    Love the bluegillin brother... I can't understand why people call them kid fish.. I'm 48 and love fishing for bluegills.. I remember a time I took my kids fishing... a passing boat(we were landlocked) commented how the fishing was bad that day.. I replied.. no it isn't.. we caught about 50 so far... their jaws dropped!! I said not bass.. and showed them slab gills.. they sneered.. but we had a way better time than them brother!! Cheers!! Keep the spirit alive!!

      I could not agree more. I prefer catching 50 casts and catching 50 blue gill as to casting a hundred times and catching one bass any day.

      I am guessing they call them kid fish because they are easy to catch and a great way to get kids interested in fishing. It doesn't take a lot of skill or money to take a kid fishing for bluegills.

    I actually used a drop shot for the first time today. Rigged two hooks about a foot apart and put a Dr. Fish minnow on the too hook and a worm on the bottom hook. My day was crazy. Caught monster gills on my first two casts and continued slamming them all day on both the minnow and the worm. Fantastic method when the fishing is slow.

    I primarily use a slip sinker rig for literally every fish I go after and that's a lot of various different species of fish. I'd say if you're looking for the most versatile rig it's definitely the slip sinker rig in my humble opinion

    Great video just one thing to add. When fishing for sunnies it helps to add a swivel on above the hook to reduce line twist. I have drop shot for them a lot this way you spend more time fishing and less time untwisting your line.

    • @greatlakezgirl649
      @greatlakezgirl649 Рік тому

      I had that issue this past Friday. In 3 years, I had never had an issue with line twist. I couldn't find any size 12 swivels, so I had to buy the eagle claw size 14 with interlock snap and cut the snap off.

    Did this for bass and bluegill. Great for working deep weed lines. One tip for big bluegills late summer. We used jumbo leeches drop shotting or on a lindy rig. The smaller gills won't hit it.

    If one can't also find something, ANYthing positive to say when somebody else takes the time to share what they enjoy and know something about, the the one offering nothing but unconstructive criticism (and then doubling and tripling down on it when called out)?
    Imo, THEY are the one with the overinflated ego showing like a swelled-up, sore thumb.
    having ficused mostly on fly fishing rivers for my 54+ years of wetting all sorts of lines, i'm rather new to the use of dropshotting, and even to the use of live bait. It's unrealistic, but also have my 'benchmark' prices for tackle stuck at 1960's prices, lol!
    When ice fishing with homemade tip-downs fir oerch and 'eyes, i began using using various (easily field trim-able) segments from a spool of hollow core lead wire to exactly balance this very effective form of set gear.
    Just thinking aloud now, and given the narrow cross-section of this style of weight, i can see no reason to pay several dollars for a few modern, tungsten dropshots (although it's a very different story when employing lighter lines and very tiny jigs, under hardwater). Off the top of my head, i don't recall how mnay times more dense tungsten may be, but it's nit like it's three-fold ir anything. So why not save a few bucks (then spendable on a dozen 'boutique/gucci - grade 'crawlers, and just crimp on a slightly longer lead skeeve cylinder, y'know?
    Just an idea.
    Here's another. If it pleases a person to casually pronounce a word one way, or even to do so incorrectly AND on purpose no less (e.g. among some of the 'frozen chosen', "minnies' is common enough), or to get the same job done just as effectively with alternative materials, live and let live. After all, we do this sport for fun, not for academic credits.
    Don't know him from Adam, but imo Mr. Fussypants wouldn't likely try and correct even a smaller icedawg, when face to face.
    Keep up with what you (i.e. the O.P.) are doing, and any way you like doing it.
