Great video Gene. I haven't fished for Bluegill or Crappie in so long, I need to do this sometime in the near future. I just got into kayak fishing this year and already looking for my 2nd (hopefully final) kayak. I am enjoying it immensely. Thanks for the video. Love your excitement. Had me chuckling.
I never would have thought to drop shot a cricket for bluegill. I love that you're also doing kayak fishing as well. I'm getting a new kayak, the ATAK in a couple months. Keep them coming.
Cool to see you do a bluegill video and cool technique. I've been wanting to try to dropshot for bluegill. Also, love the kayak videos. The kayak videos seem more up close and personal for some reason. After watching you and chad Hoover's kayak videos I'm gonna have to buy me a good fishing kayak as a reward for finally getting my RN soon.
Flukemaster, I love your intro on your videos very professional ! Gratz on the new Farmhouse, and quitting your job to teach the world how to fish. Living the dream my man. Also love seeing you and the other UA-camrs (Jon B, AP, LunkersTV, and that kid named Flair or something) make videos together. You Guys should do a "UA-camr Tournament" between all of you. AP and Jon B in one boat, LunkersTV and 1Rod1Reel, and then you and Flair I guess haha. Do it MLF style, weight every legal fish caught. Losing team has to wash the other teams boats.
It's not in place of your Alumacraft, but a yak ain't a bad way to get out on the water. Love my Nucanoe Frontier 12. Fun little boat, and teamed up with a trolling motor I'm good for up to 10 hours on the water with plenty of power to get around. I really enjoy your yak vids. Ok, time to get the yak on the suv and head out fishing...
like your kayak.. looks like u have a trolling engine.. something im working on doing to my sf10t.... my question is. .did you have to register it and if u did how much was it
I've recently tried this method and caught a few nice ones. I figured out to only set the hook when you feel weight or see the line moving. Good video.
Flukemaster! Could you by chance do an in depth video of how to really fish a frog and the set up, and all the secret techniques. I would love to really understand how to really fish a topwater frog! Thanks!
I always loved fishing for Bluegill. Most of the time my Bluegill were almost 1 lb anyway. My father, his friend and I went Fly fishing for Bream/Bluegill from dusk to a bit after sunset and that's when you can catch a load of them. All of almost 1lber's.
Who's disliking this? This guy is knowledgeable and helpful and his videos are tasteful. He's got a great passion for fishing and was having a blast out there catching Bluegill. Thanks for the great video, Flukemaster!
great video. I like the change up to keep it interesting. you're gonna have to find a good lake near home to find some trophy gills. lol. keep up the good work. tight lines.
Gene, what causes my bait caster to backlash mid flight. it did it with a live target Koppers frog a couple times, but more times trying to throw a jitterbug
all's it is is when you cast a lure and the line is coming off the reel faster than the lure is traveling through the air. The line does not go anywhere and just gets tangled. Like the guy said above, wind can be a cause, but it is usually caused when you try to cast to hard.
A lot of times it is something as simple as raising your rod tip too soon. If you increase line friction across the guides, it makes the spool spin faster than they line is departing. A quick and easy solution is to follow the lure to the water with your rod tip.
I love dropshotting for bluegill. I usually use a LFT Lures baby shad, because live bait is a PITA. Craziest bluegill I caught was on a Pop-R magnum. That one was about a pound.
next time you come to Texas you really need to try Fayette county lake (power plant lake). I just got back from a 2.5 day trip and caught approximately 155 fish) Its a small lake but a really great bass lake.
Hey Gene, I just received my Blackout rod from No. 8 Tackle. I've heard many people talk about the eyes coming off of their rods. I was wondering if after having those rods for almost a year, have you had any problems with the eyes?
I've found that the color of the gills depend on the water color. If the water is dark the gills are dark, if it's clear or has a lot of grass then the gills have a lot of color.
Hey Flukemaster I fish a small lake that has LOTS of bass I usually use senkos, but I want to step up my game , I know there feeding on bluegill ( swimbaits)
can you tell me what net your using if possible? my 7 year old just ripped his and we are looking for a good one! The ones we usually get seem to wide holes and the fish always get tangled up
Noah Wolfgram I finally bought my dream kayak too! I was going to get the Hobie but bought the Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota. It has a trolling motor in the center. Boy I just love this video! He does such a wonderful job!

Excellent video! Thanks for shaking it up with great tips on catching some blue gills...my favorite fish to eat of any fresh or salt water fish.
I never would have thought to drop shot a cricket for bluegill.

Mr Jensen will catch anything that swims out of anything that floats with any kind of lure. love it classic gene

I love these big bluegill videos Gene and yes, these definitely are the gills of my dreams
Heard the drag singing and laughed at you. Then I saw the size of that gill and stopped. Interesting technique, thanks for posting.
Great video. Of course, I am partial to the kayak fishing stuff. KBF can also stand for Kayak Bream Fishing. Just sayin'
Great video,.....nothing like a nice size bluegill pullin some drag on light tackle,...Love it!!!
like your kayak.. looks like u have a trolling engine.. something im working on doing to my sf10t.... my question is. .did you have to register it and if u did how much was it
Bluegill are so much fun on a ultralight rod. They fight so hard when they are on beds it's crazy
Nice work on those monster bluegill
I looked at that gill as you were putting it back in the water. That would have fried up nice in my cast iron skillet. lol
I love dropshotting for all fish it's my favorite set up. Those were some really nice gills!!!!!!
Haven't even seen any of your vids but I'm auto subscribing for the Georgia stuff. Go Dawgs.
lol. Well go watch some brother.
+Flukemaster what kind of kayak is that
+Link Shehan I think it a hobie pro angler
Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 Kayak
Cool video Gene. I rarely fish for anything other than bass but the next time my kids come with I'm going to try this
Sweet! This format is awesome! glad to see something other than bass! Spice it up a little!
I've recently tried this method and caught a few nice ones. I figured out to only set the hook when you feel weight or see the line moving. Good video.

+Hayden Bute I've already got one
+Flukemaster or you could have done the simple way just making a small bunny ear knot it's the same thing by much quicker
Crappie out of the kayak is a blast as well!

Thanks Jesse, Haters gonna hate. They probably don't even watch the video.
I'm sure you're probably right. Blows my mind how some people seem to live for negativity.
Jesse Claffee catching blue gill is definitely fun, better than catching nothing.
Going after bluegill with a ultralight setup and micro crankbait is sooooo much fun
great video. I like the change up to keep it interesting. you're gonna have to find a good lake near home to find some trophy gills. lol. keep up the good work. tight lines.
Wow, those are some nice dinner plate gills.
Reminds me of the Georgia Giants my friends pond used to have.

is that a small motor along the back of your kayak?
I love dropshotting for bluegill. I usually use a LFT Lures baby shad, because live bait is a PITA. Craziest bluegill I caught was on a Pop-R magnum. That one was about a pound.
Thanks for another video Gene. Any specific way you prefer to hook the crickets? I've never used them and may want to reconsider.
What rod is that?
next time you come to Texas you really need to try Fayette county lake (power plant lake).
I just got back from a 2.5 day trip and caught approximately 155 fish)
Its a small lake but a really great bass lake.
Did you bring your camera man with you??
what brand is that net your using and what size hole is it.
when people comment great vid but the video hasn't been up long enough go watch the whole thing
hey gene ! did you notice at 2:55 there was a bass or a gill blowing up on the surface on the right of the screen lol. neat tip though
Saw that to
still there 4 years later...
What were you trying to teach us?
was that an omen black rod?
Hey Gene, I just received my Blackout rod from No. 8 Tackle. I've heard many people talk about the eyes coming off of their rods. I was wondering if after having those rods for almost a year, have you had any problems with the eyes?
Awesome video..thanks for all you do, and sharing the video's
Kudos to whoever filmed you. Must have taken a lot of patience. lol
why do the bluegills up here in Ontario have more colour? ... wish I could attach an image.
I've found that the color of the gills depend on the water color. If the water is dark the gills are dark, if it's clear or has a lot of grass then the gills have a lot of color.
Makes sense. Water was pretty clear and tons of veg.
what kind of rod and reel is that
Nice video thanks for the tips I love to go bluegill fishing
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT KAYAK
Hey Flukemaster I fish a small lake that has LOTS of bass I usually use senkos, but I want to step up my game , I know there feeding on bluegill ( swimbaits)
Those big bluegills are good eating. Better than trouts in my opinion.
What is that fishing reel?
i like the new intros!
can you tell me what net your using if possible? my 7 year old just ripped his and we are looking for a good one! The ones we usually get seem to wide holes and the fish always get tangled up
how do you hook a cricket ??
One feeding behind you at 2:54! Catch it!
where is this lake location
How deep are the bluegills normally when fishing with this rig
what lake is that.
Did anyone see the fish that surfaced like 50 feet behind his kayak around 2:54 in the video?
man what a rig you are fishing in there..
Good video and good size gills.
Tom
I love kayaking! I got a Jackson Coosa and I got my wife a Jackson Cruz! I got a couple of kayak videos on my site.
Bread works to. It's a good way to get rid of moldy bread
Been fishing with a Hobie PA12 this season and having a blast.
iv got a bluegill that size b4 there so much fun!! and I was using a lure for big big big!! like monester walleye
Good video and keep up the good work
Is AP bassin behind the shaky camera? Lol no it's probably flair
what lake? I just bought the PA 12 and It is worth every $1 not having to paddle and fish at the same time..
Louisiana Blackwater Fly Fishing I'm jealous. I want a hobie!
Flukemaster what is a good combo for pan fish like you used in the video
I'm not too picky. I like a light action spinning rod with a small reel.
why the extra loop in the rig for the hook?
Because a big ol' bluegill is very weary. The loop prevents the fish from feeling the rod until it has the hook in its mouth.
Got it! Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
Love Bream fishing with crickets, until the cricket bites back....had to happen once when I was 14. Those litte buggers can bite!
BlackAnvil47 are you being serious about the cricket biting you lol
I didn't know this
Depending on your gear and what you're targeting, all fishing is fun!
thanks nice video
Nice vids 👌
I'm pretty sure you can fish 40, 50, 60 ft. deep with a slip bobber rig..... or..... ?????
This man is awesome
Do you ever catch bluegills for a fish fry?
Why not use a bottom rig?
Hey man I am also from ga what part are you from
Is that a 3x or 4x lowrance fish finder?
4x
what fish finder do you use on your kayak?
An Elite 4 DSI
1 inch Gulp Alive also work great with a drop shot.
I get a ton of nice bluegill with flies
bluegill and bream same thing?
from what I know, a bluegill is a bream, but a bream is not a bluegill.
In some places they call bluegill bream. They call them perch here, which is equally wrong.
I'm surprised how docile these fishes are out of the water. It's like your holding an inanimate disc or something lol
+Francis Ducharme the big ones are that way for some reason. Perhaps it's because they have never felt their own weight
Someone told me bluegill cant go that deep. Hummmm.... lol
I WANT THAT KAYAK!!!! That is a 3,000 dollar kayak
Noah Wolfgram I finally bought my dream kayak too! I was going to get the Hobie but bought the Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota. It has a trolling motor in the center. Boy I just love this video! He does such a wonderful job!
Cool
so basically your tight lining for bluegill. just like you would for catfish.
How can you find bluegill beds that deep?
CaliFishing I'm wondering the same thing. How do you know? ate my forest bluegill today and I'm hooked. I need more.
6:08 I'd call that a quality problem to have, haha
Nice 😌
cool
I have a pond that I go fishing at and you can catch a lot of BIG bluegill
How much is the kayak
+Queen Day around 4,000 with accessories
2:55
on**** check description
so its a kentucky rig
I caught my personal best bass on a cricket.
Hey I catch big 1 pound and a half bream on shrimp do a vid on that please
i won't even lie bluegill are ugly as hell but they are fun to just catch a whole mess of them lol
I wish I had problems like that lol
anyone else see the fish jump at 2:55?
