from the same show. It’s like goin to church!
I HOPE you were able to see the re-release of STOP MAKING SENSE in theaters a few weeks ago. I think most everyone in our earliest show-times had seen the film before but many probably only on home-video. The big screen theater jammed with enthusiastic fans gave it a power that no home-video could ever produce. And that show is all about physicality and motion, 'feeling' the sound. I am hoping for a spring set of show-times, too. This should be a film brought back in for film festivals, time after time.
I didn't understand your video game reference... what year was it produced in? This song was a jam session between Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz sometime in 1981 or 1982, with lyrics added during 1983's recording sessions. The music video was significant hit on MTV/VH1, an eerie consideration for all the new fans.
Their biggest album was a Live album, which tells you everything you need to know. They were the definition of unique, at a time when weird music was normal (the 80s), yet still they were very different to everything else that was going on.
Such a great show. You could probably watch everything from it and love it. I can't remember if you've already done from this same show, I've got a girlfriend that's better than that. It's a total banger and once again the energy on stage is insane.
If you're not grooving to this, there is something wrong with you. I was born in 1957, Growing up in the 60s 70s and 80s we had thee very best music on the planet!!! I love seeing (younger) folks reacting to it. They came BEFORE pinball, LOL. There is a Post featuring either Paige or Plant from Led Zeppelin> You know why your generation is so angry? It's because your music sucks LOLOLLLOLOL
This is part of a movie "Stop making sense" with the full concert which was very influental! Possibly also of your game.

76 years old and still listening to the Heads.

That's Bernie Worrell from the Parliment Funkadelics on the synthesizer.
You really need to just watch this entire concert/movie. It's amazing.

"Life During Wartime" is another high energy jewel from this same concert.

Not sure that the term 'mediocre' applys to Talking Heads'.
I know you understand what I was trying to say!

Just saw the re-release of this movie in IMAX .
A24 really did a fantastic job remastering what I consider the best concert movie of all time.
Watch the whole movie. You won’t be disappointed.
"Once in a Lifetime"...live...brilliant
Master entertainers and one of the hardest working stage acts ever. Everyone in that band is in kickass shape, guaranteed!
Now you need to see the rest of the movie "Stop Making Sense."
My absolute favorite!!!
I can't remember how often I saw the movie, but next month it will play again in my city in the Netherlands 🥳🎶🙏💖
They’re back up singers are beautiful.
Keyboardist Bernie Worrell also played keys for Parliament Funkadelic, whose songs were samples for damn near every West Coast rap song in the 90's.
And guitarist Alex Weir got his start in The Brothers Johnson, another funk/R&B act.
Grab the studio version of this and crank it loud. The bass might just blow out your windows!🔥🔥 Oh, and you HAVE to see Life During Wartime from this same show. You want energy???? Watch that! HAHA the sh*t is crazy

i've never seen a cut of them live but man they are doing it! awesome performance. Thanks for react.
Seeing family is so wonderful! Happy for you man! Welcome to my favorite song from back in the day! Always gets me going! Enjoy young man! 😽💋🎶💕
widely regarded as the greatest concert film of all time.
Talking Heads was mainstream at the time. They were HUGE. Had several big hits.

I agree Rus!
They were something! "Life During Wartime" (live), man. Watch it!
David Byrne another great Scottish singer song writer

Takes me back to my highschool days

Only second to the Grateful Dead this band is amazing live❤ Please keep more Talking Heads and David byrne coming😊
David Byrne's REI MOMO is a worthy starting point for his solo work. It's another "spend a week with it" collection.
Their biggest album was a Live album, which tells you everything you need to know. They were the definition of unique, at a time when weird music was normal (the 80s), yet still they were very different to everything else that was going on.
Great reaction!.
Great reaction 👏👏👏 Great song 🔥🔥🔥

Oh my god dude the Sonic Spinball call out. I've always thought that!
They were something apart
I was in college in 84 & we laughed at the pearl-clutchers saying this song promoted arson.
The whole video is worth watching. Check out the backup singers. They totally steal the show.
Yassss!!
a few of them were from parlemant funka delic .
they joined up and toured with them
We do still have artists like this, they are just not being reacted to.
Could you recommend some? Would love to hear some new artists!
Mediocre? Are you nuts? They were a blast!
PLEASE play some CHRIS CORNELL.I think you will enjoy him.R.I.P. SWEET MUSIC MAN.
effing enjoyed ttheir a super lot. unbelievable and super unique. 🤘Please reacto to October Ends Dark
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎
David Burns Was an original there was not many like that
Tom Macdonald should never be in a list with talking heads
I know what you meant by mediocre; I think you meant non-mainstream.

Hey I just listened to the studio version much better than this no disrespect.
